The Daily Brief - Tuesday, August 25. 2009

I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. (Isaiah 55:13)

The Daily Brief

1. US to Hike 10-year Deficit Forecast to Nine Trillion Dollars - AFP

US President Barack Obama's administration will raise its 10-year budget deficit forecast to about nine trillion dollars, up about two trillion from the previous forecast, a US official said Friday.

• Heavenly Father, we pray You will block the overspending by our government officials. Raise up people with diligence and temperance.

Riches and honor are with Wisdom, enduring riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver. (Proverbs 8:18, 19)

2. Swine Flu Campaign Waits on Vaccine - Washington Post

Government health officials are mobilizing to launch a massive swine flu vaccination campaign this fall that is unprecedented in its scope -- and in the potential for complications.

• Heavenly Father, we pray that any vaccine released will not have harmful side effects to especially the weak, young, and the elderly. Give us cures that are natural and yet potent.

No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling: For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. (Psalm:10, 11)

3. Social Security Payments to Shrink for First Time in a Generation - Fox News

Millions of older people face shrinking Social Security checks next year, the first time in a generation that payments would not rise.

• Lord, because of governmental overspending, we ask You to intervene in those effected by the cut-backs, to supernaturally multiply their money.

He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. (Matthew 14:19)

4. Lutherans to Allow Gay Clergy in Committed Relationships - USA Today

Leaders of the nation's largest Lutheran church voted Friday to allow sexually active gays and lesbians in committed relationships to serve as clergy.

• Heavenly Father, we know how it grieves Your heart when your creation willfully rebels against You. We pray for all denominations to adhere closely and faithfully to Your laws.

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. (2 Peter 2:20)

5. Full Letter: FBI Sends Scathing Note to Scots Over Pan Am 103 Bomber's Release - ABC News

Typically reserved FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III -- who rarely comments on issues not involving the FBI -- has taken the rare step of writing a letter to the Scottish Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill to say he is "outraged." Mueller says the decision to release Abdel Baset al-Megrahi gives comfort to terrorists and makes a mockery of grieving victims' families.

• Lord, we pray for future decisions concerning all captured terrorists, to be done with wisdom and discernment. Do not allow any to go free who would do more harm.

Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble. (Psalm 140:4)

6. Mullen Says Afghan Security Situation 'Serious,' Getting Worse - Bloomberg

A top U.S. military official said Afghanistan's security situation is getting worse, as Senator John McCain warned that there aren't enough troops deployed in the country.

• Lord, we pray for the leaders in our nation and our military to have Your wisdom as to how to conduct these wars. We pray for the security of Afghanistan and Iraq to strengthen and not deteriorate.

When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. (Psalms 27:2)

7. Muslims Begin Observing Holy Month of Ramadan - VOA

Most Muslims around the world have begun observing Islam's holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting and spiritual reflection.

- Note: Please refer to our daily postings of 30 Days of Prayers for the Muslim World during this time. Thank you!

• Lord, we pray for the secret believers who are facing the possibility of death to be hidden and remain safe. Open wide the doors of acceptance of Muslims to the gospel of Jesus Christ!

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:12, 13)

White House Using Scare Tactics and Children To Establish Socialism

The healthcare socialization battle in the White House war against Americans has taken a new turn--scare tactics to cause Americans to accept government control of their lives. In the past two days, numerous stories have been written about how the government is preparing for a swine flu pandemic. First, there was a story quoting Health and Human Services spokesman Bill Hall that there are only 45 million does of the swine flu vaccine that will be ready by mid-October--about a third of the anticipated need of 120 million. Then a White House panel of scientific advisors issues a warning that swine flu may hospitalize 1.8 million and kill double the people of a normal flu season, about 90,000.

When the swine flu outbreak occurred in Mexico in April, the White House declared a national health emergency. But Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano refused to issue travel advisories or to screen passengers on flights arriving from Mexico. Dr. Richard Besser, head of the Center for Disease Control, said at the time, "We do think this will continue to spread but we are taking aggressive actions to minimize the impact on people's health." Instead of shutting down travel and border crossings, the Feds released 12 million vaccine doses. Now, as children are returning to school, the White House has issued a report that the swine flu "poses a serious health threat to the nation."

NaturalNews.com editor Mike Adams reported on August 5 that the patent protecting the swine flu vaccine states that "ingredients used in the vaccine are derived from the kidneys of African Green Monkeys who are first infected with the virus, then allowed to fester the disease, and then are killed so that their diseased organs can be used to make vaccine ingredients." Adams also documented that the patent is held by the National Institutes of Health and a large military defense contractor, DynCorp. DynCorp, Adams says, is contracted by the US government to patrol the US/Mexico border, near where the first H1N1 swine flu virus was originally detected.

The swine flu vaccine may do more harm than good. London's Daily Mail reported on August 15 that the UK's Health Protection Agency warned that the vaccine could trigger a brain disorder that "attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breath, and can be fatal." The White House is using the media, school children, and the swine flu to scare Americans into accepting socialized medicine. It is complicit in allowing the swine flu into the United States and is working with a military contractor that stands to benefit greatly from an epidemic. Think the unthinkable. This is war. We must stand. Hebrews 13:6 says, "The Lord is my helper and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

Strapped for Cash?

A devotional teaching from George Whitten, Editor; Worthy News
2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Living by faith financially can be a wonderful thing. Back in Jesus' day, people didn't have savings and money market accounts, mutual funds, and IRA's. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that those things are bad to have. What I'm saying is that those of us who live without them have an opportunity -- an opportunity to see God provide in miraculous ways!

One month when we first came to Israel, we had reached the end of our finances on a consecutive number of unexpected crises. Now we had to pay our rent and our bank account was almost totally depleated and we were getting a little nervous. "Lord!" we cried. "We came here to Israel to be a light and to do your work, what's going on?! We need a miracle!"

I kid you not. The next day, our phone rang. Someone who didn't know a thing about our ministry called to let us know that while he had been travelling in Europe he met a woman who found out he was coming to the Land soon and gave him an envelope to give us as soon as he could. Wouldn't you know it, that money was the exact figure we needed and it came just in time to pay our rent.
It wasn't long before we realized that living by faith would become a way of life for us. After a few miracles like this one, we stopped getting nervous. We knew that God would always come through.

John Guest said that "It is remarkable to think that God has given us a partnership with him in directing the course of human events. It is extraordinary to realize that our prayer can change events and circumstances in the world around us. But what is just as remarkable is that when we pray, we change. More often than not we become the answer to our own prayers as we open up ourselves to God in prayer.

. . . if you're struggling today, struggle no longer! God is faithful! Let's ask the Lord to help us begin to see our needs as opportunities to see His miracle working power!

Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World

Covering RAMADAN in prayer
August 22 - September 20

During these 30 days when the people of Islam observe Ramadan, we encourage you to visit this site in order to view daily prayers. May we raise up the people of the Muslim world in prayer that they will come to salvation in Christ Jesus.

Prayer For Tuesday 25 August, Ramadan 2009.

"Loving Muslims Through Prayer"
Secret believers . . . The real cost of following Jesus

For a former Muslim, becoming a believer in the Messiah is more than simply changing religion. In leaving Islam, the person has left his identity. The consequences of this choice are terrible: new believers are often rejected by other Muslims, and their family, and sometimes they are forced to divorce and they lose their children. They can lose their inheritance, their employment, their lodging, sometimes they receive death threats and some are actually killed. In many cases they are obliged to live their new faith in secret because of the fear of persecution. They become real "secret believers." Many are isolated, and it is very difficult for them to persevere in their faith. The new believer needs a new identity.

Prayer Starters:

- Pray for the secret believers who are even now facing the possibility of death. May God protect them.

- Pray for their families that they also may be attracted to the light of Christ. Pray that there would be a change of mentality so that Muslims can accept believers in the Messiah as honourable members of society.

- Pray that the situation of the secret believers would be better known and that believers all over the world could give them help.

- Explain to your children about the freedom you have and ask them to pray for a secret person.
