The Daily Brief - Monday, November 14, 2011

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." (Ps. 27:5)

The Daily Brief

1. Canadian PM eyes China after US pipeline delay - Breitbart

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Sunday that he was looking at exporting more oil to China after the United States delayed a decision on a controversial pipeline. President Barack Obama's administration last week put off a decision on Keystone XL project after a major protest campaign by environmentalists, who say the pipeline would be prone to accidents and worsen climate change.

The conservative Canadian leader, taking part in a summit in Hawaii hosted by Obama said the pipeline decision had produced "extremely negative reactions" and that he discussed oil exports with Chinese President Hu Jintao. The State Department delayed a final decision until 2013, after next year's presidential election.

• Father God, we pray that our plan to have this pipeline completed will not be hampered by politics. But we pray if there are any problems, they will be worked out quickly. We also pray that the Chinese and other foreign countries will not be able to access our fuel supplies either here, or off our coastlines. Remove those who are blocking this access.

• Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and look, you have blessed them bountifully!" (Numbers 23: 11)

2. Sen. Lindsey Graham: Military Would Be Last Resort Against Iran Nuclear Threat - Newsmax

Sen. Lindsey Graham is siding with a Republican presidential candidate who's calling for military action if all else fails to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

"If they develop nuclear weapons, the whole region is going to want a nuclear weapon. If you open Pandora's box, if you attack Iran if they get a nuclear weapon, you empty Pandora's box," Graham said. It's important to "neuter this regime" by destroying its military and persuading Iranians to demand a regime change, he said.

• Lord, we pray that our defense budget will not be crippled with all the cutbacks in our government budgets. We need the best equipment for our troops and sufficient money for their needs. We need to be a strong nation. We also pray for supernatural intervention regarding Iran and its nuclear plans.

• The Lord is my Strength and Song, and He has become my Salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father's God, and I will exalt Him. The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name. (Exodus 15:2,3)

3. Hopes fading for the debt supercommittee - Washington Post

Ten days before a Thanksgiving deadline, members of a congressional supercommittee appear increasingly pessimistic about odds of forging a debt-reduction deal. The public debate has grown more divisive since both sides laid out their latest offers last week. Negotiators, already under attack from the left, are facing fresh pressure from the anti-tax right. And charges of betrayal are expected to intensify Monday when the House returns from a week-long break, fueling concerns that a deal could emerge from the supercommittee only to die in the House or the Senate.

Analysts, however, said the United States could risk another downgrade of its credit rating and do further damage to business and consumer confidence if the supercommittee process implodes in a chaotic display of partisan rancor - for example, if a deal is approved by the supercommittee but is killed on the House floor. And analysts are deeply concerned that lawmakers could "de-trigger" the automatic cuts, undoing even the modest steps Congress has so far taken to tame the soaring debt.

• Father God, you are in charge of everything including man's mind and heart. We pray that by some miracle, the subcommittee will come up with a workable plan where there will be no tax increases and no severe cuts to important issues. Help them to discern and agree on cutting out huge amounts of worthless projects.

• When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness, than vast revenues without justice.
A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16: 7, 9)

4. 'Occupy' movement faces challenge from violent fringe - USA TODAY

"Conflict gets people's attention," says Caroline Pincus, a 53-year-old San Franciscan who marched in Occupy Oakland's non-violent "general strike" that briefly closed the nation's fifth-busiest port. "It's put the story on the front page. It's given permission for much more coverage of income disparity." Violence undercuts public sympathy for the protesters' cause, says Terry Madonna, a polling expert at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. In Oakland, a splinter group that included some masked anarchists broke off from the main protest Nov. 2 after a day of peaceful protests. Police made more than 80 arrests. But Occupy Oakland's slow, consensus style of decision-making hampered its ability to promptly and definitively rebut the violent fringe's claim that it was merely protecting protesters from police. Some Occupiers argued or fought with the violent protesters.

• Lord, the longer these protesters remain in their protest, the shorter everyone's patience for it. We pray they will come to the conclusion that it is time to go home. Let those who are violent - either from the group or outside the group, be caught and incarcerated. We do not want people's right to protest infringed upon, but it is time for them to go home.

• Do not fret because of evildoers . . . for there will be no prospect for the evil man; the lamp of the wicked will be put out. My son, fear the Lord . . . do not associate with those given to change; for their calamity will rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin those two can bring? (Proverbs 24: 19, 21)

5. ATF Fast and Furious: New documents show Attorney General Eric Holder was briefed in July 2010 - CBS NEWS

New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress. On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks." Yet internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious.

In Fast and Furious, ATF agents allegedly allowed thousands of weapons to cross the border and fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. Ever since, the Justice Department has publicly tried to distance itself. But the new documents leave no doubt that high level Justice officials knew guns were being "walked."

• Lord, we thank You more truths are coming out about this horrible plan. We pray that the names of all who were involved will be revealed, removed from their places of authority, and punished for all the innocent people who lost their lives because of these decisions. Let the truth come out quickly. Let the remaining guns be safely found and the cartels disbanded forever.

• I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a native green tree. Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found. (Psalms 37: 35,36)

6. Supreme Court to Hear Challenge to Obama Health Care Law - Fox News

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a challenge to President Obama's signature law on health care, it said Monday in an announcement that has nearly as much impact on partisan politics as the final decision has on the law itself.

The challenge in the case, brought by 26 states out of Florida, is based on the constitutionality of the individual mandate in the Patient Accountability and Affordable Care Act, which requires that all Americans purchase health insurance.

The nine-member court will also look at severability, meaning if the mandate falls, could the rest of the law survive since it is primarily built on the revenues collected by forcing people to buy health care.

The court is also folding in an additional case on the tax implications of the law.

The case is one that all sides want heard. But hearing the case this session -- arguments could come in March -- means that a ruling will come in June -- in the heat of the 2012 election cycle.

- Lord, give Your wisdom to the judges as they hear this challenge to the healthcare law. Flood their hearts with understanding and light to know the implications of this law. In Jesus Name.

- For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us. (Isaiah 33:22)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6)

1. PA will resume peace talks if Israel freezes settlement building, Abbas says - Ha'aretz

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told a top U.S. official on Sunday that the Palestinian Authority was willing to cooperate with the Quartet on the Middle East in order to restart peace talks with Israel, but added that Israel had to both freeze all settlement construction and recognize the 1967 borders as the basis for negotiations.

2. PM: Int'l community must stop Iran nuclear program - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the "international community must stop Iran's race for nuclear weapons" as its success may put the whole world at risk.

3. Israel says Iran closer to atom bomb than thought - Reuters

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday the full extent of Iran's nuclear program was not reflected in a recent U.N. report, which said that Tehran appeared to have worked on designing an atomic bomb.

4. 30,000 suicide bombers to infiltrate Israel - Ynet News

In response to reports of a possible Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, Iran is threatening to mount an attack on Israel via the Syrian border. Some 30,000 Syrian and Palestinian men have spent the past three months training to infiltrate Israel in order to carry out suicide missions, the Iranian Fars news agency reported Friday.

Leaping closer to the Damascus prophecy

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that the United Nations report on Iran's nuclear program only documents what can be proven, but in reality the terrorist sponsoring nation is far closer to having a nuclear bomb than the report confirms. Reuters reports that Netanyahu said, "Iran is closer to getting an (atomic) bomb than is thought. Only things that could be proven were written (in the report), but in reality there are many other things that we see." The UN report has went further than any other in the past decade to confirm that Iran is indeed weaponizing its nuclear program. These are facts that the US and Israel have known for years, but have only been revealed by the UN since a change in leadership. "

In 2009, Japan's Yukiya Amano was elected to serve as the head of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency. He replaced Islamist Mohamed El Baradei, who was considered soft on Iran's nuclear development, often emphatically denying that Iran was developing a weapons system, despite intelligence contrary to his position. Amano won the IAEA position over another Islamist, Abdul Samad Minty from South Africa. Minty was positioned to challenge the US and other nuclear powers to disarm. Minty was supported by Arab states. The Jerusalem Post reported in July 2009 that Israel was relieved that Minty did not win the position.

The Post said that Israeli officials thought Minty's relationship with Iran was too cozy. South Africa, where Minty is from, supported Iran because of historical and business relationships, which included Iran providing cheap oil. Under Minty's guidance, South Africa abstained from confirming the 2006 IAEA report on Iran, siding with Islamic nations and Iran by withholding its vote. MSNBC reported in March 2009 that "Support for Amano from the US, Canada, the European Union and others was to an extent less because he was the ideal candidate and more "because of fears that Minty would become a second El Baradei.""

It is no coincidence that the recent report on Iranian nukes by the UN's nuclear watchdog had more of the truth in it than El Baradei would have allowed. But according to the Israeli Prime Minister, it still doesn't disclose all that Israeli intelligence knows. An Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities could have Biblical impact. On one hand, it could devastate Iran's nuclear intentions. On the other hand it could invite counter strikes from Iran or Iran's vassal state, Syria, just North of Israel. A very important end time prophecy is found in Isaiah 17:1, which says, "Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap." Given the state of circumstances, the world is far closer to this prophetic fulfillment than it was before the UN report on Iran.

The Good News Corner:

New York Town Clerk Retains Post

Summary: Christian fends off write-in challenger with decisive majority win.
Rose Marie Belforti, the town clerk of Ledyard, N.Y., retained her position on Tuesday with 62 percent of the vote, despite a write-in election challenge specifically designed to unseat her because of her views on same-sex marriage.

Belforti, who has held the job as Ledyard's town clerk since 2001, made waves -- and headlines -- earlier this year when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Instead, she followed New York's new same-sex marriage law, which allows clerks to delegate the task to someone else if issuing the licenses violates their consciences.

As a result, Belforti became a public target as activists nationwide called for her to be fired. People for the American Way collected more than 15,000 petition signatures seeking her ouster, and a boycott of her cheese-making business cost her half her income.

"When you get 62 percent of the vote in an election, it indicates the people are still behind you," said the Rev. Jason McGuire, executive director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, which has supported Belforti and other town clerks statewide who resigned because of religious or moral objections to issuing same-sex marriage licenses. "There was so much outside influence that the town kind of pushed back and said, 'This is our town, and we don't want you pushing your values on us here in Ledyard.'

"It really came down to gay activists trying to make this a key issue of the campaign, but the local town simply was not with them." (Source: CitizenLink)
