The Daily Brief Tuesday, May 22, 2012

"Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 'Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.' He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision."
(Psalm 2:1-4)

The Daily Brief

1. $12,984--Increase in Debt Per Household Since First 2011 Bipartisan Spending Deal - CNS News

The White House and the congressional leaders of both parties in Congress have begun maneuvering this week over the issue of the federal debt and what to do when the government hits the latest statutory limit on that debt -- $16.394 trillion -- which Congress and the president agreed to when they cut a deal on the debt limit last August.

- Lord, we ask You for help with our debt problems. Debt puts us in bondage, and we pray for freedom. We pray leaders will repent, and turn to You for wisdom in solving our problems. May the rich use their money righteously. We pray that we will again become lenders and not borrowers through Your mercy and provision. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

2. Obama at G8: We are united on Iran - Ynet News

The fact that Iran has violated international regulations and is far from proving that it is not trying to achieve nuclear weapons capability is "very worrying for all of us," US President Barack Obama said Saturday at the G8 meeting at Camp David.

- Lord, whatever has been said or done at the G8 meeting we lift into Your hands. May words of worth and wisdom be remembered, and all others fall into non memories. May the world wake up to realize that You are the Deliverer. In the name of Jesus, Our Deliverer, we pray. Amen.

- There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord. (Proverbs 21: 30-31)

3. Fitch Says Top 29 Banks May Need $556 Billion
- CNBC

The world's top 29 banks may need a total $556 billion to meet tougher new capital rules, cutting returns by a fifth and forcing them to curb investor payouts and raise customer charges, Fitch Ratings said on Thursday.

- Lord, we pray for our banks and banking system - and the rules governing them - to come into alignment with right, just, and godly monetary principles. You say much about money in the Holy Bible, so we pray that people will become aware of and follow Your principles. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:9-10)

4. Medvedev Warns of 'Full-Blown Wars'
- RIA Novosti

Military intervention in the sovereign affairs of other states may lead to outright war, including nuclear war, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.

- Lord, we see many signs of the end times and your return. We will continue to watch and pray about these signs and for guidance from You in the affairs of our states, nations, and other nations. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."
(Matthew 24:3-8)

5. Pentagon Study Says China Military Getting Stronger - NY Times

China is pressing a long-range modernization of its military, part of a strategy aimed at maximizing its leverage over Taiwan, extending its influence farther abroad, but avoiding conflict around its borders or with the United States, the Pentagon said on Friday in an annual report to Congress.

- Lord, we pray for China and those who are being affected by that nation's increasing influence. We pray for deliverance. Let us not be ignorant and say we did not know this. Help us to see coming dangers and to know how to pray accordingly. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- "Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, "Surely we did not know this," Does not He who weights the hearts consider it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds? "
(Proverbs 24: 11-12)

Beast government, privacy, control and you

Did you know that the man who occupies the Oval Office has admitted to approving some 63 sites across America for the launching of drones to spy on Americans? Did you know that Republicans and Democrats passed legislation allowing for the use of drones to spy on Americans, and the president has signed it into law? Did you know that over 300 police departments have requested authority to use drones to spy on you? The federal government, according to Word Net Daily, "already has issued 78 certificates for commercial drone operations, along with 273 active government licenses." When people wonder how a beast government could control the people, pieces of it are coming into clear vision.

Revelation 13:16-17 speaks of the beast: "And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." To many it is beyond imagination how such a thing would be enforced. Here in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave, one nation under God, we are seeing first hand how an end time beast government can begin bearing down on a free people. Just in 2012, the number of presidential Executive Orders working in conjunction with Congressional legislation has given us a type and shadow of the fragility of freedom.

Every time I write about the beast, the government of the end times, I am deluged with various theories regarding who this beast is, what it is, who Mystery Babylon is, etc. Many chastise me for not agreeing with their theories. The Jot ministry is a Bible based ministry. We do not go by what is taught by prideful men who wish to superimpose their beliefs over the nature of YHVH. We go by what the Bible actually says. If you do not agree with what I write regarding this beast, then read your Bible and study more. Don't take anyone's word for it. Not even mine. Trust, but verify. But know this: We are now witnessing how technology could be used to establish and enforce one world government and one world religion.

The Democratic and Republican ruling class have approved a violation of your right to privacy. Drones will soon be used to minimize the government's risk of political dissent, and maximize your risk if you dissent. Already, the president is using emergency powers to justify confiscating property of those who disagree with his Yemen policy. There are so many violations of Constitutional rights and Constitutional dictates as the supreme law of the land, that this Congress and this Administration may have to resort to drones to keep the people in line. It just so happens these actions also fold into the march of prophecy. So do we. Unless we begin to refuse to cooperate with those who are acting out satan's plans.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Catholics Fight Mandate

Cardinals Flock to Court to Fight Mandate

Nothing seems to stand in the way of President Obama's political agenda--not Congress, not the Constitution, and certainly not the church. When he ordered faith-based groups to turn their backs on church teachings and fund life-destroying drugs, the White House was asking for a fight. And yesterday, they got it. After months of trying to negotiate, the Catholic Church bombarded the Department of Health and Human Services with 12 lawsuits, representing an army of dioceses, hospitals, schools, and charities across eight states and the District of Columbia. A total of 43 entities--including Catholic powerhouses like Notre Dame, Catholic University, Catholic Charities, the entire Archdiocese of New York and Washington, D.C.--will fight to end the strangling of religious freedom in America.

With the first wave of mandate rules scheduled to take effect on August 1, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said, "Time is running out, and our valuable ministries and fundamental rights hang in the balance. We have to resort to the courts now." Even the Fighting Irish, who once invited President Obama to speak at their university, recognize what's at stake: "[I]f one presidential administration... can use religious organizations to advance policies that undercut our values, then surely another administration will do the same for another very different set of policies, each time invoking some concept of popular will or the public good, with the result these religious organizations become mere tools for the exercise of government power, morally subservient to the state, and not free from its infringements. If that happens, it will be the end of religious organizations."

Never in the history of our nation has the federal government reached into the church and imposed its will over the protest of the faithful. "When did the government get into the business of defining for us the extent of our ministry?" Cardinal Dolan wanted to know. This isn't about birth control. It's about government control. And every time religious freedom conflicts with this administration's agenda, freedom seems to lose. Together, America's faith community is rising up to say "enough!" If this President wants to drive religion out of the public square, then his administration will have to go through thousands of priests, pastors, and rabbis first. They understand, as we do, that this war has implications--not just for religious liberty--but for every liberty. If the church can be conscripted to advance a liberal political agenda, then anyone can. "At the deepest level, we are witnessing an attack on the institutions of civil society that are essential to limited government," writes Mary Ann Glendon, "and are important buffers between the citizen and the all-powerful state."

FRC will continue to stand and fight alongside church leaders like Cardinal Dolan who refuse to surrender their most fundamental right-to live and exercise faith without compromise. (Family Research Council)

Teachers Gone Wild

A recording of a North Carolina high school student being verbally abused by his social studies teacher has gone viral. In the recording, the student and teacher engage in a debate about the election.

It quickly turns heated, and the teacher warns the student that he can be arrested. Did the student threaten the teacher or the safety of other students? No. According to the social studies teacher, the student was being disrespectful toward Barack Obama.

Of course, you can't be arrested for merely criticizing the president of the United States, and I have to assume that this social studies teacher knew better. Her threat was likely an attempt to silence the student. In response to the teacher's bullying, the school district has suspended the teacher -- with pay. In other words, she got a vacation! Today's Legislative Focus

From The Madison Project

www.madisonproject.com

Fellow conservative patriots,

The House is out of session for the next week, but the Senate will convene for four days before the Memorial Day recess. While most people are focused on the economy and domestic issues, national security and the military will begin to take a front seat as the Senate starts work on the annual National Defense Authorization Act.

For Liberty.

The Honorable Jim Ryun
Chairman, The Madison Project

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

We've been critical of the tepid Republican leadership in the House over the past few months in these pages. But we must say that they did a good job, for the most part, spearheading passage of the defense authorization bill (H.R. 4310) last week. The bill repealed the sequester cuts to the military that would go into effect next year, while replacing them with cuts in domestic programs. Moreover, it contained some good policy riders. Now the bill moves to the Senate where the Armed Services Committee will conduct a markup this week.

Conservative Concerns:

- The Cost: The House bill would authorize a total discretionary budget authority of $637 billion for FY2013, $3.6 billion above the President's budget request. In this case, we need the higher levels of funding. The military has already incurred $500 billion in cuts, and the House bill ensures that there is no further strain on the military. We must block any attempts by the Senate to cut that level of funding.

- START: In 2010, the Democrats and a bunch of RINOs helped ratify START, Vladimir Putin's treaty that would unilaterally disarm us of our nuclear arsenal. Last week, Congressman Dennis Rehberg proposed an amendment to ensure that the START treaty will not harm our national security. Specifically, it would suspend the nuclear weapons reductions prescribed in the treaty unless the President certifies to Congress that: 1) the Russia Federation must make a commensurate reduction, conversion, or decommissioning pursuant to the levels set forth under such treaty; and 2) Russia is not developing or deploying nuclear delivery systems not covered by New START limits. The amendment also protects all three legs of the nuclear triad from elimination. The Rehberg amendment passed with support of almost the entire Republicans Conference. We must ensure that the Senate does not jettison this provision from the bill.

- Law of Sea Treaty (LOST): Another big issue that came up through the amendment process was the defunding of the "Law of the Sea Treaty." Among other things, LOST established a UN oversight board to divvy up all of the resources mined from the deep seabed and the extended continental shelf for the "common heritage of mankind." The International Seabed Authority gets to decide how our revenues from seabed mining are redistributed to "developing" nations. Moreover, any complaint against the US brought by other member nations, which there undoubtedly would be many, must be decided by the UN authority. The institution has been around since 1982, but we have been smart enough not to ratify the treaty.

The Obama administration, and not surprisingly, the Chamber of Commerce, are supporting a move towards ratifying LOST. If ratified, we would be forced to give up much of the royalties from oil drilling off our coasts. Congressman Jeff Duncan and Jim Jordan proposed an amendment to deny any funding for implementation of LOST. The amendment passed 229-193. We must demand that the Senate show the same degree of respect for our sovereignty. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing on the bill (10 a.m. Wednesday, 419 Dirksen) and will provide us with some clarity as to where the members stand on this harmful treaty

- Detainees: The House version of the bill contains unambiguous language that bars the military from indefinitely detaining any American or legal immigrant who is caught on American soil on charges of suspected terrorism. At the same time, the law allows the military to continue to detain foreign terrorists at Guantanamo Bay without being subjected to the restrictions of the domestic legal judicial review process. We must be vigilant against efforts of Senate Democrats, at the behest of the ACLU and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), to hamstring our intelligence agencies from combating international terror.
Punchline:

The NDAA will not make it to the Senate floor until after Memorial Day, but there will be substantial committee action this week (2:30 p.m. Wednesday; 9:30 a.m. Thursday; 9:30 a.m. Friday, 222 Russell). It is important that Senate Republicans stand in solidarity with their counterparts in the House on the aforementioned contentious issues. All too often, Senate Republicans have sided with fellow Senate Democrats in committee on points of contention with the House. Please call these members of the Armed Services Committee and get them to take a stand on these important issues that affect our national security.

Fukushima Reactor 4 poses massive global risk

Japan isn't out of the woods yet and the worst nuclear storm the world has ever seen could be just one earthquake away from reality.

The troubled Reactor 4 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is at the centre of this potential catastrophe. Reactor 4 -- and to a lesser extent Reactor 3 -- still hold large quantities of cooling waters surrounding spent nuclear fuel, all bound by a fragile concrete pool located 30 metres above the ground, and exposed to the elements.

A magnitude 7 or 7.5 earthquake would likely fracture that pool, and disaster would ensue, says Arnie Gundersen, a nuclear engineer with Fairewinds Energy Education who has visited the site.

The 1,535 spent fuel rods would become exposed to the air and would likely catch fire, with the most-recently added fuel rods igniting first. The incredible heat generated from that blaze, Gundersen said, could then ignite the older fuel in the cooling pool, causing a massive oxygen-eating radiological fire that could not be extinguished with water.

"So the fear is the newest fuel could begin to burn and then we'd have a conflagration of the whole pool because it would become hotter and hotter. The health consequences of that are beyond where science has ever gone before," Gundersen told CTVNews.ca in an interview from his home in Vermont.

Worst-case scenario:

There are a couple of possible outcomes, Gundersen said.

Highly radioactive cesium and strontium isotopes would likely go airborne and "volatilize" -- turning into a vapour that could move with the wind, potentially travelling thousands of kilometres from the source. The size of those particles would determine whether they remained in Japan, or made their way to the rest of Asia and other continents.

"And here's where there's no science because no one's ever dared to attempt the experiment," Gundersen said. "If it flies far enough it goes around the world, if the particles stay a little bigger, they settle in Japan. Either is awful."

Essentially, he said, Japan is sitting on a ticking time bomb.(Read more)

P.M. Netanyahu: Our capital will never be divided

Remarks on Jerusalem Day

Jerusalem will remain the united capital of the Jewish people, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Sunday at the ceremony on Ammunition Hill marking 45 years since the city's unification.

Netanyahu recounted recent visits to centuries-old synagogues in Prague and Amsterdam, pointing out that they, like synagogues around the world, face Jerusalem, symbolizing the Jewish people's past and its home for the future.

"We will protect Jerusalem, because Israel without Jerusalem is like a body without a heart," the prime minister said. "On this hill, 45 years ago, the united heart of our people began to beat again, with full power. Our heart will never be divided again."

Giving up on a united Jerusalem would show weakness to our enemies, he explained, saying that a body that would give up its heart could not fight for anything.

IDF soldiers fought like lions 45 years ago, because they were fighting for Jerusalem, he said, and they changed history forever.

"Our generation had a great privilege - we saw the words of the prophets come true," he declared. "We saw the rise of Zion, the return of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel, the in-gathering of exiles, and our return to Jerusalem."

Netanyahu called for the "revolution" to be preserved.

"This is the place in which our past was revealed and our future is built," he said. "We developed Jerusalem in the north, south, east and west, and we will keep building our capital."

He concluded, "We will make sure Jerusalem's golden light will shine on our people, and spread the light of Jerusalem to the whole world." (The Jerusalem Post) Read more.

Credible Reports of Miracles in Mozambique

Here, healings come easily. We've prayed for the blind all over the world, and only five times have people been healed. But here, it happens most of the time. To tell you the truth, I don't understand it." -Pastor to Mozambique

(Pemba, Mozambique)-Heidi and Rolland Baker are the head of Iris Ministries in Mozambique. Rolland was raised in Taiwan, the son of Assemblies of God Missionaries, and his wife Heidi-known as "Mama Aida" to the orphans they care for-grew up in Laguna Beach, California. Their life today, in the 11th poorest nation on earth, reflects nothing of Western life, but everything of the Kingdom of God.

As reported in Christianity Today, known worldwide for healing miracles, Heidi claims that in recent years "100 percent of the deaf in the Chiure area have been healed through prayer, scores have been raised from the dead, food has been multiplied, the crippled and blind have been restored, and the Gospel has spread like fire."

Bakers live by their motto, "Stop for One." They also emphasize the Joy of the Lord, manifest in their exuberant Sunday morning worship services. As for wealth, Heidi is quoted as saying riches are a "very sad thing unless they are used to raise up the poor. True riches, she says, "look like children."
