"Praying for All in Authority"

Monday, August 18, 2014

" Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise."
(Psalm 100:4)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse . . ." (Rev. 19:1)

The Daily Brief

1. Hamas Rejects Egyptian Ceasefire Proposal, Threatens 'Long War'- Israel National News

Hamas has sounded a belligerent tone as negotiations for a long-term truce continue in Cairo.

In a message posted on his Facebook page, Hamas's "foreign affairs" chief Osama Hamdan said the Islamist terror group rejects the current Egyptian proposal, and pledged a "long war" of attrition against Israel.

"Israel must accept the demands of the Palestinian people or face a long war," he said.

Other Hamas officials issued similar statements over the course of Saturday.

Hamdan's Facebook message was posted not long before a message on the Twitter account of the "military wing" of Hamas, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, in which the group vowed to continue its armed "struggle".

- Abba Father, the demands of Hamas are absurd, and would greatly endanger Your special land and people. Father, we ask that You continue to abide in all of this confrontation, protecting Your land and people, and sharing Your wisdom and directions. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them." (Psalm 34:7 NKJV)

2. 'We are in your streets': Secret Service investigates ISIS Twitter taunt that included terror group's flag in photo held up in front of the WHITE HOUSE- Daily Mail UK

United States Secret Service is investigating a photograph blasted out on Twitter which seems to show someone holding up a smartphone, displaying a picture of the ISIS flag, in front of the White House.

The photo appears to have been taken at night on the pedestrian mall occupying what used to be part of Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House's north portico can be seen in the background.

It was first tweeted on August 9 by an account that was later deleted.

'[W]e are here #America near our #target :) sooooooooooooon,' read the message that accompanied it.

- Heavenly Father, ISIS has issued threats, and now it appears they really are present in this nation, and standing before the White House in D.C. Have mercy, Father, and direct the Secret Service how to validate and track down what is happening here so that any violence is blocked, giving Your remnant more time to bring in the harvest of souls for You. We pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "In my distress I cried to the Lord, and He heard me." (Psalm 120: 1 NKJV)

3. Islamic State executed 700 people from Syrian tribe: monitoring group - Reuters

The Islamic State militant group has executed 700 members of a tribe it has been battling in eastern Syria during the past two weeks, the majority of them civilians, a human rights monitoring group and activists said on Saturday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has tracked violence on all sides of the three-year-old conflict, said reliable sources reported beheadings were used to execute many of the al-Sheitaat tribe, which is from Deir al-Zor province.

The conflict between Islamic State and the al-Sheitaat tribe, who number about 70,000, flared after the militants took over two oil fields in July.

"Those who were executed are all al-Sheitaat," Observatory director Rami Abdelrahman said by telephone from Britain. "Some were arrested, judged and killed."

Reuters cannot independently verify reports from Syria due to security conditions and reporting restrictions.

- Heavenly Father, here is another horrific series of events being reported, where people are being mercilessly slaughtered by this demonically controlled group called ISIS. Father, may the reaction to all this mindless slaughter and genocide evoke a rising and appropriate response from the nations of the world. Shake them awake and confront them with what it implies for their lives. We pray in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

-"The violence of the wicked will destroy them, because they refuse to do justice." (Proverbs 21:7 NKJV)

4. Russia, Iran Collaborating to Bypass Western Sanctions- NewsMax

Russia and Iran appear to be working together to get around Washington's stricter sanctions by joining forces in an oil deal that doesn't appear to make much financial sense.

Earlier this month, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and his counterpart in Tehran, Bijan Zanganeh signed a five-year memorandum of understanding in Moscow, which includes helping Iran ship crude oil even into the oil-saturated Russian market, reports Reuters. The agreement appears to be an oil-for-goods swap that will allow Iran to ship out more oil and get around Western sanctions. The deal initially called for Russia to buy up to one-third of Iran's oil exports, up to 500,000 barrels a day, in exchange for equipment and goods, sources told Reuters.

The deal has been in the works since January, and while the Russian government initially announced earlier this month that an agreement had been reached, it later pulled back its statement and released a new one that gave no specifics on volumes or timeframes on the deal, saying just that "volumes are to be determined by market needs."

However, while Russia was not giving details about the deal, The Telegraph of London, quoting sources from Moscow, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed on a $20 billion trade deal with Iran.

Read more:

- Heavenly Father, this articles reports a deal between Iran and Russia that does not bode well for the nations in the west. These western nations need to carefully examine what they have been doing in regards to both Iran and Russia. It is a strong message that these two countries are not going to permit the western nations to dictate and block them, so that a further serious confrontation of these countries as to financial and nuclear power is rising higher than ever. Father, we ask that You rise up and confront the west to modify this impact and modify what could occur. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

-"The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect." (Psalm 33:10 NKJV)

5. Soros Boosts Bet on Market Collapse to $2 Billion - Worthy News

Billionaire investor George Soros has increased his financial bet that U.S. stocks will collapse to more than $2 billion.

The legendary hedge fund manager has been raising his negative bet on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index since late last year.

The latest 13-F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows that Soros Fund Management increased its position in "puts" on the SPDR S&P 500 exchange-traded fund by a staggering amount in the second quarter from the first.

The chairman of Soros Fund Management lifted his position to 11.3 million put options on the S&P 500 ETF (SPY), boosting the short position from 2.96 percent to 16.65 percent. The dollar value of the position soared to $2.2 billion from around $299 million. At 16.65 percent, that position is the biggest slice of the Soros firm's portfolio.

Many experts see such a put position as a wager that the price of the stock market (in this case the S&P 500) will tumble.

However, some experts warn that such tactics might be part of some long-term trading strategy.

Read more:

- Heavenly Father, what is especially chilling about this report is that this man, George Soros, has been tied to previous collapses of finances and stocks. This bet should be taken as an extremely important warning of what he is saying, and how he is involved in it. Awaken Your people to be prepared for famine or for plenty. We pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

-"Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; though they join forces, none will go unpunished." (Proverbs 16:5 NKJV)

6. Gov. Nixon declares state of emergency, imposes curfew in Ferguson- Fox News

MISSOURI GOV. JAY NIXON declares a state of emergency and imposes a curfew in Ferguson after another night of looting in the St. Louis suburb where black teenager Michael Brown was shot to death by a police officer a week ago.

- Abba Father, as time passes it appears that more details are coming forth as to what happened in this town before the shooting. Abba, bring comfort and peace to the people living in this town. We ask that all facets of the truth arise, and for long term resolutions to come forth, so that shop keepers can recover and the community can return to some sort of normalcy. May Your Justice arise and all facts be brought forth and reported. We pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

-"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." (Proverbs 15: 1 NKJV)

7. Perry responds to indictment, calls it a political 'farce,' vows to defend himself- Fox News

Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry responded Saturday to the weekend indictment in which he is accused of abusing his power of office, calling it a political "farce" and vowing to explore "every legal avenue" to combat the prosecution.

Perry, a 2012 GOP presidential candidate with potential 2016 aspirations, was indicted Friday for allegedly abusing his power by vowing to veto $7.5 million in state funds for an agency run by Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, after she pleaded guilty to drunken driving in April 2013 and refused to resign.

Perry vetoed the money after Lehmberg, a Democrat, videotaped acting erratically during her arrest, refused to resign.

"I think Americans and Texans who have seen the video would agree that this is not the type of individual who should be heading up an office that we want to fund," Perry said during a brief news conference in Texas. "I wholeheartedly and unequivocally stand behind my veto . . . I will explore every legal avenue to expedite this matter and bring it to a swift conclusion. I am confident . . . this farce of a prosecution will be revealed for what it is."

The governor said he would take the same action again, given the same facts and circumstances. He also made clear that he would have funded the ethics unit under Lehmberg had she resigned.

. Read more:

- Heavenly Father, it appears that more and more political vindictiveness continues to arise in our nation. Father, have mercy on us and confront this rising tide of lawlessness. In this case where Governor Perry of Texas is accused of abuse of power, be in the midst of all that is exposed, where Your truth and justice arise for all to see. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." (Psalm 32:8 NKJV)

8. You Christian? You're targeted- WND

That's the message from Fox News host Todd Starnes, who has explored the persecution of the faithful in his new book, "God Less America: Real Stories From the Front Lines of the Attack on Traditional Values."

"Through my coverage and through my investigative reporting, I've discovered that it's not just a war on religious liberty, but this is in fact a war that is specifically targeting people of the Christian faith," Starnes said.

In "God Less America," Starnes reveals numerous examples of the intolerance toward Christians that has pervaded the Obama years. He tells of a group of schoolchildren who went to a VA hospital to sing Christmas carols. Upon arrival, they were met by a government officer who told them they were not permitted to sing any songs about Jesus. The officer then handed them a list of government-approved Christmas songs.

Other attacks on Christianity routinely are reported: The condemnation of prayer in public meetings, the removal of Ten Commandments images from public places, the banishment of Nativity scenes, and memorial crosses. Schools that remove Christian references from music or art programs. Bans on Christians meeting in homes. And more.

- Heavenly Father, the churches in the US need to arise and confront the attacks against the expression of their faith. Father, we ask You to awaken more Christian pastors, leaders, and laity to rise up and reclaim their rights of freedom of religious expression. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

-"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance." (Psalm 33:12 NKJV)

9. Parents lose children due to fake medical diagnosis - WND

A Virginia homeschool family has filed suit after a social worker allegedly concocted a false medical diagnosis that government bureaucrats used to take away their children.

The Home School Legal Defense Association is defending Lane Funkhauser and Susan Parker, and their children, whose names were redacted in the copy of the lawsuit released to WND.

HSLDA said all four family members were suffering health problems, making attendance at public school difficult. The parents decided to homeschool their two children and sent the public district appropriate notice.

School officials filed truancy charges, which were dismissed quickly. But in the process, social worker Michael Austin of the Clarke County Social Services agency intervened.

"Austin is not a doctor. He is not a nurse. He is not a psychologist. He is not a medical professional of any stripe," HSLDA said. "But Austin determined that Susan was suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This outdated term refers to a psychological disorder in which a parent contends that her child is ill to draw attention to herself. It is extremely rare, and it requires a proper diagnosis by a qualified professional."

The diagnosis also was wrong, HSLDA said.

- Abba Father, it seems that an increasing number of parents are being falsely accused of abuse of their children by social services. Father, as this article reports, truancy charges are already dismissed, and the accusation of the mother suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which was reported by an untrained non professional, has also proven to be untrue. Father, confront this pattern of lies being brought forth and enable these parents to obtain the return of their children, in Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

-"To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." (Proverbs 21:3 NKJV)

10. Hacking Team is spreading government malware through YouTube and Microsoft Live - Yahoo News

You don't have to click on a sketchy link to end up downloading malware. A new report from Citizen Lab's Morgan Marquis-Boire shows how companies can spread targeted malware by intercepting web traffic en route, sending malicious traffic from an otherwise friendly link. A company called Hacking Team has been using the tactics on traffic from YouTube and Microsoft's login.live.com servers, seeding innocent videos with surveillance software designed to track the target's activities online.

Read more:

- Heavenly Father, this articles reports another pervasive attack on users of the internet, where malicious malware is being downloaded onto computers despite users being careful. This software can 'steal' passwords and track all sorts of actions that will bring identity theft and problems to the users of the computers. Father, we ask that the software providers quickly discover how to close these portal or entry points, so that the internet can be safely utilized without destroying the computers. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

-"It is time for You to act, O Lord, for they have regarded Your law as void." (Psalm 119: 126 NKJV)

3. Israel threatens Hamas with massive retaliation as cease-fire enters final day - Jerusalem Post

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet ministers that Hamas was mistaken if it thought that it could cover its military defeat over the last month with a diplomatic achievement.

A day before the midnight expiration of a five-day ceasefire, Israel sent out clear messages on Sunday that it will respond massively to any type of fire from Gaza and not tolerate a long-term "war of attrition."

"It is not clear whether there will be an agreement," a senior diplomatic official said as the Israeli and Palestinian delegations held indirect talks in Cairo. If no agreement is agreed upon, the official said, there are two possibilities. The first is that no cease-fire extension or agreement is reached by Monday at midnight, and Hamas renews its firing. 8. ISIS 'genocide' aims for Christian-free nation - WND

The attacks on Christians in Iraq by the Islamic State terror army, formerly known as ISIS, amount to 'genocide' in pursuit of a 'Muslim-only' nation, and President Obama needs to stop the 'exterminations,' contend two representatives of Christians in the troubled nation.

WND reported Tuesday atrocities by ISIS include beheading of children, crucifixion, execution and mass burials, sometimes of live victims.

Two advocates for the Iraqi Christian community, which has existed since the time of Christ, told Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel that Obama seems not to realize the gravity of the ISIS threat.

Nahren Anweya of the Assyrian Church of the East told Hannity the beheadings are one tactic in an ISIS effort to kill all non-Muslim. 'They are at full force with this genocide, and I believe the president is very well aware of it,' she said. 'I don't believe he understands the urgency of this genocide.'

She said Christians in Iraq were horrified to hear Obama say the military would protect 'American personnel' but no one else. More on Ferguson

The New York Times is trying to piece together the events that led up to the race riots in Ferguson, just outside St. Louis, Mo. According to the autopsy, Michael Brown was shot six times--twice in the head and four times in the arm. None of the bullets were from behind, as "eyewitness" reports suggested that the policeman was shooting Brown in the back as he surrendered. Brown and his accomplice were stopped walking down a busy street (not using the sidewalk). Brown had a "fistful of cigarillos" that a video tape shows he stole from a liquor store minutes before the incident. From there, the story of Brown's death is diverse, with the police saying one thing and others saying another. Enter antagonizers.

Benjamin L. Crump, the lawyer for Brown's family, used inflammatory words in his statement to the media, "The sheer number of bullets and the way they were scattered all over his body showed this police officer had a brazen disregard for the very people he was supposed to protect in that community. We want to make sure people understand what this case is about: This case is about a police officer executing a young unarmed man in broad daylight." Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by Crump and is the former chief medical examiner for New York City, said, "In my capacity as the forensic examiner for the New York State Police, I would say, 'You're not supposed to shoot so many times.' "

The Muslim-dominated and inspired New Black Panthers have been leading rallies and protests in Ferguson according to various news accounts, one of which shows an alleged Black Panther leading a chant asking "who do we want?" The crowd responds with the name of the officer, Darren Wilson. Then they are asked, "How do we want him?" The crowd responds, "Dead." According to the gatewaypundit.com, a communist group The Revolution Club Chicago (Revolutionary Communist Party) bussed protesters into Ferguson under the banner "Fight the Power, and Transform the People for Revolution!" The New Black Panthers are also instigating protests and trouble.
Professional race-baiters and false preachers Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton also visited Ferguson, according to twitter accounts replete with pictures. Jackson got booed for "passing the plate." Sharpton incited the crowd by accusing law enforcement of a smear campaign by releasing details on the robbery leading up to Brown's death. Sharpton then added that the rioters should turn toward Washington, rather than looting and burning. Here we go...this "president" and his "attorney general" have so pitted race against race by their refusal to enforce laws and to speak calm into volatile situations that many are emboldened to lawlessness. As Christ said in Matthew 24:12, "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." Iniquity can be translated as sin or lawlessness. We are seeing such first hand.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

THE PROBLEM:

Obama Orders Pentagon To Halt Transfer Of Hellfire Missiles To Israel

U.S. President Barack Obama, whenever he can do an end-run around the Republican controlled Congress, loves to hamper and impede Israel every chance he gets. Because he "strongly disapproved" of how Israel defended themselves against the never-ending rocket rain from Hamas, he is striking back in the only way available to him. In doing so, he is sending a message, yet again, of how much he really doesn't like anything about the sovereign nation of Israel. But he had no problem immediately writing a check to Gaza for $47 million in financial aid that you know will wind up in the hands of Hamas buying more rockets and building more tunnels. (Now The End Begins) Read more.

OUR RESPONSE:

If you AGREE with the statement below, we invite you to join us in contacting the office of your own member of Congress and voicing your objection to this action by the President, demanding that Congress respond.

Even though members are out of town, staffers are on hand to answer the phones and they will relay your message to your member.
Here is a suggested script to use when calling:
"I am concerned about President Obama's lack of support towards Israel. Please use the influence of your office to demand that the administration immediately ships any weaponry Israel asks us for. Israel is yet in the highest possible war alert and as it is, they have spent much of their ammunition. I ask you as my Congressional representative to please make a special effort and insure that every request Israel makes to the Pentagon is handled with diligence".

ISIS Planning Terror Attack in U.S.

Intelligence: Islamic State Planning Terror Attack in US, Europe

Concerns grow over IS influence abroad, as intelligence officials claim terror group rivals Al Qaeda in the Middle East.

Members of the Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS) are planning to carry out major terror attacks against targets in the United States or in Europe, American intelligence officials said Saturday.

Five intelligence officials stated to Bloomberg News that there is evidence that the organization is running a sleeper cells around the world, outside of Iraq and Syria. The goal: to gain a greater foothold in the Islamic world - politically and militarily.

According to retired U.S. Army Colonel Derek Harvey, the Middle East is gripped in a "competition for jihadi leadership" between IS and Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, following the falling out between the two groups last year.

Harvey also said that US President Barack Obama has severely underestimated IS's current hold in Iraq and Syria, due to a reluctance to put his "toe, foot, and then leg" back in Iraq.

Social networks and foreign nationals have contributed significantly to the upswing in IS influence in the Middle East, additional sources said, as the US struggles to update its outdated estimation that IS has just 10,000 combat soldiers in the region.

The intelligence community has since discovered that IS is working to recruit foreign fighters to carry out terror attacks abroad, an alarming fact revealed in January by a former member of Al Qaeda.

In addition, forty people were recently arrested in Kosovo over IS connections, a figure intelligence cites as proof that the number of foreign nationals being recruited is far higher than what official data states.

Brett McGurk, deputy assistant US Secretary of State for Iran and Iraq, warned that IS is more formidable than Al Qaeda.

"[IS is] better equipped, they're better manned, they're better resourced, they're better fighters, they're better trained than the Al Qaeda in Iraq that our forces faced," McGurk said on the Charlie Rose show last week, referring to the group's previous Iraqi incarnation.

"It is a global expansionist, global jihadist organization" he said. "It is swollen with foreign fighters and suicide bombers" who will go "wherever the organization tells them to go. And that could very easily be capitals in the region, it could be capitals in Europe and, God forbid, it could be here."

For the moment, however, there is a shred of hope: IS is not as technically apt as Al Qaeda is, intelligence officials say - leaving out the possibility of the group being able to carry out a wide-scale attack, at least for the time being. Economic limitations may also plague the terror organization; IS's rumored two-billion-dollar net worth may make them the richest-ever terrorist organization, but the self-styled "Caliphate" is plagued by economic instability throughout its territory as civil wars in Iraq and Syria continue to rage, making its "state" one of the world's poorest.

Meanwhile, IS has suffered significant losses in US airstrikes in Iraq over the weekend; rumblings, however weak, have also begun in Europe against the Islamists. (Israel National News) Read more

1. Ask our Lord to RISE UP and to cause a spirit of confusion to fall upon the ISIS forces, thereby RESTRAINING THEM from further action. Ask our Lord to rescue the people of Iraq and Syria who are now living under the grip of this barbaric tyranny. We cry out in Jesus' name, amen.
- "He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies." (Isaiah 42:13)
2. Pray for the deliverance of each and every member of ISIS, as well as other terrorist networks. This will require a miracle; thank our God that He is well able to deliver these men from evil, as we cry out for their souls. In Jesus' Name, amen.
- "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned." (Isaiah 9:2)

Good News for Dr. Kent Brantly!

American Ebola Patient Dr. Kent Brantly, says:
'I Am Recovering in Every Way'

Dr. Kent Brantly, the American Christian doctor who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia, released a statement on Friday in which he said he was "recovering in every way," and stated that he was looking forward to being reunited with his family.

He said, "There are still a few hurdles to clear before I can be discharged, but I hold on to the hope of a sweet reunion with my wife, children and family in the near future."

"Thank you for your prayers for Nancy and me," Brantly said in the statement. "Please continue to pray for and bring attention to those suffering in the ongoing Ebola crisis in West Africa."

According to a story carried on www.nbcdfw.com, Brantly, who was volunteering with the charity Samaritan's Purse in Liberia amid the worst-ever outbreak of the deadly virus, has been improving steadily after being treated with an experimental drug earlier this month.

Brantly remained hospitalized Friday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. His comments came in a statement issued through Samaritan's Purse, which is headed up by Franklin Graham, the son of evangelist, Billy Graham.

Fund Established to Help Brantly Family
The website stated that The JPS Foundation is now accepting donations for Brantly and his family, who lost all of their earthly possessions when he contracted the Ebola virus and was returned to the United States for treatment. After his symptoms appeared, Brantly was isolated and was never able to return to their home.

According to JPS, everything is considered contaminated by Ebola and will be destroyed. "No date has been announced for his release from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, but when he is well enough to join his family, they will face the challenge of replacing everything from household items and clothing to computers and children's toys," said JPS in a statement Friday. "All funds will be held in a separate account within the JPS Foundation for the financial support of Dr. Brantly and his family during his recovery.

Anyone who would like to contribute can do so at www.givetojps.org. A drop-down menu allows donations to be earmarked for Dr. Brantly.

Contributions, which are tax-deductible, also can be mailed to:

ALERT: ISIS

Christian workers murdered by ISIS

[This report was forwarded to us from Steve Elliott, Grassfire Ministries.]

From: Eric Watt
Date: August 16, 2014 at 10:30:35 AM CDT
Subject: ISIS quotas and several of our people killed

Deep in the mountains of Northern Iraq the crisis continues. Our team's leaders were informed that terrorists have obtained lists of the number of Christian and Yazidi families and are given "target numbers to meet."

Our leaders called an emergency meeting at a safe place to plan out the next steps. New plans were worked through including map routes, safe houses, and the building of our Community of Hope Refugee Camps.

As the brothers gathered in prayer to ask God's blessing on the task at hand the terrorists stormed their building and without warning set the building on fire. We lost several of our leaders.

We must join together now and stop this evil!

WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:

- Pray TODAY for these families and for RUN's workers who are risking their lives to bring relief to those being persecuted. This crisis is far from over.

- Share this message with your pastor and ask your church to pray during services this weekend.

- Finally, we are trying to build a network of concerned friends to show solidarity with those who are suffering. Go here to sign our solidarity petition.
Thanks for praying and taking action.

Steve Elliott, Grassfire

P.S. If you want to help RUN financially,go here.

- Holy God, we cry out today from the agony of our souls at this report. Abba Father, we AGREE with the words of Eric Watt: "We must join together now and stop this evil!" Help us, O Lord, to know how to pray and comfort those who have lost loved ones in this massacre.

Visit the wicked with Your Holy terror as they rest upon their beds at night, and draw them to You for salvation. We ask in Jesus' name, amen.

- Please meditate upon ALL of Psalm 64. Selah . . .

Navy Reverses Course:

Orders Lodges to Put Removed Bibles Back in Rooms

"A Bible in a hotel room is no more illegal than a chaplain in the military. They are there for those who want them. It's perfectly constitutional and legal to allow the Gideons to provide, at their own expense, this source of comfort for service men and women of faith." -Chaplain Col. Ron Crews

(Washington, DC)-Following outrage, and the cheers of atheists, that the US Navy had banned Bibles from its Navy lodges in June, the military has now reversed its decision.

According to a report in Stars and Stripes, complaints about the presence of Bibles in the Lodges was originally prompted by the Freedom from Religious Foundation. The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty reportedly called the subsequent ban an act of censorship and criticized the Navy for bending to atheist's agendas. Said Navy spokesman Commander Ryan Perry, "That decision [to ban Bibles from the Lodges] and our religious accommodation policies with regard to the placement of religious materials are under review. While that review is under way, religious materials removed from Navy Lodge rooms will be returned."

ERUPTING FILAMENT CREATES 'CANYON OF FIRE' ON THE SUN

A magnetic filament snaking down the middle of the solar disk erupted during the late hours of Aug. 15th. The eruption split the sun's atmosphere, hurling a CME [a Coronal Mass Eruption] toward Earth and creating a "canyon of fire," shown here in a movie recorded by the Solar Dynamics Observatory.

The glowing walls of the canyon trace the original channel where the filament was suspended by magnetic forces above the stellar surface. From end to end, the structure stretches more than 250,000 km--a real Grand Canyon.

Of greater interest to us on Earth is the coronal mass ejection (CME) which billowed away from the blast site: movie. Coronagraph images from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory show that it is a 'halo CME.' In other words, it is heading straight for Earth. Minor geomagnetic storms are possible when the cloud arrives during the late hours of August 18th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. (Spaceweather.com)

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
(Luke 21:25-28)

Today's Birthday

Today's Birthday on the Hill

Almost every day of the year, a member of Congress or a Senator is celebrating a birthday. Let's lift up these men and women, day by day in prayer on their special day, that God might bless them and show them His love for each one. Indeed, let's move together in obedience to the Lord's mandate in I Timothy 2:1-4. It is written:
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today's Birthday Greeting goes to:

Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX)
