The Daily Brief - Wednesday, February 29, 2012

"His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." (Psalm 91:4)

We have been blessed over the years to bring you Bill Wilson's The Daily Jot, with his insightful commentaries on today's breaking news. His penetrating analyses and behind-the-scenes reports have been a blessing to us all. Amen!

However, the time has now come for us to devote our limited space to other breaking news of critical interest for prayer, so (sadly) we need to let go of The Daily Jot on a regular basis.

We urge all of our faithful readers to continue to visit The Daily Jot by going here, five days a week.

Thank you for your continued support of both Bill Wilson's ministry, and of ours.

In His Amazing Grace,
Sara C. Ballenger, Founder and President

The Daily Brief

1. N. Korea agrees to halt nuke program for food
- Times 24/7

The United States says North Korea has agreed to suspend uranium enrichment and a moratorium on nuclear, and long-range missile tests in exchange for 240,000 metric tons of food aid.

- Father, how will we monitor whether North Korea suspends their uranium enrichment in exchange for food? Give wisdom and strategy in this situation.

-Food gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel. F(Proverbs 20:17)

2. Moslem threatens to shut down conservative news site -

A man who says he represents the United Moslem Nations International organization has warned WND to "moderate" its reporting on issues involving Islam because of how Muslims may react. The warning came in an email to WND from Faarooq al Mohammedi, who said he was asking on behalf of the Muslim organization that WND "comply as it would be in the companies [sic] best interest as we would not want to take you down the same rout [sic] as we have with other non-complaint media firms.

- Father, we do not moderate our news for any other organizations. We bind these tactics of fear and control. We pray these threats and plans of attack fall, and come to nothing. In Jesus Name.

- You shall not be afraid of the terror of night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day. (Psalm 91: 5)

3. Treasury shuts down Iranian cash-for-oil scheme
- The Wall Street Journal

The U.S. Treasury Department disrupted a Dubai-based banking operation that Washington believes had become Tehran's primary conduit for evading international sanctions and processing its oil sales, according to people briefed on the operation.

- Father, thank you for this discovery. Give our leaders a plan of action for this evasion of international sanctions. We pray this banking operation in Dubai be dissolved and scattered. In Jesus Name.

- The enemy shall not exact from him or do him violence or outwit him, nor shall the wicked afflict and humble him. (Psalm 89:22)

4. GM stiffs taxpayers, lavishes bonuses on workers - Times 24/7

General Motors plans to pay bonuses of at least $182 million to white-collar workers today, on top of $332.5 million in profit-sharing it's paying factory workers. Some Republicans believe the government should get back the money it spent to save GM before anybody gets a bonus.

- Father, settle the debate on this subject. Direct these leaders to the right course of action over this issue. In Jesus Name.

- A just balance and scales are the Lord's; all the weights of the bag are His work. (Proverbs 16:11)

5. Stunner: GOP blindsided by Snowe's plan to retire - Times 23/7

Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe's surprise retirement announcement Tuesday blindsided fellow Republicans and gave Democrats another morale boost when it comes to their prospects for holding the majority this fall. GOP sources said Snowe's decision caught party leaders completely flat-footed. Senate Republican aides were also stunned by the retirement.

- Father, we pray You bring forth a replacement for Senator Snowe. We cast the care of this over on You. We declare a "breakthrough" during this panic over her retirement. We pray Your plans be established for the state of Maine. Amen!

- For He performs (that which He has) planned for me (Maine), and of many such matters He is mindful. (Job 23:14)

6. Prayer in schools permitted, but only for sorrow
- Fox News

In times of great tragedy, public school leaders inevitably seek guidance and solace from the same God they've expelled.

- Father, may these public school leaders across America recognize they need guidance and solace throughout the whole year, and not just in times of tragedy. May they see their need for God in the education of children. We speak comfort to this community in Ohio during this horrific tragedy.

- Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! Selah!
(Psalm 68:19)

7. House GOP leaders announce vote on jobs package as early as next week - Conservative Byte

GOP leaders said on Tuesday that the House is set to vote on a package of job-creation bills as soon as next week.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who spearheaded the effort to bundle six bipartisan bills together, told reporters on Capitol Hill that the chamber would vote on the "Jumpstart Our Business Startups," or JOBS Act, in a little over a week.

Cantor, flanked by his fellow members of the House GOP leadership team, including Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and GOP Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), explained that the JOBS Act, in part, would "reflect the work of the president's jobs council."

- Offer a word of thanksgiving that this bill is now being introduced in Congress. Pray for swift passage of the JOBS bill in both the House and in the Senate in coming weeks, and for eventual signing into law by the president. Our people need to get to work NOW. Pray!

- "For the eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer." (I Peter 3:12)

8. Obama Attacks America's Founding Principles - Conservative Bytes

Hussein Obama - in a speech to the United Auto Workers union - said that "trying to climb to the very top" was not what America is "about," saying that it was "greed" and that in reality "we're all in it together."

"America's not just looking out for yourself, it's not just about greed, it's not just about trying to climb to the very top and keep everybody else down," Hussein Obama said at the UAW's annual National Community Action Program Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.

"I keep on hearing these same folks talk about values all the time. You want to talk about values? Hard work, that's a value. Looking out for one another, that's a value. The idea that we're all in it together and [that] I'm my brother's keeper and [my] sister's keeper, that's a value," Obama declared. (Read more, including the video of this speech.) [Also reported by POLITICO]

- Pray that the American people are not deceived by this twisted rhetoric.

- "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." (Isaiah 5:20)

"If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm11:3)

9. Obama's Faith Advisory Council Has 'Gone Dark'
- Conservative Byte; POLITICO

At a time during which Hussein Obama could desperately use the support of faith leaders, it seems his council of religious advisers, much like his relations with Catholic leaders, has gone, as Politico notes, "dark." While his initial weeks in office offered people of faith the promise that he would be in-tune with their needs, it seems the structure of religious leadership he had setup and assembled with great fanfare has since dwindled and gone unused. Politico has more:

Hussein Obama's first Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships delivered a 163-page report in March 2010 and then disbanded. The second council has waited more than a year for a full slate of appointees and has yet to meet. And the hottest issue - whether religious groups that receive public money can discriminate in hiring - remains unresolved more than three years after Obama promised to address it. Read more.

- Apparently, this "Advisory Council" has been only "window dressing" -- designed to appease people of faith and to hoodwink them into believing that Obama really cared about our values. Now, we know better.

Pray that the American people will wake up to this fact, and that we not be hoodwinked again.

- "For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:14)

10. House Passes Bill to Overturn 'Kelo' Eminent Domain Decision - The Madisonian

While we hold House Republicans accountable for breaking their spending pledge, we should also publicize the good legislation they pass. Yesterday, the House passed a commonsense bill by voice vote to overturn an aspect of the 2005 Supreme Court eminent domain decision in Kelo v. City of New London.

The Fifth Amendment grants government the right to take private property and use it for public functions like roads and bridges, as long as the owner is fully compensated. In 2005, the Supreme Court shocked the country be extending eminent domain rights to other private entities for the purpose of economic development. The consequence of that decision was that if a local government deemed it necessary to tear down a Motel 6 and hand the property to the Ritz Carlton, it would be permissible under the guise of economic development. This decision was one of the most egregious infringements on our property rights ever. READ MORE.

- Offer praise for this good report!

1. 'Naked Archaeologist' finds signs Jerusalem cave was used to bury Jesus' disciples - Haaretz

In the early Christian burials in the Catacombs of Rome are 108 depictions of Jonah, Jacobovici told Haaretz last week. Jonah's power as a Christian symbol comes from a verse in the Book of Matthew comparing Jonah's emergence after three days in the belly of the whale to Jesus' resurrection after three days.

2. Israel chides UN over its silence on rocket fire
- Ynet News

Israel's Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor sent a stern letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressing outrage over the UN's failure to condemn the firing of rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel.

3. Modern day zealots envision new Jewish Temple in Jerusalem - France 24

for Jews, who revere the site as the former location of the First and Second Temples, it is a bitter reminder of a harsh reality -- they are not allowed to worship at Judaism's holiest site. Known to Jews as the Temple Mount...

4. WikiLeaks: Russia gave Israel Iranian system's codes
- Ynet News

According to the leaked document, Israel gave Russia the "data link codes" for unmanned aerial vehicles that the Jewish state sold to Georgia, and in return, Russia gave Israel the codes for Tor-M1 missile defense systems that Russia sold Iran.

Senator Harry Reid has just announced that he will allow Senator Roy Blunt's amendment (S. 1318) to be brought to the Senate floor tomorrow. This is a critical vote!

The "Blunt Amendment" restores the conscience protections and civil religious liberties that were maliciously oppressed by President Obama's latest unconstitutional "mandate" that even religiously-affiliated organizations must provide contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs to their employees.

This latest ObamaCare mandate extends far beyond contraception provision. In fact, this tyrannical mandate tramples on every American's First Amendment rights!

The Blunt Amendment states this regarding President Obama's "contraceptive and abortifacient" mandate:

"Nothing in this title (or any amendment made by this title) shall be construed to require an individual or institutional health care provider, or authorize a health plan to require a provider, to provide, participate in, or refer for a specific item or service contrary to the provider's religious beliefs or moral convictions."

Liberty Counsel Action strongly supports the passage of the Blunt Amendment and the restoration of our First Amendment rights!

++This critical vote is scheduled in the Senate tomorrow!

This is our no-holds-barred call to action: We must tell Senators in no uncertain terms that the Blunt Amendment MUST BE PASSED! (Source: Mathew Staver, President; Liberty Counsel Action)

"Congress Gets Blunt about Faith "

By Tony Perkins, President, Family Research Council

This must be a leap year, seeing as the President wants religious freedom to take a flying leap from the public square. More than a month has passed since the administration ordered believers to check their conscience at the workplace door, but time has not healed all wounds. Americans are still incensed that the President would order taxpayers, including faith-based groups, to fund abortion drugs and contraception that violates what their churches teach. Refuse, and the Department of Health and Human Services will show you what pain is. Under the rule, HHS promises to take nonconformists to the cleaners with penalties of $100 per employee, per day. "A fine on faith," Peggy Noonan mused. "Who thought they'd live to see that in America?"
Congress is doing everything it can to stop the mandate from taking effect. The House has already held three hearings on the matter, including one yesterday featuring FRC's own Jeanne Monahan. Six Republicans and six Democrats weighed in with questions during the Judiciary Committee's panel, "Executive Overreach: the HHS Mandate Versus Religious Liberty." Jeanne was one of three women on the four-person panel, which drew a standing-room only crowd until members were called away to vote. Only one of the women, Dr. Lindsay Rosenstock, supported the President's policy, which surprised no one since she chaired the Institute of Medicine committee that pushed for contraception and abortion drugs to be classified as "preventative care" in the first place.

The panel made a powerful plea--but the biggest moment of the debate is expected to come tomorrow on the Senate floor. That's when leaders are gunning for a vote on Sen. Roy Blunt's Respect for Conscience Rights Act. Under his amendment, which Republicans plan to attach to a key highway bill, any person or institution could opt out of the mandate on religious grounds. The actual vote will be a motion to table, and if a majority of Senators agree to table the amendment, it fails. Sen. Blunt desperately needs your help to keep that from happening. A mix of Democrats and Republicans are on the fence about Blunt's amendment.

The Blunt Amendment MUST BE PASSED!

Please take a few minutes to call them today or tomorrow morning and urge them to vote "no" on the motion to table. They are Senators Kent Conrad, North Dakota (202-224-2043); Mary Landrieu, Louisiana (202-224-5824); Robert Casey, Pennsylvania (202-224-6324); Joe Manchin, West Virginia ( 202-224-3954); Bill Nelson, Florida (202-224-5274); Mark Pryor, Arkansas (202-224-2353); Joe Tester, Montana (202-224-2644); Joe Lieberman, Connecticut (202-224-4041); Olympia Snowe, Maine (202-224-5344), Susan Collins, Maine (202-224-2523). If you get a busy signal, try calling the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

New Feature! Legislative Focus

Legislative Focus: Highway Bill

The Senate and House have gone in opposite directions regarding the highway bill. Thanks to your tenacious activism, John Boehner has pulled the House bill (H.R. 7) from the floor. He will no longer pursue a 5-year authorization, probably opting for a more modest two-year authorization. The Senate, on the other hand, is moving full-steam ahead on its 2-year version, S.1813. They are expected to take up the legislation when they return from recess on Tuesday, and debate the bill -along with its sundry amendments - until Thursday.

Senate amendments and keeping focus: The highway bill, as with most major Senate bills, will be used as a platform for members to offer numerous non-germane amendments. There will be some good amendments that will possibly come up for a vote, such as Roy Blunt's amendment to overturn the HHS's contraception mandate.

However, we must not lose sight of the underlying bill. Many senators will boast about their amendments to the bill, or inveigh against Harry Reid for blocking their choice amendment. Unfortunately, many of these senators, including at least half the Republicans, support the underlying bill. The underlying bill is terrible, as it raises taxes to fund a bloated highway bill that contains no federalism reforms.

House bill rope-a-dope:

While many people are touting Boehner's retreat on a 5-year highway bill as a victory for conservatives, we must be vigilant of bait-and-switch shenanigans in the new bill. It is very likely that Boehner will propose a new bill that incurs just as a large an annual deficit as the first bill. It's just that the authorization period will only go for 2 years instead of 5. This will allow him to claim that the bill is totally offset by the drilling revenue and spending cuts; however, the deficit in the trust fund will still be the same. Whether we spend $105 billion over 2 years or $262 billion over 5 years it is still the same annual level of $52.5 billion, roughly $14 billion more than the annual revenue from the gas tax. If the outline of the new bill follows along these lines, we must still oppose the bill, while demanding either a cut to mass transit or full devolution of transportation authority to the states. Obama Proposes New Law: 'Prevention Detention'

A commentary by Rachel Maddow

On The Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel discusses Obama's speech today with Vincent Warren with the Center for Constitutional Rights, who met with Obama at the White House yesterday with other human rights activists and civil libertarians about the concerns with Obama's embrace of Bush and Cheney policies. 'Preventive detention' at the top of the list.

- This video, by a woman on the far, far left, is very revealing and is cause for much concern, as this policy has now been included in the recently-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) -- the bill that Obama signed into law on New Years Eve, Dec.31, 2012.

- Pray that others on the far left will also see the dangers of this administration as it continues to violate constitutional law; and pray that the NDAA is contested in a court of law and quickly!

P.M. Netanyahu Heads for Washington

Pressure Rises for Strike on Iran

Ehud Barak Arrives Tomorrow Ahead of P.M. Netanyahu to Begin Talks in Washington

JERUSALEM - Israel's prime minister sets off this week on a U.S. visit clouded by a deepening rift with Washington, which is pressing Israel to hold off on any attack against Iran's suspect nuclear program.

Although Israel says it hasn't decided whether to strike, it has signaled readiness to do so -- a move that would have deep worldwide implications.

Senior Israeli officials say Israel would have to act by summer in order to be effective. U.S. officials, wary that an Israeli strike could drive up oil prices and entangle the U.S. in a new Mideast military confrontation during the presidential election season, want to give diplomacy and sanctions more time to work.

These differences have created tension ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu's arrival at the White House next Monday. Aides to the Israeli leader would not say what he plans to tell President Obama. (Fox News) Read more:

> > > Because the meetings that have been planned this weekend to take place between the president and P.M. Netanyahu are so critical to our future, we are calling all of our prayer partners who are able to do so to enter into a DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING in advance of these discussions, throughout the day on FRIDAY, MARCH 2.

In addition, we are calling ALL who are able to do so to enter into ALL-NIGHT PRAYER on Friday night, as well.

"It is written . . . the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much!" (James 5:16) AMEN

Please check back here tomorrow (Thursday) for more details on the all-night prayer initiative, and thank you for "praying into" this very special event, in your own closet of prayer, at that time.

The Good News Corner:

Rowan County Commissioners Have No Intention of Altering their Prayers

SALISBURY, N.C. - The American Civil Liberties Union and its threats to sue government bodies who open their meetings with prayer to a specific deity don't seem to have frightened Rowan County Commissioners, four of whom said this week they have no intention of altering the prayers they lift unashamedly in the name of Jesus.

In fact, Chairman Chad Mitchell started Monday's board meeting, which was packed with hundreds of prayer supporters, with an appeal to the "Father" in "Jesus name." His freedom to pray as he felt led was proclaimed loudly and clearly by some two dozen members of the public who encouraged the board not to back down from the ACLU.

Rowan is among some 25 to 30 government bodies across the state in the organization's crosshairs in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to let stand the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in a Forsyth County case that effectively outlawed so-called "sectarian" prayers at public meetings. Katy Parker, legal director for the ACLU's Tar Heel chapter, told the media that Rowan was the first government to say that they're "going to completely disregard the law."

"The court's interpretation of the First Amendment is so contrary to the true meaning of our Constitution. These commissioners, who are exercising the freedom of religion guaranteed them by our nation's founders are standing firm and they are an inspiration to people everywhere," said the Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League. "We commend their resolve and urge those residents who came out to sing and pray and spur them on to keep up their encouragement for what may result in a legal battle ahead."

While Rowan resident Chris Crowell suggested the board consider a moment of silence or a more general kind of prayer that didn't "advance or promote your religion," the vast majority of speakers said commissioners should pray according to their beliefs.

"If they tell county commissioners they can't pray, soon they're going to be in my church telling me I can't pray in the name of Jesus," resident Terry Brown told the crowd. Others said they hoped the issue would serve to wake up the church and spur revival.

As they spoke inside, the overflow crowd in the lobby of the Rowan County Administrative Office began singing hymns.

Commissioner Jim Sides let it be known that he had no plans of changing his approach to prayer. "I will continue to pray in Jesus name. I volunteer to be the first to go to jail for this cause," he said. The ACLU has requested an answer from Rowan commissioners about the matter by March 5, which is also the date of the next county board meeting. (By L.A. Williams, Correspondent, Christian Action League)

"His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." (Psalm 91:4)

 The Daily Brief

1. Israel Won't Warn U.S. Before Strike On Iran - AP

WASHINGTON -- Israeli officials say they won't warn the U.S. if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, according to one U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions. The pronouncement, delivered in a series of private, top-level conversations, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill.

Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel's potential attack. The U.S. has been working with the Israelis for months to persuade them that an attack would be only a temporary setback to Iran's nuclear program.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak delivered the message to a series of top-level U.S. visitors to the country, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the White House national security adviser and the director of national intelligence, and top U.S. lawmakers, all trying to close the trust gap between Israel and the U.S. over how to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment, and the Pentagon and Office of Director of National Intelligence declined to comment, as did the Israeli Embassy.

- Lord, prepare mercy and truth for Israel and all leaders working on the problem with Iran. We bind deception and loose the Holy Spirit of truth for Israel, and the meetings in Washington, D.C. in the next couple of weeks. We pray for protection of Israel. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him! (Psalm 61:7)

2. Iran prepares for kamikaze attacks - World Net Daily

Tehran military on high alert with planes, speedboats in Persian Gulf. Even as it continued to talk with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Iran continued to prepare for war over its nuclear weapons program, training for kamikaze attacks in the Persian Gulf with both planes and speedboats, sources within the Iranian armed forces report.

- Lord, we pray for a confounding of the works of the enemy and planned attacks. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who rejoice in my hurt; Let them be clothes with shame and dishonor who exalt themselves against me. (Psalm 35:26)

3. Court Stops Eviction of Churches Meeting in New York Schools - Charisma News

New York City churches that have been meeting in public schools won a reprieve from eviction. A Friday court order allows churches to continue meeting for worship services while a lawsuit against the city continues. The preliminary injunction against New York City's unique-in-the-nation prohibition on worship services in vacant public school buildings on weekends comes on the heels of a temporary order that allowed the Bronx Household of Faith to meet for 10 days.

"Churches that have been helping communities for years can once again offer the hope that empty buildings can't. The city can't single out religious expression and treat it worse than the expression of everybody else," says Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) senior counsel Jordan Lorence. "The court's order allows churches and other religious groups to meet in empty school buildings on weekends just as non-religious groups do while the lawsuit proceeds. The city's view of the First Amendment is wrong, and we intend to continue to demonstrate that in court."

- Lord, we thank you the court allowed churches to continue meeting in schools. We pray that the lawsuit will be successful to allow access to meeting in schools permanently. We pray for the Alliance Defense Fund, and Jordan Lorence for wisdom, anointed words, and favor as they present their case. May the court make a righteous judgment that will send a message to the nation. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgement.
(John 7:24)

4. Victim of Ohio school shooting declared brain dead, suspect described as 'outcast' - Fox News

Authorities said Tuesday that a student wounded in an Ohio high school shooting has been declared brain dead, the second fatality in a deadly rampage that left three others wounded.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner said 17-year-old Russell King Jr., who was airlifted to a hospital Monday following a shooting inside Chardon High School, has been pronounced brain dead.

A teenager described as an "outcast" is suspected of targeting King and four other classmates inside the school's cafeteria at around 7:30 a.m. Monday. Another student, 17-year-old Daniel Parmertor, died hours after the shooting.

Read more:

- We pray for those injured, and healing. We pray for the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to invade this situation. May the families receive ministry they need. Lord, we also pray for the teenager who has done the shooting, that he would be freed from the enemy's lies to him, that he would come to know You, and that justice will be done. May You bring good out of this tragedy. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
(2 Corinthians 1:3-6)

From contraception to hiring, churches allow White House to take authority

The man who occupies the Oval Office has taken authority over many of America's churches. On one hand, he has allowed religious groups that receive public money to discriminate against homosexuals in their hiring practices. On the other, he has said that all these groups must provide their workers free birth control insurance coverage. This has sparked criticism from the somewhat loyal opposition who would like to take the president's job come November. Raising charges from the president being engaged in a war on religion to having fought against religion to practicing phony theology, candidates may be appealing to public sentiment, but the problem is much deeper.

The First Amendment of the US Constitution decrees a "hands off" policy toward churches saying: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." This means that the government cannot interfere with the establishment or free exercise of religion. Since no laws can be made regarding the free exercise of religion, how then can the White House exact a policy that either allows discrimination based on religious belief or mandates that churches must go against their religious beliefs?

Somewhere along the line churches, ministries of churches, and independent ministries got the bright idea that they could raise more money and receive more money, even from the government, if they surrendered their independence from the government by incorporating as a 501C3 not for profit organization. Instead of being a church, they would be a corporation under the laws of the nation, under the direct control of the federal government. In other words, they stepped out of the freedom provided by the Constitution and into bondage to the government. They say it is for tax purposes, but churches are not taxed and donations to churches are tax deductible.

Given the heresy of dominion theology--that religion would become the government and rule over the nations so that Christ can return--it would seem only a natural progression to be part of the government, use the government's money, and expect the government to do what many churches are no longer willing to do--deal with the poor, the orphans and the widows. Now, they scream the loudest when the government flexes its legal control. Yeshua (Jesus) said in Mark 12:17, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to YHVH (God) the things that are YHVH's." The things of YHVH's are found in the holy scriptures. When churches give up control of them to Caesar, they are controlled by Caesar.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Iran - Part One:

The Iranian Crisis: Heading for Disaster

Prayer Requests from Intercessors for Israel

Each week that passes without the Iranian threat being dealt with, brings Israel - and the rest of the world - that much closer to disaster. Leaders in the West cannot be that blind that they do not see the game Iran's leaders are playing - and yet they continue to talk about sanctions as if that will accomplish anything. Both Cuba and North Korea have been under sanctions for decades without any results whatsoever. So we must continue to watch and pray into this situation.
* Lord, cause Iran's leadership to make such major mistakes that even the blind shepherds who lead Western nations see what their game is (Psalm 129:5).

* Push the spiritual prince of Persia (Dan. 10:13) to overplay his hand.

* You said You would 'curse those who curse' Your people (Gen. 12:3). Lord, hear what Ahmadinejad and Khomeini say about Israel and the Jews, and curse their demonic plans.

* Lord of hosts, whatever it takes, prevent Iran from obtaining weapons of mass destruction.
* Can we suggest that pushing them to close the Straits of Hormuz would put the proverbial cat among the pigeons!

* Like You did with Haman of old, so do with 'Persia's' current leadership and let the gallows that they are preparing for the Jews be turned against them (Esther 7:10).

* God, physically shake that nation - especially the areas under their nuclear facilities.

* God, glorify Your name in Iran. Save multitudes and remove their wicked shepherds. And I will set My throne in Elam [ancient Persia], and will destroy from there the king and the princes, says the LORD. (Jer. 49:38) [Source: Intercessors for Israel; Weekly Prayer Alert; Friday, February 24, 2012]

Iran - Part Two

If All Else ("Diplomatic Solutions") Fails . . .

More Prayer Requests from Intercessors for Israel

If God does not deal with Iran sovereignly, or if He chooses not to wake up the West, then Israel will most likely turn its' covert war against Iran into a major military attack. And this could be God's will, as He has prophesied that when Israel is brought back to the land, He would make of them a mighty army - for His glory!

* Then He said unto me, Prophesy unto the wind [spirit] . . . son of man, and say . . .Thus says the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O [spirit], and breathe upon these slain [the whole house of Israel v.11], that they may live. So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the [spirit] came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. (Ezek. 37:9-10)

* When I have bent Judah for Me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and made you as the sword of a mighty man. YHWH shall be seen over them, and His arrow shall go forth as the lightning . . . YHWH of hosts shall defend them, and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones . . .They shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because YHWH is with them . . . I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them, for I have mercy on them, and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am YHWH their God, and will hear them.

(Zech. 9:13-15a; 10:5-6; see also Deut. 33:26-29; Isa. 41:10-16; Jer. 51:19-24; Mic. 4:11-13; Zech. 12:6-9)

* Thank You that Netanyahu recently confessed that You were on Israel's side against this threat, as well as saying that Israel has a right - even a responsibility - to defend itself.

* If Israel needs to deal with Iran militarily, give Israel's leaders Your wisdom and timing.

* Enable the IDF to use the correct weapons and to be super-creative in its tactics.

* Give to Israel's military industry wisdom to create new weapons systems if need be.

* Blessed be the LORD my strength, who teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight. My goodness, my fortress, my high tower, and my deliverer, my shield, and He in whom I trust . . . (Psa. 144:1-2a)

* Sow panic among Israel's enemies - like You have done so often in the past (Exo. 14:25; Judg. 7:19-22; 1 Sam. 17:50-51; 2 Kin. 7:5-7.)

* Make Israel a world leader in cyber-warfare techniques.

* Expose all of the hidden plans of the enemy. [Source: Intercessors for Israel; Weekly Prayer Alert; Friday, February 24, 2012]

The Good News Corner:

Discovered: The Queen of Sheba's Fabled Mine

It was where she mined the gold to give King Solomon.

(Ethiopia)-Archaeologists from Great Britain have found what they believe is the goldmine where the Biblical Queen of Sheba mined over four tons of gold to give to King Solomon in Jerusalem.

According to a Daily Mail report, the ancient goldmine, in addition to the ruins of a temple, were discovered on the Gheralta plateau, part of Sheba's former territory.

A 20-foot stone bearing an inscription of the sun and crescent moon-the Queen of Sheba's signature emblem-reportedly covered the entrance to the mine.

Said the excavation leader Louise Schofield: "The fact that we might have the Queen of Sheba's mines is extraordinary." [Source: Damien Gayle - The Daily Mail] Read more. [Reported by: Breaking Christian News, Feb. 20, 2012]

"His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." (Psalm 91:4)

Will address AIPAC Policy Conference and Meet with President Obama at the White House on Monday, March 5.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to the United States next weekend to address the annual Policy Conference of the American Israel Policy Action Committee (AIPAC).

While he is here, he will meet with President Obama at the White House. Both events will Take place on Monday, March 5th.

[Prayers offered by Intercessors for Israel in Jerusalem:]

- Prepare him for his early March trip to the US - including a meeting with President Obama.

- Concerning that meeting, we remind You of Your promise in Numbers 23:23:
"Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel. According to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!"

Western nations are stepping up their pressure on Israeli leadership to hold off on any plans that might be in the works to launch a military strike against Iran's nuclear installations.

Led by the United States, which has been sending a succession of senior security officials to the Jewish state, London was the latest to join the chorus. Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chief of Staffs, told CNN on Sunday [February 19] that Israel understands American concerns "that a strike at this time would be destabilizing and wouldn't achieve their long-term objectives."

Dempsey echoed the common assessment that complete destruction of the Iranian nuclear weapon threat is beyond the capability of the Israeli military and at best, an Israeli strike will only delay the inevitable by a year or so.

US National Security Adviser Tom Donilon was in Israel at the time, presumably delivering the same message to Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who has been causing concern in Washington with his statements harbingering Iran's rapidly nearing "zone of invulnerability" - the tipping point after which a military strike would be ineffective. (By The Media Line; excerpt, February 20, 2012)

- Pray that Israel will understand the concerns of its allies, but will make decisions on what God wants of Israel. Pray for the leadership to follow the dictates of the Lord first and not weigh in on the thoughts of man.

- "For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly." (Proverbs 2:6-7) [Reported by: Bridges for Peace]

Oscar Wilde noted "true friends stab you in the front." Which explains why President Obama-- the self-proclaimed "best friend Israel ever had" -- has decided to cut funding for the Jewish state's missile defense system at the same time he wants to restore funding to UNESCO. (Israel's best friends will remember that the President was forced to cut support to the traditional anti-Israel agency by federal law because the organization recognized the Palestinian Authority as a state.)

If that wasn't enough evidence of the President's "unshakeable bond" with Israel, these policy decisions come exactly at the same time Israel is engaged in a cold, covert war against Iran and making preparations for a possible strike against Iranian nuclear facilities. As the song goes, "That's what friends are for."

The president really believes -- as a friend -- that Israel should do nothing with regard to Iran except boost its ability to defend against a nuclear attack and focus on reaching a peace treaty with the Palestinian authority. President Obama still believes that the key to neutralizing Iran and its alliance with Hamas and Hezbollah is for Israel to cut itself down to the size and shape of the Palestinians' liking . . . - Offer up a prayer that P.M. Netanyahu and his officials be not deceived by any gestures of "good will" from the Americans that hide a hidden agenda. Ask the Lord to give wisdom to the sitting "king" of Israel. In Jesus' Name, amen.

Egyptian Presidential Candidate Tawfiq Okasha declared last week that the Egyptian Army will engage in armed warfare against Israel, the United States and the European Union within three months.  The declaration, made in a segment translated into English by The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) on February 9, Okasha slso said that "like the Nazis, the Jews aim to rule and own the world."

"Hitler's principle was that the best race must become master of the world . . . Hitler established German Nazism to rule and own the world. On the other hand, we find that this is precisely the same philosophy as that of the Israelites and the Jews who say: we are the Semitic people, we are the best in the world, and we must rule and own the world, because the Semites are the kings of the earth and all that is upon it," he said. . . .

He then went on to say that Israel, America and the European Union are planning to destroy three institutions in Egypt with "exceptional malice," namely the Egyptian general intelligence agency, the Egyptian armed forces, and the Egyptian military intelligence.

He then declared, "as of today, the war effort of the people has begun. This is essential, a war effort! . . . This is a fierce and bitter battle which began without any shooting, but will end with shooting. I say this here and now, the Egyptian army will open fire on the armies of the enemies," he proclaimed. When asked exactly when an armed war would begin, he replied, "within three months." - Oh Heavenly Father, it is unbelievable what this man is accusing Your People of being and doing! He is calling forth war against Your People based upon false accusations and history! We plead for You to call forth Your angels to keep a hedge of protection around Your Land and People. We call forth confusion and chaos into the Egyptian camp. We ask for the defeat of Egyptian presidential candidate Tawfiq Okasha. Have mercy , Lord, on Your own who are in Egypt, including all who will come to You, but extend Your arm to confront all the accusers with Who You truly are, the One and Only Most High God, in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "Therefore thus says the Lord God: 'Surely I will bring a sword upon you and cut off from you man and beast. And the land of Egypt shall become desolate and waste; then they will know that I am the Lord, because he said "the River is mine, and I have made it." Indeed, therefore, I am against you and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Ethiopia. Neither foor of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast pass through it, and it shall be uninhabited forty years.' " (Ezekiel 29:8-11)

Hundreds of Muslim worshippers clashed with police on Friday at Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Following Friday prayers, hundreds of worshippers began hurling rocks at the Mughrabi Bridge at the entrance to the Temple Mount, which prompted Israeli police forces to enter the plaza and attempt t to scatter the protest. In light of several violent incidents that occurred at the Temple Mount this week, police heightened their presence at the site on Friday morning. Israeli police said that dozens of protesters gathered inside the Al-Aqsa mosque after hurling rocks at security forces, who, in a rare move, came to the entrance of the mosque and used stun grenades to scatter the protesters. Eleven policemen and 15 Palestinians were wounded as a result of the clashes. Four Palestinians were arrested. Jerusalem District Commander Niso Shaham said that Friday saw the most serious clashes at the Temple Mount since the recent wave of protests erupted two weeks ago, when right-wing leaders called on Jews to visit the Temple Mount and cleanse the area of Muslims. - Lord Jesus, we fall before You to plead for discernment for all leaders and officials involved to stop this ongoing escalation of violence in this area considered so sacred by both sides involved. Lord, this is Your Land, Your People yet it has been contested by the Moslems for many long years as their land. Extend Your arm to calm the Moslem protestors. May any confrontation involving this Holy place be in Your time, not that of the enemy of our souls, in Jesus' name, Amen & Amen.

Hezbollah has accumulated 45,000 missiles that pose a threat to Israel, a senior Defense Ministry official told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai Saturday. According to Defense Ministry Director of Policy and Political-Military Affairs Amos Gilad, Iran and Syria supplied the missiles to the group using ships, planes and trains. Gilad told the newspaper that Lebanon's leaders are unaware of these developments, creating a vacuum that has given rise to a new, independent entity he dubbed "Hezbollastan." The entity smuggles weapons without need for permission from the Lebanese tax authorities, Gilad said.

The defense official addressed Iran's nuclear development, saying that it poses Israel and the world's top challenge. He accused the regime in Tehran of intending to use nuclear strategy not only against the Jewish, but also against Arab regimes and the Gulf nations. (YnetNews) Read more.

- Thank the LORD God Jehovah that He promises to protect Israel, for only He can keep her safe from such horrific weapons now poised against her. Continue to keep a watchful eye on the link between Hezbollah, Syria, and Israel . . .for Hezbollah is Syria's hidden army inside Lebanon -- wiating to "take out" Israel on her northern border. What will happen next? Pray!

In a surprisingly descriptive press statement on Tuesday, [February 21] the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran did not grant them access to a military site suspected of nuclear weapons-related research in a just-concluded trip to the country. The UN nuclear watchdog also said they and Iran were unable to agree on a plan to seek clarifications regarding the Iranian nuclear program, "particularly" possible military aspects.

The senior IAEA expert team visit to Iran took place on February 20-21, following up on a multi-day visit in late January. In both visits, the UN team requested permission to access the military access at Parchin, which Iran denied. (Bridges for Peace; excerpt)

- Pray that Iran's non-compliance will alarm the UN and the world. Pray that the Iranian people involved will be confused and unable to make progress on any kind of nuclear weapon.

All Banks Unable to Function without Going through "SWIFT" Network

The European Union is preparing regulations that will shut out Iran's banks from a major financial clearinghouse used by virtually every country in the world, a senior official said Thursday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of European Union rules, said the regulations are currently being worked on, but should be adopted "rather quickly." The move is part of an unprecedented escalation of economic pressure by the United States and the EU meant to halt Iran's suspected drive for nuclear weapons.

The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, or SWIFT, said last week it would comply with EU instructions to cut off the Iranian banks once it has clarity on what new rules will require. SWIFT, which handles cross-border payments for more than 10,000 financial institutions and corporations in 210 countries, must comply with EU regulations because it is a European entity. The Brussels-based group is an essential way station for international transactions, electronically converting currencies and processing payments such as those for Iran's crude oil exports.

The EU official said SWIFT had issued the statement, which the Obama administration welcomed, to forestall any possible action against it in the United States. In Washington . . . The Senate Banking Committee has passed a measure directing the White House to press SWIFT to block Iranian entities. The House of Representatives is pushing a tougher measure, which would compel the administration to sanction SWIFT unless it stopped providing services to Iran. Jodi Herman, a senior policy aide to Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez, met with SWIFT's general counsel and said it appeared that the organization, in conjunction with the European Union, is moving toward including Iran's powerful Central Bank in its ban. The inclusion of the Central Bank would greatly increase the impact of the ban on Iran. (Associated Press) Read more.

Their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken." (Psalm 37:12-15)

U.N. investigators began two days of meetings in Iran on February 20th, offering Tehran's government a chance to stem growing speculation the country's nuclear program will spark a military conflict. Officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency flew to the Iranian capital for their second round of talks in a month. The visit begins a week after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country will boost production of 20 percent enriched uranium at a deep underground facility in Fordo, near the holy city of Qom.

"We hope to have some concrete results after this trip," the IAEA's top inspector Herman Nackaerts said late yesterday at Vienna International Airport. "The highest priority remains, of course, the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program, and we want to tackle all outstanding issues." (Intercessors for America)

- Pray that our U.S. leadership both civilian and military - fully understands the mindset of the current regime in Iran. Pray that the Lord will give our leaders wisdom to grasp the gravity of this situation. The Pentagon is beefing up U.S. sea- and land-based defenses in the Persian Gulf to counter any attempt by Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military has notified Congress of plans to preposition new mine-detection and clearing equipment and expand surveillance capabilities in and around the strait, according to defense officials briefed on the requests, including one submitted earlier this month. The military also wants to quickly modify weapons systems on ships so they could be used against Iranian fast-attack boats, as well as shore-launched cruise missiles, the defense officials said.

The readiness push is spearheaded by the military's Central Command, which oversees U.S. forces in the Gulf region, these officials said. It shows the extent to which war planners are taking tangible steps to prepare for a possible conflict with Iran, even as top White House and defense leaders try to tamp down talk of war and emphasize other options.

The changes put a spotlight on what officials have singled out as potential U.S. shortcomings in the event of conflict with Iran. The head of Central Command, Marine Gen. James Mattis, asked for the equipment upgrades after reviews by war planners last spring and fall exposed "gaps" in U.S. defense capabilities and military preparedness should Tehran close the Strait of Hormuz, officials said. The Central Command reviews, in particular, have fueled concerns about the U.S. military's ability to respond swiftly should Iran mine the strait, through which nearly 20% of the world's traded oil passes. "When the enemy shows more signs of capability, we ask what we can do to checkmate it," a U.S. military officer said. "They ought to know we take steps to make sure we are ready." The U.S. Navy has been preparing to intensify operations in the Gulf amid Iran's threats to block the Strait of Hormuz. Officials said the Navy plans to deploy another aircraft carrier group in the region in March. "The group is now conducting training," an official said.

The planned carrier group was being led by the USS Enterprise. The Enterprise has been exercising off the coast of Florida to practice operations for Hormuz, the passage for 40 percent of the world's oil shipments. "There obviously is an emphasis on where we think the ship will go," Rear Adm. Dennis Fitzpatrick, commander of Strike Force Training Atlantic told The Navy Times.

The Navy has already deployed two carrier groups in the Gulf.

Officials said the exercise was focusing on how to counter Iran's fleet of fast attack craft, believed to contain anti-ship missiles. They said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, responsible for naval operations in the Gulf, has developed a swarm strategy to overcome large U.S. warships. (World Tribune; 2/10/12) Read more.

The FBI made it clear today that it's seriously concerned about a possible attack by Iran on U.S. soil. The FBI held a conference call Thursday involving all 56 FBI field offices and led by the bureau's chief of counter-terrorism, to discuss evidence that Iran may be casing potential targets. CBS This Morning correspondent John Miller, a former deputy director of the FBI, joined Scott Pelley, to discuss the potential Iranian threat and the latest developments in the intelligence community. Russia has warned a strike against Iran could have "catastrophic" consequences and urged leaders not to rush into any conclusions after this week's failed mission by UN nuclear experts. "The scenario of military action against Iran would be catastrophic for the region and possibly the whole system of international relations," Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told a news conference.

His comments came after a five-strong delegation from the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) left empty-handed following two days of talks focusing on suspected military aspects of the country's nuclear programme. Chief nuclear inspector Herman Nackaerts said the team "could not get access" during the visit to Iran's military site in Parchin where suspected nuclear warhead design experiments were conducted.

Russia has longstanding commercial and military ties with Iran and has condemned recent unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union over its suspected pursuit of nuclear arms. Mr Gatilov urged nations to wait for the IAEA's official report before deciding to condemn Iran for failing to cooperate with the agency. "I would not make any profound conclusions from the IAEA mission that dialogue failed and we reached a dead end," said Mr Gatilov. "We are not dramatising the situation."

The United States and its chief regional ally Israel have never ruled out a military strike against Iran over its controversial nuclear programme but Russia has always insisted the standoff can only be solved through diplomacy. Russia said it was particularly concerned that a strike against Iran could be launched from an air base the United States leases in Central Asia's ex-Soviet state of Kyrgyzstan. The US base at Manas is currently used as a key coalition hub for operations in nearby Afghanistan.

"It cannot be excluded that this site could be used in a potential conflict with Iran," foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told reporters. "We hope that such an apocalyptic scenario will not be realised." "The statements from Washington which do not rule out a military solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis have caused serious worries in the Central Asian region," he said. (The UK Telegraph) Read more.

- Dear Heavenly Father, as You know, Iran has been giving out open threats of annihilation of Your land and Your people, as well as towards other nations. Now Russia is speaking forth veiled warnings against any action to defeat or deflect the possibility of these threats from Iran being carried out. Lord, there is a blinding rage in the Iranian leaders, fueled by their apocalyptic beliefs that these actions must occur for their 'savior' to appear. It is like a bubbling pot so close to boiling over. Threats and counter threats keep rising, but defensive actions by Your Chosen people is totally misrepresented by and to the rest of the world. Guide Israel clearly as to when and how to respond, Lord, in Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.

- "But thus says the Lord: 'Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children. I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh, and they shall be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine. All flesh shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.'" (Isaiah 49:25-26)

The commander of NATO and U.S. forces says that all NATO personnel are being recalled from Afghan ministries following an attack at the Interior Ministry in Kabul. Gen. John Allen says staff are being recalled "for obvious force protection reasons." 60 Nations ask U.N. to enter in with peacekeeping mission

Obama on Friday declared the U.S. and its allies would use "every tool available" to stop the slaughter of innocent people in Syria, uttering his most forceful words to date in response to an increasingly grim crisis that has gripped the world. The president did not give specifics about what the U.S. or other countries would do to help.

"It is absolutely imperative for the international community to rally and send a clear message to President (Bashar) Assad that it is time for a transition," Obama said after a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. "It is time for that regime to move on. And it is time to stop the killing of Syrian citizens by their own government." The president added that nations cannot afford to be "bystanders" as the killing continues.

Obama spoke in Washington shortly after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton used strong language to denounce Russia and China for protecting Syria, and the president's language about the need for world unity was viewed as a similar condemnation of those two nations.

Obama said he was encouraged by developments out of Tunisia on Friday, where more than 60 nations, in a unified bloc, asked the United Nations to begin planning a civilian peacekeeping mission that would deploy after the Assad regime halts its brutal crackdown on the opposition. - Father, may God's perfect will be done; for safety for the CHRISTIANS on the land; and for wisdom for the U.N. as they enter in. Bring total transformation of thought, ideas and actions in those who are instrumental in bringing peace to Syria. Walk with the Christians, protecting them from the destructive forces in the land. Bring about solid change by binding the evil spirits working through the Moslem Brotherhood. By the blood and Name of Jesus.

- "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:8,9,3)

As diplomats attend a critical meeting in Tunisia to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down in the wake of attacks by his regime forces on his own people, a key group of U.S. senators suggested Friday that unmanned drones be used to document the reported atrocities.

"It has been reported that unmanned aerial vehicles are now being flown over Syria to monitor sites containing weapons of mass destruction and related materials. This is appropriate, but unmanned aerial vehicles should also be tasked to document attacks on Syrian civilians by Assad's forces and to enable the Syrian opposition to defend against them," said Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Lindsey Graham, R-SC. "We should rule out no option that could help save lives."

The trio, senior members of the Armed Services Committee, has been for some time calling for the U.S. to arm the opposition in war-torn Syria, a position that puts them at odds with the Obama Administration but one that received the hearty backing of the Saudi Foreign Minister in Tunis on Friday, as he attended the "Friends of Syria" gathering along with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and scores of other officials representing 60 countries and international organizations.

"I think it's an excellent idea," Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told reporters.

The senior U.S. lawmakers have, to date, refrained from outright criticism of the Obama Administration, but on Friday, they not only called for "vigorous American leadership," but warned, "We remain deeply concerned that our international diplomacy risks becoming divorced from the reality on the ground in Syria." - Abba Father, We come before You to ask that all that is hidden be exposed as to interaction with Syria's Assad, his nation and the rebels. We have heard not only of his monstrous acts but of horrific persecution and death of Christian believers by the rebel groups in this nation. There is so much violence and rage on both sides, Lord. Direct us how to pray and expose what is being done in 'darkness', Lord, so that the entire world can see it. Have mercy and draw to Yourself those that You would have come to Your Light, in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

Israel's Ambassador to the UN [United Nations] Ron Prosor warned the UN Security Council Tuesday [February 21] that Hezbollah's power base in western Africa is growing. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also expressed concern over the growing ties between the Shiite terror group and local African crime organizations.

Ban said that the association was threatening the region and may find its way into Latin America and Europe. Prosor told the Security Council that Israel could play a key role in the global fight against the infiltration of crime-backed terror activity into western Africa. He further offered the Israeli intelligence agencies' assistance in forming an international intelligence agency that would work to foil terror attacks worldwide. Prosor said that Hezbollah's grip on western Africa was part of a growing international trend in which criminals and terrorists join forces on drugs and arms trafficking.

The Israeli ambassador said that western Africa has become Hezbollah's powerbase in the region and a junction for running arms, drugs and money. "Israel is particularly concerned over Hezbollah's use of the area as a base of terror operations. Criminal initiatives bolster Hezbollah's efforts to create sleeper-cells in the area. The world can't stand idly by - this endangers more than just Africa but innocent lives the world over, as we have seen in New Delhi, Tbillsi, and Bangkok," he said.

Prosor suggested international collaboration on the matter: "We have to ensure that these criminals and terrorists are on every country's national and international watch list." (YnetNews)

- Pray that the spread of this terror organization will be stopped and that their hold on West Africa will be diminished and ineffective.

- "The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways."

Army Lt. Gen. Ronald L. Burgess, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, disclosed new details of China's space weapons programs last week, including information regarding China's anti-satellite missiles and cyber warfare capabilities. Burgess stated in little-noticed written testimony prepared for an appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee that Beijing is developing missiles, electronic jammers, and lasers for use against satellites.
Much of the space warfare activity is being carried out under the guise of China's supposedly non-military space program, he said.

"The space program, including ostensible civil projects, supports China's growing ability to deny or degrade the space assets of potential adversaries and enhances China's conventional military capabilities," Burgess said.

"China operates satellites for communications, navigation, earth resources, weather, and intelligence surveillance, and reconnaissance, in addition to manned space and space exploration missions," he said. (Free Beacon) Read more.

- Father God, only You can protect our own satellites from these weapons being developed by the Chinese. We ask You to forgive that nation for its deceptive ways, and we repent for the sin in our own nation, as well. Abba, we do not deserve Your mercy, but You are a God of Mercy, so we ask this now for our land, in Jesus; Name, amen.

- "To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it."
(Deuteronomy 10:14)

Hussein Obama began his occupancy of the White House by launching a world-wide apology tour, and he's still at it. Radical Islamists rioted in Afghanistan this week when word spread that U.S. troops at Bagram Air Force base had burned Korans. The Korans were disposed of after being confiscated from prisoners who were using them to spread jihadist messages.

Al Qaeda and the Taliban are stoking the violence, urging Afghans to attack and kill westerners in revenge for "insulting the Holy Koran." So far, nearly two dozen people have been killed, including two U.S. soldiers. They were gunned down by a member of the Afghan Army who acted on the Taliban's advice to local security forces to "turn their guns on the foreign infidel invaders."

Faced with such savagery, Hussein Obama did what comes naturally to him -- he apologized. In a letter to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Obama expressed his "deep regret," extended his "sincere apologies" and promised to hold "accountable those responsible" -- referring not to the rioters and murderers but to the soldiers who burned the Korans. Adding insult to injury, this letter was delivered to Karzai on the same day our two soldiers were killed.

I don't recall Obama apologizing to the Christians whose churches were firebombed by the radical Islamists in the new Egypt he helped to create. Where was Obama's apology for the Bibles that were burned in Afghanistan?

It is the Afghan government that should be apologizing to us for the mobs in the streets who are so filled with hate and ignorance! These riots and the deaths that have resulted are further evidence that radical Islam has a problem with violence. Of course, Israelis know this all too well. But too many in the West simply cannot fathom it, and our own leaders are to blame.

In the wake of 9/11 and the bombings in London, Madrid, Bali and Beslan, too many politicians rushed to tell us that terrorism had nothing to do with Islam. That is utter nonsense, akin to saying that World War II had nothing to do with fascism or Nazism. It has everything to do with Islam, and the terrorists admit it when they scream "Allahu Akbar" before blowing themselves up! (Gary Bauer)

- Our Mighty God, we are distressed at the double-minded way the man in the Oval Office handles such a volatile situation as the Koran burning. We speak the mind of Christ to him instead and ask that You would take over this matter to defuse it and save lives. We come against the condemnation of Americans and the bowing to the demands of Islam. Lord, keep a guard over the Christians in the Middle East as they face life threatening situations everyday. We pray for our officials to start demanding fair treatment for believers in this dangerous region of the world. In Jesus" Name, amen.

- "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." (James 1:8)

"An oracle concerning Damascus: 'See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,' declares the LORD Almighty." (Isa 17:1-3)

God judges nations. And though commentators hold different views regarding the exact meaning and timing of this "Oracle of Doom" over Damascus, the overarching prophetic message of this portion of Isaiah's ministry conveys a clear expression of God's wrath, judgments, and retribution over Judah's numerous enemies.

Historically, being one of the oldest cities in the world, Damascus has never experienced such utter and total devastation as Isaiah prophesies. Yet, it is within the scope of God's sovereignty and dominion to bring about one more phase of this prophetic promise that is yet to be fulfilled. The only question is when and how, for every word of God must come to pass. As our Lord Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (Matt 24:35)

The Northern Front

Our friend Frank Amedia ( recently exhorted us that while the world's attention is on Iran with its unbridled nuclear ambitions, war mongering rhetoric, and defiant activities, the intercessors MUST also focus on Syria, Israel's northern and aggressive neighbor. For months now, the totalitarian Syrian regime that is controlled by the Alawite minority has been under fierce domestic assault as the Syrian public is following the example of anti-government revolutions throughout the Middle East known as the "Arab Spring."

The Alawite regime responded swiftly to this civil unrest with a tough policy aimed at crushing the popular uprising by military show of strength with tanks and missiles smashing into civilian neighborhoods. Conservative estimates tell us that the Syrian population suffered thousands of casualties from the hands of its own government in recent months and weeks. There is no end in sight as the battles continue to rage from city to city, and Damascus itself, the government's seat of power, is beginning to feel the heat. . .

A Diversion?

The Alawite's time appears to be up now as the domestic and international pressures rise daily. Their options to suppress the unrest and avoid being lynched by the mob are diminishing with each passing day, and the Spirit of God is warning that the Syrian Alawite regime, desperately clinging to power, may resort to play its last card soon which is to attack Israel as a diversion.

This option has proven itself in the past. The Arab world, divided and internally tormented by violent religious sectarianism, can always unite and come together in brief accord when the cause is to defeat the Zionist enemy! It will happen again, and Syria's tottering regime may just be distressed enough to try and trump its internal unrest and political disintegration with the only card left, attacking Israel.

We do not pretend to know the future, but we do honor God's word which says, "Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. The lion has roared - who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken - who can but prophesy?" (Amos 3:7-8) Keep your eyes on Syria, and watch and pray with us please.

The HHS Mandate and Religious Freedom

The National Clergy Council, representing church leaders of Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox, and Protestant church traditions, has declared a State of Emergency for the Churches in response to the order by Obama for religious organizations to compromise their religious and moral beliefs by complying with a mandate to provide employees with certain forms of insurance coverage.

In recent days, Jewish rabbis have joined all Catholic bishops in the United States in expressing alarm over Obama's "healthcare" mandates and other violations of the Constitution. The National Clergy Council deliberated for the last week on what it would do, consulting pastors, moral theologians, organizational executives and activists from around the U.S. As a result, the Reverend Rob Schenck, president of the Washington, DC based group, began the holy season of Lent 2012 by appealing to Obama for answers with a "State of Emergency and Time for Speaking" declaration that was hand-delivered to the White House on Ash Wednesday morning, February 22, 2012.

Speaking for the Council, Rev. Schenck says in his communiqué to Obama, "[W]e state to you our unwavering position on the sanctity of our constitutionally protected right to espouse certain principles of conscience; and, we maintain and insist on our God-given, moral rights to act upon these principles of conscience within our respective institutions and in keeping with their attendant prerogatives; Furthermore, while we hope for a resolution to this crisis that includes the rescinding of your directives, we must hold to our convictions and positions and act according to our prerogatives no matter the legal, social, pecuniary, or political consequences." (Intercessors for America)

- Pray that this unconstitutional threat to the freedom of religion will be overturned. Pray for a strong and unified voice regarding the attack on the sanctity of life that this current administration is attempting to force upon the Church and nation. Ask the Lord to expose any plan that threatens the lives of our unborn. Ask for God's sovereign authority to rule over this most grievous provocation.

"For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mothers womb... Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be." (Psalm 139:13, 16)

The Supreme Court has announced it will allow a full six hours for oral arguments over constitutional challenges to Obama's health care law, granting the case the longest hearing in recent history.

The justices said yesterday that they would lengthen the hearing by an additional 30 minutes, after both the administration and parties challenging the law had asked the court to spend not 60 but 90 minutes on a tax law known as the Anti-Injunction Act.

The question is whether the act stands in the way of judicial action on the challenge until after the health care law goes into effect.

With the extra 30 minutes, the court is slated to spend 90 minutes on the Anti-Injunction Act, 120 minutes on the law's individual mandate that all Americans purchase health insurance, 90 minutes on whether just parts of the act can be invalidated while allowing other parts to stand, and an hour on the Medicaid expansion contained in the new law over a three-day period in March.

The core of the law is a requirement that most people buy health insurance by 2014 or face a tax penalty. But looming over the case is a federal policy that restricts the timing of lawsuits connected to the assessment and collection of "any tax."

When the law was passed in March 2010, Obama and his supporters covered up the fact by avoiding to call the penalty a "tax." But it is contained in the Tax Code and would be collected by the Internal Revenue Service. The Internal Revenue Service's job is to collect taxes.

On the first day of their historic session March 26-28, the justices will consider that policy and address whether people who challenge the insurance requirement must first pay the disputed tax and seek a refund before bringing a lawsuit. If the answer is yes, the legal fight over a key part of the law could be delayed, possibly until 2015.

Politico reported that the federal government, 26 states and a small-business group jointly requested that the court spend 90 minutes, instead of 60 minutes, on whether the tax law would prevent the court from ruling on the constitutionality of the mandate until at least 2015.
The oral arguments will break down this way:

* Anti-Injunction Act: 90 minutes
* Individual mandate: 120 minutes
* Severability: 90 minutes
* Medicaid: 60 minutes (Contributor: The Washington Times, Politico, USA Today)

- Pray that justice is rightly served to all Americans. There are many issues with this attempted corruption of America's medical system by the Obama Administration. Pray that we as a nation are not forced into paying for abortions or any other medical procedures against our will.

- "Listen to me, O Islands, and pay attention you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother He named me. And now says the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be His servant . . . " (Isaiah 49:1,5a)

Three new lawsuits were filed this week challenging the HHS mandate that will require all health plans to cover abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives, and sterilization, at no cost to the patient. The new lawsuits-filed by Louisiana College, Geneva College, and Ave Maria University-allege that a mandate forcing the schools to provide faculty, staff, and students with insurance that covers services to which they have religious and moral objections violates their constitutionally-protected religious freedoms. The schools assert that the purported "accommodation" announced by President Obama on February 10th does not allay their fears, as the new arrangement is simply an accounting gimmick will still force them to indirectly fund the objectionable services. Additionally, the actual "accommodation" offered by the President is merely a press release at this point, as the idea has not yet taken shape in rules or guidance issued by the Administration. The HHS mandate is not an isolated incident; it is another example of a recurring hostility towards individuals wishing to exercise their constitutionally-protected religious freedoms. - God, those that make their boast of the law, through breaking the law, dishonor God, Himself. For the Name of God is blasphemed by all that is involved in this HHS mandate. Father, let them be ashamed and confounded that impose this recurring hostility towards individuals wishing to exercise their constitutionally-protected religious freedom. God, break in pieces the yokes from off our necks and burst all bonds that harness the people to lawlessness and sinful packs. Send your angels with flaming swords to fight our battles in the heavens. Deliver us from evil. In the Name of Jesus.

- "Keep us as the apple of the eye; hide us under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked that oppress us, from our deadly enemies, who compass us about."

Seven states filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration today seeking to overturn the mandate that religious employers provide contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients to their employees as part of their health care plans. The state attorneys general of Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas filed suit today in U.S. District Court, arguing that the mandate violates both the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. All seven plaintiffs are Republicans.

"Religious liberty is America's first freedom," said Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette in a statement e-mailed to "Constitutional rights cannot be finessed. Religious liberty cannot be compromised. Any rule, regulation or law that forces faith-based institutions to provide for services that violate their free exercise of religion, or that penalizes them for failing to kneel at the altar of government, is a flat-out violation of the First Amendment." Action Expected on Senate Floor This Week

Last August, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a list of "preventive services for women" to be mandated in almost all private health plans under the new health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The mandated services include sterilization, all FDA-approved birth control (such as the IUD, Depo-Provera, 'morning-after' pills, and the abortion-inducing drug Ella), and "education and counseling" to promote these among all "women of reproductive capacity." HHS's rule allowed only a very narrow exemption for a "religious employer." Catholic organizations providing education, health care and charitable services to all in need could not qualify for the exemption.

On February 10, despite a storm of protest, President Obama adopted this policy as a final rule "without change" (Federal Register, 2/15/12, 8725). Religious organizations that cannot qualify for the exemption will have an extra year to comply; but before the end of that period, an additional rule will be issued to make sure that their employees receive the mandated coverage despite the employer's objection.

In a February 15 letter to the Senate, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities, wrote: "In short, we are back to square one -- except that the rule so many hoped would change to accommodate Americans' right of conscience is no longer subject to change, except by legislation."

The need for action is unchanged. Congress must pass, and the President sign, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act. This measure will ensure that those who participate in the health care system "retain the right to provide, purchase, or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs and moral convictions." Members of Congress should be urged to support this measure and work for its passage. (NCHLA) Go here.

- First the colleges, then the states, and now Congress is drawing a line in the sand against the unconstitutional HHS mandate violating our religious freedom and our conscience protection. This is America -- a nation where the state does not have the right to tell you what to do; but where individual citizens are free to chart their own course. Pray for passage of Senator Blunt's bill this week. PRAY.

- "Your troops will be willing on your day of battle." (Psalm 110:3)

The Congress was officially in recess this past week and will return to Capitol Hill on February 27th.. Some reality here - Congressmen work seven days a week. When not on Capitol Hill they work from offices in their districts. For example, there is only one congressman for all of North Dakota and he must travel the entire vast state to visit constituent offices. When not working on Capitol Hill or dealing with constituents in their districts, they are raising funds for re-election. The media loves to blast congressmen for "doing nothing" but the reality is that they put in twice the hours of any news man reporting on them. (Religious Freedom Coalition)

- We want to thank William Murray for clearing up this common misconception: that when Congress is in recess, they are not working. Indeed, only the opposite is true! Pray that, in spite of the failings of some in the House and the Senate, the American people would yet grant these hard-working men and women the honor due to them. Pray!

- "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
(I Timothy 2:1,2)

President Obama met with a group of Democratic governors on Friday and discussed plans to work around Congress toward "policy goals".  Gov. Jack Markell, Governor of Delaware, and Vice-Chairman of the National Governor's Assoc., told "The Hill" that the governors were responsive to ideas about bypassing Congress and "There was a sense that none of us should wait, we can't wait for things to happen in Congress, we're going to do what we can do [now]".  Obama has positioned himself against Congress as he runs for re-election, arguing lawmakers are failing to solve the country's problems.  "Where Congress won't act, I will" he said in October, when rolling out a series of executive orders aimed at creating jobs." The sense in the room was that focusing on jobs is the Democrats' best chance to win in the fall.

The meeting, which lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, took place in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and involved more than a dozen Democratic governors and several members of the Obama administration. Governors present included Govs. Jerry Brown (Calif.), Jay Nixon (Mo.), O'Malley, Christine Gregoire (Wash.), Bev Perdue (N.C.), Peter Shumlin (Vt.), Neil Abercrombie (Hawaii), Deval Patrick (Mass.) and Pat Quinn (Ill.). (The Hill) Read more.

- Our precious Father, and Lawgiver, we thank You for bringing this news item to our attention.  Father, if this does not violate the "letter of the law" in our Constitution, it certainly violates the "spirit of the law".  It seems that these Governors, who are supposed to uphold the Law, would rather skirt around it, for their own selfish purposes, in order to hold onto and gain more power, at the expense of the needy. We ask that You divinely "interrupt" their plans, and make known to all the electorate the spirits of lawlessness, and greed for power, these governors are willing to entertain to achieve their own purposes...and not to honor the people they represent.  We bind up those spirits, and speak confusion into their "less than honorable" plans. Amen!

  - "Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness." (Matthew 23:28)

The United States will soon suffer a catastrophic cyber attack if it doesn't act now to prevent it, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee warned.

CBS News reported this week that the FBI issued a cyber warning. Estonian hackers have infected millions of PCs across the U.S. with "malware," which could lead the FBI to take the drastic and unprecedented measure of cutting off some people's Internet access on March 8. Fortunately, there's still time to see if you're affected and take action before that deadline.

"The clock is ticking and winding down," Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, said at a hearing on the security threats facing the United States. Speaking to the nation's top intelligence officials, Rogers said that, "given classified briefings that we've had, discussions with all of you and your counterparts that a cyber attack is on its way. We will suffer a catastrophic cyber attack."
The committee's top Democrat, Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland, said foreign governments - in particular China and Russia - steal American intellectual property to gain a competitive edge.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper accused China of "the greatest pillaging of wealth in history, if you tote up the value of the intellectual property that has been stolen."

The urgency and severity of the problem was also echoed by FBI Director Robert Mueller. "The cyberthreat will equal or surpass the threat from counterterrorism in the foreseeable future," he said. Both Rogers and Ruppersberger said now is the time for Congress to act and pass cybersecurity legislation. (H.R. 3523) [Intercessors for America]

- Pray that our national leaders will have a good understanding of how best to protect our internet infrastructure and networks. Ask the Lord to place His hand of protection over our national internet communication systems.

- "The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore." (Psalm 121:8)

During the Senate's major hearing on cybersecurity last week, Senator John McCain, a Republican from Arizona, announced that the Republicans in the Senate would introduce a bill to compete with S. 2105, also known as the Cybersecurity Act of 2012.

McCain seeks to give the NSA and the military previously unimaginable powers over civilian networks, even further expanding the ludicrous power over American citizens given to the military under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA).
McCain says that while the legislation would force the DHS to enlarge its mission and size in order to meet the mandates of the bill, the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) already have the resources and know-how to meet the mandates. The problem here is that the NSA and the military, which USCYBERCOM is part of, currently do not have the legal authority to go in and secure civilian networks.

So, McCain seeks to introduce legislation to change that, giving the military even more unprecedented powers over civilians in the United States. (The Intel Hub)

- Father, we come against this new bill being proposed that would only shift the work of spying on civilians from a federal agency to the military. We come against this way of seeking out dangerous citizens as it violates our basic rights. It could so easily be used to spy on political opponents and this bill does nothing about that. Father, we pray for mercy on our country.

- "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you." (Matthew 24:4)

The Obama administration did an about-face concerning military policy and the federal Defense of Marriage Act on Friday, when Attorney General Eric Holder informed Congress the Department of Justice will not stand in the way of any service members' same-sex spouses suing the military for spousal benefits.

Holder wrote that he has determined that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) - the federal law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman - violates the equal protection clause of the First Amendment.

"The President and I have concluded that classification based on sexual orientation should be subject to a heightened standard of constitutional scrutiny under equal protection principles and (DOMA) fails such scrutiny as applied to couples who are legally married under state law," he wrote. (CitizenLink)

- God, we intently pray that this reversal of not standing pat on the Defense of Marriage Act will be pulled down by the very hands of God. May Congress vote to uphold DOMA and our country still remain a strong supporter of the federal law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We ask for a miracle from God regarding this issue. In the mighty Name of Jesus.

- "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due."
(Romans 1:27)

Defies Obama's Medicaid cut-off threat

At the direction of lawmakers and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, the Texas Health and Human Services commissioner signed a rule on Thursday that formally bans Planned Parenthood clinics and other "affiliates of abortion providers" from participating in the program - something the Obama administration has said is a deal-breaker for the nearly $40 million-per-year state-federal Medicaid program.

The rule, signed by Commissioner Tom Suehs on Thursday, takes effect March 14.

"We have a state law that our Attorney General says is constitutional, and it clearly bans abortion providers from taking part in the Women's Health Program. We can't violate a perfectly valid state law just to appease Washington. We hope CMS will reverse its position and allow the program to continue."

Cervical cancer is primarily caused by the Human papillomavirus, an incurable STD. And if women stopped getting abortions and taking artificial steroids (birth control pills), breast cancer would decrease dramatically. (The Texas Tribune) Read more.

- Father, we are ecstatic and eternally grateful for this answer to prayer!! We thank You that the Texas Legislature has chosen God over mammon, and we thank You in advance for releasing the provision for the needs of the State and we decree that nothing will stop this law from taking effect on March 14. We ask that many States will follow the example of the State of Texas.

- ". . .The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16b)

Among the biggest threats to the family budget right now are skyrocketing energy prices, and the White House is clearly worried. Yesterday, Obama flew to the key swing state of Florida, where motorists are feeling the pinch of some of the highest gas prices in the country.

And what hope did the president give to struggling families? Virtually none. In fact, Obama actually mocked the idea of drilling for more oil. He told the audience, "Anybody who tells you that we can drill our way out of this problem doesn't know what they're talking about, or just isn't telling you the truth."

Yet more and more experts believe that U.S. energy independence is possible in the next ten years if -- and it is a big if -- Obama and his radical environmentalist allies aren't calling the shots. (Gary Bauer)

- Father, we continue to come before Your throne of grace to ask for a transformed heart for the President of the USA. We ask that he will turn from looking toward systems and ideologies created by man, to the only system that works, the one created by the only true God. We ask that You prepare the hearts of those who follow him to receive the truth, and that every hidden agenda behind this policy as well as others would be brought to the light.

- "Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed; and hid that shall not be known."
(Matthew 10:26)

The Obama administration is starting to shut down a program that deputized local police officers to act as immigration agents. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have trained local officers around the country to act as their agencies' immigration officers. Working either in jails or in the field, the officers can check the immigration status of suspects and place immigration holds on them. The program, known as 287(g), reached its peak under President George W. Bush, when 60 local agencies signed contracts with ICE to implement it. But that trend slowed significantly under President Obama- only eight agencies have signed up since he took office, and none has done so since August 2010.

Now, in their proposed budget for the upcoming year, Department of Homeland Security officials say they will not sign new contracts for 287(g) officers working in the field and will terminate the "least productive" of those agreements - saving an estimated $17 million. All the contracts between ICE and local police agencies run for three years, so that portion of the program could be finished by November when the last contract for field officers expires.

The main complaint Friday from groups that oppose 287(g) was that the program isn't being terminated immediately, and that its replacement - Secure Communities - is not much better. "The 287(g) program has been repeatedly called into question by advocates as well as the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general, and should be terminated rather than sustained with taxpayer money," said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum. "The Secure Communities program is surrounded by grave concerns about the impact to public safety, community policing and civil rights abuses."

Defenders of the program, such as Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies, say Homeland Security is "putting politics ahead of public safety" by cutting back the 287(g) program. She said Secure Communities is helpful but that local officers working in the field are better able to identify illegal immigrants who may not have their fingerprints in federal databases, making it harder to identify them. She said some agencies such as the Colorado Department of Public Safety have used their 287(g) officers to suppress drug and human smuggling, gang activity and identity theft and said many sheriffs and police chiefs prefer the program to Secure Communities. "The problem for ICE is that while they may feel that they get political brownie points for this kind of gesture, in reality what the anti-enforcement groups want is for them to end 287(g) and Secure Communities, not curtail (them)," said Vaughan, director of policy studies for the center. "So it's futile - they end up making everyone on both sides angry." (USA Today) Read more.

- Dear Lord, we come to You to ask that You change political correctness in Washington DC concerning reasonable attempts to curb illegal immigration. We pray for effective programs to be reinstated and the voices for irresponsible policy to be silenced.

Targets Ammunition - Not Guns With over 10 million guns sold in the United States in 2011, violent crime rising significantly as the economic crisis worsens, and self defense killings sky rocketing, it's becoming increasingly unpopular for politicians to call for restrictions on firearms. If anything, even though government officials in states like Illinois and New Jersey are attempting to outlaw guns completely, the public outcry has been deafening, with each attempt met by protests and solidarity from individual rights and gun advocates all over the country. It's clear that the majority of Americans support their inherent right to bear arms. But, even though the strategy of attacking our second Amendment is wholly unpopular and failing miserably, misguided government officials are beginning to explore ever more novel ways of circumventing the US Constitution and Second Amendment altogether. Like New Jersey's recent attempt to ban ammunition, Illinois is now taking aim at ammo. (Buchanan Report) Read more.

- Father these ill-advised attempts at gun control only serve to prevent law-abiding citizens from obtaining and using guns to protect their families. This "targeting" of ammunition is just another in a series of government intrusions against the 2nd Amendment. We pray that this attempt will fail miserably. We ask that the citizens of the states that have introduced this legislation will rise up and stand against this plan.

- "From that day on, half of my men did the work while the other held spears, shields, bows, and armor. The officers supported all the people of Judah who were rebuilding the wall. The laborers who carried the loads worked with one hand and held a weapon with the other."

Will Other States Soon Follow in this Initiative?

CHEYENNE-The Wyoming House of Representatives on Monday advanced legislation to launch a study into what Wyoming should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States. . . House Bill 85 would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.

The task force also would look at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed.

The bill's sponsor, state Rep. David Miller, R-Riverton, has said he doesn't anticipate any major crises hitting America anytime soon. But with the national debt exceeding $15 trillion and protest movements growing around the country, Miller said Wyoming - which has a comparatively good economy and sound state finances - needs to make sure it's protected should any unexpected emergency hit the U.S.

HB85 must now pass a final House vote before heading over to the Senate for consideration.

- Just as individuals and families need to be prepared in the event of a disaster, so should our governments do at the state level. Pray that the news will travel quickly across this great nation -- particularly now, when state legislatures are in session -- so that others will follow the lead of the State of Wyoming. Wisdom is to be prepared!

- "Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path."

This Week, Worship Our Lord As . . .

GOD OF JACOB (Elohay Yahahkov)

"May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you." (Psalm 20:1)

There is only One who knows my thoughts, who hears my heart, who can answer my prayers. The same God who led Jacob is the same God who leads me. There is much comfort in knowing YOU, God of Jacob. Amen.
