The Daily Brief - Wednesday, February 3, 2010

"Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent . . ." (Acts 17:30,31)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Obama to meet Dalai Lama despite China warnings - Fox News

President Barack Obama still plans to meet the Dalai Lama, the White House said on Tuesday, despite China's warning that such a meeting would hurt ties already strained by U.S. weapons sales to Taiwan. Digging in on two points of discord with the United States, China vowed to impose unspecified sanctions against U.S. firms selling arms to Taiwan and said any meeting between Obama and the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader would hurt bilateral ties.

The White House shrugged off Beijing's warning. "The president told China's leaders during his trip last year that he would meet with the Dalai Lama and he intends to do so," White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters. "We expect that our relationship with China is mature enough where we can work on areas of mutual concern such as climate, the global economy and non- proliferation and discuss frankly and candidly those areas where we disagree," he told reporters traveling with Obama to New Hampshire.

- Please pray over everything the Dalai Lama plans to do while he is in Washington, D.C. May the Blood of the Lamb cover all of his activities, canceling anything that will be done outside of the will of God. Pray!

- He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot carry out their plans. (Job 5:12)

2. Pentagon Officials to Review 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Policy - Fox News

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is tapping two seasoned Pentagon officials to lead the military's first in- depth study on allowing openly gay service members and promising to try to spare more troops from being dismissed in the meantime.

- Father, You destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the sin of homosexuality by reigning down fire and brimstone upon these cities. We therefore ask that men will repent and call out to You for mercy. In Jesus Name, amen.

- In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3:12,13)

3. President Obama's budget seeks an end to tax break for the middle class - The Hill

Grappling to contain record deficits, President Barack Obama is seeking to end a middle-class tax break he once said would be permanent.

- Father, we call out for Your intervention in this matter. Men have trusted in lies, and now the lies are being revealed without mercy. We bind under the Blood of Jesus any move to end tax breaks that have been a blessing for the American people. We ask You to kill and to dissolve this attempt to rob our citizens. Deliver those who would be affected by this action and set their feet on the Solid Rock, Christ Jesus. In Your Name, amen.

- The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:11)

4. Haiti says Baptists may be tried in US - AP

Haiti's prime minister said Monday it's clear to him that the 10 U.S. Baptists who tried to take 33 children out of his quake-ravaged country without permission "knew what they were doing was wrong."

- Father we ask You to intervene in this issue and let not this kind of mindset by the Haitians stand. The mercy shown these children who needed merciful actions in their defense was an act of love and protection. Bring down the Court that would not show mercy to the people of Haiti by Your power. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

- Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him. (Isaiah 30:18)

5. US raises stakes on Iran by sending in ships and missiles - The Guardian

Tension between the US and Iran heightened dramatically today with the disclosure that Barack Obama is deploying a missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.

- Father, we ask You to guide this missile shield that has been deployed to protect our American allies in the Gulf. Let it be held on course by the Mighty Hand of God. Let not one missile be used to bring destruction to Israel. Hold back the powers that would strengthen Iran s military against Israel. Put the covering of the Blood of Jesus upon all those who name the Name of Christ. Amen.

- Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. (Psalm 89:13)

6. U.S. Missile Test Mimicking Iran Strike Fails - Fox News

A U.S. attempt to shoot down a ballistic missile mimicking an attack from Iran failed after a malfunction in a radar built by Raytheon, the Defense Department said.

- Father, we have not stood firmly with Israel, so our shield of divine protection is now being lifted. We repent, Lord, and we ask You, in Your mercy, to protect all the weapons used by the U.S. to protect our country, that none malfunction. Extricate all of our weapons out of the hands of our enemies. We call on the Name of Jesus to be our sure defense. Amen.

- But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. (Psalm 5:11)

7. Intelligence officials say al-Qaeda will try to attack U.S. in next 6 months - Washington Post

The Obama administration's top intelligence officials on Tuesday described it as "certain" that al-Qaeda or its allies will try to attack the United States in the next six months, and they called for new flexibility in how U.S. officials detain and question terrorist suspects.

- Father, we ask that Your almighty power will protect America from inside out. Protect our borders, our seaports, the gates to our cities, our homes, our workplaces. Send Your angels to guard our schools, our children, and all that pertains to us. Bind the enemy in all his insidious activities. Let not one terrorist or Al Qaeda member succeed, nor anyone who is in league with them. Break the powers of darkness by the Blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.(Proverbs 1:33)

The Big Lie: Government is Freezing Spending, But Proposes Record Budget

The man who occupies the Oval Office is telling the American people that government needs to freeze its spending and quit borrowing money. On February 1, he gave a speech at the White House about his new budget that he is submitting for Congressional approval. He said, "But we can't simply move beyond this crisis; we have to address the irresponsibility that led to it. And that includes the failure to rein in spending, as well a reliance on borrowing -- from Wall Street to Washington to Main Street -- to fuel our growth. That's what we have to change. We have to do what families across America are doing: Save where we can so that we can afford what we need . . .

"I've proposed a freeze in government spending for three years. This won't apply to the benefits folks get through Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare. And it won't apply to our national security -- including benefits for veterans. But it will apply to all other discretionary government programs.

And we're not simply photocopying last year's budget; freezing spending does not mean we won't cut what doesn't work to pay for what does." Now from the very words of his mouth, any American would understand that the government is no longer doing business as usual--that the out of control spending, the socialist tenets of this administration are at an end. He has heard the people loud and clear and is submitting to their will.

Not so fast. His budget freeze, according to AP, will only account for about one percent of government spending. But that's not the least of the deception. AP reports that this budget submitted by the White House is a record $3.8 trillion, "that would boost the deficit beyond any in the nation's history while only slowly beginning to put Americans back to work." According to estimates, the budget will deepen the budget deficit to $1.56 trillion and unemployment will remain around 10 percent. Every American citizen's portion of this budget proposal is over $11,000. A family of four, for example, will owe the government over $44,000 for this year's budget, and then another $18,800 on top of that for the deficit.

South Carolina Democratic Congressman James Clyburn, the House Majority Whip, said during an appearance on Fox News, "We're not going to save our way out of this recession. We've got to spend our way out of this recession, and I think most economists know that." 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived." In this case, actions speak louder than words. These evildoers say they are acting responsibly with your hard earned tax dollars, but they are doing the opposite. And they are doing it to enslave you. You have a voice. You know the truth. Righteousness exalts a nation. Stand in Christ's righteousness. And having done all, stand.

White House Arming Islamic Enemies of Israel

The man who occupies the Oval Office has leaked to the news media that the U.S. is deploying two Patriot missile systems in each of four Islamic countries-- Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait--and is keeping two ships in the Persian Gulf capable of shooting down missiles--Iranian missiles. These moves are certainly eye openers as this White House has previously abandoned the firm hand posture of the previous administration in deference to diplomacy. In addition, these are major defensive and foreign policy decisions going forward with no "official" announcement. These are the types of steps that shed light on America's role in end time prophecy.

The news media appears lost for an explanation because this Administration has been so determined to engage Iran in talking rather than any action. The sudden and unannounced escalation of missile installations in four Islamic countries, often considered Israeli enemies and American allies, could upset the entire perceived balance of power in the Middle East. In the past, Iran has reacted to Bush Administration announcements of war games or deployment of battleships in and around the Persian Gulf. This unannounced, sudden and substantial defensive fortification in the area is likely to result in aggressive postures not only by Iran, but also by Iran's allies, Russia and China.

For nearly ten years, the U.S. has accused Iran of building nuclear bombs and the missile system to deliver them. The United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency denied Iran's intentions until recently, giving the terrorist sponsoring nation the needed time to build such weapons. Russia and China have continually blocked any substantial action against Iran from their positions on the U.N. Security Council. This is the mix: The White House has been trying to prevent Israel from attacking Iran's nuclear sites. And now the White House has beefed up defenses in the Persian Gulf area and is selling more weapons to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states at an accelerated pace.

The strategy of arming Islamic enemies of Iran is a doubled edged sword. This is putting a huge amount of firepower in the hands of Islamic rulers whose hatred for Israel runs far deeper than their hatred for their Islamic brothers. Meanwhile, the terrorist group Hezbollah reportedly has 40,000 missiles aimed at Israel. In Ezekiel 38:16, the Lord says that in the latter days Russia, Persia and all the nations in the region, "shalt come up against my people of Israel like a a cloud to cover the land." Iran's leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, says "Iran will deliver a telling blow to global powers on February 11," -- the anniversary of Iran's Islamic revolution. These are the steps that lead to prophecy fulfilled.

Don't Ask - Don't Tell

On DADT, Obama Orders Military to Fall in

While the President plows ahead on his agenda with--or more likely without--the country's support, he could emerge from these fights with nothing more to show for it than the last Democratic President. But make no mistake. If he fails to persuade Congress to legislate his extremism, this President has other ways to achieve it. Today's hearing in the Senate's Armed Service Committee is the perfect example. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, together with Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is rolling out a "relaxed" standard on homosexuality in the military that would strip the law of its teeth while the President tries to overturn it.

To prepare for what they call the "eventuality" of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal, the top brass has said it will dramatically shift the process of "outing" homosexual servicemen. For starters, the military would no longer investigate a soldier's sexuality based on a "third party" account. In other words, only "flagrant violators" would be ousted--dramatically cutting down on the number of dismissals. Also, generals and admirals will be the final authorities on which soldiers are discharged after years of processing those decisions in the lower ranks. In effect, the President is saying that he may not be able to overturn the law without Congress, but he can stop enforcing it.

Under this administration, the new policy seems to be ordering the military to disobey the rule of law--the very thing they've been sworn to protect. Richard Black (U.S. Army-Ret.), former chief of the Army's Criminal Law Division, explains why that's an irresponsible and potentially dangerous decision. In today's Washington Times, Black paints a horrifying picture of life with homosexual soldiers that would only worsen once gays and lesbians are empowered to flaunt their sexuality. "...At Fort Sill, Okla., in 1991, two homosexual recruits caught a lone soldier showering at night.

They violently sodomized the soldier, forcing him to submit by strangling him with a bath towel. At the time of trial, the victim was hospitalized under psychiatric care... Recruit training is especially problematic. Male recruits had to physically subdue one homosexual drill instructor at an Army base to keep him from raping a male recruit as that recruit struggled to escape out a second-story window... At Marine Corps Base Quantico, a company gunnery sergeant sexually attacked a young officer candidate who had stayed back at the barracks while his platoon was out training." President Eisenhower Decrees "Four Chaplains Day"

FEBRUARY 3, 1943

On the frigid night of FEBRUARY 3, 1943, the Allied ship Dorchester plowed through the waters near Greenland. At 1:00 am, a Nazi submarine fired a torpedo into its flank, killing many in the explosion and trapping others below deck. In the ensuing chaos, four chaplains: a priest, a rabbi and two protestant ministers; distributed life jackets.

When there were none left, the four chaplains ripped off their own jackets and put them on four young men. Standing embraced on the slanting deck, the chaplains bowed their heads in prayer as they sank to their icy deaths.

Congress honored them by declaring this "Four Chaplains Day."

On February 7, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower remarked:

"And we remember that, only a decade ago, aboard the transport Dorchester, four chaplains of four faiths together willingly sacrificed their lives so that four others might live. . . In the three centuries that separate the Pilgrims of the Mayflower from the chaplains of the Dorchester, America's freedom, her courage, her strength, and her progress have had their foundation in faith."

Eisenhower concluded: "Today as then, there is need for positive acts of renewed recognition that faith is our surest strength, our greatest resource." [Source: "The American Minute" with Bill Federer]
