The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 15, 2011

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." (Psalm 27:5 )

The Daily Brief

1. Deficit Super Committee Stuck in Stalemate as Deadline Nears - PBS Newshour

After more than three months of work, and with a deadline nearing, the congressional panel charged with finding ways to cut the nation's budget deficit seems stuck in neutral.

- Lord, we pray for the super committee, and for godly wisdom to come forth to give right ways to cut the nation's budget to avoid a stalemate. May there be those who call upon You in that committee - and when they have heard from You, we pray for favor with other committee members. Again, we pray for favor, right decisions, and changes of wrong thinking. May we hear a good report from this committee on time. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen

- "I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land," says the Lord; "...those who have turned back from following" (Zephaniah 1:1 & 6) the Lord, and have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him."

2. Chance of 2012 U.S. recession tops 50 percent: Fed paper - Reuters

The European debt crisis is raising the odds of a U.S. recession, with economic contraction more likely than not by early 2012, according to research from the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank.

- Lord, we pray for the Europeans. There is much darkness in Europe. Revive Your work, and enable Your people there to help bring Your kingdom to Europeans. We pray for provision as they turn to You. Have mercy on Europe and the United States. May the Holy Spirit bring revival and new works to Europe and the United States. In the name of Jesus we ask for your kingdom to come.

- O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years. In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. (Habakkuk 3:1-2)

3. Controversial Oil Pipeline Plan to Be Rerouted After Threat of Delayed U.S. Approval - Fox News

Days after the Obama administration threatened to delay approval of a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico -- angering unions while appeasing environmentalists -- the company seeking to build the pipeline says it's willing to reroute the project to get it back on track.

- Lord, we thank you there are those who will work around this decision for delay for political reasons until after the election. Many jobs are at stake and we ask for favor as they reroute - that it may be done correctly, also protecting the environment. It seems this would be a good thing for jobs, and the economy, for this pipeline to go between Canada and Texas. We ask for Your direction of this project in the name of Jesus.

- For I considered all this in my heart, so that I would declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hands of the Lord. (Eccl. 9:1)

4. Obama to China: Behave like a "grown up" - Reuters

Obama served notice on Sunday that the United States was fed up with China's trade and currency practices as he turned up the heat on America's biggest economic rival.

- Lord, there is so much that is wrong with what is going on with China. We pray for the relationship with China, and a Holy Spirit intervention to make it right. You have many of Your people in China and we especially pray for them. We pray for protection and provision for them. We pray for salvation and an increased harvest to come to You. Trade and currency problems are a reflection of things that are not in proper relationship to You and Your ways. We pray for right alignment with You. May people come to the knowledge of their iniquities, come to repentance, and come to You. May the earth be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. In Your name, Jesus, we pray.

- Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed, who establishes a city by iniquity. Behold, it is not of the Lord of hosts that the people labor to feed the fire, and nations weary themselves in vain? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk: 2:12-14)

5. Obama: US will consult China, Russia on Iran - Jerusalem Post

China and Russia share the United States' objective of ensuring Iran does not make weapons via its nuclear program and Washington will consult with them on how to achieve that, US President Barack Obama said on Sunday.

- Lord, we pray for godly wisdom for all those who are dealing with Iran and terrorism. In the name of Jesus we submit all our prayers and petitions.

- Wisdom is better than strength...Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good. (Ecclesiastes 9:16 & 18)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6)

1. Germany, France, Turkey join chorus of countries opposing Israeli attack on Iran - Ha'aretz

U.S. also does not seem to support military option against Iran's nuclear program; EU, U.S. want to impose sanctions, but China, Russia, some Gulf states have trading ties with Iran.

2. Israel refuses to tell US its Iran intentions - UK Telegraph

Israel has refused to reassure President Barack Obama that it would warn him in advance of any preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear capabilities, raising fears that it may be planning a go-it-alone attack as early as next summer.

3. Israel to Hold $100M in Taxes Owed to Palestinians - Fox News

Israeli Cabinet ministers decided Monday to hold on to some $100 million in taxes owed to the Palestinians, an official said, despite warnings from Israel's Defense Ministry that the measure could threaten the stability of the Palestinian government in the West Bank.

4. Arab League suspends Syria - PressTV.com

Arab foreign ministers have voted to suspend Syria from its meetings and impose sanctions against the country over its failure to end the crackdown on protesters. The decision was viewed as surprise by many who even after the meeting started expected some form of sanctions to be imposed rather than a full suspension. (View video here.)

5. Palestinians mull next statehood step - Al Jazeera

The Palestinian leadership is discussing what it plans to do next after its application for full UN membership ran into trouble. A committee of the United Nations Security Council was divided on whether to back the bid, which now looks very unlikely to succeed.

President Mahmoud Abbas, who was treated to a hero's welcome from the United Nations in September, will now try and ensure that this apparent defeat in the UN does not damage the popularity of his Fatah party.

Palestine may also continue to push for full statehood recognition in UN agencies, just as it did in UNESCO this month. (View here.)

- We offer a great chorus of PRAISE that this vote never took place and we attribute this victory to the work of intercession. Praise God!

- "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love you." (Psalm 122:6)

"The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance." (Psalm 16:6)

6. IDF to Take Offensive in Gaza If Missile Attacks Resume - A7 News

The IDF's "tit-for-tat" response will be replaced by an offensive in Gaza if missile attacks resume, says Chief of Staff Gantz.

7. On Saturday:17 dead after explosion rocks Revolutionary Guards base outside Iranian capital - Haaretz

Explosion occurs in the village of Bidganeh where the Fifth Raad Missile Brigade, responsible for launching Shahab 3 and 4 missiles, is stationed; satellite images of the site reveal two large military bases near the village.

8. Iran buries its missile defense 'architect' - Jerusalem Post

Iran on Monday buried a senior military officer it called the "architect" of its missile defenses, killed in a massive explosion at a Revolutionary Guards' arms depot that authorities said was an accident.

Israel's explosive answer to Iran amid prophetic overture

Israel's M-O never has been to wait until its too late. That's why the world is on edge that Israel may take a preemptive approach toward Iran's growing nuclear weapons program. But Israel has been taking an aggressive approach all along, it hasn't been all that public, but it has been explosive. In May 2004, a train carrying North Korean missiles to Syria was mysteriously blown up along with a dozen Syrian missile technicians. In September 2007, an Israeli air strike left a crater at a nuclear facility Iran was helping Syria build for military purposes--this was confirmed by the United Nations in April 2011. In December 2010, the Stuxnet virus attacked Iran's nuclear programs, setting it back two years.

A finger has been pointed at Israel over a 2010 explosion at Iran's Shahab facility and an attack earlier the same year that killed one of Iran's top nuclear physicists. Other less newsworthy explosions have also occurred in Iran associated with its nuclear or military facilities. It appears that Monday's explosions in Iran was yet another subtle, but not so subtle reminder that Israel intends to seek every possible option before direct confrontation to protect itself from Iran's nuclear armed future aggressions. The UK Guardian reports that Israel's intelligence agency, the Mossad, was behind the blast at the Bid Ganeh military base that killed Iran's leading missile developer and 16 others.

Israel's defense minister Ehud Barak reacted to Monday's explosion saying, "May there be more like it." Former head of Israeli national security Ilan Mizrahi said, "I have no idea whether this blast was accidental or whether it was sabotage. But I will say God bless those who were behind it, because the free world should be doing its best to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear military capability." Mizrahi also told reporters that "There is nothing in this latest IAEA (UN) report that Israel hasn't known for a long time. Their arsenal of long-range missiles is also too often overlooked. I believe a military strike is an option that should be put clearly on the table. Something should be done to stop Iran."

Then Mizrahi waxed prophetic: "I think in the end [Israel] will stand alone." Certainly, with Israel's chief ally the United States supporting al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood in overthrowing the governments in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt, Israel must feel pretty alone already. But as any reader of Bible prophecy knows, this is just a beginning. Zechariah 12:3 speaks of the Day of the Lord where "all the people of the earth be gathered together against it (Jerusalem)." And there is clear warning in verse 9,"I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." Indeed, Israel will be alone, with the exception of the one true God. And if God be for them, who can be against them? No one that's remaining.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

ObamaCare To The Supreme Court

The Supreme Court announced this morning that ObamaCare will be on the docket this term. Arguments will be heard in March and a decision is expected in late June. It's not at all clear how the ruling will impact the 2012 elections.

Some speculate that a ruling against ObamaCare could fire up Obama's left-wing socialist base. Alternatively, a ruling in favor of ObamaCare could energize conservatives to fight even harder to defeat Obama and take back the Senate so the law can be repealed. Here are two things I know for sure.

First, Justice Elena Kagan should recuse herself from the case. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court, she was Solicitor General of the United States -- the government's top attorney before the Supreme Court. The idea that she had no involvement in formulating a legal defense of ObamaCare in its early stages is laughable.

House Republicans have been pushing the White House and the Justice Department for months to release all relevant records on Kagan's involvement, but the Obama Administration is stonewalling.

Second, it will be tragic if there is a majority on the Supreme Court that believes the government has the authority to compel citizens to purchase products. If the government has that much power, then "we the people" have lost too much of our liberty. (Gary Bauer, End-of-Day; 11-14-11)

Has OWS Worn Out Its Welcome?

After assaults, thefts, rapes, riots, outbreaks of disease, drug overdoses and deaths -- none of which occurred at Tea Party rallies -- it appears as though the Occupy Wall Street movement has finally worn out its welcome. In major cities across the country, police forces are sweeping out OWS camps, cracking down on illegal activity and dismantling tents and other makeshift structures.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter called a press conference yesterday out of concern for the "rapidly deteriorating conditions" at Occupy Philly. Mayor Nutter said that the group was fractured with internal divisions and that the people in the group had changed. He also said "public urination and defecation remain a significant health threat."

Police in Oakland, California, raided the Occupy Oakland camp this morning. According to Mayor Jean Quan, "The encampment became a place where we had repeated violence and, this week, a murder. We had to bring the camp to an end before more people were hurt."

While we can applaud the belated return of law and order to many of America's major cities, I doubt we have heard the last of the OWS movement. Barack Obama and many Democrat are emotionally invested in OWS. They had hoped it would be their ticket to power in 2012. OWS may hibernate over the winter months, but I suspect it will come back next year and under new management, taking its orders from Obama's reelection headquarters in Chicago. (Gary Bauer, End-of-Day; 11-14-11)

- We rejoice tonight that ORDER is being restored in our public squares, and that the spirit of LAWLESSNESS is being brought under control. Continue to intercede for "all in authority" in the cities that have been targeted by the "Occupy" movement, that they be granted "wisdom from above" as they confront this challenge to public safety. Pray they be given STRENGTH to do so, too.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

Another Obama Scandal

First it was Fast and Furious. Then there was Solyndra. Now get ready for the Smallpox scandal. Today's Los Angeles Times reports that the Obama Administration aggressively pushed through a no-bid $440 million contract to produce 1.7 million doses of smallpox vaccine.

The Times notes that smallpox was eradicated in 1978 and the U.S. already has "$1 billion worth of smallpox vaccine" at $3.00 a dose. But the drug to be produced under Obama's no-bid contract costs $255 a dose, and "cannot be tested for effectiveness in people because of ethical constraints -- and no one knows whether animal testing could prove it would work in humans."
So why was it approved? Surprise, surprise -- the company that won the bid is controlled by billionaire Ronald Perelman, a major Democrat Party donor.

Cronyism and corruption could be a major campaign theme in 2012. A new book out by Peter Schweizer of the Hoover Institution shows that fully 80% of grants made by the Obama Administration for "green jobs" projects have gone to companies "run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers." (Gary Bauer, End-of-Day; 11/14/11)

The Good News Corner:

As the latest 40 Days for Life campaign wraps up, LifeNews.com has gathered some of the stats and many inspiring photos.

In all, they report that at least 508 babies were saved from being aborted, as participants stood in prayer across from clinics and spoke with those seeking life-minded counseling.

According to the report, that number is expected to grow as the other 40 Days leaders gather all their information and pass it along.

" . . . for today, let's look at some of the ways lives have been changed during 40 Days for Life-and thank God for his abundant blessings during this time of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion."
