The Daily Brief - Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009

"What the wicked fears will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted." (Proverbs 10:24)

The Daily Brief

1.Report: FBI Fears Subway Attack, Planning More New York City Raids - Fox News

The FBI is planning more raids in New York City amid ongoing fears of a subway bombing plot by a Denver-based terror cell with ties to Al Qaeda, the New York Daily News reported.

- Lord, we pray these suspected attacks will be brought to nothing. The plans will be discovered and stopped in Jesus Name. Give our law enforcement the insight they need to be at the right place at the right time, to stop any attacks.

- Keep them from the jaws of the trap which has been set for them, and from the snares of those who do iniquity. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while they pass by safely. (Psalm 35:1, 141:8-10)

2. Obama seeks Patriot Act extensions - Washington Times

The Obama administration has asked Congress to extend three contentious provisions of the USA Patriot Act - a bill once described by President Obama as "shoddy" - and urged an appeals court to deny access to U.S. courts for detainees at a military prison in Afghanistan.

- Lord, we pray that Congress and the Executive Branch work together concerning these expiring provisions to ensure our National Security and Civil Liberties are protected.

- Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just. (Prov 8:14-15)

3. House Bill Introduced to Repeal Defense of Marriage Act - Christian Post

Members of Congress introduced legislation in the House of Representatives Tuesday that aims to repeal the 13-year-old Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage for federal purposes and ensures that states are not forced to recognize alternate definitions.

- We pray that the Defense of Marriage Act stands firm and this new legislation will fall. We pray that the definition of marriage between one man and one woman holds true in all states.

- Haven't you read, he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and two will become one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate." (Matthew 19:4-6)

4. Undercover videos may be costly for ACORN - One News Now

Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill are pleased the Senate has voted overwhelmingly to cut off federal funding to ACORN, in light of the ongoing investigations of voter registration fraud involving that organization.

- Lord, thank you for this report. This organization has been suspected far too long of misconduct. Thank you for bringing these deeds into the light.

- For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. (Romans 13:3)

5. W.H. collects Web users' data without notice - Washington Times

The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama's promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet.

- Lord, let this administrations' Yes, be Yes and No, be No. We pray for integrity and honesty and transparency.

- To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. (Prov 8:13)

6. Carter: Wilson's outburst 'based on racism' - Washington Times

Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act "based on racism" and rooted in fears of a black president.

- Lord, help us to remember our words carry influence. Help the American people and our leaders to deal with issues at face value and not "read into" hidden motives of racism, etc. We pray Jimmy Carter's comments will not divide people further. Although the outburst by Wilson may have violated the rules of decorum and civility, help us to agree and disagree without race being an issue.

- Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. (Prov 10:12)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Thus says LORD, in an acceptable time have I heard You, and in a day of salvation have I helped You: I will preserve You, and give You for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;" (Isaiah 49:8)

1. Israel 'will attack Iran this year' if West does not cripple Tehran with sanctions - London Telegraph

Israel will attack Iran's nuclear facilities before the end of the year if the West has not launched an attempt to destroy the regime with crippling sanctions, a former senior defence official has claimed.

2. Israel Defence Chief: Iran Not An Existential Threat - NY Times

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak was quoted Thursday as saying he does not view Iran as a threat to the existence of the Jewish state, a view that would seem to depart from Israeli statements of the recent past.

3. Assad: Israel has shown that it does not want peace - Jerusalem Post

Turkey encouraged Syria on Wednesday to think of ways to revive the stalled peace talks with Israel, but the Syrian president said Israel does not appear to be a partner in the process.

4. Israelis, Palestinians Present Peace Blueprint - Fox News

Jerusalem divided by a series of fences, trenches and walls. The West Bank and Gaza linked by a sunken highway. Palestinians and Israelis trading land that would require 100,000 Jewish settlers to move.

Socialism and Islam as Judgment for "Such A Nation As This"

Over the weekend a million or so American citizens protested the unconstitutional establishment of socialism by the White House, the Congress and the Supreme Court. At the same time, the man who occupies the Oval Office gave a defiant, its us against them, speech to a much smaller crowd in Minnesota. The White House healthcare plan is the linchpin to undermining the Constitution, doing away with it in effect, and the usurpers in Congress and at the White House are willing to fight a divisive civil war over it. In fact, the war has already started with the government takeover of the auto and financial industries. Your Constitutional rights are violated by this revolutionary government.

I have been called a racist, a bigot, a false man of God, even the devil himself, for standing against this socialist coup de tat that has occupied the White House and was voted into Congress under false pretense. For the past several years, I have written that electing immoral people to office will have dire results. And those warnings have come home to roost. Unless we stand, unless the true people of God stand for righteousness, our nation will fall into deep judgment--in the form of socialism, then Islam. Please understand the grave circumstances that we face as a people, and then as a nation. Abandoning God, misinterpreting who He is, becoming politically correct, is bringing dreadful judgment upon us.

In Jeremiah 5:7, the Lord asks, "How shall I pardon thee for this? Their children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses." Verses 25-26 continues, "and your sins have withheld good things from you. For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich."

In verse 28, the Lord continues, "They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge." Verses 30-31 continue, "A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" And the Lord asks in verse 29, "Shall I not visit for these things? Saith the Lord: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?" It is past time for the righteous to stand. Remember Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

Israelis Feel More Secure

A poll by the War and Peace Index, published monthly by Ynetnews, has concluded that feelings of national and personal security are on the rise among Israel's Jewish citizens. Forty-nine percent of Jews in Israel ranked their personal feeling of security as high or very high, and only 19% ranked it as low, despite reports of a recent crime surge. In comparison, in April 2007 just 42.5% ranked it as high, and 24% ranked it as low. Regarding national security, 38% said they felt very secure and 22% said they didn't feel secure at all. The data constitutes a considerable improvement from 2007.

Leftists were also revealed as more confident on the national front than rightists. Just 39% of rightists said they felt very secure, while 51% of those describing themselves as leftists said they felt thus.

The surge in confidence among Israelis may be due to the high percentage (48%) of people who believe there is very little chance Israel will be attacked by Arab countries over the coming years. But 44% said they felt there was a considerable chance this would happen.

However the poll shows floundering faith in the government, with 54% saying they didn't believe it would succeed in maintaining Israel's interests if pressured by the international community into withdrawing from land

Perhaps most impressive was civilian trust in the Israel Defense Forces, with 85% saying they believed the army would be capable of protecting Israel if it were attacked. Public sentiment also leaned towards urgency in reaching an accord with the Palestinians, with 72% saying it was very urgent and just 24% saying it wasn't. (By Ynet, Ynetnews.com, September 7, 2009).

Prayer Focus

Pray that all Israel will look to the Lord for their security, trusting in him for protection and deliverance.

Scripture

"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." (Psalm 20:7)

PRAYER POINTS FOR THE UNITED NATIONS

" . . . for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." (Habakkuk 2:14)

Dear Friends,

This week, the UN General Assembly (GA) opened for the coming term. It will be a pivotal time for this influential institution as a new president of the GA is put into position. He will be the ambassador from Libya and his election reflects the growing influence of the many Muslim nations in this world body. Also, Iran's Ahmadinejad and Libya's Kadhafi will be there to address the ambassadors and visiting political leaders.

Please pray that in spite of the burgeoning influence of Islam, as well as many other ideologies and agendas operating, that Jesus Christ will be exalted as Lord of the nations and that the ambassadors and participating world leaders will come to know and revere Him. Pray that a culture of prayer will grow within the UN, its ambassadors and staff and that what was begun in such an anointed and beautiful way will continue to blossom and develop in ways that go far beyond what we can imagine.

How should we pray for the General Assembly itself?

- That General Assembly elected officials, ambassadors and visiting national political leaders will have God's wisdom and clarity to effectively deal with these and other complex issues before them.

- That they will be conscious of their need to do what is right before God and in the best interests of humanity rather than being bound by political correctness or pleasing special interests.

- That the peacekeeping and humanitarian operations of the UN will be well-resourced and effective in meeting the huge human needs that already stretch their abilities to cope.

- That the Secretary General and his office will be given special help from above to handle the difficult pressures they face and to provide wise leadership to the whole UN.

- That UN staff in New York and around the world will increasingly sense their need for God and begin to call on Him in prayer, so that a culture of dependence on God through begins to develop within this institution.

Thanks so, so much for standing with us in continuing prayer for the UN. We have agreed to cover the UN and its ambassadors in ongoing prayer for the coming year. Will you join us?

Warm regards in Christ,

John Robb

G-20 PRAYER INITIATIVE

President Obama will host the G-20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania September 24-25, 2009. Leaders and bank officials from 19 nations and the European Union along with representatives from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank will gather to discuss key issues relating to the stability of the global economy. This group represents 90% of the world's gross national product, 80% of the world's trade and two-thirds of the world's population.

It is incredible that Pittsburgh, the first non-capital city to host this event, has been chosen as the site for such an influential meeting. The Lord has brought the world to our doorstep. What a wonderful opportunity to pray! Many around the city are sensing the Lord's call to prayer for the G-20. For those who are particularly mission minded - the mission field has come to us.
Churches, organizations and individuals are being encouraged to pray not only for the decisions which will be made, but also for the peace and protection of our city as the Summit meets. Prayer points include:

- GODLY WISDOM - for all decisions
- GODLY ADVISORS - such as Daniel for all participants
- CLARITY in understanding the issues and their full impact
- DISCERNMENT - of all motives and intents
- STEWARDSHIP - of our nation and the world
- RIGHTEOUSNESS
- INTEGRITY - among all parties and in the media's coverage of the events
- PEACE AND PROTECTION for the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas
- That the world would see something unique in Pittsburgh - the Spirit of the Living God.
- That hearts would be turned to Christ  Any other issues that the Holy Spirit places on your heart
We are praying that the Christian Community of Greater Pittsburgh and beyond will surround this event with prayer - congregation by congregation, organization by organization, individual by individual; each of us following the leading of the Holy Spirit and doing our part; much the same way that the Jews of Nehemiah's day rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem.

There will be 40 hours of continuous prayer throughout the G-20 Summit, 40 days of prayer and fasting leading up to the meeting, and many other prayer gatherings taking place. Please join in! For information on prayer opportunities please visit our website by going here. Let us lift our voices to the Lord in one great chorus!

"Loving Muslims Through Prayer"

Muslims in Malaysia

Malaysia remains a key part of the Muslim world in Southeast Asia. With a burgeoning population of 24 million, 60% of whom are Malay Muslims, the nation's influence is significant in the region. Dramatic political changes have impacted Malaysia, but of special significance is the growing focus on reaching the Malay with the love of Jesus. The Malays have been much neglected throughout the history of Christian outreach. But praise God, now there are more believers focused on reaching the Malay than ever before. Increasing numbers of national believers (Chinese, Indians, and tribal people) are seeking to proclaim their faith with respect to their Muslim neighbours and colleagues. Several pioneer communities of faith have been established among Malay Muslim-background- believers.

Prayer Starters:

- Pray for the emergence of spiritual leaders among the Malay to proclaim the Gospel, teach, and pastor their own people.

- Pray for God's working through the recently completed contextualized Malay language Scriptures, as Malays have opportunity to read them.

- Pray for the believers across Malaysia, to be salt and light and an instrument in God's hands for the unreached Malay.

- Pray for God's stirring (perhaps through dreams and visions) in the hearts of Malays. Pray that many other Malay-related unreached peoples across Southeast Asia will hunger to know God.

HHS Gives Millions to States for Adoption

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $35 million to 38 states and Puerto Rico. The Adoption Incentives program is part of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997.

Kathleen Strottman, executive director of the nonpartisan Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, said her group has been working to have this important program reauthorized.

"I think it's a wonderful step forward," she said. "It shows an incredibly important first sign from the Obama administration that this is an issue that they care about." (CitizenLink)
