The Daily Brief - Thursday, June 16, 2011

"Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." (John 18:37)

The Daily Brief

1. Democratic Congressman Weiner Resigns - CNSNews.com; Fox News

Following his 'sexting' scandal, Rep. Anthony Weiner announced he would resign from office. In a news conference marked by heckling, Rep. Anthony Weiner said he would resign from Congress effective immediately, bowing to days of public pressure from members of his own party.

Weiner's resignation letter hadn't yet arrived in the House on Thursday afternoon, which means he's still officially a member. But once it is submitted, the letter could be read on the House floor. The resignation will initiate a special election in New York -- a scenario that would favor Democrats. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that Weiner "made the right judgment in resigning." Read more.

- Lord, we thank You that Mr. Weiner has agreed to step down, but we pray for his soul and deliverance from the sin that has beset him. We ask forgiveness and cleansing for the proliferation of these sins throughout our society and our government.

- "We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly - Nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake, that He might make His mighty power to be known." (Psalm 106: 6,8)

2. Iran successfully launches second satellite into orbit - Ha'aretz

Iran has successfully launched a second domestically-built satellite into orbit, Iran's Arabic language al-Alam television reported on Wednesday.

- Father, while there are non-aggressive uses for satellites, it is also a fact that they can be used to target weapons. We ask that these satellites be ineffective against your people.

- "Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down, says the Lord." (Obadiah 1:4)

3. a) China, Russia press Ahmadinejad at rare meeting - AFP

The leaders of China and Russia on Wednesday pressed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to show more cooperation to resolve the Iranian nuclear standoff, in a rare meeting at a regional security summit.

b) Iran's president calls for post-Soviet security alliance to unite in alliance against West - Canadian Press

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Wednesday for a security alliance of several former Soviet nations and China to form a united front against the West.

- Lord, we pray that all plans of our enemies fall to the ground. That no alliances would be cohesive, and that agreements will not be reached.

- "When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; but the righteous shall see their fall." (Proverbs 29:16)

4. Taliban commander who defected considering return to insurgency - UK Telegraph

A senior Taliban commander who defected to the Afghan government during last year's offensive in Kandahar has said his decision was a mistake and warned he is thinking about a return to the insurgency.

- Unless a person is actually set free by God from a demonic power, they are likely to return to its influence. Pray that this man will be brought face up to the Living God for true deliverance.

- "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finding none, he says, I will return to my house from when I came out - then he goes and takes with him 7 other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first." (Luke 11: 24, 26)

5. Al-Qaeda appoints new Osama bin Laden: Ayman al-Zawahri chosen to lead terrorist organisation - UK Telegraph

Al-Qaeda has chosen Ayman al-Zawahri as its new leader following Osama bin Laden's death in a US commando raid last month, according to a statement apparently issued by the movement's general command.

- Father, since this new leader of Al-Qaeda is not particularly well-liked in the ranks, we ask that inner division would destroy their ability to mount attacks in the world.

- "Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul; let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt." (Psalm 70:2)

6. Lawmakers sue to end U.S. role in Libya fight - Washington Times

A bipartisan group of House lawmakers went to court Wednesday to try to stop President Obama's troop deployment to Libya, saying it violates the law, but the White House submitted a report to Congress arguing that it is adhering to the War Powers Resolution because it is not actually engaged in "hostilities."

- Lord as the "hotspots" grow in number and severity around the world, our nation must listen to the Voice of the Lord to determine when and where to deploy. We pray to remove ourselves from any venue that is not in Your will, and ask that You find a way to cause our President to hear Your Voice over that of his own.

- "And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken. The heart of the rash shall understand knowledge" (Isaiah 32: 3,4a)

7. Obama campaign donors 'rewarded with government jobs' - UK Telegraph

Nearly 80 per cent of Obama's top campaign donors have been rewarded with senior United States government jobs, according to a new study. [Pathetic!]

- Pray that this kind of information will be shown in the mainstream US media, so that the American public will see the truth.

- "Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from My sight. Stop doing evil." (Isaiah 1:16)

8. GOP hails debate, still waits for Perry - The Washington Times

A day after the first big debate of their presidential nominating campaign, Republicans sounded more enthusiastic about their field tbhan before, but some say the big winner was one potential candidate who was not on the stage: Rick Perry.

The three-term Texas governor, who has dropped hints that he may rethink his decision not to run for president, hails from a state that produced more jobs during the recession than any other. After Monday night's debate, Mr. Perry has become the great hope of a conservative, mostly underground movement within the party to stop the clear front-runner, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

- Lord, as the 2012 race continues to vet candidates, we pray for Your choice. We ask for unity among Christians and Republicans for whoever comes out as the top runner. Father, we ask forgiveness and repent for the division of the 2008 election. We failed to stand as a unit because of our opinions and our personal feelings, and many of our people refused to vote, which allowed the election of someone opposed to Your values. We release our thoughts and judgments into Your hand for this election, and ask for You to intervene on our behalf.

- "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against itself falls." (Luke 11:17)

Obama's Libyan War Report to Congress Misrepresents U.S. Support of Terrorists

The president's 38 page report to Congress justifying the war in Libya raises questions over whether he has broken several laws and is in violation of the US Constitution. One is Article 1, Section 8 that empowers only Congress to declare war. Another is whether the president is materially supporting terrorists and terrorist groups in prosecuting his policy of nation building across the Islamic world. Still another is whether it is Constitutional for a president to use, as he put it, "all of the diplomatic, economic and strategic tools at our disposal . . . to promote reform across the region, and to support transitions to democracy." There are no enumerated powers in the Constitution that allow nation building or imperialism.

In his report to Congress released June 15, the president continues to make a humanitarian case for the war in Libya. Notwithstanding, the War Powers Act requires an act of Congress for a president to continue "any use of United States Armed Forces" that required such a report. Congress has not so acted. The President is acting in defiance of War Powers, and Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. He claims he has kept Congress informed on the Libyan war, and therefore, is well within his authority to continue it without Congressional approval. War Powers and the Constitution, however, are not about informing, but rather authority. Congress will eventually determine where the president stands. . .

The Administration's public relations campaign to date has been to dress up these rebels as trustworthy professionals, doctors, attorneys, teachers, students, etc., when the evidence suggests that they are Islamists and supporters of terrorism posing as a legitimate alternative to the Gaddafi dictatorship. The "suits" that have been paraded around to all the NATO coalition members downplay al Qaeda involvement. . .

A similar portrait has been painted of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is a founder and supporter of terrorist organizations worldwide. It has been listed as a terrorist supporting group by the federal government. In the Texas Holyland Foundation trial, Federal prosecutors entered as evidence a Muslim Brotherhood plan to overthrow the United States by conducting a "Civilization Jihad." This plan never has been denounced or retracted, but the president has adopted the Muslim Brotherhood as his preferred organization to bring about democracy in Islamic nations. The Muslim Brotherhood is dedicated to the implementation of global Sharia Law and states that it will work with any Islamic group to attain that goal.
The evidence is overwhelming that the US president is downplaying or even misrepresenting his use of American military and diplomatic support of Libyan rebels who are terrorists, supporters of terrorists, and radical Islamists.

Al-Qaeda Call for Attacks on Houses of Worship

Al Qaeda-Linked Site Posts 'Hit List' of U.S. Targets, Prompting Feds to Send Alert

An ABC News report contains a newly released video by Al-Qaeda with specific calls for attacks on sacred places. The video encourages western Muslims to conduct individual violent jihad against sacred places and features previously released statements by Osama bin Ladin as well as Al-Qaeda media spokesman Adam Gadahn.

Gadahn encourages western Muslims to conduct attacks in their home countries as an obligation and falsely depicts the west as being at war with Islam. The video also provides guidance on how to conduct violent jihad, to operate in secrecy, to attack public figures, and to launch cyber attacks - without any specific names or targets.

Gadahn is quoted in the video as saying: "Muslims in the West have to remember that they are perfectly placed to play an important and decisive part in the jihad against the Zionists and crusaders, and to do major damage to the enemies of Islam, waging war on their religion, sacred places, and things, and brethren," says Gadahn. "This is a golden opportunity and a blessing."
While the Department of Homeland Security has not offered an official comment on this report, the video or its content, Christian Emergency Network's own independent Christian security experts recommend churches and religious leaders listen to the video and make a determination for themselves as to the need for increased readiness.

Responding to the Al-Qaeda video, CEN President and Founder Mary Marr says, "The video is yet another reminder that it is important to be a Ready Church one that is aware of potential threats, prepared to meet them, and ready to give an answer for the Hope we have in Jesus Christ, at any moment."

CEN recommends churches and ministries have in place: 1) a Ministry Continuity Plan including safety and security measures, 2) a trained church emergency team, and 3) a plan to conduct regular emergency drills with their congregation. CEN offers training to assist a church or ministry to be ready to respond spiritually, emotionally, mentally as well as physically in a God-honoring manner to emergencies both large and small. North Carolina Defunds Planned Parenthood

SUMMARY: The House and Senate voted to override the governor's veto.

On Wednesday, North Carolina became the third state to pull Planned Parenthood's funding.
The House and the Senate overrode Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue's veto of the two-year budget. It will strip the nation's largest abortion business of taxpayer funding beginning July 1.

Last month, Indiana passed a law to stop all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. And Kansas' 2012 budget blocks federal family planning money from flowing to the abortion business.
"Planned Parenthood is the No. 1 provider of abortion around the country," said Bill Brooks, president and executive director of the North Carolina Family Policy Council.

"When you give money to someone who's providing abortion, a lot of their funding goes in the schools and into various activities in which we think that they are encouraging sex rather than promoting abstinence."

Also Wednesday, the North Carolina Senate sent another piece of pro-life legislation to the governor. The Woman's Right to Know Act would require women to wait 24 hours before an abortion, and provide them with an ultrasound image and information. (Citizen Link)

"Through the Fire"

"He never promised that the cross would not get heavy,
and the hill would not be hard to climb;
He never offered victories without fighting,
but He said help will always come in time.

Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision,
and the adversary says "give in,"
just hold on; our Lord will show up;
and He will take you through the fire, again.
[May you be blessed, strengthened and encouraged by this powerful song.]
