The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty . . ." (Zephaniah 3:17)

The Daily Brief

1. Obama halts Afghanistan troop withdrawal - CNN

The United States will keep its current level of 9,800 troops in Afghanistan through the end of the year, rather than reducing that number to 5,500 as planned, the White House said Tuesday. The announcement comes as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani visits President Barack Obama and attends a series of meetings at the White House.

Ghani has requested that the U.S. consider adjusting its troop withdrawal timeline, with greater support from U.S. troops over the next few years during a transition to a complete withdrawal. "The timeline for a withdrawal down to a embassy center presence, a normalization of our presence in Afghanistan, remains the end of 2016," Obama said in a joint press conference with Ghani on Tuesday afternoon. "So that hasn't changed. Our transition out of a combat role has not changed." (Read more)

- Abba, we thank You that the relationship between President Ashraf Ghani and President Obama is more congenial than with President Karzai. We ask that Your will would be done as to how long US troops remain in Afghanistan. We want our troops home, but if they stay longer to allow the Afghans to maintain control of their country and keep terrorists out of ours, so be it. In His Name, we pray. Amen.

- "If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace." (Exodus 18:23)

2. Terror triumvirate: ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram training together in Mauritania: analyst - Fox News

The world's three most infamous terrorist organizations are working together at Al-Qaeda-run training camps in the Sahara Desert in Mauritania, where dozens of recruits from the U.S., Canada and Europe are being indoctrinated into violent jihad and training for attacks that could expand the so-called caliphate across North and West Africa, according to analysts.

The sparsely populated Islamic Republic weathered Arab Spring demonstrations to remain stable, but shares a border with troubled Mali and is not far from Nigeria, where Boko Haram is based.(Read more)

- Abba Father, the unholy alliance of evil has joined forces in Mauritania. Lord in the authority that You have given believers, we ask You to release the armies of Heaven to fight against this unholy alliance of evil and destroy it before it has the opportunity to spread its evil throughout the Middle East. We use Your word as a hammer to smash these camps in the desert of Mauritania. We use Your word as fire to burn up these camps and their evil ideology. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "Is not My word like fire?" declares the LORD, "and like a hammer which shatters a rock?" (Jeremiah 23:29)

3. Obama to Imprisoned Pastor's Wife: Saving Saeed Abedini in Iran Is 'a Top Priority - Christianity Today

Despite asking the President of the United States in person to "please bring daddy home for my birthday," Jacob Abedini turned seven years old on Tuesday (Mar. 17) without his father, Saeed Abedini. But President Obama marked the Iranian New Year today by demanding that Iran's government "immediately release" the imprisoned pastor and two other Americans.

"Saeed Abedini of Boise, Idaho has spent two and a half years detained in Iran on charges related to his religious beliefs," said Obama. "He must be returned to his wife and two young children, who needlessly continue to grow up without their father."

Marking the start of Nowruz (the Persian New Year), Obama noted: "At this time of renewal, compassion, and understanding, I reiterate my commitment to bringing our citizens home and call on the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately release Saeed Abedini, Amir Hekmati and Jason Rezaian and to work cooperatively with us to find Robert Levinson so that they all can be safely reunited with their families as soon as possible."

"Iran often, as part of its celebration of the new year, gives a reprieve or even frees some prisoners," noted Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice, which advocates for Abedini and his family. "We urge the Obama Administration, as it literally sits across the negotiating table from Iran, to do all within its power to bring Pastor Saeed home. No American should be left behind to suffer unjustly in an Iranian prison simply because of his Christian faith." (Read more)

- Abba Father, we thank You that the president has finally met with Naghmeh Abedini. We pray that he would use all his strength and authority as leader of the United States to gain the release of these three men and to find the fourth. Lord, we ask that the president would find favor with Ayatollah Khamenei and that the Ayatollah would command the release of these Americans. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- The LORD said to Moses, "I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name." (Exodus 33:17)

4. McCaul: Attacking Troops in U.S. 'Not So Difficult to Pull Off' - CNSNews.com

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, says threats to attack U.S. military personnel in the United States "would be not so difficult to pull off."

McCaul spoke to ABC's "This Week," after CNN reported that a group calling itself the Islamic State Hacking Organization posted the names, photos and addresses of around 100 troops online, urging that they be attacked. A Defense Department official told CNN it cannot validate the online posting but is looking into it. (Read more)

- Abba Father, we rebuke the words by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) in Your mighty Name! We declare that our God is greater than any terrorist threat against our military and populace. Lord, we ask that You would blind the eyes of the enemy that they would not be able to find a single one on their list. We ask that You would be a wall of fire around these military personnel and their families. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son." (I John 5:9)

5. House Introduces Bill to Repeal the Patriot Act - The Daily Caller

Some of the strongest reforms to the U.S. national security apparatus ever introduced in Congress were revived Tuesday by a pair of congressmen in the House of Representatives.

Wisconsin Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan and Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie announced in a press release their intention to reintroduce the Surveillance State Repeal Act - a bill first introduced following the Snowden leaks in 2013 that would completely repeal the Patriot Act and the 2008 FISA Amendments Act, as well as introduce reforms to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

The bill would legally dismantle the National Security Agency's most aggressive surveillance programs, including the bulk collection and retention of virtually all Americans' landline phone records justified under Section 215 of the Patriot Act. The repeal of the 2008 FISA Amendments Act would also prevent the agency from tapping the physical infrastructure of the Internet, such as undersea fiber cables, to intercept "upstream" data in bulk, which critics including the ACLU claim the NSA uses to collect data on Americans. (Read more)

- Abba Father, You know all things, and You know the circumstances of our era. Lord, guide and direct our Congress that there would be sufficient tools to discover the enemy, but protect our rights. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it? I proclaim to you new things from this time, Even hidden things which you have not known."
(Isaiah 48:6)

6. Top White House official calls for end to '50-year occupation' - Times of Israel

White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough called for the end of Israel's "50-year occupation" and doubled down on the Obama administration's critique of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a warmly received speech to the lobbying group J Street in Washington Monday.

Speaking to the dovish group's national conference, McDonough became the latest in a series of Washington officials to highlight the administration's displeasure with Netanyahu, while also talking up the permanence of US-Israel ties, repeating Washington's commitment to continued military, security and intelligence cooperation.(Read more)

- Father God, we have such a difficult time reading news like this, as we know that Israel is the "apple of Your eye," and that the land DOES belong to the Jew. We stand in the gap for this statement, whether it is being stated due to ignorance of the historic facts, or with a specific malicious intent towards Israel. Forgive our leaders, dear Lord. They know not what they do. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)

7. Dead Argentine prosecutor was zeroing in on a terror threat to the entire Western Hemisphere - Business Insider

As days go by, the mystery surrounding the death of Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman - who was found shot in the head in his locked apartment two months ago - becomes murkier. But we're learning a lot more about the explosive findings of his decade-long investigation.

Testimony from journalists and government officials suggest that in addition to describing Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's hand in protecting the perpetrators of a 1994 Buenos Aires terrorist attack, Nisman was also working to blow the lid off the workings of Iran's terrorist organization in Latin America. Nisman's decade of work on the subject pointed to Iran. . . (Read more)

Iran and Hezbollah, two forces hostile to U.S. interests, have made significant inroads in Peru, almost without detection.

- Abba Father, we ask that all facts related to the death of Alberto Nisman would be made known, and that justice would be served. We thank You, Lord, that the House subcommittee is now actively investigating the activities of terror cells in South America, particularly in the nation of Peru. We ask that there be smooth communication between the intelligence agencies in all nations of the Western hemisphere, as we seek to track down and to apprehend these terrorists. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

8. CNN To Earnest: Why Does White House Trust Iranian Leader Who Chants 'Death To America'? - CNN

CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta pressed White House press secretary Josh Earnest about why the Obama administration trusted an Iranian Ayatollah who only recently chanted "Death to America."

Over the weekend, Ayatollah Khomeini gave a speech," Acosta said. "And during that speech, there were people in the crowd chanting 'Death to America' and the Ayatollah responded back to them according to various translations, 'Of course, Death to America.' Do those comments give this White House any pause about moving forward with a nuclear deal with that country?"

"Those kinds of comments only underscore why it is so critically important that the United States and the international community succeed in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Earnest responded. "And the best way for us to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapons is sitting down at the negotiating table and getting Iran to make very specific commitments that would prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons." (Read more)

- Father God in heaven, we rejoice to know that the media is now asking the "hard questions" that need to be asked of this administration regarding its policies towards our enemy, Iran. We ask that more reporters would continue to pursue this line of questioning, and that these inquiries would be used by Your Hand as a "wake up call" to the Executive Branch on this issue. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers, amen and amen.

- "I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain." (Psalm 3:4)

9. Russian Military Unveils Revolutionary Electronic Warfare System
- Sputnik News

Russia's new Richag-AV radar and sonar jamming system can be mounted on helicopters, ships and other military equipment to jam potential adversaries' weapons systems from distances of several hundred kilometers away; it has been hailed by developers as having no analogue anywhere in the world.

At a presentation for journalists in Kazan on Wednesday, Russian radio-electronics firm Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern (KRET) announced that it is handing over the first batch of a new helicopter-mounted electronic warfare system known as the 'Richag-AV' to the armed forces. . .

In a combat situation, the system would operate as part of an aviation shock attack group aimed at breaking through virtually any defense system, blinding everything up to and including the US MIM-104 'Patriot' anti-aircraft missile system. (Read more)

- Abba Father, we thank You for this advance warning of what Russia is inventing. We thank You for the knowledge ahead of time so that we can prepare to out do their electronic warfare. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?" (Romans 8:31)

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Israeli group's documentary accuses Hamas of training child soldiers
- FOX News

A new documentary that shows senior Hamas figures in Gaza unabashedly discussing the training of child soldiers and glorifying suicide bombers at military-style youth camps will be Exhibit A for an Israeli group at a United Nations forum in Geneva Wednesday, where it plans to make the case that the world body's relief arm is being used by terrorists.

The 11-minute documentary, called "Children's Army of Hamas" and produced by the Israel-based Center for Near East Policy Research (CNEPR), in association with the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group, is aimed at showing the UN that Hamas is breaking international laws, including those barring the training of child soldiers even as it works with the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. 2. Obama: US can't base policy on 'dim' peace hopes under Netanyahu
- Times of Israel

US President Barack Obama expressed doubt Tuesday about the prospect of a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians emerging in the coming years under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and indicated that no decision would be made about changing Washington's policy of shielding Israel at the United Nations until a new coalition is formed.

Netanyahu "has a different approach" that rejects a two-state solution, making the possibility of a framework deal "dim," Obama said at a press conference at the White House on Tuesday, a reference to pre-election comments made by the PM - since clarified - that a Palestinian state would not be created under his watch. 3. IDF Gearing Up for Conflict in Judea, Samaria - Israel National News

The IDF is preparing for the possibility of a conflagration in Judea and Samaria, according to Israel Hayom. Central Command is carrying out training exercises and acquiring the needed equipment for dealing with the threat.

The reasons for the assessment that a violent confrontation is near include the tense atmosphere in diplomatic relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA), the PA's complaint against Israel at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, and Israel's freezing of PA tax revenues in response, the report says.

"At this point, Abu Mazen has a vested interest in maitaining stability on the ground," IDF officials told the paper, referring to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas by his kunya name. But as time goes by, they said, matters may deteriorate into violence. (Read more)

4. Military Officials Say Hezbollah on the Brink of War - Israel National News

The Lebanon-Israel border has been relatively quiet over the past several months, with no incidents recorded since January. But another war could be on the way - and it will cost billions of shekels, experts say.

Military Intelligence officials, the IDF, and the defense establishment are all preparing for an inevitable full-fledged war with Hezbollah, Walla! News reports Tuesday - due, at least in part, to the increasing boldness of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

"Today more than ever, Nasrallah is willing to take risks with Israel that could get out of hand, instead of being perceived by Israel as weak," a senior defense official told the daily. (Read more)

5. Jewish establishment sounds alarm as White House rhetoric intensifies - Jerusalem Post

ZURICH - Criticism of Israel from the Obama administration has intensified to such a degree that Washington's Jewish leaders are sounding the alarm.

After years of defending their support for US President Barack Obama and his White House, Washington's pro-Israel establishment now fears the train of US-Israel relations is "running off the tracks," in the words of one source. (Read more)

6. Why is the US government intervening in defamation case against anti-Iran group?- Israel National News

With the window open for new ideas on the Two State Solution, it is inevitable some attention might come back to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's ideas for "economic peace" with the Palestinians, which might be necessary regardless of the political situation on the ground. It was a staple of his 2009 campaign to return to the Prime Minister's office, something that has not come to fruition since.

What efforts Netanyahu might have been considering are, at the very least, going to be on the backburner according to Gil Feiler of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies.

"It's not practical. During his first term joint ventures with Jordanians registered a high number of deals, but that was then," said Feiler. (Read more)

7. Saudi Arabia Could Buy the Bomb - Israel National News

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's most explicit warning of the dangers of a "bad deal" with Iran are not that Iran would immediately get the bomb, but that other countries in the region might accelerate efforts to catch up with Tehran.

According to Emily B. Landau of the Institute of National Security Studies, whose expertise lies in nuclear proliferation and armament, all eyes are on Saudi Arabia.

Following Iran, "Saudi Arabia is the #1 contender to get nuclear weapons because there is a perceived relationship there with Pakistan. Saudi Arabia has financed Pakistan's ballistic missile program and there might be some arrangement already in place on nuclear capability," she said. "Saudi Arabia might be able to buy a bomb from Pakistan." (Read more)

8. EU plans to pressure Israel as diplomat warns of 'collision course'
- Ynet News

Leaked report outlines 40 suggestions to sway Israeli policy; EU source: more chance of implementation in wake of Netanyahu rejection of Palestinian state.

An EU diplomatic source told Ynet that there was a definite chance that the recommendations in the report, which the member states have yet to approve, were more likely to be implemented following Prime Minister Benjamin during his election campaign that a Palestinian state would not be created under his rule.

"We are on a collision course," said the European diplomat. "It's clear to everyone in Brussels that there must be a response to these statements." (Read more)

Prophetic Leader or follower?

In our high school football locker room was a hand-made poster that read, "Either Lead Or Follow, Or Get Out Of The Way." Our coach used to say that football was "organized chaos." Before you say, "Oh, here he goes again with another football analogy," bear me out a bit. This world is mostly organized chaos. In fact, it is getting more and more chaotic as we go. This is promised in the Holy Scriptures, consistent across both the Old Testament and New Testament. As the darkness rolls in upon us in these prophetic times, we have to make some decisions about what kind of prophetic person we are to be. Are we prophetic leaders or followers, or are we just in the way? This is important to your very survival.

What I see is a lot of people wondering what to do. They are frustrated and discouraged that morals and ethics and truth and righteousness seem to be lost in the darkness. Each day that passes seems to be an anthem of Isaiah 59:13-14, "In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. And judgment is turned away backward, and justice stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter." These verses seem to describe our current situation as a people and as a nation. It appears that there are shouts in the darkness against it, but they fall on deaf ears.

First there is anger and frustration. Then there is discouragement. Then fear sets in. This appears to be a natural course of human nature. We have to determine in these times whether we are leaders, followers, or just in the way. When people try to lead, there is often a whole group of Christians who pick apart every little detail as if they are examining the sacrificial lamb for blemishes to disqualify it--which is hardly consistent with the lives they lead. Others rush in without any discernment. Others muddle the conversation with endless debate. Now remember, on the vital issues, discernment is imperative. But also remember King David was imperfect in many ways, but he was also a man after God's own heart.

The point is, that our prophetic destiny--how we are living out our lives and contributing to the Kingdom of God here on earth--is important. We need to behave in the authority we have been given as heirs of the living God. I don't mean running around with empty declarations and proclamations disguised as prophecy. I do mean taking spiritual and moral authority in following God, not men. We need to know the word of God--not as it is taught by men with agendas, but rather from God's viewpoint. And then we need to exercise it with the authority of stewardship the Lord has given us. No fear. No discouragement. Extraordinary wisdom and discernment. Making a statement to society. Making disciples. Being the light wherein the darkness must flee.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Israel "Attacked" Again

Verbal Rockets Fired At Israel Again

After Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection last week, I warned readers not to expect an end to the attacks by the Obama White House on the nation of Israel. It is increasingly obvious that Obama has ordered his minions to smear, berate, libel and isolate our ally, even though by doing so they know Israel's and America's enemies will be emboldened.

White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough addressed the left-wing, George Soros funded group J Street yesterday. Channeling the rhetoric of Israel's Islamist enemies, McDonough demanded that Israel surrender Judea and Samaria, saying, "An occupation that has lasted almost 50 years must end."

Israel is not occupying anything, any more than we are "occupying" Texas. Israel, under intense pressure, withdrew from Gaza ten years ago. The territory quickly became a launching pad for rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.

Just a few months ago, Israel discovered intricate tunnels dug from Gaza deep into Israel -- tunnels that were intended for a surprise attack on Israeli communities in which thousands likely would have perished.

Senator Lindsey Graham took to the Senate floor to blast McDonough's remarks. "The language used by the chief of staff of the president of the United States is exactly what Hamas uses," Graham said. "Please watch your language. . . . You're making everything worse, and now you've added fuel to the fire."

But Obama certainly knows that his public isolation of Israel could very well lead to Israel's enemies striking again. Hezbollah is building its own tunnel network and Iranian officers are now directing troops near Israel's borders. (Gary Bauer)

The Culture Wars

The Culture Wars

Establishment voices who insist the GOP should stop talking about abortion need to pay attention to what is happening in Congress right now. Both the House and the Senate are facing gridlock because pro-abortion Democrats are demanding hard-working taxpayers be forced to subsidize abortions.

In the Senate, left-wing Democrats stalled debate on a bill to fight human sex trafficking because the bill contains language, known as the Hyde Amendment, prohibiting the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions. The Democrat delay on the human trafficking bill is holding up a confirmation vote for Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch. Predictably, Democrats are accusing Republicans of sending Lynch "to the back of the bus."

Meanwhile, in the House, pro-abortion groups are threatening to scuttle a deal on Medicare reforms over the Hyde Amendment.

The Hyde Amendment is not something new or controversial. It has been routinely included in spending bills for nearly 40 years because Democrats and Republicans, no matter how they felt about abortion, could at least agree that taxpayers shouldn't be forced to subsidize it. A January Marist poll found that 68% of Americans oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions.

As I have written before, no matter how much they might prefer to talk about marginal tax rates or trade policy, Republicans cannot avoid the culture wars. On issues like this, they should speak up boldly. No American should be forced to pay for even one abortion. (Gary Bauer)

Israel to the Rescue!

ISRAEL TO THE RESCUE:

INNOVATION ADDRESSES THE DESERT

Israel's Arava Desert is a dry and salt encrusted wasteland getting about one inch of water each year. At least, it would be a wasteland anywhere but Israel. As things stand the region's dairies host happy cows producing eight million gallons of milk yearly. Bell pepper crops flourish and Kibbutzim are lush with vineyards yielding shiraz and sauvignon blanc. Israel is home to one of the finest can-do spirits in the world and ready to benefit the world. Even her enemies are welcome in peaceful partnership.

Much of Israel's agricultural land features the same conditions. Wasteful farming practices - such as flooding a field to irrigate it - depleted what water there was by the 1960s. The Israelis pioneered drip irrigation. At one stroke they delivered water to roots more efficiently and cut water losses to evaporation; crop yields grew exponentially. They committed to treating 80% of household sewage as a precious (fertilizing) resource. Their neighbors still tend to dump sewage, threatening public health through contamination of wells and aquifers.
Innovative agriculture is not new to Israelis. When Galilee was a malarial swamp in the 1880s they planted eucalyptus trees to drain the land and transformed the Galil into some of the most fertile farmland in the world. Helping their neighbors is likewise something not new. (Excerpt; Read more here.)

Pastor Saeed's Birthday Greeting to His Son

Pastor Saeed's Birthday Greeting to His Son

In a birthday letter from prison, Abedini told his son, "I long to be there for your birthday and to make this reunion happen, but my chains are keeping me from you." He wrote:

I want you to know that although I might NOT BE THERE and you might feel my absence, there is One who always IS. One who is always there with you and who can meet all of your needs under any condition. I might not be there on your birthday and that breaks my heart as your father. But I know the One who is there on your birthday who is there for you and cares for you more than anyone could imagine. HE IS THERE with you and His name is I AM WHO I AM.

Have researchers discovered the sound of the stars?

A chance discovery by a team of researchers, including a University of York scientist, has provided experimental evidence that stars may generate sound.

The study of fluids in motion - now known as hydrodynamics - goes back to the Egyptians, so it is not often that new discoveries are made. However when examining the interaction of an ultra-intense laser with a plasma target, the team observed something unexpected.

Scientists including Dr John Pasley, of the York Plasma Institute in the Department of Physics at York, realised that in the trillionth of a second after the laser strikes, plasma flowed rapidly from areas of high density to more stagnant regions of low density, in such a way that it created something like a traffic jam. Plasma piled up at the interface between the high and low density regions, generating a series of pressure pulses: a sound wave.

However, the sound generated was at such a high frequency that it would have left even bats and dolphins struggling! With a frequency of nearly a trillion hertz, the sound generated was not only unexpected, but was also at close to the highest frequency possible in such a material - six million times higher than that which can be heard by any mammal!

Dr Pasley, who worked with scientists from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India, and the Science and Technology Facilities Council's Central Laser Facility in Oxfordshire, said: "One of the few locations in nature where we believe this effect would occur is at the surface of stars. When they are accumulating new material stars could generate sound in a very similar manner to that which we observed in the laboratory - so the stars might be singing - but, since sound cannot propagate through the vacuum of space, no-one can hear them."

Nearer My God to Thee

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

Nearer My God to Thee

"He saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to Heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it." (Genesis 28:11-12)

In these perilous times, when all that can be shaken is being shaken, let us return to the "faith of our fathers" and sing the hymns and songs of old.

May we each draw strength in our own time, as we "dig the wells of treasure" to draw upon the strength that carried our ancestors through their own perilous times. Amen.

NEARER, MY GOD, TO THEE

Lyrics:

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone.
Yet in my dreams I'd be nearer, my God to Thee.

Refrain

There let the way appear, steps unto Heav'n;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I'll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I'll fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

There in my Father's home, safe and at rest,
There in my Savior's love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be, nearer my God to Thee.

There are . . . many inspiring true life stories associated with this hymn. Some Titanic survivors said it was played by the ship's orchestra as the ocean liner went down (though other survivors said it was a different song).
