The Daily Brief - Thursday, April 1, 2010

"Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:46,47)

Notice to our Readers:

The Daily Brief will not be published tomorrow (Friday, April 2) in honor of Good Friday; nor on Monday, April 5, in honor of "Easter Monday."

We will resume publication on Tuesday, April 6th.

We wish everyone a GLORIOUS weekend, when we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His VICTORY over hell, death and the grave. HE IS RISEN! Amen.

Today's Daily Brief

1. Navy Captures Pirates after Attack - CNN

The USS Nicholas was attacked by pirates today in the Indian Ocean, the Navy says. The warship fired back, sank the skiff and captured the pirates and a mother ship.

- Lord, we rejoice that our warship was able to stop the piracy action. We pray that the presence of US ships in the region will stop the constant attacks, and that Your Spirit will drop these Somali pirates and their leaders to their knees.

- "Fear and dread will fall on them; by the greatness of Your arm they will be as still as a stone" (Exodus 15:16a)

2. Democrats Accused of Trying to 'Intimidate' Firms for Airing Health Care Concerns - FOXNews

The CEOs of some of the country's biggest companies are being summoned to Washington to defend claims that the health care reform law would cost them millions -- a move Republicans say amounts to intimidation.

- Father, we ask that You will put a stop to the hypocrisy and intimidation of our leaders who continually try to stop lawful free speech and dissension.

- "Do not say, 'A conspiracy,' concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, nor be afraid of their threats nor be troubled. The Lord of Hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread." (Isaiah 8:12-13)

3. Ga. Lawmaker Wants to Impeach AG Over Health Care - Fox News

A Georgia legislator wants to begin the impeachment process against his state attorney general for refusing to sue the federal government over health care reform.

Republican state Rep. Mark Hatfield filed a bill Tuesday against Democratic Attorney General Thurbert Baker, who is also running for governor.

The resolution claims Baker is required by the Georgia constitution to follow Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue's direction and join 14 other states challenging the Democratic-backed health care bill.

- Lord, in this openly political refusal by the Georgia AG, we ask that truth prevail. May the people of Georgia follow the constitution of their state, and if they will not, let them be removed.

- "For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light." (Luke 8:17)

4. Obama Labor Pick's Support for Gay Rights Worries Conservatives - FOXNews

Obama's recess appointment of an outspoken supporter of gay rights to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is causing alarm among social conservatives, who worry that she'll strip religious rights from schools and businesses and "revolutionize" social norms in the workplace.

- Father, as many of the administration's poor choices for positions have already resigned, we ask that this one will as well. We pray that You will reveal all truth regarding this appointment, and remove her from such a crucial position.

- "Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hands of the unrighteous and cruel man, for You are my hope, O Lord God" (Psalm 71:4)

5. Wiretap by U.S. Illegal, Judge Says - Wall Street Journal

A federal judge ruled that the government illegally wiretapped communications between an Islamic charity and its U.S. lawyers, rebuffing the Obama administration's efforts to stop a lawsuit over the case by claiming state secrets.

- Father, before we react to this seemingly bad ruling, we ask You to examine our hearts and see if we could stand up in righteousness under a wiretap. Lord, would we rant and rave about our government if we did not know others were listening? Father, cleanse our hearts, so that we might be protected as the government searches for enemies of the state, and protect us all from a widening of that power to include the innocent.

- "I will wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word do I hope." ( Psalm 130:5)

6. Prosecutor: Agent Infiltrated Christian Militia - NewsMax

Detention hearings for members of a Christian militia group who authorities say plotted to incite a violent revolt are recessed until Thursday. A federal prosecutor who argued to hold them without bail said Wednesday that an undercover agent infiltrated the group and built explosives under the direction of suspected ringleader David Brian Stone.

- Lord, we are aware that undercover operations often net criminals. We ask, however, that as the government power grows, and more hostility comes against Christians that Your protection and discernment will cover Your beloved ones. As infiltration of Christian groups was the norm in Communist regimes, we pray that it will not become the norm in America.

- "Let all them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who seek to destroy my life; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish me evil." (Psalm 40:13-14)

7. CIA: Iran capable of producing nukes - Washington Times

Iran is poised to begin producing nuclear weapons after its uranium program expansion in 2009, even though it has had problems with thousands of its centrifuges, according to a newly released CIA report.

- Lord, Iran kept everyone caught in a web of ineffective diplomacy while they ramped up their nuclear program. We pray that Your power will be revealed against the wicked, and that Your angelic Host will put a stop to this mad man.

- "the desire of the wicked shall perish." (Psalm 112: 10c)

Obama says he wants to see U.N. sanctions in place against Iran within weeks.

- Father, bring this to pass, not within weeks, but now, by the power of Your hand. Overrule all false statements, which bring false hope, that hold no substance. God, we call out for your help to place these sanctions against Iran. Hold back the powers of darkness and break the control of the evil men. In Jesus Name.

Reduce to nothing the efforts of Iran to bring chaos or confusion and totally dismantle their armament. In Jesus Name.

- "At God's rebuke, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep. God, even our God, is to be feared: and who may stand in Your sight when once You are angry? 4. Liam Fox: 'Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons - London Telegraph

- Father, close the door to all nuclear weapons getting into Iran. Disarm the enemy. Sound out Your voice, O God, and thunder upon Iran's nuclear armaments hail stones and coals of fire. Discomfit those who want to make war and cause destruction of innocent lives. Deliver the righteous in that nation from their strong enemy and bring them into a safe place where they will not be seen. In Jesus Name.

- "And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, says the Lord of hosts." (Malachi 4:3)
