The Daily Brief - Friday, February 25, 2011

"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him." (John 6:27)

The Daily Brief

1. Maryland Senate OKs bill on gay marriage - Washington Times

The Maryland Senate on Thursday evening approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in the state, sending the issue to the House of Delegates where a similar measure is scheduled for debate beginning Friday.

- Father, we ask forgiveness for this atrocity. We ask forgiveness for the church that is standing by motionless as legislation that opposes your laws has been accepted in this land. We pray that you would raise up an army of intercessors and activists to overturn these atrocities in MD and other States. We also ask that you would change the hearts of many in the House of Delegates, and those who were in favor of this Bill would vote against it. We also pray that those trapped in the bondage of homosexuality would be set free.

- You shall not lie with a male as with a woman it is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22) If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (II Chron. 7:14)

2. Wis. Assembly passes bill taking away union rights - Washington Examiner

Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly took the first significant action on their plan to strip collective bargaining rights from most public workers, abruptly passing the measure early Friday morning before sleep-deprived Democrats realized what was happening.

- Father, we thank you for the courage of the Governor and legislators in Wisconsin for holding their ground. We ask that you would protect them and give them wisdom. We pray that the people affected would not resort to fear, violence, or revenge, and that you would open their eyes to the truth that their livelihood comes from You, and not from man.

- You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day (Deuteronomy 8:18)

3. FBI Arrests a Suspected Bomb Plotter - Wall Street Journal

Federal agents charged a Saudi student in Texas with attempting to construct improvised explosives and compiling a list of possible targets, including the home of former President George W. Bush.

- Father, we thank you for saving President Bush and the nation from our enemies and those who seek to destroy us. We pray that your enemies will be scattered and confusion will reign in their ranks. We ask that every plot of the enemy will be exposed.

- "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies." (Psalm 23:5 KJV)

4. Libyan Protesters Launch New Push to Oust Qaddafi - Fox News

Libya's rebel movement launched a new push against Muammar al-Qaddafi on Friday, calling for mass demonstrations as it seeks to solidify its gains and loosen the longtime leader's grip on the capital.

- Father, we pray that that an end would be brought to this wicked and evil regime, and we pray for protection for the protestors. We ask that those loyal to Qaddafi who are willing to kill their own people will be convicted of wrong-doing and flee from evil doing. We pray that you would sweep across the country with Your Spirit, and bring conviction and salvation to millions of souls.

- Break the arm of the wicked and evil doer; call his wickedness to account till you find none - Do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more. (Psalm 10:15,18 ESV)

5. EU edges closer to sanctions against Libya - Deutsche Welle

Germany is at the forefront of a push for the European Union to impose strict sanctions on Libya. Obama has said "all options" are open to help stop the bloodshed in Libya.

- Father, we ask that you would give wisdom to members of the EU and the USA, and that you would block the ungodly agendas from infiltrating these protests. We pray that what Satan has meant for evil in this country and this part of the world, You would turn to good.

- As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good " (Genesis 50:20)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

The LORD has prepared His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom rules over all. ( Psalm 103:19)

1. Quartet tries new Israeli-Palestinian peace bid - Ynet News

Envoys from the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia are hoping to hold separate meetings with Israeli and Palestinian negotiators to try to revive peace talks, the UN's Mideast coordinator said Thursday.

2. Israel could still strike Iran, despite Mideast unrest - Ha'aretz

The uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya have focused Israeli attention on the west, and overshadowed the disturbing news from the east: Iran has succeeded in repairing its uranium-enrichment plant at Natanz, whose functioning had been disrupted by the Stuxnet computer worm. The 1,000 centrifuges that were destroyed - about one-tenth of those in the installation - have been replaced by new ones. The Iranians are maintaining their rate of production and continuing to stockpile enriched uranium.

The Daily Jot

The White House connection to Qaddafi

The White House put insurmountable pressure on long time US ally Hosni Mubarak of Egypt to step down and pave the way for a more radical regime backed by the terrorist sponsoring Muslim Brotherhood. It was a peaceful transfer of power. In Libya, however, Islamic terrorist dictator Muammar Qaddafi is killing people by the hundreds who are demonstrating against his regime. The White House has stood by silently, offering only a statement from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the world should speak as one voice in dealing with the Libyan uprising. The question is evident: Why would the American president depose an ally, but do nothing to remove a radical dictator with a long history of terrorism?

There is a connection between Obama and Qaddafi that goes far back to at least when Obama was attending the church of the radical Jeremiah Wright. Wright was involved with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. On March 19th, 2007, Ryan Lizza, Senior Editor at The New Republic wrote a biographical piece on Wright explicitly stating that Wright is a former Moslem. Wright accompanied Farrakhan on a 1996 visit to Libya's terrorist dictator Qaddafi. Whether the president knew Qaddafi during these years is not public knowledge, but there is a connection that appears to run so deep that Qaddafi himself has praised the president on several occasions.

In October 2008, Qaddafi said in a speech, "There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan African origins, a Moslem, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama. All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man. . .We still hope that this black man will take pride in his African and Islamic identity, and in his faith." In April 2010, Qaddafi spoke about the president to a crowd in Sirt, Libya saying, "He is someone I consider a friend. He knows he is a son of Africa. Regardless of his African belonging, he is of Arab Sudanese descent, or of Moslem descent."

On July 9, 2009 at the G-8 summit FOX News published a picture of the president shaking hands with Qaddafi. The story said the "diplomatic gesture was his latest effort to reach out to controversial world leaders in an attempt to improve the United States' standing around the world." Now there are rumors in Libya that al Qaeda has a government in waiting for when Qaddafi is toppled. Interesting that in both Egypt and in Libya, more radical regimes wait in the wings and the American president is in the thick of these events. 2 John 7 says, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." Our nation is in great peril.

The March for the Cure??

Planned Parenthood's Mammosham: The March for the Cure??

Before you sign up to race for the cure, maybe it's best to get up to speed on what, exactly, you're running for. A few years ago, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which raises millions of dollars a year for breast cancer research, admitted that it gives a portion of its proceeds to Planned Parenthood. When people grilled the Foundation on their partnership, Komen tried to tamp down the controversy by saying that Planned Parenthood "provides vital services." Considering the latest news, they might want to change that statement to "refers for vital services."

Apparently, Planned Parenthood doesn't need our tax dollars for free mammograms--because they don't offer them! Pro-lifer Jill Stanek did some digging, and it turns out that one of the organization's biggest arguments for government funding is completely invalid. "If [the pro-life provisions in this budget] ever becomes law," Cecile Richards has warned, "millions of women in this country are going to lose their health care access, not to abortion services, to basic family planning--you know, mammograms, cancer screenings, cervical cancer."

That's interesting, Stanek says, because not one Planned Parenthood in America performs mammograms. Even the organization's website tells women to "ask your local health care provider, health department, or staff at your local Planned Parenthood center about where you can get a mammogram in your area." Obviously, Richards and friends will stoop to any level of deceit to keep the government checks rolling in. Meanwhile, what business does Susan G. Komen have funneling money to an organization that a) does nothing to prevent breast cancer, and b) lies that it does? There are plenty of respectable health clinics out there (1,200, in fact) that would host the screenings without promoting abortion--a procedure that may have more to do with causing breast cancer than curing it.

Obama v. DOMA

Obama Launches Assault On Marriage

Obama's decision yesterday that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional amounts to a declaration of war against traditional marriage in America. Liberals in Congress are now planning a legislative assault to repeal DOMA. Rep. Jerold Nadler (D-NY) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have told the Huffington Post that they will introduce legislation in the House and Senate very soon to fully repeal DOMA. My friends, we will defeat them!

Let me be clear about the implications of such action: DOMA did not ban same-sex "marriage" in America. It gave states the right to define marriage for themselves. To date, the people of 31 states have voted to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Repealing DOMA would effectively invalidate each of those 31 votes. And it would allow liberal judges to force every state, including yours, to recognize same-sex "marriages" performed in left-wing states like Massachusetts.

Once again, the intolerance of the Left is on full display. Liberals think they know better than thousands of years of recorded history. They think they know better than the teachings of all major faiths. They think common sense and faith amounts to bigotry.

They think they know better than the people of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin!

And given that Obama feels that the law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman is discriminatory and unconstitutional, I assume that he now supports polygamy too. If we cannot say that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, on what basis can we discriminate against the love of a man and his three wives? Or a woman and her four wives? Is that Obama's idea of "change we can believe in"? (Gary Bauer)

THE CALL AT 3:00 AM

During the 2008 primary, Hillary Clinton ran a TV commercial asking this question: "Who do you want to answer the phone at 3:00AM?"

Real calls like the one suggested in the ad concerning our national security continue to come to the White House, and Obama continues to put the calls on hold. The crisis in Libya is a prime example. Despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of Americans work in the half dozen Moslem nations facing revolts and violence, Obama moved no significant military assets into the Mediterranean.

As a result, Americans fleeing Libya are renting cars, crowding onto fishing boats and crossing deserts on foot to escape. Significant caches of weapons are being taken from military supplies in Libya. Even military aircraft are unaccounted for and Obama seems frozen. His most powerful response was to announce he was sending Hillary Clinton to Geneva next week to "seek a solution." (Religious Freedom Coalition)

Understanding Libya . . .

Libya consists of three major tribal areas, and as a single nation it is dysfunctional. The nation was created by Europeans relying on natural boundaries rather than ethnic areas, as was done with most of Africa during colonization. As a result many civil wars have been waged and millions killed trying to maintain borders that make no real sense. I seriously doubt that Obama understands this as he is a Utopianist who believes government can become ever larger, have no borders and furnish all needs to all people. The reality is different and the stage for years of civil war has been set. In the case of Libya, eventually more than one nation will emerge. (Religious Freedom Coalition)

Jihad in Texas

Another Case of Sudden Jihad Syndrome

Last night, the FBI arrested Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, a 20 year-old student attending college near Lubbock, Texas. He was reportedly attempting to make a chemical bomb and was just one purchase away from succeeding. Aldawsari is a Saudi citizen who came to the U.S. in 2008 on a student visa. A notebook found in his apartment led authorities to believe that one possible target was the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush.

Now let's not jump to conclusions simply from his name, age or nationality. That would be profiling. The notebook also contained the following entry: "After mastering the English language, learning how to build explosives and continuous planning to target the infidel Americans, it is time for Jihad."
Well, you can't read too much into "infidel" and "jihad." After all, Obama's top officials have told us that jihad has all sorts of positive meanings. But this email Aldawsari wrote is a bit disturbing, "One operation in the land of the infidels is equal to 10 against occupying forces in the land of the Moslems." Maybe this had nothing to do with Islam at all and was just another unfortunate case of "Sudden Jihad Syndrome."

Of course, I'm being sarcastic. From other entries in Aldawsari's notebook, security officials believe he had been plotting his jihad for years, and came to the U.S. on a student visa with the sole purpose of killing Americans. How many more "students" like Aldawsari are out there? (Gary Bauer)

THE END OF THE RULE OF LAW

In the last week or so a huge crack emerged in the rule of law in the United States, and it seems no one recognizes this could signal the end of the nation as we know it. In two states, Wisconsin and Indiana, Democrats fled their states so that laws could not be passed by the newly elected Republican majorities. Democrats announced they may do the same thing in other states to block state assemblies with Republican majorities from passing legislation. The Democrats are saying: "We lost the election, so we are going to take actions to stop the democratic process. When we get back in the majority we want democracy to return." It doesn't work that way. Once the democratic process has stopped, it has stopped.

Meanwhile, Obama has decided that he, not the courts and not the Congress, can single handedly determine that a law (the Defense of Marriage Act) is unconstitutional. If it works for him, it works for the next President. In 2012 a Republican could be elected and announce that he has decided Obama Care is unconstitutional. This is how nations slide into dictatorships, and the Democrats and Obama are setting the stage for the end of our Republic. (Religious Freedom Coalition)
