The Daily Brief

1. US church to go ahead with Sept. 11 Quran burning - AOL News

A Christian minister said Tuesday that he will go ahead with plans to burn copies of the Quran to protest the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks despite warnings from the top U.S. general in Afghanistan and the White House that doing so would endanger U.S. troops. Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center said he understands the government's concerns, but plans to go forward with the burning this Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the attacks.

Father, move mightily by Your Holy Spirit to bring this entire issue under the total will of God. Break the powers of darkness by the blood of Jesus and forestall the enemy from having his will. Bring peace out of all this. In Jesus Name.

- "Touching the Almighty, we cannot find Him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: He will not afflict." (Job 37:23)

2. Runaway Muslim teen gets green card - UPI

COLUMBUS, Ohio- A lawyer for a runaway Christian convert from Ohio who was also an illegal immigrant says the 18-year-old woman has gained permanent residency in the United States.

Kort Gatterdam a lawyer for Rifqa Bary, said Tuesday the news means Bary can now start applying for a driver's license, Medicaid coverage and college scholarships.

- Father, we praise and thank You for the wonderful answer to prayer regarding this precious woman's life. She is free by the grace of God. May she be blessed as she settles into her new life in the United States. In Jesus Name.

- "For You have made her most blessed forever: You have made her exceeding glad with Your countenance." (Psalm 21:6)

[Editorial comment: We regret the very slanted bias in this report by UPI, and we stand united with Rifqa in her brave fight to be able to live without fear as a new believer in Christ. Thank you.]

3. 'More than half think Barack Obama is doing a bad job on the economy' - Telegraph.Co.UK

Some 57 per cent of Americans disapprove of Mr Obama's overall handling of the economy, while his job approval rating is also at a low, with 52 per cent saying he is not doing well. However there is some hope for the Democrats as only 32 per cent think Republican economic plans would work, although voters would favour a Republican candidate over a Democrat by 53 per cent to 40 per cent, according to the poll by ABC and The Washington Post.

- God, it is You that will prevail over the upcoming elections. You are in total control. We give You all the glory for routing out the enemy and the wickedness that would destroy our country and we cry out to our God to save America, both spiritually and nationally. Take the blinders off the eyes of the voting public that they see with keen clarity of vision. May all lies be brought out in the open. Bind all deception under the blood of Jesus and defeat every unworthy candidate by the Word of God. In Jesus Name.

- "He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich." (Proverbs 10:4)

Long Island Police: The Right to Bear Arms Is Not a Right of Self Defense

The Second Amendment to the US Constitution says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Apparently, Americans have the right to bear arms due to recent Supreme Court decisions. The authority to use them in defense of your life, liberty or property, however, is yet another matter. Ask George Grier who lives in Uniondale on Long Island, New York. Grier was being threatened at his house initially by five gang members and then a larger group. Grier felt his life was in danger after a gang member threatened: "I'm gonna kill your family and your babies." He fired warning shots and was arrested.

According to CBS News, Grier has no prior criminal record and he legally owned the AK-47 assault rifle he used to warn the intruders. But he was arrested and charged with felony reckless endangerment. According to the authorities, physical force can only be used to deter physical force. Since no one pulled out a gun, Grier acted illegally by firing warning shots into his lawn. In addition, the police use ShotSpotter technology, which pinpoints within 35 feet where a gun has been fired. This immediately attracts the attention of the police. So here is a case where a man appears to be defending himself after a threat of death to his family and the law favors the intruders.

CBS quoted Grier saying, "I went around and went into the house, ran upstairs and told my wife to call the police. I get the gun and I go outside and I come into the doorway and now, by this time, they are in the driveway, back here near the house. I tell them, you know, 'Can you please leave?'" Grier told CBS one of the gang members challenged him. "He starts threatening my family, my life. 'Oh you're dead. I'm gonna kill your family and your babies. You're dead.' So when he says that, 20 others guys come rushing around the corner. And so I fired four warning shots into the grass."

Neither the CBS report, nor other stories indicated whether the trespassers were arrested.

Grier's sister Caprice Rines told FOX News that Grier is the grandson of a local minister and is a church deacon who lives with his wife and two young daughters. She said, "This is blowing our minds, that he's being arrested for this. You're talking about a family that are believers, and we believe we have the right to bear arms." Indeed, even Jesus Christ advised his disciples to carry arms, in fact, the most used assault weapon of his time. In Luke 22:36, Jesus said, "But now, he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip; and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." Constitutional law is derived from the Bible. And the concept of self defense is a Biblical concept. Grier should go free.

The "Hate-filled" U.S.A.?

Is a frenzy of anti-Muslim bigotry and hatred gripping America? You would think so judging by the fevered reaction to a few isolated but highly publicized incidents.

In recent weeks a drunk stabbed a Muslim cab driver in New York. There was arson at a construction site in Tennessee where a mosque is planned. And a minister of a church in Florida with 50 members has threatened to burn some Korans. The pastor was roundly condemned today by a coalition of Christian, Jewish and Muslim groups. All of this took place after the American public reacted very negatively to the proposal to build a mosque at Ground Zero in New York.

Reaction to these events has been swift. The Florida pastor has been denounced by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and General David Petraeus. Muslim leaders are insisting that Attorney General Eric Holder speak out against the incidents and prosecute the people involved under federal hate crime laws. It would have been gratifying to see a similar outpouring of concern about hate when unarmed Christian medical workers were brutally murdered a few weeks ago in Afghanistan by the Taliban, which claimed (falsely) that the workers were promoting Christianity.

A spokesman for Muslim Advocates, sort of an Islamic ACLU, said strong action is needed to counter the "sense of fear and anxiety, (among U.S. Muslims) even more than after 9/11." I can assure Muslim advocates that they weren't the only folks feeling anxiety after 9/11.

For the record, the New York drunk and the Tennessee arsonist should be prosecuted to the full extent of our laws. The Florida pastor needs a lecture on why book burning is offensive and unlikely to win hearts and minds. It is worth pointing out, however, that burning a Koran or a Bible is legal, and the Supreme Court has ruled that burning the American flag is legal too. But in many Islamic countries, there are no Bibles to burn because they are banned, and burning a Koran would earn you a death sentence.

The "frenzy" of anti-Muslim hysteria that Big Media and Muslim "victim" groups claim is descending upon America is simply a lie.

Muslims in the U.S. are not oppressed. There are hundreds of mosques being built all over the country. Has anyone checked how many of those mosques are teaching the Saudi Wahhabi brand of Islam? Their religious liberty is not in jeopardy in America, although sadly the religious liberty of non-Muslims is non-existent in most majority Muslim countries around the world.

Our children are not being taught to hate Muslims. In fact, in too many U.S. textbooks the bloody history of Islamic expansion over the centuries is being white-washed. Muslims are not being attacked on the streets of America's cities. In fact, hate crimes against Muslims have declined since 9/11, while attacks on Jews in America and across Europe are increasing.

In short, I just don't buy the narrative of victimhood being used to describe the life of American Muslims. In fact, our elites are so anxious to prove they aren't anti-Muslim that people looked the other way rather than challenge the radical Islamist Major Nidal Hasan who walked into Fort Hood and killed 13 soldiers.

A Muslim is much more in danger in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere where mosques are being blown up by other Muslims. I assume that is why so many Muslims are still trying to immigrate here - to the "hate-filled" U.S.A.

Finally, a tip of the hat to the Christian leaders speaking out against the Koran burning. But we will know progress is being made when we see Muslim leaders in the U.S. and worldwide condemn with the same passion not the burning of the books but the burning, bombing and beheading of actual Christians, Jews and other "infidels."

Until then I don't need religious liberty lectures from CAIR, the Muslim Brotherhood, the ACLU, Mayor Bloomberg, Hillary Clinton, Attorney General Holder or Barack Obama - none of whom have shown much interest in religious liberty until now. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; 9/8/10)

US taxpayers funding mosques

Lee DeCovnick
American Thinker
August 25, 2010

My American Thinker blog of August 8th asked how extensively American taxpayers are funding mosque construction around the globe, as revealed by Newsweek columnist Fareed Zakaria. Some disturbing answers have now come from Caroline May's well researched article in the The Daily Caller.
May writes,

"Just a cursory search of the term 'mosque' on the State Department's list of 'projects' reveals 26 examples of federal funds going to fund construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of various mosques abroad. The benefiting countries include Bulgaria, Pakistan, Mali, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, the Maldives, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Serbia and Montenegro.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has also spent millions reconstructing and financing multiple mosques in Cairo and Cyprus, as well as providing computers for imams in Tajikistan and Mali."

This aberrant spending policy can be best construed as dhimmitude. Bat Ye'or, the brilliant Egyptian born writer defines dihmmitude.

" . . . it represents a behavior dictated by fear (terrorism), pacifism when aggressed, rather than resistance, servility because of cowardice and vulnerability. The origin of this concept is to be found in the condition of the Infidel people who submit to the Islamic rule without fighting in order to avoid the onslaught of jihad. By their peaceful surrender to the Islamic army, they obtained the security for their life, belongings and religion, but they had to accept a condition of inferiority, spoliation and humiliation."

Doesn't this description eerily dovetail with the Obama's Administration conduct toward the Islamic world?

The chattering political elites, efficiently herded by the Soros/ Obama media complex, have deliberately roiled Main Street America with their confabulations about the incredulous Ground Zero Mosque and Disneyland's banning of the hijab. All this has been done to convince us that America is a racist and Islamaphobic nation. Just check out the Time's lead story this week. The media spin du jour has become easily predictable; we now deal with Pravda on the Potomac, this Administration's odious and vile attempts to channel our honest passions and thoughts.

So why has all things Islam become topic number one of the MSM this week? Primarily as a light hearted distraction from massive and systemic failures of this Administration; the $14 trillion dollar deficits, chronic long term unemployment, higher taxes, death panels, oil drilling moratoriums, suicidal defense cuts, and bloated government bureaucracies. Also there is an election in 70 days.
[Editorial comment: The election is now only 55 days away!]

The Good News Corner

Louisiana Abortion Clinic is Shutdown under New Law

The Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport, La., which closed late Friday, due to health and safety concerns, was the first abortion clinic to shut down under the state's new law governing such facilities. Gov. Bobby Jindal signed the bill into law earlier this year.

Gene Mills, executive director for Louisiana Family Forum Action, said that prior to the new law, the "hands" of the State Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) were tied. "DHH had very little governing authority to revoke a license or to shut down a clinic," Mills "They could issue citations, but they had no real police authority."

"These are some of the most basic medical practices they were excluding," said Anthony Keck, interim secretary for the Louisiana DHH. "They were out of compliance with several major licensing standards." Among the infractions: not administering physical exams before an abortion and not monitoring patients' vital signs under anesthesia.

Mills had only praise for state Rep. Fred Mills and Keck, who were very instrumental in getting the abortion clinic shut down. "Well done, Tony Keck and Representative Fred Mills! Your actions have preserved both life and health in Louisiana," he said. "It is refreshing to encounter Louisiana public officials who take their duty to protect the innocent and the public seriously." (Citizenlink)

GREETINGS FOR ROSH HASHANA

This New Year's greeting was published today by Malcolm Hedding, Executive Director, International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.

Dr. Hedding has echoed our own thoughts on this very special day for the people of Israel and Jewish citizens across the Globe.

Shana Tova to all!
Dear Friends,

On the eve of Rosh Hashana, I wish to greet you all with a sincere wish that the New Year will be one filled with G-d's sweetness, good health and blessings.

We should not forget that every year has its many challenges and unexpected trials. These, too, are a part of the goodness of G-d if we face them with faith and trust in Him. Job found this out and has taught us that the highway to G-d's blessings is the road of patience.

So it will also be with Israel. Israel today is a most blessed nation and the evidence of G-d's unfailing love is everywhere to be seen. There are great challenges in the land, as there always have been, but the blowing of the trumpet this Rosh Hashana will call and awaken us to trust, prayer and patience, for "out of Zion will radiate the perfection of beauty". So said the ancient Psalmist of Israel and thus, morning by morning throughout the year, we will experience G-d's mercies and love.

Remembering Our Jewish Friends on Rosh Hashana

"Let the Weight of Your Glory Fall" by Paul Wilbur

Tonight, as Jews worldwide enter into the ten Days of Awe, beginning with Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) and ending in Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), we seek the Lord in repentance with them.

And Lord, as we search our hearts in repentance of sin, please . . . let Your GLORY fall. Amen.
