1. UN: Spread of Polio Now a World Health Emergency - AP

For the first time ever, the World Health Organization on Monday declared the spread of polio an international public health emergency that could grow in the next few months and unravel the nearly three-decade effort to eradicate the crippling disease.

- Father, we stand against this disease, In Jesus Name. Polio will not rise up again against the people. We apply the Blood of Jesus.

- Whatever they plot against the LORD he will bring to an end; trouble will not come a second time. (Nahum 1:9)

2. US: Russian planes more active in Asia-Pacific - AP

The commander of U.S. air forces in the Pacific is reporting a significant increase in activities by Russian planes and ships in the region. Gen. - Lord, guide us and protect us, In Jesus Name. The Lord will fight for us and protect us against our enemies. May we be prepared spiritually and physically for any force that comes against us.

- "Through You we will push down our enemies; through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our enemies, and have put to shame those who hated us. In God we boast all day long, and praise Your name forever." (Psalm 44:5)

3. Obama expresses commitment to two-state solution on Israel's Independence Day - Jerusalem Post

US President Barack Obama is sent his "warmest wishes" to the Israeli people as Israel celebrate 66 years of independence, pledging to work with Israel "to support a two-state solution to the decades-old conflict" with the Palestinian people.

- Father, we pray these words of "warmest wishes" will be upheld. We pray America will stand by Israel no matter the strain of circumstances.

- An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. (Proverbs 12:17)

4. Harry Reid: No Benghazi select committee in the Senate - Washington Examiner

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he will not form a select committee in the upper chamber to examine the fatal terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, despite a House move to create such a panel.

- Father, reveal all truth that may be covered up in this Benghazi attack. We pray for a committee to be formed in this matter.

- For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. (Luke 8:17)

5. Op-ED: Can God bless a Godless America? - Fox News

The White House is waging an all-out assault on religious liberty. Public schools are indoctrinating our children with the gospel of secularism. Hollywood is spewing toxins into our homes. The soundtrack of our lives is a pulsating mix of sex and violence and filth. The American family is in ruins. What was once wrong is now right and what was once right is now wrong.

- Father, when evil abounds, grace much more abounds! We pray for a move of your Spirit throughout America from our children all the way up to our leadership.

- But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more." (Romans 5:20)

6. Report: Last January, Pentagon Police Agency Hit by "Catastrophic" Network Outage - Nextgov

The agency that manages the Pentagon Police Department and also runs its networks and computers experienced a "catastrophic network technological outage" on Jan. 3, and repairs may not be complete until January 2015, an obscure document on the Federal Business Opportunities website revealed.

The contracting document, posted on May 2, said the outage experienced by the Pentagon Life Safety System Network and Life Safety Backbone left the Pentagon Force Protection Agency "without access to the mission-critical systems needed to properly safeguard personnel and facilities, rendering the agency blind across the national capital region."

The Force Protection Agency provides security and services to 100 military buildings in Washington, Maryland and Virginia and reports to the director of administration and management. (Read more)

- Offer praise to the Lord that our city experienced peace throughout this apparent computer crisis last January. Lift up those who have been researching this failure, that it will not happen again. Praise God.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

7. Thai Prime Minister Forced To Resign Over Abuse Of Power - AP

BANGKOK (AP) - A court ousted Thailand's prime minister on Wednesday for abuse of power, accomplishing what anti-government demonstrators have sought to do for the past six months and further widening the country's sharp political divide. Supporters of deposed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called for a huge rally Saturday to protest the ruling by the Constitutional Court, which exercised powers laid out in a constitution written by a military government after a coup in 2006. The leader of the anti-government protesters, Suthep Thaugsuban, meanwhile, told his followers that they would stage a "final offensive" on Friday and would achieve their goal of fully ousting the government.

The United States, a long-standing ally of Thailand, urged all sides to resolve the political tensions peacefully and democratically. "In keeping with Thailand's democratic ideals, a resolution should include elections and an elected government. We urge all sides to exercise restraint and reaffirm that violence is not an acceptable means of resolving political differences," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters in Washington on Wednesday.

- As the nations continue to move in various states of turmoil, ask that God's will be done for each one. In this case, we may be looking at another "Egypt", where the people rose up two years ago and ousted a tyrant and moved instead to establish a true democracy. Pray for the people of Thailand; may they come to know the peace of God through our Savior, Christ Jesus.

- "God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him." (Acts 17:30)

The Daily Jot

A prophetic shadow for America

WorldNetDaily reports an incident in the San Francisco area where folks came to a school where officials had banned the American flag on the day of the Mexican celebration of Cinco De Mayo "to avoid violence." The ban was actually upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals four years ago, deciding that First Amendment rights to free speech could be "suspended" to avoid violence. It was the Mexican students who threatened violence because others were wearing T Shirts with American flag themes on Cinco De Mayo. Granted, the 9th Circuit is arguably the most leftist court in the nation, but this incident and the subsequent actions of Hispanic students could be a prophetic shadow for America.

According to WorldNetDaily, a small group of protesters, calling themselves the Gilroy-Morgan Hill Patriots, waved the American flag in front of the school that had banned it. Hispanic students at the school were outraged that these people would wave the American flag on Cinco De Mayo and blasted the social media airwaves with accusations of racism. Many profanity-laced tweets ensued: what was "wrong with these white people holding up American flags in Morgan Hill??? Racist a------s...; F--- your American flag. Racist a------s. I'll always have pride with my Mexican flag but not the American one." The school superintendent in Morgan Hill said students wearing US flag clothing "won't be kicked out." Really?

You see where this is headed? At one point in American history, those coming to America loved the American ideal. They kept their individualism and heritage, but submitted it to and assimilated into the American culture. This country was a melting pot that carried the mindset and ideal of being American. I would never venture to say that all Hispanics coming to the United States are represented by these misguided students who are projecting their own racist hearts toward Americans. I will presume, however, that a majority of those who broke the law to get here have a predisposed mindset toward America being a destination to access resources rather than a place of assimilation and embracing.

Herein lies the problem: At the mere threat of violence, the 9th Circuit Court took away the rights of the law-abiding in deference to the lawless, who as a distinct minority do not accept the culture of their "adopted" country. When Congress allows amnesty, the American Constitutional Republic is threatened because the lawless will have taken precedent over the lawful. This is unbiblical and will result in drastic consequences. While the Bible says that we should not vex a stranger, it also says in Exodus 12:49, "One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourns among you." Numbers 15:15 adds: "as you are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD." The sojourner should abide in our laws, and we are all the same before the Lord. There is no place for racism or lawlessness. Both threaten our nation.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Bible Banned In Broward County

Bible Banned In Broward County

We reported yesterday about the narrow victory at the Supreme Court upholding Christian prayers at government meetings. But no one should doubt that there is an ongoing assault against the free exercise of religion. All too often the victims of this secular assault are our children.

The latest example comes from Broward County, Florida, where a fifth-grade student was told he could not read the Bible during a period of time in which the students were supposedly free to read whatever they wanted.

Every few weeks we hear about a situation where a student has been told that they can't pray, can't read the Bible or can't share their faith. Men died so that our children could enjoy these rights!

But in the left-wing educational establishment, there is tremendous hostility to faith. Evidently a significant number of teachers still believe that anything to do with religion is banned once a child enters the schoolhouse door. Since the Obama Administration is quick to regulate everything, I'm certain it will put out a statement reaffirming the First Amendment rights of schoolchildren, but I won't hold my breath.

When I was in the Reagan Administration, we did inform all 16,000 school districts that children have the right to express religious ideas. And so too did the Bush Administration in 2003.

The culture war is real, my friends. Elections have consequences, and personnel is policy. (Gary Bauer)

Congress Has a Chance to Fix Carrier Drones

Congress Has a Chance to Fix Carrier Drones

Given the chaotic defense budgetary environment, one could be forgiven for overlooking the fact that some truly strategic issues are at play in the defense authorization bill markup taking place in Congress this week.

One key issue involves how Congress deals with the Navy's poor choices in the development of a future carrier-based drone, or in Pentagon-speak, the Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike, or UCLASS, program. The Navy made a mistake by issuing requirements that guarantee the fleet will receive a lesser drone than it could be getting. The Navy is asking for a carrier-version of non-stealthy surveillance drones that operate in uncontested (friendly) airspace. That costly decision will prevent the development of a true, surveillance-strike drone that can operate where they truly will be needed, in enemy airspace. (Intercessors for America, including prayer and verse below)

- Our Constitution charges the federal government with defending the nation, with no mandate for aggression. Pray for budgetary wisdom and restraint to prepare for America's protection with the best technology. Ask the Lord to expose the misuse of finance and for a strong move toward national repentance. Pray through Lamentations 3, applying its principles to our country. Compare Solomon's beginnings with his late-in-life remorse. Disobedience and idolatry had brought him low before God. When God's ways are acknowledged, a nation prospers. Note that with the "bad news," there is hope.
- "Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? Let us search out and examine our ways, and turn back to the LORD; let us lift our hearts and hands to God in heaven. We have transgressed and rebelled; You have not pardoned." (Lamentations 3:39-42)

How Safe Is the Internet?

With Bugs in the System, How Safe Is the Internet?

It seems hardly a week goes by without a major cyber security flaw exposed that could be exploited across millions of internet and mobile connected devices.

This week it was the Internet Explorer browser's turn with Microsoft warning of a vulnerability in the software that needs to be patched. Before that it was the Heartbleed vulnerability found in the Open SSL software used to encrypt communications between us and perhaps 60% of the world's websites.

NSW police warned this week that Eastern European gangs in Sydney have been busy conducting scaled skimming attacks against ATMs, stealing card data and PINs.

Before Christmas US retail giant Target lost control of millions of customer credit card details when point of sale devices were compromised after an attacker initially entered their corporate systems via an air conditioning and heating maintenance interface.

And diplomatic relations have been harmed - and cyber citizens infuriated - by mass data surveillance by governments exposed in files leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. (Source: Realcleartechnology.com) Read more here.

[Prayer below offered by Intercessors for America]
We have visited this theme before. The emphasis for Christians is to take inventory. Life and protection are in the hands of the Lord. Are we to be ruled by the technical advances that are allegedly to serve us? "What did we do before . . .?" Fill in the blank. Before telephones? Before electricity in our homes? Or indoor plumbing? People adapted and survived. God sent His Son "when the fullness of the time had come" (Gal. 4:4), not when Messiah's birth could be announced on the evening news. Who or what rules our lives? The apostle Paul's perspective in Romans is helpful.
- "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness." (Romans 6:16-19)

The Good News Corner:

Under the Media Radar, Gov. Rick Perry was Quietly Baptized Last Month
as He Reaffirmed His Christian Faith

(Texas)-According to a report, Texas Governor Rick Perry managed to keep a rededication baptism he underwent last month, out of the media focus, as he had hoped. Gov. Perry reportedly wanted to "reaffirm his commitment" to his Christian faith, said spokesman Felix Browne.

It was only a small group of friends and family that looked on as Perry, who is a Born-again Christian, was dunked under the waters of the Little Rocky Creek, outside Independence, Texas. It is reportedly the same body of water where Sam Houston-first elected president of the Republic of Texas-was also baptized in 1854.

"Gov. Perry has a deep and abiding faith in God," spokesman Felix Browne said in a written statement. "Like many people of faith, the governor wished to reaffirm his commitment in a way that holds great personal meaning." (Breaking Christian News)

Signs and Wonders:

Meteor shower to peak this week

Meteor shower is made up of dust left behind by the elusive Halley's Comet.

[Note: this shower peaked yesterday morning on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 -- on the date that marked Israel's Independence Day!]

WASHINGTON, May 4 (UPI) -- A meteor shower made up of debris from Halley's Comet should peak just before dawn Tuesday morning.

Though the comet only shows its face around Earth every 75 to 76 years, that doesn't mean we don't still see evidence of its existence every once in a while.

Each time it makes a pass around the sun, Halley's Comet leaves a trail made up of dust or cosmic litter. That litter comes close to Earth twice each year: once in May, called the Eta Aquarid meteor shower and once in October, called the Orionid meteor shower.

The Eta Aquarid should be most visible early Tuesday morning and late Monday night. It's been seen under a dark, moonless sky, and at its peak, up to 60 meteors could be seen each hour. (Read more)

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
