The Daily Brief - Monday, February 8, 2010

"Have you entered the treasury of snow, or have you seen the treasury of hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war?" (Job 38: 22-23 NKJV) (Acts 17:30,31)

Note: Due to the severe weather we are having here in Washington, Congress is not in session. Instead of this week's edition of "On Capitol Hill This Week," therefore, we offer you this edition of The Daily Brief. Thank you.

Today's Daily Brief

1. Mid-Atlantic Braces for Second Massive Snowstorm - FOXNews.com

As the Mid-Atlantic digs out from a historic snowstorm that hit over the weekend, forecasters are predicting another two-footer to blanket the region beginning tomorrow.

As this second storm begins to hit our city and the East Coast, please pray once again for the safety of the seven million residents who are now in its path. Ask our Lord to send His angels to guard over our region, either canceling any power outages or helping those affected to survive. In the midst of the storm, may many "look up" to behold the One who holds all things in His hands. Amen.

"Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding . . ." (Psalm 148:7,8)

2. Deadly double bombing in Pakistan BBC

Two bombs in the Pakistani city of Karachi have killed at least 22 people and injured more than 50. In the first blast, a motorbike laden with explosives hit a bus carrying Shia Muslims to a religious procession and exploded, killing 12 people. An hour later, another bomb exploded outside the entrance to the emergency ward of the hospital where the victims of the first attack were being treated.

So much for the peace-loving religion of Islam! Power-play is a more accurate description. Pray for the citizens of Pakistan who are trying to lead lives of survival and family. Ask the Holy Spirit to invade the dominance of Islam, not only in Pakistan but also throughout the Middle East. Because God so loves life, He gave us Thou shall not murder as one of His commandments.

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

3. Obama keeps N. Korea off terror sponsor list MSNBC

President Barack Obama said Wednesday he had decided not to reinstate nuclear-armed North Korea to a list of countries that the United States considers state sponsors of terrorism.

Is this deletion of N. Korea from the terrorist list a response to threats from China? Because of our debt owed to China, the huge Communist nation can call the shots for America. Has the president given any reason for this deletion? Ask the Lord to expose any deals made here. Pray for wisdom in His delivering us from the burden of such massive debt.

And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. (Deuteronomy 28:13)

4. Brits 'waking up' to Islamic influence - One News Now

A British-born scholar who now lives in Jerusalem says the British government is finally starting to take steps to stem the tide of Islamic expansion that has led to home-grown anti-Semitism, much of which has been driven by radical Islam.

What has caused the British government to take so long to recognize the threat of Islam? A the end of WWII, England invited the Moslems into the nation to replace man power lost in two wars. Now that the arrogance of the Brits has taken a long look at the fruit of its invitation to the Moslems, and the Brits are appalled at the loss of their national identity. Pray for wise heads to rule in Britain and for intercessors to fervently cry out to the Lord for the continued existence of the country.

Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. (Psalms 107:28)

5. Tensions spill over between Washington and Beijing - London Times

Long-simmering tensions between Beijing and Washington over the value of China's currency have spilled over into angry words at the highest level, further damaging ties hit by a series of disputes in the few brief weeks since the start of the year.

When two powerful nations with completely different philosophies clash, of course, tensions will simmer! Pray that the pot does not boil over. Again we see the failure of our government to know the Word of God and to follow His advice! Man s rules make messes! Ask the Lord to direct the negotiations at all levels.

"He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit." (Proverbs 17:27)

6. String of Texas church arsons worry congregations AP

Eight Texas churches barely 150 miles apart have caught fire since New Year's Day, putting pastors and congregations on edge and on guard wondering whether theirs is next. Authorities determined seven of those fires were intentionally set and they are investigating one that broke out Thursday as a possible arson. There have been no reported injuries or arrests, and federal officials aren't saying whether there's a connection.

Pray for peace for Texas churches. Is this a spirit of anti-Christian moving across the land? Stop any such spirit right now, as we are not to be subjected to any intimidation. Pray that this area of churches will fight with warrior angels set up to ambush the enemy. Ask the Lord to reveal the perpetrator(s) of these fires and bring him to justice and to salvation in Jesus Christ.

Even as I have seen, Those who plow iniquity And sow trouble reap the same. (Job 4:8)

7. N. Korea Releases U.S. Christian Activist - Christian Post

North Korea said Friday it will release an American missionary who has been detained since Christmas for illegally entering the country from China. Through state-run media Korean Central News Agency, North Korea announced that Robert Park will be freed after expressing sincere repentance for the transgression and for his biased view of the communist country. The government decided to leniently forgive and release Park because he admitted his wrongdoing. Park, 28, is a Christian activist from Tucson, Ariz., who crossed the frozen Tumen River and entered North Korea without permission on Christmas Day. Park said he hoped his illegal entry would bring international attention to the human rights abuse in the reclusive country. He carried with him into North Korea a letter addressed to leader Kim Jong-il that proclaimed God s love and forgiveness toward the dictator and called on him to shut down the country s prison camps, release all political prisoners, and open the country up to humanitarian groups. Park also carried a Bible with him into the country.

It does seem that Robert Park has used wisdom in dealing with the N. Korean government. Praise the Lord for his release, for he did carry the Word of the Lord with him into the country. Pray for Park s safe return to the USA and for his ability to leave behind in N. Korea the letters and the Bible. Ask angels to accompany Park so that he undergoes no torture.

Therefore return now, and go in peace, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines." (1 Samuel 29:7)

8. Rep. John Murtha Dead at 77 - FoxNews

Rep. John Murtha, the first veteran of the Vietnam war elected to Congress, died of complications from gall bladder surgery. The fiery Pennsylvania Democrat was an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq. He was 77.

Lift up the family and friends of Rep. Murtha in prayer, asking our Lord to bring them comfort. May many come to Christ in this hour of sudden passings. In His Name, amen.

"Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

BREAKING! Khamenei: Iran Set to Deliver 'Punch' to Stun West on Anniversary - FoxNews

Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran is set to deliver a "punch" that will stun world powers during this week's 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution, AFP reported. "The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman, February 11, in a way that will leave them stunned," Khamenei, who is also Iran's commander-in-chief, told a gathering of air force personnel according to AFP.

Using the Word of God, declare and decree that these plans of destruction would be dismantled and come to naught. In Jesus' Name, amen.

"When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him." (Col. 2:15)
