The Daily Brief - Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. (Psalm 5:1-3, NKJV)

The Daily Brief

1. 'Iran sends submarines for reconnaissance in Red Sea' - Jerusalem Post

Iran has sent submarines to the Red Sea, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Tuesday, citing an unidentified source, in a move that could anger Israel.

- God, we come upon the evil strong man over Iran. In Christ, we are fully armed and fully determined to pray until this evil is overcome, and Iran be saved by the blood of Jesus. Lord, we impound all advocates of darkness by the Word of God and stand battle-ready in God's armor and sword, to defend the Cross and pray salvation of the souls in Iran. In Jesus Name.

- "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against all the wiles and cunning devices of the devil." (Ephesians 6:10-11)

2. Libyan TV shows Gaddafi meeting tribal chiefs Tuesday - Jerusalem Post

Libyan state television showed images of what it said was a meeting between Muammar Gaddafi and tribal leaders on Tuesday at an unidentified location.

- God, You created Gaddafi to be a man of God and spend eternity with You in heaven. We therefore stand on Your promises that You are a Father to this fatherless man. You have watched him destroy his own life by loving sin. Reach out to him, and call him to fall in submission to Your all-encompassing love, and find Jesus as Savior of his soul. In Jesus Name.

- God says, "Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations." (Jeremiah 1:5)

3. Egypt accepts Muslim Brotherhood as legal party - Ynet News

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood's political party was declared legal by Cairo Tuesday, the state news agency MENA said.

- Father, now is when Your hand will be outstretched over the Muslim Brotherhood for they have walked with pride in their hearts, with mean spirits driving them to thirst for blood. Their suffocation and malignity will be broken off the nation of Egypt. Break the wicked forces that propel this group, that the blood of Jesus triumph over them in their entirety, and they go down in utter defeat. In Jesus Name.

- "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)

4. Iran says no offer can stop it enriching uranium - Reuters

No offer from world powers can persuade Iran to stop enriching uranium, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday, dismissing the key demand of countries that fear Tehran is developing nuclear weapons.

- God, this president is hell-bent for self-destruction. It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness. Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord, and he shall not be unpunished. He is rocking over a precipice between heaven and hell and will fall therein unless he turns to God in repentance. We pray for his soul to be saved. In Jesus Name.

- "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6)

5. Chronic unemployment worse than Great Depression - CBS News

The chronically unemployed face the hardest road back to recovery, and that while the jobs picture may be improving statistically on a national level, it is not for them.

- Father, we ask that You reach out to these seemingly helpless, hopeless, jobless people, and speak to their hearts to turn their lives over to the Lord and see what marvelous works You will perform for them. Save their souls by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions." (Proverbs 8:12)

6. Government tax revenue growing in 2011 - Washington Times

The job market still may be struggling, but wages and salaries are improving, and that helped shrink the federal deficit to $59 billion for May, according to the Congressional Budget Office -- the lowest deficit in five years for that month.

- Father, You are God over all the finances, and we praise your name that the federal deficit has decreased. We speak praise to the Lord over the job market, wages, salaries, federal deficit, that all financial matters be brought out of the red into the black. In Jesus Name.

- "It is God who girds us with strength, and makes our way perfect." (Psalm 18:32)

7. Toddler Dead in Va. E. Coli Outbreak, 10 Sick in Tennessee - Fox News

Latest U.S. E. Coli Cases Unrelated to Outbreak in Europe

The Virginia 2-year-old who died from an E. coli bacterial infection that has also sickened her brother, as well as at least 10 other E. coli infections in Tennessee since June 1, are unrelated to the infections in Germany, said health officials, according to the Johnson City Press. Dr. David Kirschke, medical director of the Northeast Regional Health Office in Johnson City, Tenn., said the office is "taking it very seriously and encouraging people to follow precautions."

- Father, we claim this powerful scripture in the Word of God and take hold of the hand of the ultimate Healer, Jesus the Christ, for it is by the stripes that He bore on His back that we are healed. It is the blood of Jesus that heals. No illness can remain and no illness can come in where the blood of Jesus has been applied. Holy Spirit draw the hearts to pray and seek help from the Lord. He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The Lord is your refuge and your strong place. May the rooms where these patients are afflicted be filled with the presence of the Lord, and all the diseases be bound under the blood of Jesus and dried up. In Jesus Name.

- You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6) nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. (Psalm 91:5,6)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. (Psalm 33:8-12 NKJV)

When the wicked bear rule, the people mourn

USA Today has published an alarming story that debt/unfunded obligations of the Federal Government have reached $527,000 per household. In other words, you and I are more than half a million dollars in debt that the government put us into. How are we going to get out? The total figure of unfunded obligations, according to USA Today is $61.6 trillion. The reporter interviewed an accountant who said the federal debt--at a mere $14 trillion-plus--does not take into account what the government owes to veterans, seniors and retired employees. Its kind of a bait and switch technique that is being used to not give the public a clear picture of the dire straights in which our leadership has placed this nation.

There also seems to be no governor on the spending. The president has announced billions more in aid to Middle East countries that are overthrowing their governments. He also pledged some unknown amount of taxpayer money to support a $100 billion European Union bailout of Greece. There also is no small amount of politics being played with taxpayer money. The cronies in labor unions, mortgage banking, the auto industry, and Wall Street have captured most of the trillions of economic bailout money in America--that is, what is actually accounted for. Meanwhile, Obama says he will defund low-income health care for Indiana residents if they defund the Planned Parenthood abortion mill.

The framers of the US Constitution wisely established a set of checks and balances that one section of the government would not be more powerful than another. And all three branches were to be accountable to the people. Hence we have an extensive elective process that proceeds from the very local level through states all the way to the federal government. There is, however, one small problem: When the people do not exercise their civic responsibility and leave it to the politicians they elect. The system of accountability breaks down when elected officials serve the best interests of the political system rather than be forced to serve those who elect them. And that is why we are in trouble as a nation.

John Adams said, "Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." William Paterson, signer of the Constitution and a Supreme Court judge appointed by George Washington said, "Religion and morality are necessary to good government, good order, and good laws, for when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice." Indeed, Proverbs 29:2 is wisdom: "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn." As President Reagan said, "If not us, who? If not now, when?"

On Jobs Obama Says: "We Don't Know"

During an interview yesterday with a Cleveland, Ohio, TV station, Obama was asked explain last week's disturbing jobs report. Obama said, "We don't know yet what happened in terms of this particular blip . . ." (Note to our friends at the RNC -- Obama just gave you a great ad: "We don't know . . .")

And the people who might know are bailing out. The latest socialist to jump ship is Austan Goolsbee, chairman of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers. With Goolsbee's departure, Obama will have lost four top economic advisors in less than three years, following Peter Orzag, Christina Romer and Larry Summers. Moreover, as the New York Times notes, Goolsbee is "the only economist left on [Obama's] core economic team."

The Hill also reported late yesterday afternoon that Obama has "stopped receiving the daily economic briefing that he requested when he took office." With the unemployment rate above 9%, President Obama should consider putting his golf clubs down for a while to make some time for those economic briefings. (Gary Bauer)

Signals From The Court?

The federal government has largely ignored the problems of illegal immigration. But legal precedents declaring that only the federal government can enforce immigration laws have stymied the efforts of states and localities such as Arizona and Hazelton, Pennsylvania, to deal with the fallout. That may be changing.

Two weeks ago, in a 5-to-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the state of Arizona could require businesses to use an electronic system to verify the legal status of new employees. Yesterday, the court vacated a previous ruling against Hazelton, Pennsylvania, and ordered a new hearing based on its opinion in the Arizona case.

It is always risky to try to predict the outcome of future cases, but these rulings suggest that there now may be a majority on the high court that is sympathetic to state and local efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

By the way, that five-vote majority in the Arizona case does not include either of Obama's Supreme Court appointees. Justice Sotomayor was one of the three dissenting justices, and Justice Kagan recused herself given the administration's formal opposition to the Arizona law and her previous role as Obama's top government lawyer.

If Obama is reelected, he will have the opportunity to pack the court with more left-wing activists, radically changing its balance of power. Beyond redefining marriage and promoting abortion-on-demand, an emboldened liberal majority would not hesitate to eviscerate cherished values, including free speech, religious liberty and Second Amendment rights. Update: Legal Challenge to National Day of Prayer Decision

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has filed a petition asking the Seventh Circuit to grant a rehearing of its National Day of Prayer challenge. In April, the Seventh Circuit dismissed FFRF's challenge to the law that instructs the President to declare a National Day of Prayer each year, saying FFRF lacked standing. The court held that the Plaintiffs are not injured by the law, since they are not required to act in response to Obama's proclamation.

Prayer Point:

Stand in agreement that the decision already rendered by the Seventh Circuit will hold, and that this challenge will be dismissed.

Verse:

"Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

The Good News Corner:

Studying the Bible in the Public Schools!

The Council has developed the curriculum text for the teachers and has recently developed an electronic version, which contains the curriculum plus videos, movies, and slides. This is being greatly welcomed by school districts.

The NCBCPS curriculum has been implemented in 2,094 public high schools to date in 38 states, and over 400,000 students have already taken this course nationwide.
