The Daily Brief - Thursday, May 7, 2009

"May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you." (Psalm 33:22)

The Daily Brief

1. U.S. Importing Somali 'Pirate-Jihadists' - Newsmax

The Obama administration wants to reinstate a fraud-riddled immigration program that has brought thousands of Somalis into the United States under questionable circumstances. Some are now leaving to join Islamic militias waging jihad in Mogadishu. Experts fear they soon may return to wage holy war on the United States.

· Lord, we ask that You root out and remove any of these dangerous people from the United States, and prevent them from returning. We pray that wisdom will come to our leadership and they will see the truth about the program that they have fostered.

· "Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until You find none." (Psalm 10:15)

2. Obama Seeks to Cut $17B - Out of $3.4 Trillio n- Newsmax

U.S. President Barack Obama, facing criticism over huge budget deficits, will propose on Thursday shaving $17 billion from a 2010 budget that will still hover around $3.5 trillion, administration officials said.

· Lord, we pray that Your wisdom will prevail as the budget is prepared. May those who prepare these cuts and proposals find Your counsel, even if they are not aware of it.

· "I will consecrate their gain to the Lord, and their substances to the Lord of the whole earth." (Micah 4:13c)

3. U.S. military destroys soldier's Bibles - One News Now

The U.S. military is confirming that it has destroyed some Bibles belonging to an American soldier serving in Afghanistan.

· Father, we repent on behalf of our military for falling under the pressure of those who hate You. We ask for Your mercy, and pray that Your Holy Spirit will convict them and grant repentance.

· "Your hand will find all Your enemies; Your right hand will find those Who hate You." (Psalm 21:8)

4. A) Maine legalizes same-sex marriage - UPI

Maine Gov. John Baldacci Wednesday signed a bill making same-sex marriage legal in the state.

B. New Hampshire legislators vote for gay marriage - AP

The New Hampshire Legislature has passed a bill allowing gay marriage, but the governor hasn't said whether he'll sign it.

C. DC Vote Could Entangle Congress -AP

The city council in the nation's capital voted Tuesday to recognize same-sex marriages from states that approve them, a step that could propel the emotional issue into Congress and draw Democrats into a culture-wars battle with each other.

· Lord, as this sin continues to snowball across the United States, we ask for Divine intervention, and a move of Your Spirit. We bind the spirit of lust and perversion, and in the Name of Jesus we ask that Your Holy Spirit raise up a standard against it. We draw the Bloodline of Jesus Christ around America, and continue to entreat You for mercy over us.

· "When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19b)

5. Report: Brisk Activity at NKorea Nuclear Test Site - AP

South Korean officials have detected "brisk" activity at a North Korean nuclear test site, a news report said Thursday, days after the communist country threatened to conduct nuclear and missile tests.

Last week, the North said it would carry out a second nuclear test and test-launch intercontinental ballistic missiles, unless the U.N. Security Council apologizes for criticizing the country's April 5 rocket launch.

· Father, we pray that You will thwart the plans of North Korean leadership to launch nuclear weapons - whether they be tests or real. We ask that Your Holy Spirit move over the DNK to save souls and change hearts, unraveling the Communist regime that has been in power for so long.

· "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17)

CAPITOL HILL PRAYER PARTNERS SUPPORTS THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

At Capitol Hill Prayer Partners, we rejoice at this outpouring of prayer for our nation. Indeed, this year, due to the desperate need of our people in this hour, the National Day of Prayer is being transformed into "a day of NATIONAL PRAYER." Thank you all for the role each of you has played over the years in offering "effectual fervent prayer" for our nation. This is, indeed, GOOD NEWS!

PRAYER IN THE AIR

On May 7, 2009, our National Day of Prayer, PrayerFlight will be conducting our "50 Capitals" project again. The "50 Capitals" PrayerFlight was first organized and flown in 2008 with a focus of covering every state capital in our nation - what a blessing this particular project has been. This year proves to be even better than last year with all of our state capitals covered in "prayer in the air." For more information about the ministry of Prayer Flight.
