The Daily Brief

1. Pentagon Taking Steps to Prepare for Mass Civil Breakdown - The Guardian

A US Department of Defense (DOD) research program is funding universities to model the dynamics, risks and tipping points for large-scale civil unrest across the world, under the supervision of various US military agencies. The multi-million dollar program is designed to develop immediate and long-term "war fighter-relevant insights" for senior officials and decision makers in "the defense policy community," and to inform policy implemented by "combatant commands." (Read more)

- Father, this news is very disturbing. It sounds like this administration is anticipating a "martial" law situation, perhaps one of their own making. Give us wisdom, Lord, in our own personal preparation. It seems ludicrous to us to think of soldiers in the streets protecting the federal government from law-abiding citizens in the street. As the days of the current administration wind down, it seems the turmoil and fear increase. You are our Shalom, Prince of Peace. Give wisdom, O Lord, to Your people, and may Your time clock be the one that is followed. In Your Name, we pray. Amen.

- "In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." (Zephaniah 3:16-18)

2. Surge in Illegal Immigrants Blamed on U.S. Policy, Memo Says - Washington Times

Illegal immigrants from Central America are surging across the U.S.-Mexico border because they believe they can take advantage of American immigration policy and gain at least a tentative foothold in the country, according to an internal Border Patrol intelligence memo. (Read more)

- Abba, this influx, suddenly, of illegal aliens from Central America makes one wonder if they received an invitation from our government to do so. We know You do not approve of, nor reward lawlessness. We ask for Your mercy, and Your wisdom in dealing with this influx. Obviously, this administration has been planning for this, in that, they are forcing these immigrant children to be housed at our military bases. Give wisdom, O Lord, we pray, in sorting all this out. Amen.

- "You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether one of your brethren or one of the aliens who is in your land within your gates." (Deut. 24:14)

3. Border Sheriff Says Influx of Illegal Immigrants Like Hurricane Katrina - CBS; Dallas - Ft. Worth

Officials say that nearly a thousand illegal immigrants a day are crossing into Texas from Mexico, an anomaly that is now being compared to Hurricane Katrina. (Read more)

- Again, Lord, we need wisdom to know how to handle this influx, and the courage to do whatever needs to be done to control this flow. We ask for Your wisdom, and Your plan to be implemented. Amen.

- "Our God! Won't You execute judgment against them? For we haven't strength enough to defeat this huge horde coming against us, and we don't know what to do, but our eyes are on You." (2 Chronicles 20:12)

4. Newly Installed Homeland Security Chief Admits Need for Border Reform - Washington Times

Both in public and in private meetings, new Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson readily acknowledges there is a border "problem" that needs fixing -- a major departure from his predecessor, Janet Napolitano, whose consistent refrain was that the border was more secure than it had ever been. (Read more)

- Abba, we do ask for supernatural wisdom to be given to this new Homeland Security Secretary Johnson in dealing with the necessary changes to secure our borders, and the ability to carry out those changes. We ask for a solution, a good solution, to be found and implemented quickly, we pray. Amen.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5)

5. Senate Gives Obama Administration $1 Billion for Illegal Kids Surging Across the Border - Washington Times

Senate appropriators on Tuesday added $1 billion to a spending bill to pay for social workers caring for the surge of children pouring across the U.S.-Mexico border, saying the humanitarian crisis is growing so quickly it's outpacing the government's ability to handle it. (Read more)

- Lord, You know the economics of this whole situation, and we ask that You would help Congress find a way to fund this need, without undue pressure on the taxpayer. We know that charities have offered their services for these kids, but their offers have been refused. We don't know if the plan is to bankrupt our nation, but, if it is, that those plans would not succeed. We look to You, O Lord, our Provider. Amen.

- "For He will rescue the needy when they cry, the poor too and those with none to help them He will have pity on the poor and needy; and the lives of the needy He will save." (Psalm 72:12,13)

6. Rep. Duncan: House Will Not Do Anything On Immigration This Year
- CNS News.com

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) says that "based on current events," the House will likely not take up immigration reform anytime soon. "I think immigration reform is a very broad term for a lot of immigration issues. We will not take up the Senate bill. We will not take up a bill that can be conferenced with the Senate," Duncan told CNSNews.com when asked if he agreed with House Speaker John Boehner that the House should tackle immigration reform this year.

. . . a day after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) was defeated by Tea Party challenger Dave Brat in a primary contest that largely focused on the economic consequences of immigration reform, other Republicans also said that the economy was their top priority. Cantor (had) supported the principles of the Dream Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought to America as children. (Read more)

- We praise God today for this news. America is speaking up, at the polls, and Congress is listening. We do not approve a "pathway to citizenship" that circumvents existing laws to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, nor do we approve of countless children being "dumped" over our southern borders. It is time to enforce order on the border, and the House's decision today puts temporary brakes on this whole crisis. Praise the Lord.

- "Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; In holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew." (Psalm 110:3)

7a. ISIS Leader to USA: 'Soon We Will be in Direct Confrontation' - CNSNews.com (Read more)

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), issued a rare audio message back on January 21 in which he flatly stated his group's intention to march on Baghdad and move into "direct confrontation" with the United States. "Our last message is to the Americans. Soon we will be in direct confrontation, and the sons of Islam have prepared for such a day," Baghdadi said. "So watch, for we are with you, watching."

7b. Obama Tells Iraq Unite to Fight ISIL: 'We Can't Do It for Them' - CNSNews.com (Read more)

- Whether this terror group is called the ISIS or the ISIL, their threats need to be taken seriously. We do not want to ever see another "9/11" event in our nation - ever. We ask our Lord to grant His wisdom to our own leaders, who are charged primarily with the task of protecting our own people, as they weigh the threats now being released from a new group of terrorists. We ask for Your mercy, O Lord, amen.

- "Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just. . ." (Psalm 7:9)

8. McCain: Fire Obama's Entire National Security Team - CNSNews.com

In a contentious interview with MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Friday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said President Obama should fire his entire national security team, which has been a "total failure. . . There are no good options" in Iraq right now, McCain said, as city after city falls to Islamic jihadists who plan to establish their own Islamic state stretching from Syria to Iraq.

"I don't know exactly if the air strikes right now are the answer. I'm not sure because I don't claim to be that smart, but I know there are people like Jack Keane and Gen. (David) Petraeus and others who are that smart, and I know that this team that (Obama's) got around him now ought to be fired." McCain said he was talking about "everyone on the National Security team. They have been a total failure." (Read more)

- Praise the Lord for voices in Congress who speak the truth with courage. It is time to call a spade a spade and to demand that those who are not fulfilling their obligations to protect our national security be fired. Pray for this to happen, amen.

- ". . . ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive." (James 4:2,3)

9. Bowe Bergdhal Returns Home - VOA

The U.S. Army sergeant held by the Taliban in Afghanistan for nearly five years has returned to the United States. U.S. military officials say Bowe Bergdahl, who has been treated at a military hospital in Germany, arrived early Friday at an Army medical center in the southwestern city of San Antonio, Texas. A Pentagon statement said Bergdahl will receive the "care, time and space he needs to complete his recovery." (Read more)

- "O Lord of Armies, we come to You, Who knows the heart of every man. We ask You to reveal the truth concerning this former soldier, and ask that justice will be served, whatever that entails. We commit him to You, O Lord, and pray he will throw himself on Your mercy and grace, and receive You as his Savior. In Jesus' name, Amen."

- "He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him." (Daniel 2:22)

10. Pope Condemns Religious Fundamentalism, Middle East Violence - Arutz

Following his first visit to the Middle East as pope last month, the pontiff criticized fundamentalism in Christianity, Islam and Judaism as a form of violence. "A fundamentalist group, even if it kills no one, even it strikes no one, is violent. The mental structure of fundamentalism is violence in the name of God." (Read more)

- Father, we thank You that the pope does not speak for You, but rather You speak for Yourself in Your Word. You told us we would be hated for Your sake. We pray we will be faithful to You all the days of our lives, and we come against spirits of fear and intimidation, that may try to attack us. We look to You for our Strength, and our Stability in such unstable times. Amen.

- "You will be hated by everyone because of Me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." (Matthew 10:22)

The Daily Jot

ISIS: The president's Iraq

So this is for which our boys and girls in the armed forces gave their lives: The president's Iraq? The president's party's pre-election cry was that there were no al Qaeda in Iraq. Today, we see the full blown evidence of how the president's heart toward al Qaeda and all things Muslim has turned into a more dangerous world, and unstable world, brought about by a resurgence of terrorist growth as supported by his foreign policy partner the Muslim Brotherhood in every country where he touted democracy across the Middle East. On the outside, it appears to be an abject failure in foreign policy. To an insider, it may appear a well orchestrated strategy. Certainly, the public evidence supports that theory.

The driving force behind the president's Iraq is Abu Duaa, the fiery leader of al Qaeda's Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Abu Duaa was released in 2009 when the president shut down the Bucca prison camp in Iraq. He has transformed al Qaeda in Iraq and has swept across the country like a 7th Century Mohammad. He sees both Syria and Iraq as an Islamic state, the beginning of a single al Qaeda caliphate, having recruited over 7,000 fighters and controlling large swaths of territory in Northeastern Syria and Northwestern Iraq. Like those terrorist who the president traded for a US deserter, Abu Duaa vowed to fight again, and he has.
In his wake is a form of medieval Sharia Law to govern the conquered areas. It is punctuated, as reported by the UK Daily Mail, by burned out vehicles, decapitated heads placed in rows down streets and abandoned Iraqi soldier and police uniforms shed as they ran from the terror rather than face the carnage. The Daily Mail reported: "Despite vastly outnumbering the jihadists, government troops have melted away in the face of the insurgents, allowing them to capture two helicopters, 15 tanks, weapons and several armored cars that used belonging to the American military....According to bitter Iraqi footsoldiers, their commanders slipped away in the night rather than mount a defense of the city."

Vice President Joe Biden told Larry King on CNN in 2010, "I am very optimistic about -- about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government." Here again, this administration is telling its lapdog media one thing, while a completely opposite strategy is in the works. Now the "president" says he is considering assisting Iraq. Does this mean more American troops being killed and maimed by the very people the "president" supports by his actions throughout the Middle East?

A Gallup poll conducted June 5-8 indicated that 51% of Americans responding said the phrase "is honest and trustworthy" does not apply to the "president." Measuring actions over words, American's can begin to piece together a puzzle that reveals this White House is a threat to the national security of America. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived." Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." What appears to be is not, and what appears could not be, is. From refusal to enforce border security and calling it a humanitarian crisis to supporting terror groups such as the Taliban and al Qaeda by releasing their leaders and giving them arms and assistance throughout the Middle East, this "president" is showing his heart by his deeds.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Obama Surrenders Iraq

Obama Surrenders Iraq

A few days ago, we reported that Al Qaeda is on the verge of taking control of Iraq. The Iraqi government has been desperately asking for our help. They didn't ask for troops, but instead requested American air strikes.

The New York Times reports that American security experts visiting Iraq "were being told that Iraq's top leaders were hoping that American air power could be used to strike the militants' staging and training areas." That was way back in March.

While the world was watching developments in Syria and Ukraine, Iraq continued to unravel. On May 16th, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki called Vice President Joe Biden and again requested U.S. air support.

But according to the Times, "Iraq's appeals have so far been rebuffed by the White House, which has been reluctant to open a new chapter in a conflict that President Obama has insisted was over in 2011." He not only insisted it was over, he took credit for the "victory."

This is no way to conduct foreign policy or handle America's national security. Wars don't end based on Obama's reelection timetable. The enemy gets a vote too. And contrary to Obama's claims, Al Qaeda is not decimated and on the run. It is on the rise while our reputation is on the run.

Mosul and Tikrit fell this week to the jihadists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Today the jihadists are preparing to assault Baghdad because Obama refused to use U.S. air power months ago when it could have made a difference. This is happening not because Obama ended the war -- he didn't end it. He surrendered, and Al Qaeda and its allies, emboldened by Obama's weakness, are still fighting. Hagel On The Hill

Hagel On The Hill

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was grilled yesterday for nearly five hours by members of the House Armed Services Committee regarding the Bergdahl/Taliban 5 deal. While admitting that aspects of the deal were mishandled by the administration, he still defended the trade of five Taliban leaders for a possible deserter.

Here are two things that jumped out at me during his testimony:

1) The Obama White House's excuse for breaking the congressional notification law was that it had to act quickly to save Bergdahl's life and/or health. That leaves the impression that they had mere days. But this deal was in the works for months. CBS News reports that talks with the Taliban "were restarted in September 2013," and "picked up again in April." The White House had plenty of time to comply with the law.

As Byron York notes, the purpose of the notification requirement isn't just to give Congress a "heads up." The notification requirement also includes five specific requirements so that Congress has an opportunity to evaluate and react to any terrorist transfers. Classified assessments determined that "only one of the five released detainees was considered likely to end active participation" with the Taliban. Providing Congress with precisely that kind of information is why the law required notification.

2) Hagel was also asked whether or not any American soldiers were killed while looking for Bergdahl. He said, "I have seen no evidence that directly links any American combat death to the rescue or finding or search of Sergeant Bergdahl." Really? Hagel is splitting hairs and his answer is offensive to the families whose loved ones were killed looking for Bergdahl.
Members of Congress should not let this go. They should call the soldiers of his platoon up to testify. Since they are already violating non-disclosure agreements, let's get their side of the story, on the record, and find out why they were even forced to sign those agreements in the first place. Let's hear from the families of Staff Sgt. Clayton Bowen, Pfc. Morris Walker, Staff Sgt. Kurt Curtiss, Lt. Darryn Andrews, Pfc. Matthew Martinek and Staff Sgt. Michael Murphrey.

The more the American people learn about this deal, the less they like it. A new Rasmussen poll proves the point and underscores the need for continued leadership on the issue. A week ago, Rasmussen found the public split 40%-to-43% against the swap. Now just 29% support it while 54% oppose it. That's a 22-point swing in a week. Keep the heat on! (Gary Bauer; Thursday, June 12, 2014)

Christian Baker: No Gay Weddings

Christian Baker Bucks Order for Homosexual Weddings

A Colorado baker with long-held Christian beliefs who was just ordered by the state's Civil Rights Commission to abide by a judge's order and make cakes for [homosexuals] said NO - that's not going to happen.

"I'm not going to make cakes for [homosexual] weddings," said Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips, in The Blaze. "That violates my First Amendment speech . . . and my duty as a Christian abiding by my Savior."

Mr. Phillips' cake-baking business hit national headlines months ago when he refused service to a gay couple, Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig, who wanted to wed. The two men took their discrimination accusation to the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a lawsuit on their behalf.

Judge Robert Spencer with the Colorado Office of Administrative Courts ruled that Mr. Phillips must serve the same-sex couples. On the heels of that March order, Mr. Phillips stopped taking cake orders.

He appealed his case to the state Civil Rights Commission, which just ruled in the judge's favor.

On Fox News on Thursday, Mr. Phillips decried that ruling and said his Freedom of Religion rights were being pushed to the side. His attorney, Nicolle Martin, agreed and said the order that Mr. Phillips is supposed to now abide by not only requires him to serve same-sex couples-against his religious convictions - but also to take special sensitivity and anti-discriminatory training.

Mr. Phillips' elderly mother, who works at the bake shop, is supposed to take the training, also, Ms. Martin told Fox News.

Mr. Phillips is now considering an appeal.

G-7 Olive Branch to Russia

G-7 Olive Branch to Russia

Russia was pointedly disinvited from a gathering Thursday of the exclusive Group of Seven nations, but it was clear that the international big chill imposed on Moscow over its actions in Ukraine is starting to thaw.

President Obama and other leaders meeting here offered an olive branch to Russian President Vladimir Putin, inviting him to begin to resolve the seven-month Ukrainian crisis and rebuild trust with the West after an estrangement that invited comparisons to the Cold War.

President Obama and other leaders meeting here offered an olive branch to Russian President Vladimir Putin, inviting him to begin to resolve the seven-month Ukrainian crisis and rebuild trust with the West after an estrangement that invited comparisons to the Cold War.

Putin has an opportunity "to seize this moment" and turn the page, Obama said.

Putin should recognize that Ukraine's newly elected president, Petro Poroshenko, is the "legitimate leader of Ukraine," he said. Obama also said he was pleased to see Putin not denounce Poroshenko's May 25 election, adding that it "offers the prospect that he's moving in a new direction."

Although the Group of Seven warned that Russia would face harsher sanctions if it fails to ease months of tension, new economic penalties are on hold, to the evident relief of European nations. The detente with Russia continued with scheduled meetings between Putin and the British and French leaders Thursday in Paris. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to see Putin on Friday. Only Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper refused to meet with Putin one on one when the allies of World War II gather in France to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Putin's Russia was pushed out of what had been known as the Group of Eight over the invasion and annexation of Crimea this spring. The gathering of heads of state was abruptly moved from Sochi, Russia, to the Belgian capital, home to the European Union and NATO. (Read more here.)

- We encourage intercessors to meditate on the Isaiah passage below. While it reads like poetry, the words are prophetic, inspired by God's Spirit, and given by revelation. As we pray into world affairs, let us remember that there is only one nation on earth that is bound to the Lord God by His specific covenant, and that is Israel (not the G7, including our own U.S.). The people of all nations, however, are precious to God, who loves them in Christ, and - through Christ - is not willing that any should perish.
- "Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing." (Isaiah 40:13-15)

Melinda Gates: 'Gates Foundation Has Decided Not to Fund Abortion'

Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates, said the international family planning and anti-poverty group founded by them, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, "has decided not to fund abortion."

In a June 2 statement on the website of the foundation, Melinda Gates explains that she recently sat down for interviews in Toronto, Canada, and while reporters asked about the newborn and child health initiatives of the foundation, "every journalist also focused on Canada's policy on abortion."

"Let me tell you why this worries me," she said.

Gates then explained that spacing "pregnancies in a safe and healthy way" is an approach that works and "saves lives," but "the question of abortion should be dealt with separately."

"[I]n the United States and around the world the emotional and personal debate about abortion is threatening to get in the way of the lifesaving consensus regarding basic family planning," she said.

"I understand why there is so much emotion, but conflating these issues will slow down progress for tens of millions of women."

She continued, "That is why when I get asked about my views on abortion, I say that, like everyone, I struggle with the issue, but I've decided not to engage on it publicly-and the Gates Foundation has decided not to fund abortion."

. . . The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation currently has an endowment of $40.2 billion. It supports programs and provides grants in the United States and in more than 100 countries. "In developing countries," the foundation "focuses on improving people's health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty," states the organization on its website.

Signs and Wonders:

Found! Hidden Ocean Locked Up Deep in Earth's Mantle

Deep within the Earth's rocky mantle lies oceans' worth of water locked up in a type of mineral called ringwoodite, new research shows.

The results of the study will help scientists understand Earth's water cycle, and how plate tectonics moves water between the surface of the planet and interior reservoirs, researchers say.

The Earth's mantle is the hot, rocky layer between the planet's core and crust. Scientists have long suspected that the mantle's so-called transition zone, which sits between the upper and lower mantle layers 255 to 410 miles (410 to 660 kilometers) below Earth's surface, could contain water trapped in rare minerals. However, direct evidence for this water has been lacking, until now.
To see if the transition zone really is a deep reservoir for water, researchers conducted experiments on water-rich ringwoodite, analyzed seismic waves travelling through the mantle beneath the United States, and studied numerical models. They discovered that downward-flowing mantle material is melting as it crosses the boundary between the transition zone and the lower mantle layer.
"If we are seeing this melting, then there has to be this water in the transition zone," said Brandon Schmandt, a seismologist at the University of New Mexico and co-author of the new study published today (June 12) in the journal Science. "The transition zone can hold a lot of water, and could potentially have the same amount of H2O [water] as all the world's oceans." (Melting is a way of getting rid of water, which is unstable under conditions in Earth's lower mantle, the researchers said.)

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
