The Daily Brief - Wednesday, July 14, 2010

"As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him." ((2 Samuel 22:31)

The Daily Brief

1. Debt Commission Leaders Paint Gloomy Picture - NewsMax

The heads of President Barack Obama's national debt commission painted a gloomy picture Sunday as the United States struggles to get its spending under control.

- God, we ask that You go to the very root of the national debt issue in America, and pull up and pull out all the insidious organizations and their people in power who are using debt as the means of pulling down the stability and security of America. Speak Your Word from heaven against them. Strip them of their power and influence, and push them back behind the veil of the blood of Jesus which they cannot penetrate. Cripple and weaken their arms that reach out like an octopus to destroy our nation and people. In Jesus Name.

- "O let the peoples be glad and sing for joy, for God shall judge the peoples uprightly, and guide the peoples on the earth." (Psalm 67:4)

2. Federal Budget Gap Tops $1 Trillion Through June - ABC News

The federal deficit has topped $1 trillion with three months still to go in the budget year, showing the lasting impact of the recession on the government's finances.

- Father, this is the result of the hidden evil powers of earthly hands that dictate to our government what they are to do to accomplish their destructive plan for America. We call forth legions of warring angels from heaven to block these evil men and women in their tracks so they cannot move forward another step. Save our country, O God, by covering the people and land with a Spirit of repentance crying out for forgiveness of sin. In Jesus Name.

- "O God Your way is holiness; Who is a great God like God? You are the God who does wonders; You have revealed among the peoples Your strength. You have redeemed Your people with Your arm." (Psalm 77:15-16)

3. BP delays 'integrity test' on well that could lead to oil gusher's end - Washington Post

The "integrity test" that could potentially shut down the Gulf of Mexico oil gusher has been delayed until at least Wednesday, a setback in the effort to put an end to what has been called the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

- O God, we ask that You intervene and stand against any and all forces that would delay this test to shut down the oil gusher. Bind under the blood of Jesus all political efforts that would use this disaster for their gain. Lord, send angels over the sea and this oil well and may the finger of God stop the flow of oil. In Jesus Name.

- "Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD." (Ezekiel 32:14)

4. Republicans Propose Cutting Obama's Budget - Fox News

Republicans in the Senate are backing a plan to shave $20 billion from President Barack Obama's budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

- God, we ask that You intervene in the affairs of men and strengthen the efforts to push forward this plan to completion. Block by the blood of Jesus all forces that would hinder its passage. God, we ask that You take this budget in Your hands and deliver us as a nation from further debt. In Jesus Name.

- "Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain You: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." (Psalm 55:22)

5. Obama Plans to Cut Up to 40 Percent of Nukes - Fox News

A government document reveals that the Obama administration is planning to cut the U.S. nuclear stockpile by up to 40 percent by 2021.

- Father, let nothing step in the way of our national security. Release from heaven a guard around our nuclear stockpile and continuously multiply it by the hand of our God. Defeat and destroy any word, action or document that would cut production of necessary armory to defend America from its enemies, both inside and outside. Protect America by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "They that hate thee (America) shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought." (Job 8:22)

6. Confidence in Obama reaches new low, Washington Post-ABC News poll finds - Washington Post

Public confidence in President Obama has hit a new low, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll. Four months before midterm elections that will define the second half of his term, nearly six in 10 voters say they lack faith in the president to make the right decisions for the country, and a clear majority once again disapproves of how he is dealing with the economy.

- God, surround Your people with holy protection from heaven that they unanimously stand for the foundational truths and standards upon which America was built, which has caused us to forever be a strong nation. Reinforce our nation and its people with heaven's blessings and power. Surround us with the blood of Jesus that our enemies cannot prevail against us. In Jesus Name.

- "Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles." (II Chronicles 32:7-8)

7. Pelosi, White House Feud Over Gibbs' House Prediction - Fox News

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the driving force behind the Obama agenda in Congress, sharply criticized White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs at a closed-door House Democratic caucus meeting late Tuesday, according to Democratic sources.

- God, we call for angels to stand with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, and every word spoken against him will fall to the ground and die. Defend his cause and walk with him as his voice becomes stronger and more potent. In Jesus Name.

- "God will send from heaven, and save him from the reproach of those that would swallow him up. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth." (Psalm 57:3)

8. Nearly 70 Members of Congress Go to Court to Defend The National Day of Prayer - CNS News

Sixty-three (63) members of the House and four senators, Republicans and Democrats, have weighed in on the legal case to defend the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer.

- God, we praise Your holy name for this brave stand to defend the National Day of Prayer. There is no power as great as prayer in the name of Jesus. Prayer brings God into the situation. Prayer is nothing but shear holy power coming down and intervening in the lives of people. Prayer pierces the world of darkness and brings light, the light of Jesus. We thank you mighty God for these 63 people who have agreed to stand in agreement with heaven. In Jesus Name.

- "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)

9. More Than 1,000 Exposed to Dengue in Florida: CDC - ABC News

Five percent of the population of Key West, Florida -- more than 1,000 people -- have been infected at some point with the dengue virus, government researchers reported on Tuesday.

- Father, we ask that the blood of Jesus cleanse these people from the dengue virus, and they be healed and recover in full health. In Jesus Name.

- "Who, His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree; that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness, by whose stripes you were healed." (I Peter 2:24)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Who should not revere You, O King of the nations? This is Your due. Among all the wise men of the nations and in all the kingdoms, there is none like You." (Jeremiah 10:7)

1. Netanyahu doubts Mideast peace deal possible by 2012 - Ha'aretz

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that he did not envision a negotiated Middle East peace settlement within the next two years, despite his Palestinian counterpart's declared intentions to set up infrastructure for a state by 2011.

2. Obama rejected Netanyahu request for F-15E in 'tough' session - World Tribune

Obama has rejected another Israeli request for advanced combat platforms.

3. Int'l actions legitimize our policy - Jerusalem Post

Calls by the US and the European Union's to the ship's captain to accept Israel's diversion requests legitimizes Israel's policy, said Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Wednesday morning to Israel Radio.

4. Foreign Ministry advises IDF: Don't stop Gadhafi ship until it approaches Gaza waters - Ha'aretz

The Foreign Ministry advised the defense establishment yesterday to wait until the Libyan aid ship reportedly headed for Gaza approaches or enters the coastal strip's territorial waters before making any attempt to stop it. The ministry made the recommendation to avoid the risk of breaking international law.

5. Libyan ship continues to el-Arish - Jerusalem Post

The IDF on Wednesday confirmed that a Libyan aid ship, the Amalthea, had solved its reported engine problem and was continuing towards Egypt's el-Arish port. According to the Arabic newspaper Asharq Alawsat, the diversion of the Libyan ship was brought about after negotiations which were held between Israeli authorities and the aid ship organizers.

- Oh God, You reign in heaven and on earth and over the seas and over the people of the land. God's will prospers in His hand. Thank You, Lord, for directing the Libyans to abandon the course and they have agreed to sail to an Egyptian port. Lead them all the way to that port and away from Israel. This is their blessing. We praise God that you have sent an angel to guide this ship out of the territorial waters around Gaza. We shout to God with the voice of triumph for the Most High God reigns over the affairs of Israel and nations. In Jesus Name.

- "For I will be to Israel says Jehovah a wall of fire all around her and for glory I will be in her midst." (Zechariah 2:9)

The Daily Jot

The unmitigated disaster of change

Nearly 60% of Americans, 58%, now say they have little or no faith in the man who occupies the Oval Office to make the right decisions for the nation and 54% disapprove of the job he is doing. The Democratic dominated Congress has even less confidence of the American people. This according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll which also indicates that 55% of Americans believe the president is a socialist. According to a CBS News poll, 82% believe the economy is in bad shape and 86% think the president's policies have either hurt or have had no positive effect on their lives, while only 13% believe his policies have helped them.

Meanwhile, record levels of government spending have pushed the country's budget deficit over a trillion dollars with three months still to go in the fiscal year which ends September 30. AP reports many private economists are forecasting that the deficit for the entire budget year will reach $1.3 trillion, the second highest deficit on record, last year's $1.4 trillion being the all time high. The White House is forecasting that the deficit for the 2011 budget year will remain above $1 trillion for a third straight year, projecting an imbalance of $1.27 trillion. And the administration predicts the imbalances over the next decade will total $8.5 trillion. Added to the national debt of over $14 trillion, every man, woman and child's share is over $40,000.

This is reminiscent of the years of President Jimmy Carter, arguably the worst president of our lifetime, until now. Carter's policies resulted in deficits, high interest rates and double digit unemployment in many parts of the nation. Carter also advocated using energy costs to control the people, similarly to what this administration today is attempting with cap and trade. Carter was also an appeaser of terrorists as he welcomed dialogue with Palestinian Liberation Organization chief terrorist Yassir Arafat. Carter was responsible for ushering in the modern era of terrorism by helping the Ayatollah's gain power in Iran through not supporting the Shah.

But Carter, in four disastrous years, did not do as much damage to this country as the current president has in 18 months. This is a socialist takeover of America that is unprecedented. It is an attack on the very moral fiber of America from wealth redistribution to refusing to enforce immigration and election laws. This president has also mandated that America is not fighting a war on terror, nor is it fighting against Islam. The homosexual agenda has advanced unimpeded under this White House, and abortion is aided through the new socialized medicine. Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." Have you had enough change yet?

Ground Zero Mosque Approved

Dishonoring The Victims Of 9/11

If you are looking for an example of the surrender of America's elites in the face of the relentless jihad being fought against the U.S., Israel and Western Civilization, you need look no further than New York City. Unbelievably, local officials recently gave initial approval to plans to build a gigantic mosque and Muslim "cultural center" only yards away from Ground Zero.

The mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, has argued that we must respect religious freedom. But freedom of religion does not confer the right to build a church or mosque anywhere you want. Other considerations and zoning requirements must be considered.

I guarantee you if a Jewish group had proposed building a synagogue or if a Christian group had proposed a mega-church or cathedral in the middle of one of the large Muslim neighborhoods in New York, local officials would have found a way to deny the permits. But when it comes to the demands of Islamists local officials, possibly concerned about their heads, have allowed this plan to go forward.

The project's supporters claim that a mosque rising from the ashes of Ground Zero simply demonstrates America's great tolerance. I believe they are naïve. The mosque will be known as the Cordoba House, and the historical significance of that name cannot be ignored. The Cordoba mosque in Spain was built in the 8th century on the foundation of the church of St. Vincent to signify Islam's conquest of Spain.

Building mosques on the sacred ground of conquered lands is an Islamic tradition - consider the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. A 15-story, $100 million mosque at Ground Zero would send an unmistakable message to the Muslim world that America is weak, decadent and will eventually be claimed for Allah. (Gary Bauer)

Governors Slam Arizona Lawsuit

Obama Administration Upset That Arizona Is Enforcing Border law

The nation's governors gathered this weekend in Boston for the summer meeting of the National Governors Association. The economy dominated the public debate, but according to the New York Times, immigration was the most heated topic during a private meeting between top White House officials and Democrat governors - many of whom were furious over the Obama Administration's lawsuit seeking to strike down Arizona's new anti-illegal immigration law.

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) blasted the lawsuit, saying, "Universally the governors are saying, 'We've got to talk about jobs.' And all of a sudden we have immigration going on. It is such a toxic subject [at] such an important time for Democrats." Bredesen is right - the Arizona lawsuit is "toxic" for Democrats. Polls show a measly 28% of voters support Obama's lawsuit against Arizona.

Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D), who is not seeking reelection, noted, "This is an issue that divides [Democrats] politically, and I'm hopeful that [the administration's] strategy doesn't do that in a way that makes it more difficult for candidates to get elected, particularly in the West."

But while Democrat governors were giving the White House an earful, Attorney General Eric Holder said on a Sunday talk show that the administration may file additional lawsuits against Arizona. If only the administration were this tough on illegal aliens!

The Obama Administration's strategy is clear - it has to crush Arizona, to make an example of it so that no other state is tempted to similarly enforce the law. If Arizona wins, other states will step up and do what Washington won't - enforce the law - and that would be a nightmare for the administration and its left wing, pro-amnesty allies.

And while the Obama Justice Department is throwing the book at Arizona for attempting to enforce the law, sanctuary cities that violate federal immigration law get off scot-free. The rule of law is a sacrosanct principle in America. But from accusing the Cambridge cops of "acting stupidly" to dismissing the case against the New Black Panther Party, from dissing bondholders to suing the state of Arizona, this administration seems to have a problem enforcing the law and supporting those who do. New Moratorium Threatens Jobs

Ignoring back-to-back losses in the federal courts, the Obama Administration issued a new drilling ban on so-called "deep water" drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Far from satisfying the concerns of those opposed to Obama's initial ban, the new ban has already come under fire. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana - a Democrat - blasted the administration's latest action in her testimony yesterday before the commission investigating the disaster. Here is an excerpt of her remarks:

"I am particularly alarmed by the Department of the Interior's continued insistence that allowing deepwater drilling to move forward 'would pose a threat of serious, irreparable, or immediate harm or damage to the marine, coastal, and human environment.' That claim contradicts testimony given by drilling experts and ignores the history of oil and gas operations in the Gulf.

". . . we must put this accident into perspective. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, more than 42,000 wells have been drilled in the Gulf from 1947 to 2009, producing 16.5 billion barrels of oil. It is important to note that in the last 10 years, non-hurricane related spills only totaled about 7,000 barrels. . . .the record is clear that the Deepwater Horizon accident is the exception rather than the rule."

" . . .Gulf Coast businesses and investors still lack the certainty they need to move forward with future plans. Whether you call it a moratorium, a suspension, or a pause, the result will still be a substantial loss of jobs. Even the revised moratorium will force thousands of hard-working Louisianians and others along the Gulf Coast into the unemployment lines."

Sen. Landrieu is right. Some energy industry executives have expressed fears that the new ban may be even more restrictive. As the Wall Street Journal reports today, "a group representing shallow-water drillers said Monday uncertainty about Interior Department drilling policy has frozen activity in their industry, affecting hundreds of rigs." One company executive said a third of their "shallow-water fleet has been idled."

Because the administration is refusing to lift the ban, one drilling company has already begun plans to relocate three deepwater rigs - to Egypt, Brazil and the West African coast. The company's president testified, "My concern is that if we shut down for six months there won't be much of a U.S. industry left." That may be music to the ears of radical environmentalists, but it will only compound the tragedy of the spill for many Gulf Coast families and increase America's dependence on foreign sources of oil. Vote on Elena Kagan Delayed

Senate Judiciary Committee Delays Vote on Elena Kagan Nomination to the Supreme Court For One Week

VOTE NOW SCHEDULED FOR NEXT TUESDAY, JULY 20TH

The Senate Judiciary committee has put off for another week the vote on Elena Kagan to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. This gives us more time and we must not fail. We must keep calling Senators and tell them to stop Kagan. We do not need an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court who believes the free speech is something that can be prohibited simply because the government does not like it. We do not need someone on the Supreme Court who believes free speech can be "redistributed." We do not need someone on the Supreme Court who believes books can be banned just because the government does not like their content.

Call the Republican members of the Judiciary Committee. According to Senate Rules, a nomination for the Supreme Court cannot move to the floor of the Senate without at least one member of the minority party voting for it. If all of the Republicans on the committee vote no, we can stop this nominee.

The Republican members of the Judiciary Committee are:

• Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
• Orin Hatch (R-UT)
• Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
• Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
• Lindsay Graham (R-SC)
• John Cornyn (R-TX)
• Tom Coburn (R-OK)

Graham is the most likely to vote yes. Call them all! You can reach all of their offices by calling the Senate switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and asking for their office. Tell them we do not want someone who supports banning free speech on the Supreme Court.

Ronald Reagan famously said, "freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction." If we put someone on the Supreme Court who does not believe in the freedoms the Constitution guarantees, then we are that much closer to losing the freedoms so many Americans paid such a dear price for us to enjoy. More on Gaza News

The power of the Gaza blockade continues to grow

[We have received this communication from Kathleen Mitchell, President, In the Cleft of the Rock Ministries.]

We rejoice in the Libyan boat being directed to Egypt, but the call has gone from Hamas out to bring more boats with the intention the running the blockade. Meanwhile, Hamas is getting all this free stuff . . . soon it will be glut of supplies . . . which not only gives Hamas more power in Gaza, but also gives them credibility with the West as being the true leaders of the Palestinian people.
This lie of Israel maintaining a, punitive, ILLEGAL, blockade of Gaza against the Palestinians, continues to create greater momentum of hatred against Israel. Read more.

- Father, we do rejoice at the strength of the Israeli naval forces in confronting the ship from Libya yesterday, causing it to eventually stand down and honor Israel's border on the sea. We ask for continued strength for the Israelis and steadfastness, even as their enemies will try this assault again and again and again. We thank You that Your word is the final word; and that You will fight to defend the apple of Your eye. In Yeshua's name, amen.

- "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord" (Psalm 31:24).

The Good News Corner

Missouri Passes Law Restricting "Adult" Oriented Entertainment

"Some lament the spread of adult shops and bars, but argue that curtailing their activities will undermine basic American liberties. But, freedom itself is imperiled when society permits the exploitation of women."

(Jefferson City, Missouri)-Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed long-fought-for legislation last Friday that will restrict strip clubs and other sexually-oriented businesses. The law is the result of a lengthy battle waged by state senator Matt Bartle, who has worked to secure the bill against the inevitable judicial challenge that it violates the U.S. Constitution.

The Missouri Catholic Conference, which had supported the bill, praised its passage.

"Some legislators were trying to essentially shove the bill into the darkness and prevent a vote on the bill. We knew votes were there, so we worked to bring the bill to light for debate, and we succeeded," Kayla Muck, a spokeswoman for the Missouri Catholic Conference, told the National Catholic Register.

The bill requires strip clubs to close at midnight and prohibits any strip clubs opening within 1000 feet of a school, place of worship, day care, public library, public park, or residence. "It used to be, you know, 20 years ago, these businesses congregated in certain places," said Senator Matt Bartle.

Their movement to more public areas, he says, has brought a host of negative effects. "Increase in crime, [and] diminution of property values are two of the biggies that these businesses bring," he said. "And I think a lot of people felt like it just makes our state look tawdry."

The new law also bans total nudity, alcohol, clients younger than 18, and physical contact between clients and employees of such establishments. "Some would say we're making a moral judgment," said Sen. Bartle. Nevertheless, he continued, all "laws make moral determinations. They set parameters up. Our society believes that one person shouldn't be allowed to kill another person. Well, that's a moral judgment." "That's our job-[to] set the bar. And if we set it in a place that is either unconstitutional, then the courts will tell us, or if we set it in a place that the people don't agree with, they'll throw us out."

Gov. Jay Nixon signed the legislation on Friday; it will come into effect August 28, but will face a court challenge alleging that it violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and certain provisions of Missouri's constitution. (LifeSiteNews)

Prayer Point:

Pray that this law will be sustained when challenged in court.
Decree:
