The Daily Brief - Wednesday, September 29, 2010

"Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth." (Rev. 3:10)

The Daily Brief

1. Mojave Desert Cross - Office of Congressman Lewis

H.Res.1378, which condemns the theft of the cross that was serving as a WWI Memorial in the Mojave Desert, passed the House by voice vote today. Congressman Lewis' statement following passage of the resolution is here.

- God, we look up to heaven and thank Almighty God for this great victory, which calls for this cross to be returned to its original place in the Mojave Desert. It honors all WWI veterans for their fight to protect and defend Americans and because of them we have reaped the great benefits of freedom. Bless all who have fought to restore this cross to its rightful place. In Jesus Name.

- "Remove not the ancient landmark, which your fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28)

2. Amendment to Title VI of Civil Rights Act. - Office of Congressman Sherman

Cong. Sherman worked with Sen. Specter to introduce H.R. 6216, which amends Section 601 of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on religion in schools. Cong. Sherman issued a press release which can be found here. One section of the statement to note: "We need to close the loop-hole that allows students to be harassed and threatened because of their religion. The law specifically forbids discrimination on the basis of religion in virtually every other area, including employment and housing, and it's about time it protects our students as well. This legislation will give the Department of Education clear jurisdiction over all incidents involving harassment on the basis of religion and will assure all of our students are equally protected."

- Father God, we pray Your will be done regarding the passage of this important bill that forbids discrimination on the basis of religion. Let there be religious freedom in our schools and protection for the students. God, bind all aggressive spirits that would use religion as a tool for militancy. In Jesus Name.

- "O bless our God, you people; and make a voice of His praise to be heard: which holds our soul in life, and suffers not our feet to be moved." (Psalm 66:8-9)

4. "So Help Me God" - Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Yesterday, Michael Newdow filed a petition for writ of certiorari, asking the Supreme Court to hear Newdow v. Roberts, in which he challenges the inclusion of the words "so help me God' in presidential inaugurations. The case was originally filed in December 2008 to prevent addition of the phrase "so help me God" to the presidential oath and also to prevent the inclusion of prayers in the invocation and benediction of Obama's inauguration, as well as the 2013 and 2017 ceremonies. The district court held that the plaintiffs lacked standing to pursue such cases, and this decision was later affirmed by a three-judge panel in May of 2010.

- God, we call for holy power from heaven to protect the inclusion of "so help me God" and prayers to continue to stand status quo in the presidential inaugurations. Remove the adversarial power of men and render it useless over this issue. In Jesus Name.

- "God rules by His power forever; His eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves." (Psalm 66:7)

5. Plenty of Unfinished Business Awaits Congress in Lame Duck Session - Fox News

Democrats are hoping to squeeze debate on numerous bills into their lame duck session after the Nov. 2 midterm elections, even though the elections could shift the balance of power to Republicans once the next Congress convenes.

But it won't be easy for the Democrats to advance their agenda as time runs out, given the slow deliberations of the Senate and the possibility that Republicans will immediately gain more seats in that chamber if they win special elections in West Virginia, Delaware and Illinois.

- Lord, we ask victory for those candidates who stand for a moral America, and follow Your laws and precepts. Give the voters wisdom and discernment in the upcoming elections.

- When one rules over men righteously, ruling in the fear of God,4) He dawns on them like the morning light when the sun rises on a cloudless morning, when the tender grass springs out of the earth through clear shining after rain. (11 Samuel 23:3,4)

6. Inhofe Says EPA's New Boiler Rule Could Kill Nearly 800,000 Manufacturing Jobs - Fox News

The top Republican on a Senate environmental panel released a scathing report Tuesday that he contends shows that the Environmental Protection Agency's new proposed rule on cleaning up boilers nationwide could devastate America's manufacturing base and imperil hundreds of thousands of jobs without providing any real public health or environmental benefits.

- Lord, let wisdom be released to the leadership of our nation and its industrial community to allow both good stewardship of the environment and healthy growth.

- "Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part You shall make me know wisdom." (Psalm 51:6)

7. Ruling allows stem cell research to continue during appeal - CNN

An appeals court has permanently lifted an injunction imposed by a federal judge, thereby allowing federally funded embryonic stem-cell research to continue while the Obama administration appeals the judge's original ruling against use of public funds in such research.

- Pray for a quick hearing before the Supreme Court, and for a ruling that will "permanently" remove public funds from embryonic stem cell research.

- "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness: according to the multitude of Your tender mercies blot out my transgressions." (Psalm 51:1)

8. 'Mumbai-Style' Terror Attack in Europe Foiled - Fox News

A commando-style terror plot that allegedly called for simultaneous attacks in multiple European cities has been disrupted, a senior U.S. intelligence official told Fox News late Tuesday, after the CIA launched a barrage of drone strikes in Pakistan to help thwart the plot.

The plan allegedly included attacks on hotels frequented by Western tourists in London, as well as cities in France and Germany, and was in an "advanced but not imminent stage," Sky News reported. The plotters were purportedly of Pakistani or Algerian origin and have been trained in Pakistan's tribal areas.

- Lord, we praise You for thwarting yet another terrorist attack! We ask that You continue to protect both America and our allies against those who would destroy us.

- "Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity." (Psalm 64:2)

The Daily Jot

The prophetic consequences of false religion and religious adultery

Ever since an August poll saying that 18 percent of Americans believe the man who occupies the Oval Office is a Muslim, the president has been touting his religion. That same poll indicated that only 34% believed that he is a Christian. A McClatchy article rightly points out that until that poll, he rarely attended church, rarely spoke about faith, and after the poll, he gathered up his family and visited a church for the first time in five months. McClatchy reports that White House aides say there is no deliberate strategy being employed to counter the impression that the president is a Muslim, but observers maintain that something is afoot.

As a former political consultant, what is afoot is the pending doom of November 2--the elections. And despite all the attempts to favor Islam by this White House, the harsh reality is sinking in that America's national identity is still Christian. In a June 2007 speech, the senator said, "Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers." As president, he repeated the theme during a June 4, 2009 news conference in Turkey, saying, "One of the great strengths of the United States is ...we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation."

Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." This is such an obvious example of pandering. The polls indicate Americans will no longer accept that their president favors Islam and rejects Christian principles. So like any shrewd politician, the president sees the handwriting on the wall and begins a campaign to convince all the sheep that he is really a man of God. Jesus also said in Matthew 7:21, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven." In verse 23, He continues, "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Those who profess Christianity in name, yet do not do the will of the Father have their own reward. Stealing money, coveting, spilling innocent blood, denying God in the public square, promoting ungodly acts--while many of these people, like the president, may not be directly committing the iniquity, they are administering policies that allow, foster, implement iniquity. And if they are in a position of leadership, whether over a nation or a church, there are consequences for all who they oversee. When you hear the president consistently and intentionally omitting the words "endowed by our Creator" in conjunction with quoting the Declaration of Independence on inalienable rights, is it no coincidence that terror threats increase?

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
