The Daily Brief - Thursday, March 10, 2011

"He shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!' " (Zechariah 4:7)

The Daily Brief

1. Wis. GOP bypasses Dems, cuts collective bargaining - AP

Dozens of protesters camped outside the Wisconsin state Assembly chamber on Thursday in anticipation of a final vote on explosive anti-union rights legislation that whisked through the Senate after Republicans outmaneuvered their missing Democratic counterparts and brought a three-week stalemate to its unexpected end.

- Lord, thank You for this first victory! As legislators across America begin the process of cutting back to be fiscally responsible, we pray for the real people involved in the decisions. We ask that rational thoughts reign over emotional reactions, and that You will help those who are afraid of personal losses learn how to trust in You for provision.

- "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped" (Psalm 28:7a)

2. Wisconsin Republicans Claim Obama Advisers Behind Recall Campaign - Fox News

Wisconsin Republicans are accusing President Obama's political advisers of backing efforts to recall eight GOP senators for their role in trying to curb union rights and benefits.

- Lord, as politicians are fond of accusations, we ask that truth be the standard not only in Wisconsin, but across America. If there are any hidden agendas and plans by any political faction, we pray for You to reveal it swiftly and deal with it according to Your justice.

- "Love - rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth." (1 Corinthians 13:6)

3. Witnesses at King Hearing Say America 'Failing' to Confront Radical Islam - Fox News

Witnesses at a high-profile congressional hearing on Islamic radicalization said Thursday that America is "failing" to confront the threat posed by homegrown extremism, as lawmakers traded accusations over whether the inquiry unfairly singled out Muslims.

- Father, we pray for wisdom regarding these hearings, that they not become what the McCarthy hearings became in our past. We ask that truth be revealed for the protection of our nation, and that You will direct the outcome of these hearings so that no innocent person will be harmed, but the roots of demonic forces will be exposed.

- "My mouth shall speak of wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be understanding." (Psalm 49:3)

4. Clinton to Hold Talks With Libyan Rebel Leaders - Fox News

Secretary of State plans to meet with opposition leaders next week when she travels to the Middle East.

- Lord, grant Mrs. Clinton discernment and wisdom in dealing with the rebel faction. Protect her from manipulation by demonic forces. Let her see and act against any falsehoods and hidden agendas, but stand firm with truth and justice.

- "Give therefore Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil." (1 Kings 3:9)

5. UN report says world's food stocks at risk as bee colonies dying out - The Australian

A mixture of chemicals found in modern pesticides may be killing bee colonies around the world, according to a UN report.

- Father, we plead for Your mercy over the bee population of the earth. We bind sickness and disease, parasites and death from them, and ask that Your restoration come to the bees which provide pollination for world crops.

- "He causes food to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth." (Psalm 104:14)

6. Anti-government protesters may have been hit with nerve gas, doctors say - Australian

Doctors from the scene of violent anti-government protests in Yemen's capital said that what was thought to be tear gas fired by government forces on demonstrators may have been nerve gas, which is forbidden under international law.

- Lord, we bind the murdering spirit that roams all through the Middle East, seeking to control and kill the people. We apply the Cross of Jesus Christ to the people of the region, and pray for a move of Your Holy Spirit to judge the hearts and separate out the wicked.

- "Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yes, let them be put to shame and perish: that men may know that You whose name alone is Jehovah, are the Most High over all the earth." (Psalm 83: 17-18)

7. Urgent: Christian Kidnapped in Mexico - CHPP

Pastor Lalo Garcia is the head of a group of pastors who are doing everything possible to change the city of Juarez. They are sponsoring our crusades and helping to preach the gospel in the city as well as massive evangelical outreaches they organize for the pastors in Juarez who want to participate.

Yesterday we received word that PASTOR GARCIA'S DAUGHTER had been KIDNAPPED. He has spoken to his daughter by phone and she is all right at this time. However, this does not lessen the danger. In Mexico even if families pay the ransom they hardly ever see their loved ones again. It is a miracle when one who has been kidnapped is returned.

- Father, we pray for this precious family who has stood firm for Your Name in the midst of great danger. We ask for the safe return of this Christian lady. We offer heartfelt prayers for Pastor Garcia whose son was killed in the violence in Juarez just about a year ago. Pastor Garcia is a key leader in the fight to transform Juarez. We plead Your Blood over his daughter, and ask you to release Your heavenly Host to grant the miracle of her safe return.

- "Deliver the poor and needy, rid them out of the hand of the wicked." (Psalm 82: 4)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

Hodu l'Adonai ki tov, ki leolam chasdo. (Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.) (Psalm 118:1)

1. Egypt: The new southern threat - Ynet News

For almost 30 years, the Israeli government did not ask the IDF what it possesses vis-a-vis the Egyptian front, what it needs, how much time it will take to prepare, and how much it will cost. For some 30 years, the political leadership did not demand to see plans with timetables and priorities in case of a strategic revolution on the Egyptian front. For 30 years, the politicians -- and also the army -- stuck their heads in the sand, knowingly and deliberately degenerating our capabilities vis-a-vis the Egyptians.

2. IDF is preparing for mass civil uprising in West Bank - Ha'aretz

The Central Command and the Judea and Samaria Division of the Israel Defense Forces have been closely monitoring the recent events in Arab states and updating their operational plans for dealing with a potential popular, nonviolent uprising.

3. PM rebuffs faction's calls to build new settlements - Jerusalem Post

Governmental efforts in Judea and Samaria must go toward maintaining settlement building currently taking place rather than new tenders, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told Likud parliamentarians during Monday's faction meeting.

The Daily Jot

Our responsibility in these prophetic times

In recent weeks there has been a deluge of prophetically significant events. And they are taking a toll on readers around the world, especially in America. It appears that many would rather not even read or hear about them than to have to worry about them, or to have knowledge of them. Knowledge or awareness means there is a sense of responsibility. Others think that reporting news events from a Biblical perspective is taking political sides. Sometimes it appears that way, especially when one political body far outstrips another in going against God's word. But by and large, there is enough blame to go around for all elected leadership and those in other countries who are elected or not.

Hitting the "delete" button or the "unsubscribe" button does not make the problem go away, neither the responsibility for the problem. We all share in this responsibility, if not responsible members of civil society, certainly as members of the Kingdom of Christ. And that is where the rub seems to be. People would rather assign the argument and the responsibility for the reason of the argument to some nebulous political or social beast that is far bigger than them to slay. That way they can ask "What can I do about it, I'm just one person?" This somehow absolves them in their own mind of having any responsibility for the matter at hand.

Knowing that your family, community, state, or nation is rapidly embracing the world rather than the "Word," bears scriptural responsibility. Willingly ignoring the very things the scriptures command us to stand against makes us culpable. Romans 12:21 confirms this saying, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." And Ephesians 6:13 says, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." We are in a battle. Ignoring it, or getting angry at the people pointing it out, does not make it go away or absolve the responsibility to your God. Saying, "I don't know what to do" won't help. Seek the Holy Spirit, and you will know.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Fighting Forced Unionism

As the battle between Big Labor and Governor Scott Walker rages on in Wisconsin, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is sponsoring the National Right to Work Act to protect American workers from forced unionism. DeMint's bill would guarantee that no worker would be required to join a union in order to get or keep a job. Seven Senate conservatives have signed on as co-sponsors of DeMint's bill: Coburn (R-OK), Hatch (R-UT), Lee (R-UT), Paul (R-KY), Risch (R-ID), Toomey (R-PA) and Vitter (R-LA).

Contrary to what Obama and other left-wing politicians will claim, the bill is not an "assault on unions," but a serious effort to protect American workers. As Sen. DeMint noted in a press release, "One recent study found that . . . from 1977 to 2007 right to work states experienced a 23 percent faster rise in per capita income than states with forced unionization."

DeMint pointed to Michigan as an example, saying, "Forced-unionism helped lead to GM and Chrysler's near bankruptcy and their requests for government bailouts . . . When American businesses suffer because of these anti-worker laws, jobs and investment are driven overseas." (Gary Bauer)

House to Defend DOMA

House Will Ensure DOMA Constitutionality is Determined by the Court NOT OBAMA

Speaker John Boehner has directed the House General Counsel to defend the Defense of Marriage Act.

Washington (Mar 9)

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA):

"Today, after consultation with the Bipartisan Leadership Advisory Group, the House General Counsel has been directed to initiate a legal defense of this law. This action by the House will ensure that this law's constitutionality is decided by the courts, rather than by the President unilaterally."

NOTE: The Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group is a five-member panel consisting of the Speaker of the House, Majority Leader, Majority Whip, Minority Leader, and Minority Whip. Under House rules, the advisory group has the authority to instruct the non-partisan office of the House General Counsel to take legal action on behalf of the House of Representatives.

Prosecuting Obscenity

Lawmakers Call on Attorney General to Prosecute Obscenity Cases

Dozens of U.S. lawmakers are calling on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to enforce federal laws against illegal pornography. State and national pro-family groups -- including CitizenLink -- are standing behind them and have scheduled a National Call Day on Thursday for concerned citizens to encourage the rest of Congress to get on board.

Federal laws prohibit distribution of obscene pornography on the Internet, on cable and satellite TV, through the mail and in retail outlets. Yet, there has not been a single new federal obscenity indictment since President Obama took office.

"Now is the time to make our voices heard," said Patrick Trueman, former Justice Department prosecutor and current CEO of Morality in Media. "We've all experienced and observed how pornography harms. We've still got the law on our side, so let's speak up!"

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Reps. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., and Randy Forbes, R-Va., are circulating letters to their colleagues that call on Holder to take action; they have set March 18 as the deadline for signatures.

The letters read, in part: "We believe it is imperative that the Department, with cooperation by the FBI, investigate and prosecute all major producers and distributors of adult obscenity. We need your leadership." (CitizenLink)

Praying About "Days of Rage"

Prayerful Response to "Days of Rage"

"Days of Rage" are being led by radical groups all over the world (be they Islamist, Communist, Anarchist, Right-wing settlers, or Unions in the US). Recently, there was a "Day of Rage" in Israel, led by right-wing settlers. Below is a prayerful, spirit led response to this activity from "Intercessors for Israel"". Where protests, demonstrations and days of rage seem to be popping up everywhere, there is much we can glean from this spirit-led prayer that we can take to heart and apply in our own region of the world. Here is a warning against participating in such activities, with a thoughtful, scriptural and spirit-led prayer response to such "Days of Rage" (from Intercessors for Israel, March 4, 2011):

"Help us all to see our need to be united within when there is so much enmity from without. May the settlers be reminded of the words of the rabbis - that the nation was destroyed because of "sinat am". May they repent of hatred and sin.

- It is a mistake to imitate the rage of the Arab nations. May the settlers find the Godly way to protest the destruction of their homes.

- Teach us how to disagree without causing division.

- We need to distinguish between right principle and a wrong heart. This should be a lesson for all of us. [Source: Hebrew Nation News Alerts]
