The Daily Brief - Monday, July 25, 2011

"Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)

The Daily Brief

1. Two sides craft debt plans before deadline - Washington Times

With no debt deal done and both sides racing an Aug. 2 deadline, Democrats and Republicans on Sunday readied separate backup plans to try to raise the government's borrowing limit and cut spending.

- Father, give our leaders an anointed plan before this deadline. May they seek your face and be in one accord. May they put aside all bitterness and quarreling.

- But select capable men from all the people - men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain (Exodus 18:21)

2. Boehner Weighs Balanced-Budget Amendment - CNBC

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner told fellow Republicans on Sunday that he is considering a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution as part of a bill that would raise the debt ceiling, a source who heard his message said.

- Father, we pray for our leaders that you give them ability to solve these financial issues. Fill them with creative solutions.

- And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not, I will lead them in paths that they have not known, I will make darkness into light before them and make uneven places into a plain. These things I have determined to do for them; and I will not leave them forsaken. (Isaiah 42:16)

3. Futures slump as debt talks result in no deal - Reuters

U.S. stock index futures fell sharply on Sunday as failure so far by the government to strike a deal on the debt ceiling made the prospect of default -- once considered an impossible outcome -- more likely.

- Father, we put our trust in You for our future. We reject all fear concerning this report. Amen!

- Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

4. Return of Mass Layoffs a Grim Sign for U.S. Workers - Yahoo Finance

Putting pressure on an already lousy job market, the mass layoff is making a comeback. In the past week, Cisco, Lockheed Martin and Borders announced a combined 23,000 in job cuts.

- Father, we pray Your creative solutions will come forth, whether from the private sector or the public sector. There is an answer to this problem. May we seek your face for the answer.

- For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. (Jeremiah 29:11)

5. Vows Make New York Largest Gay-Marriage State - Fox News

Buoyant gay couples cheered by supporters began marrying Sunday on the landmark day that New York became the sixth and largest U.S. state to recognize same-sex weddings and provided fresh energy to the national gay rights movement.

- Father, forgive our country for this sin. We intercede for our country and repent of our sins. We turn from our wicked ways and seek Your face.

- Now the men of Sodom were wicked and exceedingly great sinners against the Lord. Abraham said, Suppose only ten righteous people shall be found there. And the Lord said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. (Genesis 13:13; 18:32)

6. Greece rating cut by Moody's amid default warning - BBC

Credit rating agency Moody's has cut Greece's rating, warning that a planned debt swap would constitute a default.

- Father, protect Greece from a default. We pray protection over the world economy, as it has an effect on our own economy.

- By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges and governors of the earth. I love those who love me, and those who seek me early and diligently shall find me. (Proverbs 8: 16-17)

7. Chinese Regime Developed Space-Age Weapons Against Taiwan, US - Epoch Times

The Chinese military years ago mulled the use of electromagnetic weapons against the United States and Taiwan, and could have built on that technology to have in its arsenal a working radiation weapon today, according to U.S. National Security Archive documents declassified and released on Thursday.

- Father, we ask you to thwart the plans for evil use of these weapons. We pray confusion upon those who would want to do harm to the U.S. or Israel. We pray for these weapons to fail, and we pray for the peace and safety of Taiwan, one of our allies. We ask for a hedge of protection around Taiwan, and that many in Taiwan, and China as well, will put their faith in you, and you will deliver them.

- "Behold, they may gather together and stir up strife, but it is not from Me. Whoever stirs up strife against you shall fall and surrender to you." (Isaiah 54:15)

8. Info at Bin Laden Compound Shows Al-Qaida Mulled 9/11/11 Train Attack - NBC News; New York

Information uncovered at Osama bin Laden's compound after his death shows al-Qaida considered attacking trains on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, officials said.

An advisory has been sent to law enforcement officials asking them to be vigilant about train security based on the new details. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are telling officials to watch for clips or spikes missing from train tracks, debris placed on tracks and frequent trespassing on railroad property.

Federal officials are also warning law enforcement to watch out for thefts of items like maintenance tools and identification badges, and for people without qualifications attempting to gain railroad employment.

"We continue to operate under the premise that terrorists not yet identified by the intelligence community and law enforcement may be operating in the United States and could advance and execute attacks without warning," an updated advisory said Friday. Read more.

- Lift up all law enforcement personnel in New York City and its surrounding suburbs, asking our Lord to grace each one with an unusual level of alertness to catch anything "out of the ordinary" in this transit system. Offer thanks that we do serve a God who hears and who answers our prayers.

- "For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light." (Mark 4:22)

Note: this is a nationwide alert, so please adjust your intercession accordingly.

7. Palestinians to push ahead in UN Statehood bid - ICEJ News

IDF Prepares for violence ahead of September

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas declared on Thursday that one of the main reasons he is seeking membership in the United Nations is so the PA can negotiate with Israel as an equal partner, adding his assurances that once that event occurred the PA would immediately re-enter negotiations with Israel and that the Palestinians "believe in freedom and the right to self-determination, and want to achieve a state through negotiations."

As the September showdown at the UN draws closer, the IDF is preparing for the possibility of large scale civil unrest among the Palestinians and possibly Israeli Arabs. The Military Police and other related units have bought large amounts of non-lethal, crowd control equipment and protective body armor. New training routines have also been introduced.

"The possibility of large demonstrations after September is at the forefront of the military's activities these days," one officer said this week. "The entire military is focused on it." Read more.

Focus on Norway:

Government Building Bombed; 8 Killed
Youth Camp Massacre: 68 Slain

1. Gunman's background puzzles police in Norway - AP

The 32-year-old suspected of gunning down scores of young people at a summer camp and setting off a bomb in downtown Oslo that killed at least seven is a mystery to investigators: a right-winger with anti-Muslim views but no known links to hardcore extremists. "He just came out of nowhere," a police official told The Associated Press.

- In the aftermath of this weekend's horrible news out of Norway, please intercede that "cool heads will prevail" in the assessment of the character of this assassin. Pray that his true identity be made known -- not that he reflects genuine Christian beliefs. The spirit of satan destroys life. The Spirit of Christ gives life and protects life so much that it sacrifices itself to preserve life.

- "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:10,11)

2. Police Lower Death Toll in Shooting Massacre - AP

Police have lowered the death toll in Norway's island shooting spree to 68, saying the overwhelming task of responding to the tragedy created confusion. That brings the new toll to 76 people; it is still one of the worst modern mass murders in peacetime. Read more:

- Tonight, Norway is a nation in pain. Lift up all who have been directly affected by these attacks -- especially the mothers and fathers who have lost children in the slayings. May our Lord bring them His comfort, and may they draw close to Him to find help in time of need. May many come to know our Savior in this time of disaster. Amen.

- "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

3. Norway youths discussed Palestine prior to attack - Ynet News

The teenagers who took part in Norway's ruling party youth camp in the island of Utoya met with Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere and demanded he recognize Palestine on Wednesday, two days before the deadly terror attack which left many of them dead.

- The Lord is earnestly watching over "the apple of His eye" in love. As lessons are learned from this catastrophe, may we not overlook the urgent need to bless Israel in all our ways, and not to curse her. Amen.

- "Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." (Psalm 121:4)

4. Norwegian Suspect Wanted European Anti-Muslim Crusade - Fox News

The man blamed for killing at least 93 people during terrorist attacks on Norway's government headquarters and an island retreat for young people wanted to trigger an anti-Muslim revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday.

- Once again, pray against backlash that may hit the many fine organizations that ARE warning the public about the ways of Islam, and the bondage that comes with liviing under Sharia law. May the nation of Norway, in particular, not lash out unnecessarily against those who are knowledgeable about this issue. Pray for grace, strength, balance and wisdom as this news is "digested."

- "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand." (Phillippians 4:5)

5. Norway Terror Attacker Warns of Two More Cells - AP

Breivik alluded to two other "cells" of his network -- which he imagines as a new Knights Templar, the medieval cabal of crusaders who protected Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land. At one point, his manifesto briefly referred to an intention to contact two other cells, but no details were given. European security officials said they were aware of increased Internet chatter from individuals claiming they belonged to the Knights Templar group and were investigating claims that Breivik, and other far-right individuals, attended a London meeting of the group in 2002. Read more.

- The good news is that Norwegian police now know that two more terror cells may be out there; the other news is that they need to be found, and quickly. Pray, pray, pray!

- "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light." (Mark 4:22)

6. Norwegian Authorities Deny Request for Open Hearing - AP

Breivik made clear in an Internet manifesto that he planned to turn his court appearance into theater, preparing a speech for his appearance in court even before launching the attacks, then requesting an open hearing in which he would wear a uniform. Both of those requests were denied. Read more.

- Offer praise to the Lord for the wisdom demonstrated by these judges in not allowing the gunman to "grandstand" in front of the public. May justice be served!

- "I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away." (Isaiah 28:17 NLT)

The Daily Jot

The spirit behind mass killings

The world is trying to make sense of the bombing and subsequent youth camp shooting rampage in Norway that left over 90 people dead. Initially several news organizations, including the New York Times, reported that a little known terrorist group claimed credit for the killings. The NYT reported that Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami claimed responsibility, but later retracted. Later in the day as events unraveled, that story was buried and a new story emerged: That "right-wing extremist" Anders Behring Breivik acted alone in an insane attempt to create a "crusade" against Islam. Reports now profile Breivik as an admirer of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and reportedly lists his religion as "Christian" on Facebook.

It is difficult to explain why these things happen. It is not so difficult to explain why these horrible events quickly become political with everyone trying to blame their favorite political enemy. There is one thing for certain, there are evil people in the world wishing to do evil to others. Some act alone. Others act in small groups. But there is one that does so worldwide with clarity of position and is unapologetic of its actions--and that is Islam. From human slavery to drug running to murdering innocent people in the name of their god, Islam is a political system that destroys people. Whether the Norway killer acted alone, or with a small group or was part of a bigger group, he shares the same spirit of destruction.

For years people have looked at conspiracy theories from the American government invoking the 911 terrorist attacks to the various theories behind the Oklahoma City bombings--where like in Norway, innocent children were put to death. Certainly, the left likes to point at people that commit these heinous acts and say they are representative of conservatives or Christians. If they are conservative, they are not typical of political and social conservatives in America. The TEA Party, as some have suggested, did not have anything to do with the Norway massacre. As a follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, I can say with certainty that Christianity did not have anything to do with the killings either.

There is one thing that connects the Oklahoma City bombings with the Norway massacre with the 911 terrorist attacks with the attacks against Israel, and with Islam. Jesus said it in John 10:10-11, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." The spirit of satan destroys life. The Spirit of Christ gives life and protects life so much that it sacrifices itself to preserve life. The politicians and the psychiatrists and the analysts will try for years to figure this out and blame someone or something. They probably won't conclude that its just evil doing evil.

URGENT ALERT!

U.N. to seize Jerusalem from Israel on July 26th. Take Action!

The United Nations Security Council has scheduled July 26th in New York, for open "debate" about whether or not they will seize Israeli land in September, and divide Jerusalem by establishing a Palestinian state, without negotiation or approval from Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he feared a "surprise" move after the Quartet of the United Nations, EU, USA, and Russia met last Monday in DC, to endorse President Obama's plan to enforce 1967 borders, and divide Jerusalem and seize Israeli land to form an independent Palestine, on either July 26th or in Sept. at the U.N.

Haaretz newspaper reported Quartet members "are expected to release a statement endorsing Obama's May 19 speech on the Middle East, which called for . . . the borders of a future state based on pre-1967 lines . . . "

"A source in Jerusalem said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet colleagues have concerns that the Quartet announcement could provide a surprise for Israel similar to Obama's May speech, the contents of which were revised less than 24 hours before it was delivered . . . The U.S. is proposing a Quartet statement that mentions the Obama address in relatively general terms and announces that a Quartet delegation would visit the region for additional talks."

The Jerusalem Post reported Netanyahu said he was ready to restart negotiations "tomorrow morning" but the Palestinians "refuse" to negotiate now. JTA reported this week, "Palestinian negotiators refuse to return to talks unless Israel freezes settlement; Israel will not consider talks with the Palestinians unless the P.A. breaks off its talks with Hamas, and unless the framework of the talks includes recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, an end to refugee claims and a longterm Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley," [without which Israel cannot defend her existence.]

Obama wrote in his book "I will stand with [Muslims] if the political winds shift in an ugly direction," so I picture Obama siding with Palestinian President Abbas above, who said last week, "Obama says he wants to see an independent Palestinian state by September."

Haaretz newspaper reported last Wednesday, "The UN Security Council plans to discuss in July [on the 26th] the possibility of Palestine becoming a United Nations member state, the Security Council president said on Tuesday. The Arab League has said it would request UN membership for a Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital at the UN General Assembly in September."

Only the U.N. Security Council can vote to recognize new nations, and move borders. It is composed of 15 member nations among which only 5 have veto authority: USA, Britain, France, China, and Russia.

The "Quartet meeting [is] a possible indicator on the situation," reported Haaretz. "The Quartet of Middle East peace negotiators . . . [met] amid a U.S. push to revive peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians."

The fact any debate will occur on 26 July confirms a big U.N. vote will occur in September, and if Obama's U.N. delegation fails to veto, Israel will forfeit half its land and Jerusalem will become the Muslim capitol of the new state of Palestine.

Obama has recently signaled that the U.S. may not veto such a land-grab, as Abbas said last week on Lebanese TV, quote: "Obama says he wants to see an independent Palestinian state by September." No wonder Abbas met with PLO leaders and decided to seize the moment, and East Jerusalem with it.

Israel would likely not recognize such a vote, and refuse to forfeit their land. Palestinians will declare independence and start a war in September, with the whole world against Israel. Except us. We must awaken the U.S. Congress to defend Israel now.

PRAYER REQUESTS FROM CHRISTIAN RESPONSE:

--We pray you REJECT Obama's endorsement of a two-state solution that divides the land of Israel, which violates the principle of Joel 3:2 and brings a curse upon America from Almighty God, and

-- We pray you REJECT Obama's endorsement of 1967 borders which force Israel into a suicidal and indefensible military position, and

-- We pray you REJECT any proposal by the United Nations to force Israel to give up any "land for peace" or forfeit control of any part of Jerusalem, God's Holy City, and

-- We pray you help PROTECT Israel's original borders as given by God to Moses and Joshua in the days of the Bible circa 1500 B.C.

-- We will score your vote and help fax it to nearly all pastors in your state before the next election. We pray in the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jesus, Amen.

-- "I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land." (Joel 3:2)

The Good News Corner:

Christian Zionists unite in D.C. to express support for Israel

Over 5000 Christians, mainly Evangelicals, gathered this week at the Convention Center in Washington for the annual conference of the organization CUFI, Christians United For Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Christian Zionist conference via satellite, telling them, "When you support Israel, you don't have to choose between your interests and your values; you get both." The prime minister encouraged the conference attendees to not only think of Israel as an ally of the Unites States, but as indistinguishable from it. "Our enemies think that we are you, and that you are us," added Netanyahu. "And you know something? They are absolutely right."

Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren compared the participants' support of Israel to British military officer Orde Wingate's training of Jewish paramilitary units before the establishment of the State of Israel. "We thank you for carrying out this vision," Oren told the CUFI conference participants.

News commentator Glenn Beck worked the audience into a frenzy, decrying the historical persecution of Jews, insisting that Israel cannot cede control over territories it controls, and calling upon the conference attendees to declare that they, too, are Jewish. "Jews have been chased out of every corner of this planet," said Beck. "Enough is enough." Beck said that new states can be established, but not at the expense of other states, and that Israel is historically the 'Land of the Jews', implying that Israel should not relinquish control over the West Bank in order to create a State of Palestine. Beck repeated a refrain that Netanyahu had introduced earlier, appealing to audience members to self-identify as Israelis and Jews themselves. He exhorted, "When we see Israelis not as part of us, but as us, we can move to the next level as human beings," adding, "Let us declare 'I am a Jew,' they cannot kill all of us".

The conference attendees learned that Pastor John Hagee, the founder of CUFI, would be joining Beck for his planned rally in Jerusalem in August. Hagee told the audience, many of whom were waving both Israeli and American flags, "We gathered here with one message: Israel today, Israel tomorrow, and Israel forever." He added, "President Obama is no friend of Israel". "The truth is not what you think that it is - it's what the Bible says", Hagee proclaimed. "There are two ways to live your life - the Torah way and the wrong way."

"If the US Administration forces Israel to divide Jerusalem - God will turn his back to the United States of America. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is watching America," Hagee continued. "Obama, go tell Russia and the Chinese what to do." "Iran will soon become nuclear. Obama is waiting for Iran to extend a friendly hand, and it's not going to happen," Hagee added. "Mister Ahmadinejad, don't threaten Israel. What you do to the Jewish people, history proves, will be done to you." (Ha'aretz)
