National Day of Prayer 2007

National Day of Prayer 2007

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress' proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

The 56th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 3, 2007. The theme for this year is "America, Unite in Prayer" and is based on the verse from II Chronicles 7:14 which states: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." The 2007 Honorary Chairman, Dr. Charles R. Swindoll, will help lead the nation in prayer.

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners would like to encourage ALL OF YOU to seek out and to support activities honoring the National Day of Prayer in your own state. The NDP Task Force has appointed State Prayer Coordinators in all 50 states, who have then worked with other coordinators in each county to bring forth an NDP Observance in keeping with this year's theme.

Knowing the desperate state of our nation at this hour, when we are facing enemies both "within" and "without," it IS time to stop, pause, reflect, and to offer PRAYERS OF REPENTANCE, that God might yet show His mercy upon our people once again.

Mrs. Shirley Dobson, the Chairman of National Day of Prayer 2007, has issued a mandate to all of us:

"AMERICA, UNITE IN PRAYER!"

Amen!
