Brownback Attempts to Restore Decency

Legislation that would restore regulation of sex, profanity and violence on broadcast TV is scheduled for a vote Thursday in a U.S. Senate subcommittee.

One of the two amendments offered by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., would render moot a recent U.S. circuit court decision that struck down government efforts to regulate indecent content during the "safe harbor" hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The second amendment would give the Federal Communications Commission the authority to prohibit excessive violence from 6-10 p.m. on prime-time TV.
