The Daily Brief

1. Clinton takes on critics over Benghazi at tense Hill hearings - Fox News

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton began her long-awaited testimony Wednesday on the Benghazi terror attack by taking "responsibility" -- but she used the full day of hearings to repeatedly deny involvement in key controversies and pointedly reject the allegations of Republican lawmakers. Read more.

- Despite the fireworks during today's hearing, questions remain. Continue to press in with vigorous intercession until every hidden thing regarding this tragedy is revealed, and our embassy personnel who serve our nation overseas will be safe in the days ahead.

- "He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into the light." (Job 12:22)

2. The Chuck Hagel Controversy and the Limits of Secretarial Power - VOA

It has been said that confirmation hearings are one of Washington's favorite blood sports. That certainly appears to be the case with former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, President Barack Obama's choice for secretary of defense. Most analysts agree Hagel will likely be confirmed -- but not until he has gone through some tough questioning by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about his positions on Middle East issues, in particular, Israel. Much less has been said about job of defense.

- O Lord, God of Israel, we come to You on behalf of Your tiny nation of Israel. We ask You to continue Your faithful Covenant of protection and provision for them. We do pray for the "peace of Jerusalem" according to Your promise in Genesis 12:3, and we ask that our nation would not 'cause Israel any harm, or lack of respect by siding with her sworn enemies; nor confirm any person to any job in the government, who does not have Israel's best interests at heart. We pray this for all positions being filled during this second administration, in Yeshua's Name we pray. Amen.

- "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior." (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

3. Obama Vows Aggressive Agenda - Wall Street Journal

President Barack Obama began his second term Monday by setting an agenda for the next four years built on bedrock Democratic social policies, in a provocative speech coming at a time of deep partisanship in the capital and lingering economic uncertainty across the country.

- Lord God, we ask You to direct our government into a God-given trajectory that will be drawn away from the current acts of treason to overthrow our government. God, install Your agenda for the next four years for our country. We pray for national repentance from sin and for Your hand to be over all that is done in our government. In Jesus' Name.

- "For what nation is there so great, who has God so near unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon Him for?" (Deuteronomy 4:7)

4. Obama's Inaugural: If God 'Truly' Created Us Equal, Homosexual 'Love' is Equal as Well - CNS News

President Barack Obama opened his second inaugural address by quoting the statement from the preamble to the Declaration of Independence that all men "are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights."

- Father God, we trust You to counter this raw misinterpretation of the Declaration of Independence with the unmistakable truth from the Word of God that says God destroyed two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, because they practiced sodomy (homosexuality). This is truth. This is God's Word. We break the powers of deception off our people by the Word of God, so that they not believe a lie that will lead them into darkness. Redeem our land and our country from this ungodly lifestyle. In the Name of Jesus.

- "Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground."
(Genesis 19:24-25)

5. Sen. Feinstein's AWB bill to be revealed Thursday- Washington Times

Sen. Dianne Feinstein's office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.

The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an "assault weapon." This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week. Read more.

- Father God, move mightily upon the American people to see this deception in passing a gun control law that would leave us without necessary personal protection. Stand against this law by Your power, O God. In the Name of Jesus we pray.

-"Blessed is he that considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and God will not deliver him unto the will of his enemies." (Psalm 41:1-2)

6. Utah sheriffs write letter to Obama opposing executive order on guns - Deseret News

The Utah Sheriffs' Association has written an open letter to President Barack Obama, respectfully outlining its opposition to executive orders announced this week altering gun laws.

- Father God, change the heart of this man in office, and bare down hard upon his power of control over the issue of Americans owning guns lawfully for self-survival. Plead our cause, O God, and maintain the freedom to lawfully own guns for our protection. Send an angel to hold back any signing of any executive order that would prevent Americans from lawfully owning guns. In the Name of Jesus we pray.

- "By this I know that God favors me, because my enemy does not triumph over me." (Psalm 41:11)

7. Russia moves to enact anti-gay law nationwide - AP

The legislation being pushed by the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with information that is defined as "propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism."
- Father in heaven, by Your mighty power set in place this same law in our legislation that would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with information that is defined as "propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism." Strengthen our elected officials to stand tall and strong in their stance against these practices. Bind all forces of darkness under the blood of Jesus that would hinder this from being enacted. In Jesus' Name.

- "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes." (Psalm 19:7-9)

8. Kremlin begins evacuation of Russians from Syria - NBC News

Moscow is sending two planes to Lebanon for the evacuation of Russian citizens from Syria as the fighting in the capital Damascus intensifies, marking the first such effort since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad began in March 2011.
- Father, save the Russians and the Syrians from the hard bondage that this president has brought upon these people. Break the hardness of Assad's heart, send help to the people, and preside over them with kindness. Send the Holy Spirit into this country that would draw these people to the Lord. Bring release to the Syrians and ensue major changes that will encourage them to seek the Lord God in heaven. In Jesus' Name.

- "For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off their necks, and will burst their bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him; but they shall serve the Lord their God." (Jeremiah 30:8-9)

9. 'History will not forgive those who do not stop Iran' - Israel Hayom

"History will not forgive those who do not stop Iran's nuclear program," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told U.S. senators visiting in Israel over the weekend, in what appeared to be a subtle message to U.S. President Barack Obama.
- Lord, we pray for the peace of Israel. We pray that the U.S. will continue to stand with Israel. May Isreal's Prime Minister and President Obama have godly wisdom in their decisions. May they come to thirst after You and seek You for their guidance. You are the author of the history and know beginning to the end, and we trust in that. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- And he said unto me, it is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him who is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (Revelation 21:6-7)

10. Egypt's Sinister Proposal: A Call for Jews to Return - Family Security Matters

In the wake of Egypt's newly ratified constitution embracing Islamic religious juridical law, Dr. Essam Al Eryian, the high ranking Egyptian political figure and Vice President of the Freedom and Justice Party, initiated a generous invitation to former Egyptian Jews now living in Israel. In an interview on December 28 with Al-Ahram, the state-controlled Arabic daily newspaper, Dr. Al Eryian justified his announcement as the need for Egypt "to place itself in the right international and regional status" as it undertakes "democratic change," - "regional" referring to the Arab-Muslim Ummah (nation).
- Father, we are concerned about this news, which seems to be a "ploy" to get unsuspecting Jews, who formerly were in Egypt, to return under the "guise" of Egypt becoming more of a democracy. We ask that You reveal the hidden agenda of these Egyptians attempting to lure Jews into returning to Egypt. We pray You will give wisdom, understanding, and discretion to those Jews affected by this invitation. We pray You will protect them and hide them under Your wings! Amen.

- "Those who go to God Most High for safety will be protected by the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, 'You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God and I trust you. God will save you from hidden traps and from deadly diseases. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you can hide. His truth will be your shield and protection." (Psalm 91:1-4)

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Corin. 12:10)

1. Dutch Queen In Brunei Amid "Christian Persecution" - BosNewsLife

Dutch Queen Beatrix has begun a two-day visit to Brunei, focusing on expanding economic relations despite concerns about the reported increased persecution of minority Christians in the gas and oil rich Islamic mini-state.

Already, "Churches must register, but requests are frequently ignored by officials," said Open Doors, which has close contacts with local Christians. "Registered churches are closely monitored and services are attended by government informants. They are prohibited from taking in seekers [in the Christian faith] and converts from the local population," the group added. (Read more)

2. Priest requests prayer for Kenya - Christian Today

A Kenyan priest has appealed to Christians around the world to pray for the people of Garissa, a violence-stricken city in the North Eastern Province of Kenya.

The Reverend Canon Francis Omondi's plea comes after at least five people were killed and four others wounded by Somali Islamist group al-Shabab who opened fire on guests at one of the city's local hotels, The Dunes on 16 January. (Read more)

3. Christian Girl in Pakistan Allegedly Forced to Convert, Marry - MorningStarNews

House passes 'No Budget, No Pay,'

House passes 'No Budget, No Pay,'
sends to the Senate

The House on Wednesday put new pressure on the Senate to pass its first budget in nearly four years, by approving a bill that threatens to withhold senators' pay until that work is done.

The House approved the No Budget, No Pay Act in a 285-144 vote. Among Republicans, 33 voted against it to protest the absence of specific spending cuts in a bill that essentially extends the debt ceiling. But they were more than offset by the 86 Democrats who voted for the measure.

The bill suspends the debt ceiling until May 18, and requires each chamber to pass a budget by April 15 or have its members face a suspension of pay. Republicans are hoping the bill gives Congress a few months to find a longer-term debt ceiling agreement that includes significant spending cuts. (The Hill)

> > > Offer praise for the passage of this common- sense bill. Bind the spirit that would mock the language and the intent of this legislation in the other chamber in Congress. Pray that the Senate will take heed and take action to pass a budget by April 15th. Pray!
- "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways." (Job 22:28)

Hillary On The Hill

Hillary On The Hill

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally testified on Capitol Hill concerning what she knew about the murderous attack that took the lives of four brave Americans at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya. As expected, there were no major revelations from Clinton who, while admitting she was "responsible," denied she should be blamed.

Secretary Clinton did admit that she never read the repeated requests for additional security at the consulate. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested Clinton should have been relieved of her duties for not reading the cables.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) expressed his frustration with Clinton's lack of clear answers, saying, "Here we are, four months later, and we still don't have the basic information. The American people deserve to know answers and they certainly don't deserve false answers."

Clinton insisted she was not involved in producing the inaccurate talking points used by Ambassador Susan Rice on five major talk shows claiming the attacks were due to protests about an anti-Islamic film. When pressed by Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) about the administration's shifting explanations for the attacks, Secretary Clinton lost her temper and shouted, "What difference would it make?"

Let's answer her question. The difference is that when the administration blamed a film it was suggested that Americans died because of our First Amendment rights. Our liberty is not the problem, Mrs. Clinton. When you tell the truth -- that it was because of Al Qaeda-linked extremists -- you educate the American people about the real enemy and the evil agenda of radical Islam. (Gary Bauer)

Warning from Forgotten Inaugural

Warning from Forgotten Inaugural

Note: The 20th Amendment changed Presidential Inaugurations to JANUARY 20th. Prior to 1933, Inauguration Day was March 4th.

WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON,

MARCH 4, 1841,

INAUGURAL:

"Limited as are the powers which have been granted, still enough have been granted to constitute a despotism if concentrated in the Executive branch. . .

The tendency of power to increase itself, particularly when exercised by a single individual . . . would terminate in virtual monarchy. . .

The tendencies of governments in their decline is to monarchy.

The spirit of faction in times of great excitement imposes itself upon the people as the genuine spirit of freedom,

and, like the false christs whose coming was foretold by the Savior. . . impose upon the true and most faithful disciples of liberty.

It is in periods like this that it behooves the people to be most watchful of those to whom they have entrusted power."

The Good News Corner

The Good News Corner:

National Marriage Week

The battle for traditional marriage remains one of the major flashpoints in America's culture war. Barack Obama cited men "marrying" men as one of the great challenges of our time in his inaugural address. Utah's ban on polygamy is facing a legal challenge in federal court. And in a matter of weeks, the Supreme Court will hear cases seeking to overturn both state and federal laws defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

The news is depressing and, more often than not, there is little the average person can do. That's why I am so pleased to tell you about National Marriage Week!

Across the country, there will be a grassroots campaign to encourage and strengthen normal marriage during the week of February 7th through the 14th. This effort is led by my good friend Chuck Stetson and the folks at National Marriage Week USA.

National Marriage Week is not about being against something, but rather about promoting what thousands of years of history, academic research and common sense tell us is right -- that marriage is the union of one man and one woman and the best environment for raising healthy children and stable societies.
