The Daily Brief - Wednesday, December 2, 2009

"Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" (Rev. 5:11,12)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Obama's 'Prestige' on the Line in Copenhagen - Fox News
Climate Deal Far From Certain

Analysts say that while President Obama might help strike a broadly worded climate change deal in Copenhagen, a legally binding replacement for the 1997 Kyoto Protocol may be just as unlikely after his visit as before. Read more.

- Praise God that, as more and more reports are now coming in about the specifics of The Copenhagen agenda, His hand is clearly delaying the plans of men to a future time. For more details on this situation, please note today's "On Watch In Washington" report, released by Intercessors for America, by going here. Praise God!

- "A man's heart directs his way, but the LORD directs his steps . . ." (Proverbs 16:9)

2. Democratic Senator Questions Obama's Authority in Copenhagen - Fox news

Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., reminded the president of his limits in a letter he sent to the White House last week after Obama announced he would travel to Copenhagen and lay out America's goals for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020. "I would like to express my concern regarding reports that the administration may believe it has the unilateral power to commit the government of the United States to certain standards that may be agreed upon (in Denmark). The phrase 'politically binding' has been used," Webb wrote. "As you well know from your time in the Senate, only specific legislation agreed upon in the Congress, or a treaty ratified by the Senate, could actually create such a commitment on behalf of our country."

- Offer praise that this Democratic senator from the State of Virginia has found the courage to remind the sitting president that he, too, is subject to the rules of our Constitution. May Mr. Obama read, and take heed, to the wisdom of Senator Webb.

- "In a multitude of counselors there is safety." (Proverbs 11:14)

3. Facing Scandal, Head of Climate Research Lab to Temporarily Step Down
- Fox News

The director of the embattled Climatic Research Unit in the United Kingdom is stepping down pending an investigation into allegations that he overstated the case for man-made climate change.

- Offer praise that hidden things are now being revealed about the alleged "science" that is the underpinning of the theory of global warming. Science, based upon fact, is true; all else is rumor.

- "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called . . ." (I Timothy 6:20)

4. Congress Scrutinizes Obama's Afghanistan Plan - Fox News

Lawmakers plan to use two days of high-profile hearings on the war, beginning Wednesday, to express their misgivings about Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan.

- Lord of Hosts -- Open we pray the eyes of the Lawmakers that they may hear your mighty shout in the night hours and behold the chariots of fire! (ll Ki: 16-17)

5. NATO 'confident' on Afghanistan, some allies unsure - AFP

The NATO chief said Wednesday he was confident Washington's allies would step up and boost their role in Afghanistan, despite France and Germany already refusing to pledge extra troops for the war.

- Pray that the nations will come into alignment with the perfect will and order of the Kingdom of God in all matters related to the war in Afghanistan.

- "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

6. California Insurers Say $12 Billion Invested in Iran - Fox News

California's insurance commissioner said Tuesday he will push insurance companies doing business in California to divest up to $12 billion in indirect investments in Iran's defense, nuclear, energy and banking industries. Commissioner Steve Poizner said he will urge the companies to voluntarily sell the investments they reported to his office. If they refuse to sell within 120 days, he plans to try to force the divestment so money paid by California policyholders is not flowing to a U.S.-listed state sponsor of terrorism. He also intends to subpoena executives from other companies that didn't provide the Iranian investment information to his office.

- Lord, we thank You for having given your wisdom, revelation and favor to California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner to effect this transfer of wealth out of the In kingdom of darkness. We pray that more states will follow his lead, and that Your heavenly host will protect Mr. Poizner and his household in the days ahead.

- "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." (Psalm 32:8)

7. New public option plan to be unveiled - The Hill

A new measure on the public option will be unveiled next week, which Senate Democratic leaders hope will break the logjam on healthcare reform.

- Pray GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS and TRUTH will prevail in the Senate!

- "Who is there among you who is wise and intelligent? Then let him by his noble living show forth his good works . . . but if you have bitter jealousy (rivalry, selfish ambition) in you hearts, do not pride yourselves on it and thus be in defiance of and false to the truth" {AMP} (James 3;13,14)

8. Dow hits 14-month high on data, dollar and Dubai - Reuters

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed to its highest close in 14 months on Tuesday as a weak dollar boosted natural resource companies' shares and economic data reinforced hopes for a sustainable recovery.

- "The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands. Those who make idols are like them, so is everyone trusts in and relies on them." (AMP) (Psalm 135:15)

2. 'Don't call Jerusalem Palestinian capital' - Jerusalem Post

Plan Calls for Teen Christian Convert, Muslim Parents to Talk About Religion

The runaway teen Muslim convert to Christianity who made national headlines when she ran away should talk to her parents about religion when they are reunited, according to a proposal filed in Ohio. A government caseworker outlined a plan calling for Rifqa Bary, 17, and her parents to listen to each other's views on religion.

Bary needs to hear out her parents' explanation of their beliefs when she goes home, according to the proposal filed in Franklin County Juvenile Court. In turn, her parents must listen to Bary explain her newfound Christianity.

The goal is for both sides to better understand why the teenager ran away to Florida over the summer and stayed with a Christian family she met online.

Bary has said she feared her father would harm or kill her for converting from Islam. Her father has denied the claim. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation found no credible threats to the girl.

The plan leaves open the possibility that the girl may never return home.

Bary was sent back to Ohio last month, where she is in the care of the county children's services agency. Her phone and Internet usage is being closely monitored to comply with a judge's ruling.

Bary, of suburban New Albany, disappeared July 19. Police used phone and computer records to track her to the Rev. Blake Lorenz, pastor of Orlando, Fla.-based Global Revolution Church. Authorities said the teen had met him through a prayer group on Facebook. (Fox News)

Australia's Parliament defeats global warming bill

SYDNEY - Australia's plans for an emissions trading system to combat global warming were scuttled Wednesday in Parliament, handing a defeat to a government that had hoped to set an example at international climate change talks next week.

The Senate, where Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's government does not hold a majority, rejected his administration's proposal for Australia to become one of the first countries to install a so-called cap-and-trade system to slash the amount of heat-trapping pollution that industries pump into the air.

The 41-33 vote followed a tumultuous debate in which the conservative main opposition party at first agreed to support a version of the government's bill, then dramatically dumped its leader and switched sides after bitter divisions erupted within the party.

Rudd had wanted the legislation passed before he attends next week's U.N. summit on climate change in Copenhagen so he could portray Australia as a world leader on the issue. He discussed the issue with Obama this week during a visit to the White House from which he was still returning Wednesday.

The defeat of the Australian plan could influence the views of some delegates to the Copenhagen meetings, adding weight to the argument that developed nations should curb their emissions before poorer nations are required to tackle theirs, said Frank Jotzo, an Australian National University expert on international climate change negotiations.(Associated Press) Read more.

- THANK YOU, AUSTRALIA!
