The Daily Brief - Thursday, April 15, 2010

"Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice."
(I Chronicles 16:10)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Signs in the Heavens and on the Earth . . . in the News. . . - AP

Acts 2:19 -- And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

a. Soaring meteor lights up skies across the Midwest - AP

A large meteor streaked across the Midwestern sky momentarily turning night into day, rattling houses and causing trees and the ground to shake, authorities said Thursday. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

b. Volcanic Ash Cloud Halts Flights Across Europe - AP

Authorities closed air space over Britain, Ireland and the Nordic countries. Tens of thousands of passengers were stranded as flights were canceled and it was unclear when it would be safe to fly again.

- Pray that the peoples of the earth will not miss the signs in the heavens, and on earth. It is time to wake up and to repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.

- For the fireball: " . . . and great signs shall there be from heaven." (Luke 21:11)

- For the ash cloud from the volcano: "For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples . . ." (Isaiah 60:2)

2. World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder Stands Up to Obama - World Jewish Congress

In an unprecedented open letter to Hussein Obama, Ronald Lauder, the President of the World Jewish Congress asks the President to stop his public feud with the State of Israel and start dealing with real issues like a nuclear Iran. In a letter that was published today in the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post, Mr. Lauder takes the bold step of standing up for Israel and the Jewish people. With tension growing between the Obama White House and the government of Israel, this is the first time the World Jewish Congress has publicly challenged the conduct of American foreign policy toward Israel.

__Thank You, Lord for this courageous move by the WJC. We ask Your protection over Mr. Lauder, and that his words will soak deep into the hearts of all who read them. We pray for pressure to come to bear upon our President in a way that will cause him to turn from his current stance and move toward a godly position with regard to Israel.

- "We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29b)

3. Army Doc Questions Obama's Citizenship, Won't Deploy - AP

An Army doctor is under investigation after questioning on YouTube whether President Barack Obama is U.S.-born -- then disobeying orders to report for duty in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin failed to report to Fort Campbell, Ky., on Monday, showing up instead at his old job in a clinic in the Pentagon, Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, an Army spokesman, said Wednesday. Lakin was reassigned immediately to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington while the investigation is under way.

Though officials in Hawaii verify that Obama was born there, so-called birthers claim he was born outside the United States and is ineligible to be president. Lakin says he wants to see the birth certificate as proof Obama is his commander in chief and thus that the deployment order for Afghanistan is legal.

- Father within this incident is the fire that continues to smolder under the surface of our President's status. As people who have questioned his eligibility are sarcastically called "birthers", anger and bitterness have grown exponentially. We pray for Lt Col Lakin, and ask Your protection. We pray for this eligibility issue to be once and for all put to rest, and that truth be revealed so that all will see it. We bind the lies and deception, and loose Your Light to purge this darkness.

- "And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it, put it out, or has not absorbed it, has not appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it." (John 1:5 Amplified)

4. GOP May Threaten to Block Financial Regulations Overhaul - Fox News

Republican leaders, responding to growing resistance in their party to a financial regulations overhaul being pushed by President Obama, are considering ways to potentially block the legislation if it makes it to the Senate floor without more bipartisan input.

The options being discussed include sending a letter to the Democratic leadership signed by all 41 Republican senators threatening to unify against the legislation, Dow Jones reports. The GOP has enough votes to mount a filibuster.

The latest developments come on a day when the White House and congressional Republicans sparred over how to protect taxpayers against "too big to fail" financial institutions, sharply disagreeing on whether legislation backed by Obama would leave the government on the hook for bailing out firms whose failure might threaten the economy.

- Father as both parties wrangle over legislation that is before them, we ask that You will intervene to reveal what is good for America and what is not. Let all plans for our destruction be destroyed, and any bills that would help us be passed with wise counsel. We ask that the useless political angst, the spirit of division be cast out of our leadership!

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17)

5. Fed: Recovery is Spreading, Jobs Still Weak - AP

The economic recovery is spreading to most parts of the country. Merchants are seeing better sales and factories are boosting production, but many companies are still wary of ramping up hiring, the Federal Reserve reported Wednesday.

- Lord there was once a fable about an emperor so arrogant that his servant was able to convince him that though he was buck naked, he was wearing a wonderful garment. As the leadership of the Federal Reserve assures us that recovery is here, the jobless numbers tell us it is much like the "Emperor's New Clothes." We pray, Lord that You will have mercy over our nation, and bring new jobs onto the market so that real recovery can take place.

- "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'- and do not kow that you are miserable, poor, blind, and naked-I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire. . ." (Revelation 3:17, 18a)

6. Former N.Y. Gov. Pataki Announces Plan to Repeal Health Care Law - Fox News

Former New York Gov. George Pataki announced Wednesday the creation of a national organization that will work to repeal the Democrats' health care overhaul, which he called a "horrific" and costly bungle. Pataki said his nonprofit group, Revere America, will develop a grassroots network and highlight national opposition to the health care law, which he believes will impose a $500 billion burden on U.S. taxpayers and tighten government control of the health care system.

- Lord we thank You for this grass roots effort to remove the new healthcare law from America. We place ourselves in Your hand for the ultimate outcome. We trust You, Lord, not man!

- "Some trust in horses, some trust in chariots, be we will remember the name of our God." (Psalm 20:7)

7. Iran Announces Batch of Higher Enriched Uranium - AP

Iran has succeeded in producing its first significant batch of further enriched uranium, the country's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi said Wednesday, a move defying U.N. demands to halt the controversial program. The uranium has been enriched from around 3.5 percent to 20 percent purity, needed to fuel a medical research reactor, Salehi said, according to the ISNA news agency. That level is far below the more than 90 percent needed to build a nuclear weapon, but U.S. officials have expressed concern Iran may be moving closer to the ability to reach weapons-grade level

- Lord, as the US intelligence community states that Iran won't have a nuclear device for about a year, we ask that You not only delay but destroy their ability to produce such weapons. We ask that You split the ground beneath the nuclear facilities of Iran before their program produces a bomb that would devastate Your people.

- "I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them, says the Lord your God." (Amos 9:15)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

- "Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime . . ." (2 Samuel 7:10)

1. Syria Gave Scuds to Hezbollah, U.S. Says - Fox News

Syria has transferred long-range Scud missiles to the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials alleged, in a move that threatens to alter the Middle East's military balance and sets back a major diplomatic outreach effort to Damascus by the Obama administration.

2. Obama to Sarkozy: I'll keep up pressure on Israel, Palestinians - Ha'aretz

Hussein Obama has told French President Nicolas Sarkozy that he is determined to keep the pressure on Israel and the Palestinians to renew peace talks and implement confidence-building measures. Obama made his comments despite potential political damage at home ahead of the mid-term congressional elections in November.

3. UK authority: Western Wall not in Israel - Ynet News

The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) criticized Israel for including pictures of the Western Wall in a tourism advertisement, claiming that the holy site is technically not located within the country's borders, the Independent reported Wednesday.

4. Hamas orders Gaza smuggling tunnels shut under Egyptian pressure - Ha'aretz

Hamas on Wednesday ordered Gaza residents to shut smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt indefinitely, residents and tunnel operators said Wednesday.

5. Poll: 91% against Obama imposing deal - Jerusalem Post

A huge majority of Israelis would oppose an attempt by Hussein Obama to impose a final-status agreement with the Palestinians, a poll sponsored by the Independent Media Review and Analysis (IMRA) organization found this week.

Islamic Heritage Of This President Runs Deep In US Policy Toward Israel

The Muslim-raised boy who would become the "democratically" elected President of the United States is leaving no doubt of his allegiance to his upbringing. In an interview with New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof in March 2007, he "recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. [He] described the call to prayer as "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset." The opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer are, and I only quote--not remotely believe: "Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme! I witness that there is no god but Allah. I witness that there is no god but Allah. I witness that Muhammad is his prophet." [ A word of caution from CHPP: do not speak these words out loud.]

This sentiment is very evident in the White House policy on Israel. The Koran commands its followers to kill Christians and Jews. And since the very beginning of this particular administration, Israel has been singled out for what amounts to blackmail foreign policy. First, White House Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel put Israel on notice that if it wanted the US to pressure Iran on nuclear weapons, Israel needed to agree to a peace settlement with the Palestinian Authority. This Administration has refused weapons sales to Israel, has refused visas for Israeli nuclear scientists to receive continuing education in the US, and is livid over Israel building houses in Jerusalem.

At the recent nuclear summit in Washington, he publicly singled out Israel, saying, "And so whether we're talking about Israel or any other country, we think that becoming part of the NPT is important." This is the first time an American president publicly singled out Israel for not being part of the NPT.

He also tied the Israeli behavior on peace with the Palestinians to US troop security. He told reporters, " . . . when conflicts break out, one way or another we get pulled into them. And that ends up costing us significantly in terms of both blood and treasure." This language diplomatically implies that Israel is to blame for the war on terror and signals to Islamic nations that they have an ally in the White House.

Never before has this happened. The man in the White House can claim Christianity all he wants, but as Jesus said in Matthew 7:20-21, "Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven." And the Lord says in Zechariah 12:9, " . . . I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." No one can claim that it is the will of the Father to assist in cutting Israel in half and establishing a state within it that has vowed to destroy Israel and annihilate Jews. Yet a Muslim-raised boy who would be president is part and parcel to the Islamic plan against Israel. What next?

Summit Or Seminar?

Big Media was giddy last night. If we are to believe ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc., the president they shamelessly promoted when he ran in 2008, the man, who to this day, they refuse to subject to the same level of examination and criticism that is applied to most other politicians, in less than 24 hours brought 47 nations together to stop nuclear weapons.

But, of course, he did no such thing. The 47 nations agreed to voluntary goals to be more careful about how they handle nuclear material. Meanwhile, Iran continued to speed toward nuclear weapons, while nations at the "summit," including key countries like Brazil and China, made it clear that they would not endorse serious sanctions against Ahmadinejad's regime.

Virtually the entire summit/seminar was conducted with no media allowed. It was so bad that one Washington Post columnist wrote that Obama appeared to be "putting on a clinic for some of the world's greatest dictators in how to circumvent a free press."

Why would Obama, always happy to be on camera, suddenly shun the media? Because if the proceedings had been covered, it would have been clear that nothing of consequence happened.

Update: Homosexuals' "Day of Silence"

Jersey School Calls off Dress Reversal

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Women's History Month, but according to parents in New Jersey, asking third grade boys to dress up like girls shouldn't be one of them. As part of a graded assignment at Maude Wilkins Elementary School, teacher Tonya Uibel sent a letter home asking parents to cross-dress their kids for a "fashion show" that "just happened" to coincide with the homosexuals' Day of Silence. "If your child is a young man," Uibel wrote, "he does not have to wear a dress or skirt, as there are many time periods where women wore jeans, pants, and trousers."

Mom Janine Giandomenico, who led the charge against the idea, said her son was horrified at the idea and begged her not to make him do it. "My husband and I are very open-minded, but... [t]he school system is trying to introduce alternative lifestyles in a sneaky way. At nine years old, I'm not ready to have the conversation with my son about homosexuals, lesbians, and cross-dressing." Principal Beth Norcia got so many complaints that she ultimately cancelled the event, claiming her teacher had been "misunderstood." Actually, parents understand all too well what the point of this exercise was: to give the transgender community an opportunity to indoctrinate their kids! (Family Research Council)

Prop 8 Repeal Quits While It's Behind

Same-sex "marriage" isn't nearly as popular as homosexuals would have us believe. In California, the effort to repeal Proposition 8 fell flat on its face this week, as activists announced that they couldn't get enough signatures to qualify it for the November ballot. John Henning, who headed up the campaign "Love Honor Cherish," said his group failed to meet the Monday deadline for names and will instead focus on putting the repeal on the 2012 ballot. Local homosexual activist groups were on their own for this failed effort to kill Proposition 8, because national gay and lesbian organizations refused to help fast-track the process for fear that it would hand their movement another messy defeat.

Here in Washington, D.C., a court date has finally been set for the pro-marriage initiative in the nation's capital. On May 4, a nine-judge panel at the District Court of Appeals will, for the first time, consider the legal issues surrounding the local ballot initiative. If the ballot initiative is successful, it will repeal the recently enacted same-sex "marriage" law and restore the God-ordained definition of marriage in the District. Stay tuned for more developments on that case. (Family Research Council)

Pro-Life Victories in Nebraska

After two years of the most pro-abortion administration in history, more states are taking pains to relieve the unborn of theirs. Yesterday, Nebraska made good on its promise to drive a stake directly into the heart of the state's abortion business. With the overwhelming support of his legislature, Gov. Dave Heineman (R) signed two bills into law that could revolutionize the pro-life debate nationwide. The first law requires women to undergo a mental health screening before they abort their babies. The second, which even the Associated Press called "groundbreaking," is an outright ban on abortion from 20 weeks on. Based on nine scientific studies, pro-life leaders argued that late-term babies can feel pain and, as such, should not be victims of abortion violence. Interestingly enough, the idea came about as a strategy for driving Dr. LeRoy Carhart, an ally of the late George Tiller, out of Nebraska. Carhart, one of the few who still perform barbaric late-term abortions, promised to carry on Tiller's gruesome legacy. Pro-lifers saw this as one way to force him to pack up and relocate.

Both laws are the first of their kind--but, given the interest of other states, probably not the last. Several governors have been eyeing Nebraska 's debate to see if they should follow suit--or, more accurately, lawsuit. Irate at the prospect of losing business, national organizations like NARAL and Planned Parenthood have hunkered down to plot a major legal challenge. No matter how the courtroom drama unfolds, this is a sweeping victory in the court of public opinion. Even if judges manage to overturn the law, Nebraska has succeeded in sparking a national dialogue about fetal pain in a country that's reached a pro-life tipping point. Whether by ultrasounds or the science of sensory development, the Cornhuskers are helping to tug on the sensibilities of more Americans. In a country where even criminals are executed humanely, this should trigger some key questions. If we spare these offenders the pain of their deaths, how much more should we be concerned about the s uffering of these innocent and viable human beings? Barring some judicial intervention, the law is scheduled to go into effect this October. (Family Research Council)

Prayer makes a difference for unborn babies in Nebraska

Prayer makes a difference for unborn babies in Nebraska. As the Unicameral adjourns today in Lincoln, two important pro-life bills stir local and national attention. For those that have joined the State Capitol Prayer Initiative prayer times on every third Saturday of each month in Lincoln, this bill is not new news. In response to Nebraska's 97th Legislative Session, senators recognized prayer as the missing component in their legislative efforts. Nebraska Family Council has prayer walked inside the Capitol since 2002. Since this time, there has been an advance in pro-life legislation.

According to Karen Bowling of the Nebraska Family Council State Capital Prayer Initiative, LB1103 or the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is a "first of its kind in the United States. LB1103 prohibits abortion after 20 weeks gestation except when the life of the mother is in danger and an abortion is necessary to avert her death. Previously, living outside the womb (22-24 weeks) was the criteria. In addition to the lives being saved from the 20-week ban, Nebraska's legislation redirects the abortion debate and becomes a road map for similar legislation in other states."

Skeptics of the bill ask: Do unborn babies feel pain? According to Dr. J.C. Willke's research, both babies and fetuses at eight weeks respond to a prick in the hand by opening his or her mouth and pulling away.

Bowling points out that "LB 1103 places Nebraska back into the center of the abortion debate. Just as Nebraska led the nation in the partial birth abortion ban, it is our hope this bill will become a landmark decision. The additional innovative pro-life bill passed this session, LB 594, introduced by Senator Cap Dierks of Ewing, requires abortionists to screen mothers for risk factors that increase their likelihood of having post-abortion complications and better protects women from undergoing coerced abortions. This bill ensures women will be given general information about abortion risks and specific information relevant to individual women according to their unique risk factors."

Bowling reminds all believers, "Prayer is God's tool to impact history!"
