The Daily Brief
Editor's Note:

The season of judgment must be upon us.

We take note that six of the eight headlines below involve cases in our judicial system. Thank you for your prayers upholding the judges and the courts in America and that justice is served for our people. Amen.

1. Alabama High Court Rules that the Unborn have rights- CBN news

The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that the word "child" includes both the born and unborn. (Read more)

- Father thank You for this decision - a decision that is a legal breakthrough for LIFE. We ask that You hedge it before and behind so that no other court can pull it down.

- "Be exalted, Lord, in Your own strength: so we will sing and praise Your power." (Psalm 21:13)

2. Pennsylvania: Quick ruling sought in state's same-sex marriage case - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

There may be no need for a trial to decide whether the state's same-sex marriage ban is constitutional, according to court filings Monday that indicated that the facts aren't contested, though the law still is. The plaintiffs -- who include a widow, 11 gay couples and two teenage children of one of the pairs -- argued in motions for summary judgment that the state isn't disputing their facts and hasn't even identified an expert witness, so a judge can toss the ban out without a trial. (Read more)

- Lord we ask that You turn the tide in our courts away from sin.

- "They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood. But the Lord is my defense; and My God is the rock of my refuge." (Psalm 94:21-22)

3. Supreme Court Upholds Michigan Ban on College Affirmative Action - (Washington Free Beacon; Reuters)

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday dealt a blow to the use of racial preferences in higher education by upholding a Michigan law that bans the practice in state university admissions.

On a 6-2 vote, the court rejected a challenge to the voter-approved ban, although the justices were divided as to the legal rationale. The court made it clear it was not deciding the larger and divisive question of whether affirmative action admission policies can be lawful. (Read more)

- We praise the Lord for this judicial decision that allows college admissions officers to remain "blind to color" and free to judge the application of each student on his or her own merits. Bind any spirits of backlash that would try to erupt in the wake of this decision, and seek peace for our land. Praise the Lord.

- "Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands." (Zeph. 2:3)

4. Atheists win prayer battle against California city council -Washington Times

Atheists who complained about pre-meeting prayers conducted by members of the Pismo Beach City Council in California can now claim a win. (Read more)

- Lord, we bind the powers of darkness that have encroached upon this city council, and pray that You will reveal yourself to those who hate You.

- "For God so loved the word that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

5. Oklahoma court could face impeachment - AP

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A member of the Oklahoma House drafted a resolution Wednesday seeking the impeachment of state Supreme Court justices who granted a delay of execution to two death row inmates. Republican state Rep. Mike Christian told The Associated Press that the five justices engaged in a "willful neglect of duty" when they granted stays of execution Monday to Clayton Lockett and Charles Warner, both of whom were scheduled to be executed this month.

Lockett and Warner, who aren't challenging their convictions, have filed a civil lawsuit seeking the source of the drugs used to execute them. Pending the resolution of that lawsuit, they asked for a stay of execution. . . Gov. Mary Fallin halted Lockett's execution to ensure he won't be put to death before his day in court, but complains the state Supreme Court strayed from a mandate that it handle only civil matters when it issued its own order stopping executions over the drug question.(Read more)

Update: This is tonight's headline. Both inmates will be executed this coming Tuesday. They have ruled that the inmates have no standing to ask for the source of the lethal drugs, or their side effects. So, the Court has overturned its previous ruling.

- Whether or not the issue of revealing these drugs is settled, the greater matter is the possible impeachment of a sitting court. Lift this issue up in prayer; God will make a way for peace to be restored in the great State of Oklahoma, and for all to come to agreement in this case.

- "Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness." (I Timothy 6:11b)

6. Feds Beg Supreme Court to let them search cell phones without a warrant - Wired

The Justice Department argues that police should be free to warrantlessly search cellphones taken from suspects immediately at the time of arrest, rather than risk letting the suspect or his associates lock or remotely wipe the phone before it can be searched. (Read more)

- Lord we pray against this move and ask that the courts will limit federal invasion of privacy.

- "Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity." (Psalm 141:9)

7. America's Power Grid at the Limit - Daily Caller

Americans take electricity for granted. It powers our lights, our computers, our offices, and our industries. But misguided environmental policies are eroding the reliability of our power system. (Read more)

- Father, we ask Your hand of protection over America's power grid, and for wisdom to come to our leaders. You alone know how dependent upon it the nation has become- we pray for Your mercy.

- "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and the strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure." (Isaiah 33:6)

8. URGENT! BOOTS ON THE GROUND: US troops arrive in Poland amid Ukraine crisis - Fox News

WASHINGTON - U.S. Army paratroopers are arriving in Poland on Wednesday as part of a wave of U.S. troops heading to shore up America's Eastern European allies in the face of Russian meddling in Ukraine. Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said an initial contingent of about 600 troops will head to four countries across Eastern Europe for military exercises over the next month.

The show of strength comes as the United States, European allies and Ukraine try to ease tensions with Russia and pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. All sides struck a diplomatic agreement last week, but it remains unclear whether pro-Russian demonstrators, who took over a series of government buildings in the wake of Russia's annexation of Crimea, will back down. (Read more)

- Father we pray Your mighty protection over our troops are they take position in Poland. May Your hand be upon them.

- "A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you."( Psalm 91:7)

10. Oregon to abandon ObamaCare exchange - The Hill

Oregon is set to become the first state to drop its ObamaCare exchange and transition into the system managed by the federal government.

The decision follows months of severe technical issues that have made Oregon's marketplace one of the worst in the country.

"Cover Oregon" is the only ObamaCare enrollment system that won't let registrants buy coverage and qualify for tax credits in one sitting. It remains mired in glitches almost seven months after a rocky launch. (Read more)

- One step at a time, this horrible, federal mandate is slowly coming apart at the seams. Offer praise for this action taken by the State of Oregon, and ask that this momentum now be followed by a "ripple effect" across our land. Enough is enough! We are taking our freedom back!

- "And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not." (Malachi 3:18)

The Daily Jot

Prophetic times, prophetic people

Headline caught your attention, right? I have noticed that about 30% more people read The Daily Jot when it mentions something about prophecy in the headline. People are concerned about prophecy. They are concerned about events that may relate to prophecy. I get that. When I first started writing this column over 12 years ago, a prophetic event popped up here or there. Then it went to maybe once a week. Then several times a week. Now, there are usually many to pick from each day--events that may be related to prophecy. The prophetic times have accelerated. And while most churches don't teach a lot about prophecy, there is great interest in the times in which we live and how they relate to the Bible.

Trouble is, with the greater interest in prophecy and how the times are influenced by it, a lot of false prophets have risen out of the world, claiming Christ, yet rewriting or reusing the scriptures to fit their own interpretations. There are so many who take verses out of context and quote them to fit their own interpretation or theology. This occurs so often that many people do not even know what the truth is because there are so many opinions taught as fact, and they are not in alignment with scripture. When that happens, the trumpeters of these "revelations" always blame it on the Holy Spirit. I have heard more than one say, "I know the Bible says this, but the Holy Spirit is telling me this." And the two don't match.
Jesus warned in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." He talks a lot about false prophets and false teachers, deceiving even the elect if possible. He says they will "deceive many," "shall show great signs and wonders," and are "ravening wolves." Peter warned of false prophets in 2 Peter 1:21-2:1, "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. But there were false prophets also among the people, even denying the Lord that brought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction." He goes on to say that many will follow them. I believe we live in prophetic times and we are in need of discernment on these "prophets."

What happens is that people get wrapped around the axle of the extra-biblical, emotional, and self-indulgent. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." Fact is, if you want to be a prophetic people, don't look for things that tickle the ears. Look for ways that you can make a difference in this dark and dying world. Stick with the Holy Scriptures because the Holy Spirit will not guide you apart from the Word of God. Strange fire burns. The light of Christ endures forever.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

P.A. Embraces Two Terrorist Organizations

Palestinian Authority Embraces Two Terrorist Organizations:
Hamas and Fatah

Peace Talks Effectively Now Dead

(Two Commentaries, below)

Article One: Palestinians Pick Genocide Over Peace

If there was any doubt or confusion about the true obstacle to peace in the Middle East, yesterday's action by the leadership of the Palestinian Authority to embrace Hamas should settle the issue. This decision to form a new unity government with Hamas -- a terrorist organization that refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist -- tells you everything you need to know about the unwillingness of the Palestinian leadership to negotiate a meaningful peace with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasted the move yesterday, saying, ". . . as peace talks were about to take place, [Palestinian President Mahmoud] Abbas chose Hamas and not peace. Whoever chooses Hamas does not want peace."

Meanwhile at the State Department, reality seems to be setting in. Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, "It's hard to see how Israel can be expected to negotiate with a government that does not believe in its right to exist. This could seriously complicate our efforts." You think? (Gary Bauer)

Article Two: Hamas-Fatah Unity Would Cripple Peace Efforts

A Statement by AIPAC: The American Israel Public Affairs Committee
The announced formation of a Hamas-Fatah unity government represents a direct affront to Secretary of State John Kerry and a severe blow to Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts. Hamas is an Islamist terrorist organization that seeks Israel's destruction and attacks innocent civilians. Any Palestinian government that includes Hamas cannot be a negotiating partner unless it meets longstanding Quartet demands ensconced in U.S. law: recognize Israel, reject violence, and accept previous Israeli-Palestinian agreements.
The prospective Hamas-Fatah unity government gravely undermines the cause of peace, democracy and human rights.
Participation of terrorist groups in the PA government would violate previous agreements, international standards and democratic principles.
Hamas's rocket attacks against Israel, support for terrorism, and oppressive rule of Gaza demonstrate its extremist character.
America must continue to insist that it will not work with or provide aid to the unity government unless it accepts the Quartet principles.

UPDATE FROM THE EMBASSY OF ISRAEL:
04.24.2014

PM Netanyahu: Abas has to choose: Peace or Hamas

The Israeli Security Cabinet decided that Israel will not negotiate with a Palestinian government backed by Hamas, a terrorist organization that calls for Israel's destruction. PM Netanyahu: Whoever chooses the terrorism of Hamas does not want peace." (Read more here)

IRS: Bad to the Bonus

IRS: Bad to the Bonus

Whoever said "cheaters never prosper" obviously didn't work at the IRS! There, it seems employees do a great job of collecting everyone's taxes but their own. As if Americans needed another reason to seethe over the agency, government officials are pulling the curtain back on even more corruption.

The latest bombshell comes courtesy of the Department's Inspector General, who is exposing the IRS for doling out almost $3 million in bonuses to employees with "disciplinary issues" that span everything from fraud and abusing agency credit cards to owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes. (Apparently, the agency was too busy targeting conservatives to trouble with their own tax returns.) "Employees' tax problems," the Inspector General writes, "included 'willful understatement of tax liabilities over multiple tax years, late payment of tax liabilities, and underreporting of income."

Meanwhile, Back in New Jersey . . .

Pledging a Grievance on the Pledge of Allegiance

When it comes to the Pledge of Allegiance, atheists don't know the meaning of the word "quit." Despite loss after loss in federal court, secular groups refuse to give up on their goal of stripping the words "under God" from America's most patriotic exercise. This week, the American Humanist Association (AHA) announced it was taking another crack at the phrase in a New Jersey school district where students daily recite the Pledge.

It's the group's second lawsuit against "under God" in a matter of months -- only this time, AHA is trying a different tact. Borrowing a handful of buzzwords from the same-sex "marriage" debate, the organization is now insisting that this kind of daily exercise treats "atheist and humanist children as second-class citizens, and certainly contributes to anti-atheist prejudices."

Obviously, the forces of political correctness are trying to capitalize on the marriage messaging that that so many courts have embraced. It remains to be seen whether this play for the judges' sympathies will work. As far as the Becket Fund is concerned, trying to prove that children are victimized by the Pledge of Allegiance will be a tall order, even with this twist. As the Fund's Diana Verm pointed out, AHA and its clients "have every right not to say the Pledge if they don't want to, but they don't have the right to silence everyone else."
Unfortunately, this fundamental misunderstanding is affecting a lot more schools than New Jersey's. In Cypress, Texas, parents were furious to hear that a teacher told a second-grader to stop bringing her Bible to school for the class's silent reading time. "They're letting them read the Hunger Games, that's [about] kids killing kids, why can't she read the Bible?" fumed one mom. The girl's parents, who were afraid to go public with the story, turned to Liberty Institute for help. When its attorneys raised the concerns with school officials, a spokesman released a statement distancing the district from the teacher's intolerance and explaining that students can bring their own book as long as they can understand it, and it's deemed appropriate by the school. "As such, religious material, including the Bible, that meets these guidelines would be permissible for a classroom assignment and/or independent reading." (Family Research Council)

The Good News Corner:

GLOBAL MEDIA OUTREACH CELEBRATES ONE BILLION GOSPEL PRESENTATIONS

PLANO, Texas (April 23, 2014) - In its tenth year of sharing the Gospel, Global Media Outreach (GMO) is celebrating the milestone of presenting the Gospel more than 1 billion times to people all over the world. On April 21, a visit to one of GMO's Gospel websites tipped the scales in favor of the ministry's new goal: Going beyond a billion.

"I was looking for something else and this ad came up here, I made the decision," wrote Rafael, a seeker from Mexico, who viewed a Gospel presentation online. I'm asking for your help to understand all about Jesus," wrote Rafael.

Since 2004, the ministry has received millions of messages just like Rafael's from people across the globe who have viewed a Gospel presentation and have requested to be discipled by the ministry's team of nearly 9,000 Online Missionaries.

"With 91 percent of humans living within range of a cell tower, the majority of seekers come to our sites from their cell phones. We see technology moving so rapidly and so dramatically across the earth, we know God Himself is making this possible," said Walt Wilson, founder and chairman of Global Media Outreach.

Because of technology, GMO's Gospel presentations are far reaching--even being accessed by those who live in countries where Christians face rejection and persecution because of their faith.

"I've been threatened with death because we embraced the Christian religion. For your information we are a group of 20 young people from the Republic of Yemen," wrote a seeker named Sam.

As a leader in internet evangelism, GMO stays on the cutting edge of technology to disciple and minister to others--including those who can't connect with Christians in their own community. People all over the world are hungry for the Gospel, and GMO is focused on going beyond a billion to reach all those who hunger for Christ.

View live tracking of people all over the globe visiting GMO sites and being exposed to the Gospel at www.GreatCommission2020.com. Experience how seekers are growing in their faith by visiting www.GodLife.com or www.DiosyVida.com.

Signs and Wonders

Signs and Wonders:

Colorado town still digging out from 'biblical' destruction
as new flooding looms

A Colorado village that has faced an unusually long road to recovery from last September's catastrophic flooding is scrambling to complete the job before the spring melt can undo its hard-fought progress.

Glen Haven - unlike other areas of Colorado affected by the deadly floods in September - is a private, "unincorporated" town of about 400 people, without a homeowner's association, that can only receive limited public assistance from the county and none from the federal government when it comes to repairing its infrastructure following a natural disaster.

When a deluge of rain struck the tiny, 100-year-old community, turning streams into raging rivers that washed away entire roads and buildings, residents received roughly $2.2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration through "individual assistance" money - allowing for homes and some small businesses to be repaired, according to FEMA.

But because of Glen Haven's unique status as an unincorporated town, the effort to clear a debris field that resembled "Armageddon" and rebuild roads has largely been a volunteer undertaking, led by members of the village's volunteer fire department.

"We basically got no money from the government for infrastructure repair," said Tony Fink, president of the board of directors for the Glen Haven area volunteer fire department. Fink claims the state and federal governments have not fixed bridges and roads - including emergency access ones - because they are considered "private" and therefore not covered by taxpayer money.

"I can't appropriately provide emergency access to the 200 residencies with my quarter-million-dollar fire truck," Fink said of the village, located 25 miles west of Loveland. "Our roads are impassable. In some places, roads don't exist."

Of immediate concern to Fink and others is a rudimentary 3-mile stretch of private road that could well be wiped out by the spring run-off that is expected in May, when snowbanks melt.

"It could demolish the roads we've already done some repair on, as well as eliminate emergency access to people in the area," Fink said. "We're willing to lose roads. We're not willing to lose people."

"We're all trying to do what we can with limited skills," said Fink, a retired physician. "I don't know a thing about rebuilding roads. I'm just a person who cares. We're doing everything we can to make sure we don't become a ghost town. There's a real possibility that could happen."

Note: Eight people were killed in Colorado in September when a wall of water destroyed parts of the state, prompting evacuations in the hardest-hit counties, such as Larimer, Boulder and Weld.

Prayer Request: Please pray for the citizens of this region, asking our Lord to withhold any more flooding rains until the area can be restored. Amen.

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

Today's Birthday

Today's Birthday on the Hill

Almost every day of the year, a member of Congress or a Senator is celebrating a birthday. Let's lift up these men and women, day by day in prayer on their special day, that God might bless them and show them His love for each one. Indeed, let's move together in obedience to the Lord's mandate in I Timothy 2:1-4. It is written:

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today's Birthday Greeting goes to:
