1. President Bush Welcomes New Chairman Of The Joint Chiefs Of Staff - AP

Navy Adm. Mike Mullen on Monday became the nation's highest-ranking military officer, immediately promising to revitalize the armed forces and 'properly balance our risks around the globe."'The fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will one day end," said Mullen, now the senior military adviser to President Bush as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. "We must be ready for who and what comes after. That's the promise we've made."

· Thank You, Lord, for Gen. Pace's term of excellent work. Now we pray for the new chairman. We pray that Admiral Mullen will have Your Spirit of being gentle as a dove but wise as a serpent. Amen!

· "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." (Matthew 10:16)

2. Transportation Secretary Wants To Treat Root Causes Of Flight Delays - CNN; "Good Morning, America"

Secretary Mary Peters: "It is in the best interest of airlines, of airports, and certainly of those of us at USDOT and FAA to make sure that we're not chronically delaying passengers. So the efforts that we're undertaking between now and the end of the year when I report back to the President are designed to do just that. We want to get better information to consumers, we want to make sure we're communicating with them, but we also want to treat the root causes."

· In You, Lord, there is not confusion. We lay this problem at Your feet. We pray You will put the right people in place to devise a plan on keeping airlines and airports working properly and safely. Please foil the plans of those who have evil intent

· "Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me." (Psalms 119:133-133)

3. Supreme Court Declines To Hear Church-State Cases - NY Sun; Fox News

Shrinking away from embroiling itself in a dispute over church-state issues, the Supreme Court yesterday declined to hear appeals in two cases that religious communities were watching closely. In a related development, Fox News is reporting that the Supreme Court may challenge conservatives this term in a number of issues, including enhanced rights for terrorism detainees, a ruling against part of a child pornography law and shorter prison terms for crack cocaine dealers.

· Lord, we pray for Your wisdom in all these rulings. You said that we should have judges that minister justice to all. We pray that You will appoint righteous judges and Justices in our nation! Amen!

· "Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes." (2 Chronicles 19:6,7)

4. Senate approves defense bill - Washington Times

The Senate yesterday overwhelmingly approved a $648 billion defense authorization bill that faces a veto by President Bush over a provision that protects homosexuals under federal hate-crime laws.

· Pray for President Bush, that his hand be strengthened to VETO this bill and send it back to Congress to strip that provision from its text. Amen.

· "For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed." (Isaiah 50:7)

5. U.S. Soldier And Iraqi Civilian Deaths At Lowest Level In Over A Year - Washington Post

The numbers of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians reported killed across the country last month fell to their lowest levels in more than a year, a sharp decrease in violent deaths that American military officials attribute in part to the thousands of additional soldiers who have arrived here this year

· We give You praise and glory for this victory. We pray that more Iraqis will work together with our troops to defeat the terrorists. We pray that Iraqis will love and be loyal to the U.S. soldiers and the U.S. in a godly way forever!

· "Surely the Lord God will help Me; Who is he who will condemn Me? Indeed they will all grow old like a garment; The moth will eat them up." (Isaiah 50:9)

· "For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established." (Romans 1:11)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

""Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, and shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice. You shall yet plant vines on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant and eat them as ordinary food." (Jeremiah 31:4-5).

2. IDF clashes with Palestinian gunmen in northern Gaza - Ynet News

3. Palestinian prisoners welcomed home - Ynet News

President Shimon Peres on Monday evening signed for the reduction of the sentences of some 30 Gazan security prisoners without blood on their hands. The prisoners will be released Tuesday morning, bringing about the completion of the prisoner release process that was delayed on Monday.

4. Abbas: Peace deal possible by May - Ynet News

Israel and the Palestinians could sign a peace deal within six months of an international peace conference scheduled for November, Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas told AFP on Friday.

Homosexual Activism in NY, Maryland, California

In 2006 the New York Supreme Court ruled that same- sex couples do not have a constitutional right to marriage. Good news: this week the Maryland Supreme Court similarly ruled that Maryland's marriage law, restricting marriage to "one man and one woman" is not unconstitutional, but it added that the Maryland Constitution does not prohibit the legislature from legalizing homosexual marriage. CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has publicly vowed that he will continue to veto gay marriage bills passed by California Legislature. The New York judge threw out a case brought by the Alliance Defense Fund challenging special benefits provided same-sex partners of government employees. Judge Thomas McNamara ruled that New York "should" recognize out- of-state same-sex "marriages." His ruling establishes a foothold for homosexuals to pursue counterfeit marriages in Massachusetts and other countries that allow them, then demand benefits in New York.

· Pray for new judges who will uphold marriage and the family. May God restrain activist judges who wage moral revolution through the courts.

The Two Faces of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Ahmadinejad's Words In US Do Not Match Actions In Iran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's well- staged propaganda machine has hit high gear in the United States propelled by an all to eager news media and has presented a message of peace and misunderstanding of Iran's scientific intentions. Ahmadinejad has been quoted repeatedly by the news media as saying "We seek détente. Every stance and position has been toward peace," and denying that Iran has supplied weapons to kill American troops in Iraq, "Why would we want to do that? This would really be inappropriate for us. We are friends with both Iraq and Afghanistan. Insecurity in Iraq and Afghanistan undermines our own national security; it basically goes against what we believe."

Ahmadinejad has said that his country has no need for a nuclear weapon and that Iran is against nuclear weapons. Ahmadinejad's message has been one of reason and of peace. But Ahmadinejad is a liar. Military spokesman Rear Admiral Mark Fox said U.S. troops were continuing to find advanced Iranian- supplied weaponry including a portable surface-to-air missile that uses an infrared guidance system and armor-piercing roadside bombs known as explosively formed penetrators. This coincides with other reports that Iranian special forces units are on ground in Iraq and are helping kill American troops in a proxy war against the United States.

In addition, DebkaFile reports that just a day before Ahmadinejad arrived in the United States, there was an annual military parade in Iran marking the anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Iran in 1980. Iran unveiled its new long range missile. The announcer in the parade said that the missile put U.S. bases in the Middle East within reach and could target Israel. On the trucks transporting the missiles through the parade were slogans saying, "Death to America," "Death to Israel," "Israel should be eliminated," "No Muslim may recognize Israel" and "Israel must be wiped off the map."

This deceptive criminal Ahmadinejad is an excellent example of a type and shadow of end time prophecies. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy that in the last days perilous times shall come and he warned "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Iran will play a dominant role in the end times by allying with Russia against Israel. The foundation to the Ezekiel "Gog, Magog" prophecy where Russia leads Iran and other nations against Israel is coming into place swiftly. Yet the world desires any opportunity for peace as described in Jeremiah 8:15, "We looked for peace, but no good came."

H.Res. 674: Expressing Support for Israel's Right to Self Defense in the Face of an Imminent Nuclear or Military Threat from Syria

On Sept. 23, Rep. Robert Wexler [D-FL] introduced H.Res. 674: Expressing the unequivocal support of the House of Representatives for Israel's right to self defense in the face of an imminent nuclear or military threat from Syria.

H.Res. 674 has ten cosponsors and has been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

· Pray for swift action on this bill and unanimous support in passage.

· "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem." (Psalm 122:6)

This Week on Capitol Hill

In the House:

After fumbling in the Senate, Iraq gets passed back this week to the House where members will vote on three smallish war-related bills - one requiring the administration regularly update Congress on its withdrawal plans, another beefing up the role of the Inspector General in Iraq and Afghanistan and a third pointing out that contractors in Iraq do, indeed, fall under US criminal law. The House may also cut homeowners a break this week, nixing taxes on forgiven mortgage debts.

In the Senate:

The Senate will try to polish off its defense authorization bill before notching off two more '08 budget bills - a defense appropriation bill (the one that actually covers the checks) and a Commerce-Justice- Science bill. The $459b military bill doesn't include $193b the Pentagon has asked to cover the wars; that'll come up later.

In both Chambers:

Both chambers are bracing for an expected presidential veto on the children's health bill they passed last week. Although it's a safe bet senators will override a veto, House members may not be able to pull out enough votes to keep the bill alive.
