Tomorrow evening at 5:00 p.m. the President and Mrs. Bush will participate in the Lighting of the National Christmas Tree at the Opening Ceremony for the 83rd Annual Christmas Pageant of Peace. The Christmas Pageant of Peace and is an unbroken tradition begun in 1923 when President Calvin Coolidge lit the first tree in President's Park on behalf of all Americans. The National Park Service, in partnership with the National Park Foundation, is sponsoring the 2006 Christmas Pageant of Peace, which will take place on the Ellipse (the South Lawn of the White House).
