The Daily Brief

1. Obama offers 'administrative fix' for ObamaCare - Fox News

President Obama announced Thursday he would offer an administrative "fix" to a provision in the Affordable Care Act -- or ObamaCare -- that forces millions of Americans to lose their existing health coverage by directing insurance companies to allow affected policy holders to renew their old coverage. The president said states and insurers can extend current policies canceled under health law for a year. "I completely get how upsetting this could be for many Americans," Obama said.

Obama's announcement comes as pressure mounts by members of his own party to fix multiple problems associated with his landmark health care law.

House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday he was "highly skeptical" the Obama administration would be able to fix the problems with ObamaCare administratively, like the president suggested. Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, has called ObamaCare, a "rolling calamity that has to be stopped." "This is going to destroy the best health care delivery system in the world," Boehner said moments before the president spoke.

The Politics of Lying

The Politics of Lying

Exclusive: Bill Federer sees Obama strategy clearly in Machiavelli quotes

"If you like your health-care plan, you can keep it. Period." - President Barak Obama Americans are stunned by the president's disregard for his promise. This makes perfect sense, though, when one reads the popular political handbook written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1515 titled "The Prince":

"The promise given was a necessity of the past: the word broken is a necessity of the present."

"A wise ruler ought never to keep faith when by doing so it would be against his interests."

"A prince never lacks legitimate reasons to break his promise." . . .

As Americans are awakening to the realization that a Machiavellian leader could actually lie to them, they may be curious to read how Machiavelli instructs a leader to treat his opponents:

"If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared."

"Severities should be dealt out all at once, so that their suddenness may give less offense; benefits ought to be handed out drop by drop, so that they may be relished the more."

"The new ruler must determine all the injuries that he will need to inflict. He must inflict them once and for all." . . .

How to Help the Philippines

Urgent Need in the Philippines

Join various ministries in responding to the people's physical needs
while continuing to lift them up in prayer.

[From: Somebody Cares]

Before Super Typhoon Haiyan, Somebody Cares was working with our partner relationships and ministries in the Philippines responding to the 7.1 earthquake that struck central Philippines (Bohol province) in early October. God was connecting strategic partnerships in preparation for one of the most devastating and catastrophic natural disasters in the Philippines' history. Typhoon Haiyan came across the Philippines with winds over 190mph resulting in a tidal surge pushing inland destroying entire communities. Early projections are estimating over 10,000 casualties with 70,000 families affected as well as hundreds of thousands of people displaced.

Somebody Cares is currently in direct communication with strategic partners who are already on the ground connecting relationships, assessing damage and identifying immediate needs. As reports come in we will determine how we can best respond through both financial and material resources. Our commitment has always been and will continue to be the empowerment of local partners who are on the ground aiding those who are in greatest need. You can be a tangible expression of Christ's love to Typhoon survivors through your generous donations. We will continue to update you through our website and social media as we become aware of immediate and ongoing needs. Please help today! We also have quite a few churches and relief organizations that are looking to us at Somebody Cares International for resource and financial assistance as we can help with.
For those who would rather give to other organizations rather than through our Somebody Cares Relief Network, then following below is also a few other Organizations that I have mentioned and highly recommend to you. I've been in relationship with some of them for many years and can attest to their mission and effectiveness. Some of them are also a part of our Somebody Cares International and Global Compassion Response Network. We have others in communications with us on a daily basis. The assessments continue to come in and we are now able to connect various groups to meeting the overwhelming needs.
You are welcome to give directly to other organizations or you can give through Somebody Cares International at the this link.
Some of our official SCI and GCRN partner organizations are committed to helping us with cargo of resources to meet critical needs, and others are working on air and sea transport for resources procured. One large grocery supermarket chain that partners with us has committed to procuring items for us as well.

Together we can do so much more!

Blessings,

Prayers for the Supreme Court

Will Supreme Court take 3 crucial religious freedom cases?

On November 26, the Supreme Court of the United States will grapple with three critical cases-cases that cut to the core of our American vision of religious freedom.

The questions that are being asked of the Supreme Court are simple and fundamental:

- May the government order citizens to violate their sincerely held religious convictions?

- Does the free exercise clause of our Constitution mean anything anymore?

- Should the United States be a refuge for those fleeing religious persecution?

In Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood v. Sebelius, the Court will have to decide if religious freedoms are violated by ObamaCare. In Romeike v. Holder, Home School Legal Defense Association is asking the Supreme Court to uphold the principle that the United States is a land that will offer protection to a German family who faces certain persecution and violation of their fundamental human rights if they are forced to return to their homeland.
The Manhattan Declaration says that "under no circumstances will we render under to Caesar what is God's." Do children belong to Caesar? Doesn't God give children as gifts to parents and assign them the right and responsibility to raise and educate them?
Will you join me and thousands of others for a day of prayer and fasting on November 17 to ask God's favor on behalf of religious freedom and this precious family-Uwe and Hannah Romeike and their seven children?
(Read more about the Romeikes by going here.)
Will you please join me on Sunday, November 17, asking God's mercy on our nation, protection for religious freedom, and that the Supreme Court will hear the Romeike family's appeal?
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. May God bless you!

The Good News Corner

The Good News Corner:

Ben Gurion University researchers unveil fuel
made from water, carbon dioxide

"The technology is based on novel specially tailored catalysts and catalytic processes. Well-established, commercially available technology can be directly applied to the process developed at BGU," said Moti Herskowitz, one of the researchers behind the new process. "It is envisaged that the short-term implementation of the process will combine synthetic gas produced from various renewable and alternative sources with carbon dioxide and hydrogen."

While it could take five to ten years to commercialize the patent-pending technology, Herskowitz said as he unveiled the research at the Bloomberg Fuel Choices conference in Tel Aviv, they hope to see the demonstration plans within two years.

"Why not use zero-cost resources. We could use carbon dioxide, water, and energy from the sun, and combining them together get real fuels," he said. "We're ready to take off. We have the technology, the technology is proven, we've filed patents for it."

A recurring theme among conference participants was the importance of opening existing infrastructure to competition from alternative fuels, such as ethanol and methanol, and then letting the market decide. Many new engines are already enabled with "flex fuel" technology, but old cars can be cheaply retrofitted. Yet, some of the problem is political.

"The oil industry has drawn a line in the sand that says 10% [ethanol blended with gasoline]. That's your share," said Doug Berven, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, POET on a panel moderated by Jerusalem Post Editor-in-chief Steve Linde. "You're up against the most powerful political force on the planet," he continued.

The regulations in place mean that the US has a ready supply of cheap, efficient, and cleaner ethanol that Israel could import, he noted.

Daniel Recht, of South Korea's OCI Sustainability Center noted that Israel's natural gas boom was not an indefinite fix for its energy problems.

"Unfortunately, my advice to Israel is that natural gas is only a temporary solution," he said. Ultimately, the world would need to find a way to transfer sustainable energies such as solar or wind to transportation.

"Cars without tailpipe emissions may still have a lot of emissions in their life cycle. The way to fix that is to fix the grid," he said. (Jerusalem Post) Read more.

My glory and the lifter of my head

And he heard me out of His holy hill
I laid me down and slept and awaked
