House Intelligence chief: CIA report will spur 'violence and deaths' abroad - Fox News
Tensions are growing over the impending release of a Senate report examining the use of torture by the CIA, with a top House lawmaker Rep. Mike Rogers saying that the release will cause 'violence and deaths' abroad.
"I think this is a terrible idea," Rogers said. "Our foreign partners are telling us this will cause violence and deaths...Foreign leaders have approached the government and said, 'You do this, this will cause violence and deaths.' Our own intelligence community has assessed that this will cause violence and deaths." (Read more)
Update: This morning, Senator Dianne Feinstein is stating that this report needs to be withheld because some of its information is not accurate. In the meanwhile, the State Department has placed every American embassy on high alert in anticipation of the release of this report.

2. Obama, complaining of sore throat, diagnosed with acid reflux - Reuters
President Barack Obama, who had medical tests on Saturday after complaining of a sore throat, is suffering from acid reflux, said the president's physician, Captain Ronny Jackson.
Obama, 53, went to Walter Reed military hospital for a fiber optic exam of his throat and since swelling was detected, doctors decided to perform a CT scan as well, Jackson said.
"The CT scan was conducted this afternoon purely as a matter of convenience for the President's schedule. The CT scan was normal," Jackson added.
Jackson said he recommended Obama go to Walter Reed for the tests after the president complained of suffering from a sore throat over the past couple of weeks. ((Read more)

3. Obama nominates Ashton Carter for Pentagon chief - Reuters
President Barack Obama on Friday nominated veteran defense expert Ashton Carter as his defense secretary, a job that will require him to tackle messy wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan and try to fend off potentially damaging budget cuts.
In Carter, Obama chose a policy expert who has worked for 11 defense secretaries. The 60-year-old Carter pronounced himself ready to give Obama honest, strategic advice once he clears U.S. Senate confirmation, which should move quickly early next year.
He replaces Chuck Hagel, who had privately expressed frustration with the administration's strategy on Iraq and Syria and with his lack of influence over the policy, which was driven by the White House. (Read more)

4. Landrieu loses reelection bid in Louisiana to Republican challenger Cassidy - Fox News
Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu lost her reelection bid Saturday in a runoff race with Republican challenger Rep. Bill Cassidy, despite a relentless, against-long-odds effort.
Landrieu, who was seeking a fourth term, trailed by double digits and had lost most of her support going into the election. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting late Saturday, Cassidy had received 56 percent of the vote, to 44 percent for Landrieu.
"There is no quit," Landrieu said in her concession speech. "It's been nothing but a joy to serve this state for over 34 years."(Read more)

Sources in the mainstream media expressed outrage after a grand jury declined to indict a New York City policeman in the death of Eric Garner, but there are 11 significant facts that many of them have chosen to overlook:
There is no doubt that Garner was resisting an arrest for illegally selling untaxed cigarettes. Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik put it succinctly: "You cannot resist arrest. If Eric Garner did not resist arrest, the outcome of this case would have been very different," he told Newsmax. "He wouldn't be dead today.
The video of the July 17 incident clearly shows Garner, an African-American, swatting away the arms of a white officer seeking to take him into custody, telling him: "Don't touch me!"
Garner, 43, had history of more than 30 arrests dating back to 1980, on charges including assault and grand larceny.
The chokehold that Patrolman Daniel Pantaleo put on Garner was reported to have contributed to his death. But Garner, who was 6-foot-3 and weighed 350 pounds, suffered from a number of health problems, including heart disease, severe asthma, diabetes, obesity, and sleep apnea. Pantaleo's attorney and police union officials argued that Garner's poor health was the main cause of his death. (Read more)

6. New guidelines allow racial profiling at border stops, airports - Fox News
New racial profiling guidelines being announced by the Obama administration would restrict the ability of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to take into account religion, national origin and other characteristics during investigations. But they would exempt agents from the Department of Homeland Security who do border checks and screen passengers at airports, according to a U.S. official familiar with the plans.
The official said Friday night that the new guidelines banning profiling exempt the Transportation Security Administration and also do not cover inspections at ports of entry and interdictions at border crossings. The official was not authorized to discuss the guidelines by name and spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement expected within the coming days.
The new guidelines apply to federal law enforcement agents but aren't binding on local police officers who are more likely to have day-to-day contact with community members. Their formulation also long predates high-profile cases, such as the police shooting in August in Ferguson, Missouri, that have placed police treatment of minorities in the spotlight. But they're nonetheless a significant legacy item for outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder and will be unveiled during national conversation about racial bias in law enforcement and community relations with police. 7. More municipal bans on fracking pose setback to domestic energy boom- Fox News
The surge in domestic-energy production that has created millions of new jobs and abundant natural gas and oil is now facing a potential setback, cities across the country imposing bans on the widely-used deep-drilling process known as fracking. At least three U.S. cities and two counties in the November elections voted in favor of such a ban. And courts in Pennsylvania and New York have recently ruled in favor of letting cities have some control over the drilling.
There is little surprise that Texas is at the forefront of the fight between energy companies and other fracking supporters and critics who say the drilling process is noisy, pollutes water supplies and triggers earthquakes. Most of the attention in Texas is now on Denton, a college town near Dallas that sits on the Barnett shale formation that is full of natural gas. (Read more)

8. Barking Dog Dooms al-Qaida Hostage Rescue - Newsmax
U.S. commandos got to within 100 yards of the walled compound where al-Qaida-linked militants were holding American hostage Luke Somers and South African Pierre Korkie when a noise - possibly a dog barking - may have alerted people inside of the raid, U.S. officials briefed on the failed operation said Saturday.
Then the shooting started, The Wall Street Journal says in an analysis of the operation. (Read more)

9. Typhoon Hagupit weakens over Philippines - BBC
Typhoon Hagupit has weakened as it continues to slowly sweep across the Philippines, causing some damage.
At least three people have been killed since the storm made landfall on Saturday but it does not appear to have been as severe as many had feared.
Around a million people have taken shelter in evacuation centres.
But correspondents say Hagupit is nowhere near as powerful as Typhoon Haiyan, which killed thousands of people last year. (Read more)

1. Iran is playing with fire - Ynet News
Did the IAF strike in Syria in response to public declaration by Iranian Revolutionary Guard on transfer of advanced missiles to Hezbollah?
The strikes in Syria on Sunday afternoon, which have been attributed to the Israeli Air Force, were likely intended to prevent the transfer of advanced weaponry from Iran to Hezbollah. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard continues to play with fire by equipping Hezbollah with arms that have the capability to cause widespread losses and destruction in Israel.
The appraisal is based on the fact that the targets were in two distant areas - one near the international airport in Damascus and the other in Dimas, west of the capital, mere miles from the border with Lebanon.
It is widely believed that shipments of missiles and other arms destined for Hezbollah land in Iranian cargo jets at the airport in Damascus, then transferred to a Syrian military storage site, until they are sent to over the border to Lebanon. (Read more)
2. Poll: One-state solution to conflict finds rising support in US - Times of Israel
A growing number of Americans back the idea of a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and over two-thirds of those surveyed in a recent poll published Friday by the Brookings Institution said they would call for a single democratic state should a two-state solution prove unviable.
Of the 1,008 American respondents, 71% said that if a two-state solution fails, they favor a bi-national democratic state over a Jewish state which deprives Palestinians of citizenship. Only 24% of respondents said they "favor the Jewishness of Israel more than its democracy." (Read more)
3. Israel strikes near the Syrian capital: Syrian TV - Reuters
Syrian state television said on Sunday that Israeli jets had bombed areas near Damascus international airport and in the town of Dimas, near the border with Lebanon. An Israeli army spokesman said he would not comment on the "foreign reports". Israel has struck Syria several times since the start of the three-year conflict, mostly destroying weaponry such as missiles that Israeli officials said were destined for their long-time foe Hezbollah in neighbouring Lebanon.
"The Israeli enemy committed aggression against Syria by targeting two safe areas in Damascus province, in all of Dimas and near the Damascus International Airport," state television said, adding that there were no casualties. (Read more)
4. Egypt's Largest Military Maneuver 'Meant for Israel' - Israel National News
Egypt held its "Badr 2014" military maneuver between October 11 and November 6, its largest exercise since 1996 which was only half the size - according to a senior security expert the Nile state has its sights on Israel, despite the peace treaty.
Col. (res.) Dr. Shaul Shay, former deputy head of the Israel National Security Council, detailed the maneuver in Israel Defense on Saturday, analyzing the massive military preparations.
According to Shay, Egypt wants not only to improve security domestically, but also "it hopes to reassert its historic leadership role and become the regional hegemony. With the rise of (President) Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a new generation of military leadership in Egypt has taken control of the country's armed forces." (Read more)

Israeli officials in Jerusalem on Saturday praised US President Barack Obama's nominee to succeed outgoing Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel.

The issue or conflict of the week
Police brutality, the Islamic State, prejudice, budget deficit, amnesty for illegals, border security, government spying, IRS, support for Islam, land confiscation, climate change or global warming, income inequality, marriage, socialist healthcare, Iran, Israel, Russia, China, religious freedom, bullying, school lunches, and I am sure there are a few more. These are issues that kept coming before the public during 2014. They are all things that the president has commented on or have had direct involvement in. In every case, there has been no solution by anyone, but the problem has been pointed out and the people, not leadership, have been blamed. How much blame can you take?
In most every instance of the issue of the week, the "president" makes a comment. He observes the obvious, restates it, and has his press secretary and members of his administration, support his statements. There is a lot of blame passed around, but not much responsibility taken. It's always somebody's fault or something's fault. The deficit continues to rise because the government is spending more than it is taking in, but the people need to "invest" more in their government. Congress is doing nothing on illegal immigration, so the president justifies taking the law into his own hands. We have to stop the Syrian dictator, so we fund "moderate" terrorists. Kids are getting fat, so they must be fed less at school.
Leaders are pointing out the problems, but they have little, if nothing, to do about solving them. The news media excuses incompetence and allows continued ramblings about the problems, but never reports the cause and effect. There are dozens of news analysts talking 24-7, but very few ever place blame or demand accountability. Everybody just seems to want to point out the issue or conflict of the week, but there is never any solution. No one wants to call these people out when they lie. There is just no accountability. I am still getting emails from House Speaker John Boehner thanking me for my support and asking me to follow him on Facebook when I have specifically taken him to task on several issues.
We as Christians seem to want accountability. But herein is the problem. We are not holding ourselves, our pastors, the church accountable to the doctrine of God's word. This is the real conflict or issue. And it seems to reoccur each week. As in 1 Peter 4:17, "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God." However, is not what Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:3,4 true? "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto myths." You see, it starts with us because we are the ones who know the truth. Don't become weary of doing what is right, or demanding and expecting accountability.

Over 1000 Angels Create World's Largest Nativity Scene-Breaks Guinness World Record
More than 1,000 people came together in Provo, Utah, on Monday to break a Guinness world record. They created the world's largest live nativity scene. It featured a variety of performers who made videos and posted them on YouTube. Organizers say it took about a month to round everyone up.
"We also had over 1,000 angels to shatter the world record -- previously it was 800. We had well over 1,000 today," Austin Craig, a participant, said.
"Yes, it's cool we're breaking a world record; yes it's cool we have so many people here. But I think it's cool that we're making a good video that'll inspire a lot of people," Stuart Edge, another participant, said.
Organizers say breaking the world record was secondary to the true reason for the Christmas season - celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. (CBN) Read more.

ICELAND: Holuhraun Biggest Lava Flow in Centuries
If the Holuhraun volcanic eruption continues as it has done, then both the sinking of Bárðarbunga and the eruption itself can be expected to continue for at least several more months.
The longer the current eruption continues, the less likely it becomes that Bárðarbunga will erupt, as had been feared. "Things could develop differently and scenarios involving an eruption under the glacier and in Bárðarbunga are still possibilities," according to the scientific committee of the Civil Protection Agency, as reported by mbl.is.
The scientists pored over data from the way the eruption and seismological events have developed since the beginning of the episode this summer. The earthquake swarm at Bárðarbunga is one of the biggest ever recorded in a mountain anywhere in the world-although the sinking of Bárðarbunga and the intensity of the Holuhraun eruption have both slowed of late.
"Seismic activity and lava production are though still large-scale in comparison to eruptions in Iceland over the last hundred years," the committee explained.
The new lava spewed out from Holuhraun represents the biggest lava flow in Iceland since the Skaftáreldar eruptions (1783-1784) and is likely the world's third-biggest lava flow since that time. (Iceland Review Online) Read more.
