The Daily Brief - Thursday, June 10, 2010

"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." (2 Chronicles 15:7)

The Daily Brief

1. U.S., Russia, France notify IAEA of concerns over Iran nuclear fuel deal - Ha'aretz

The United States, Russia, France and the United States Big powers have notified the UN nuclear watchdog of their concerns about a proposal for Iran to send 1.2 tons of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in return for reactor fuel, the IAEA and diplomats said on Wednesday.

- Father, You alone know what has happened to the hearts of Turkish leaders to completely turn away from Israel in such a short time. We pray Your mighty protection over Israel and over PM Netanyahu. Let all plans of Iran be thwarted by Your power!

- "Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help. Also draw out the spear, and stop those who pursue me. Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." (Psalm 35:2,3)

2. Iranian Leader Dismisses U.N. Sanctions as 'Annoying Flies' - AP

The U.S. and its allies scored a long-sought victory Wednesday by pushing through new U.N. sanctions over Iran's nuclear program, punishments Tehran dismissed as "annoying flies, like a used tissue."

- Father, this arrogant leader mocks You, and mocks Your people. We pray that You cause his own people to rise up against him and remove him from power. Remember how You handled Herod and Nebuchadnezzer, Lord, and remove this man from his dictatorship.

- "Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; do not further his wicked scheme, lest they be exalted." (Psalm 140:8)

3. Senate Nears Showdown on Greenhouse Gases - AP

The Senate is heading toward a closely watched vote on whether the Obama administration should be allowed to go ahead with regulations curtailing greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and other major polluters.

The minority Republican-led measure, coming to a vote late Thursday, would stop the Environmental Protection Agency from carrying out rules to regulate carbon and other greenhouse gases under the federal Clean Air Act.

- Lord, we pray that You will save American businesses from regulation which may be unnecessary, or cause a further crumbling of our economy, and an implementation of socialism.

- "And those who know Your name will put their trust in You." (Psalm 9:10a)

4. US Arrests 2,000 in Mexican Drug Trafficking Probe - AP

Law enforcement agencies have arrested more than 2,000 people in a 22-month investigation targeting Mexican drug trafficking organizations in the United States, the Justice Department announced Thursday. The probe, called Project Deliverance, focused on the transportation of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and marijuana along the Southwest border.

- Thank you, Father, for this step of victory against the drug cartels. We pray, however, that you will destroy the root of the drug trafficking on both sides of the border and move to change the hearts and minds of the people involved.

- "Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders." (Isaiah 60:18a)

5. US lawmakers see action on yuan in two weeks - AFP

US lawmakers have said they will launch legislative action in two weeks to punish China for refusing to revalue its currency. They said they were disappointed with President Barack Obama's administration for not being able to push the Chinese leadership to let the yuan appreciate to reflect market rates.

- Lord, as China has been accused of currency manipulation for many years, we pray that You will cause that nation to come under Your authority, not only in economics, but in all areas. For any legal action, we pray wisdom over our leaders to see that the actions will not have more negative repercussions on China's vast holdings of American companies and dollars.

- "Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler." (Psalm 91:3a)

6. Fed chairman soft-pedals urgency of reducing spending, raising taxes - Washington Times

While repeating past warnings about the dire consequences of continuing to amass unsustainable debts, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke took a surprisingly conciliatory tone Wednesday in his latest testimony on budget issues before Congress.

- Lord, whatever Mr Bernanke is doing or thinking, we ask that You grant him the wisdom of Your Spirit. We once again ask You to stabilize our economy, and stop the runaway spending and dangerous economic policies of the government.

- "My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart understanding." (Psalm 49:3)

7. The Honor You Won't See - Reuters

Officials at New York City's Empire State Building draw ire after again refusing to glow blue and white in honor of Mother Teresa's 100th birthday.

- Lord, we pray for a huge outcry from the people, and a mighty move of Your Spirit over the officials at the Empire State Building.

- "To him who orders his conduct aright, I will show the salvation of God." (Psalm 50:23b)

8. Publishing Company Under Fire for Putting Warning Label on Constitution - Fox news

A small publishing company is under fire after putting warning labels on copies of the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and other historical documents.

Wilder Publications warns readers of its reprints of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers, among others, that "This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today."

- Father, the actions of this company grieve us tremendously. We have fallen so far from You that no one recognizes Your hand in the documents that formed our nation. Our "values" should be the same for eternity, not flutter in the winds of time. We stand together in grace and humility, asking for You to move across this land in the power of Your Spirit to bring an awakening to Your precepts and love.

- "Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28)

The Daily Jot

Of Terrorist Blockade Runners, Helen Thomas, and Errant Doctrine

In Genesis Chapter 12, the Lord speaks to Abram about Israel. Verse 2 says "And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing." Verse 3 continues, "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Here God is establishing Abram to be the father of Israel and that all that bless Israel will be blessed. Nevertheless all the families of the earth be blessed because, in my opinion, Jesus Christ, the Son of God and a Jew from Nazareth of Israel, died for our sins that those who believe in Him shall have everlasting life.

Many have written me, and there are those with whom I have spoken, who curse Israel for stopping the terrorist sponsored Gaza blockade runners. They say that Israel is no more than another country; that God's favor of Israel is Old Testament and that all mankind, Jews and Gentiles alike, come under the blood covenant of Jesus Christ. They correctly say that there is only one way to heaven, and that's through Jesus Christ. A little bit of truth makes a better lie, even among Christians. God's word is never changing. Numbers 23:19 says, "God is no man that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"

The Apostle Paul explains in Romans 11:1-2, "I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid (meaning: by no means!). For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew." Verse 11 continues saying through Israel's fall "salvation is come unto the Gentiles". Paul using the example of a wild olive tree, explains that Christians were grafted in to the root. And while some branches, such as the Jews, were broken off "God is able to graft them in again." Paul explains that God is not yet finished with Israel, saying in Romans 9:28, "For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth."

Today's Israel is fulfillment of the prophecy of the Lord in Ezekiel 36:24, "For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land." The reestablishment of Israel as a nation is the timepiece of prophecy. And in Ezekiel 36, God speaks of the unfinished work to be completed with this nation--new heart, new spirit, and dwelling "in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God." Israel was not again a nation until 1948 and it was established in the land of the original nation that God might complete His work. When people and nations curse Israel, they are bringing upon themselves a curse. It is better to bless.

Tuesday's Primaries

A New Generation

It's also become popular in recent years for liberal commentators to demand that the GOP abandon conservative values if it hopes to attract minority voters. The Republican gubernatorial nominee in Nevada, Brian Sandoval, is Hispanic. The Republican Senate nominee in Florida will be Marco Rubio, who is Cuban-American.

Like Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Nikki Haley is the child of immigrant parents from India. (Raised in the Sikh religion, Haley is now a Methodist.) The top-vote getter for the open Republican House seat in South Carolina's First District, Tim Scott, is a black conservative. And speaking of black conservatives, Star Parker won the Republican nomination for California's 37th District last night too.

The GOP has been criticized for "running retreads" in recent presidential contests. But if these folks get elected, they will quickly become rising stars in the Republican Party, joining a new generation of conservative leaders like Mike Pence, Jim DeMint, John Thune and Paul Ryan. (Gary Bauer)

About Obamacare

Does ObamaCare Cover Broken Promises?

One of the major selling points of ObamaCare was Obama's oft-repeated promise that if you liked the coverage you have now, you would get to keep it. Politico reports today that many people in part-time jobs may lose their coverage. Why? Because the unintended consequences of ObamaCare will likely make limited-benefit plans or "mini-med plans" illegal.

A coalition of trade associations, including the National Restaurant Association, the National Retail Federation and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, are asking the administration to exempt the plans for now. But if the White House doesn't act, nearly one and a half million people may lose their coverage in September. But wait . . . there's more.

ObamaCare is also costing jobs. nHealth of Richmond, Virginia, recently informed its employees and sales agents that the company was shutting down. Why? Because of ObamaCare. Here's an excerpt from the company's letter: "As I'm sure you are aware, the new federal healthcare legislation has created considerable uncertainties in the market for health insurance . . . the uncertainties in the regulatory climate coupled with new demands imposed by national healthcare reforms have made it challenging . . . to remain viable over the long run."

The letter went on to say that it would terminate all contracts by the end of the year. So not only are nHealth employees out of work, but nHealth customers are losing their insurance coverage too. Two other companies also recently announced that they would not sell policies as of June 30th. (Gary Bauer)

Reuters "Doctors" Flotilla Photos

'Al-Reuters' Strikes Again: Doctored Photo Fools the World

An alert blogger has caught the Reuters news agency in an apparent act of journalistic deception and libel against Israel and its soldiers. Twice in the same day, the news agency edited photographs taken by terrorists on the Gaza flotilla intercepted May 30, in a way that seems calculated to deceive the global public. The agency received photographs which showed Israeli soldiers surrounded by men holding knives - and cropped out the knives before passing on the photographs to its clients worldwide. (Israel National News)

About Israeli Intelligence

Israel's Gaza raid hindered by weak intelligence tools

A number of military analysts are questioning why advanced intelligence systems were not used to give a real-time intelligence to tactical commanders who oversaw the May 31 raid by Israeli forces on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, reports David Eshel at Aviation Week's Ares Blog.

The use of sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicle sensors and satellite images might have provided Israeli commandos participating in the raid with sufficient information to have achieved success for the pre-dawn mission with no loss of civilian life. Yet as the mission played out, at least nine passengers were killed and as many as 100 wounded.

One glaring question is why the commandos, armed with only paintball rifles, were sent on such a highly hazardous task. The commandos apparently expected a relatively passive reception from human rights activists in the six-boat aid convoy, but the presence of militant Turkish and Palestinian Islamists in one of the vessels appears to have been blatantly ignored during the pre-mission briefing. Quoting P.M. Netanyahu

Netanyahu says Gaza flotilla inquiry will probe activists as well as IDF

Israel's inquiry into its raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla that killed nine last week will examine how "extremists" were able to board the convoy, as well as the actions of Israel's military and government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday. Speaking at a conference organized by TheMarker, the Haaretz group's daily finance newspaper, Netanyahu said the world had focused too much on Israel without paying due attention to violent attacks on Israeli troops. "I want the whole truth to come to light," he said. "So it is important to include answers to questions that have until now been ignored by many actors within the international community." The Good News Corner

Gulf Spill Prayer Walk Begins June 14

"We plan to visit and listen to the stories of those impacted by the BP spill, pray with them, and ask them for ways the evangelical church can help." (Rev. Mitch Hescox)

The staff of the Evangelical Environmental Network including The Rev. Mitch Hescox, President/CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN), and other Creation Care leadership and other ministry organization members will begin a Gulf Spill Prayer Walk starting at Gulfport, MS, on June 14, 2010. The complete itinerary will be available here.

The Gulf Spill Prayer Walk will focus on the human impacts of those affected by the spill. We plan to visit and listen to the stories of those impacted, pray with them, and ask them for ways the evangelical church can help. We will use the information to inform the evangelical body of Christ on the tragedy and seek ways to help as directed by local pastors and those impacted. Our goal is to build long-term relationships with those being affected and bring Christ's hope to this human and environmental catastrophe.

We hope to meet with individuals in churches, coffee shops, and in their daily life to insure that Gulf coast residents know that they are cared for and that the church is preparing to respond. EEN is putting its motto into effect, "We care about Creation because we CARE for people."

If you are a Gulf Coast church, business, or individual who would open your doors for a time of prayer, listening, and pastoral care which would assist in this ongoing ministry, please contact Mitch Hezcox at mitch@creationcare.org (Reported by: Intercessors for America)
