The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Tuesday, April 21, 2015

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty . . ." (Zephaniah 3:17)

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty . . ." (Zephaniah 3:17)

The Daily Brief

1.White House pressured to tie nuke talks to freeing American prisoners - Fox News

The Obama administration is facing mounting pressure to use its leverage in the Iranian nuclear talks to demand the release of Americans imprisoned there - including Saeed Abedini, Amir Hekmati, and Jason Rezaian - as Tehran proceeds with charges critics say are unfair and unjust. (Read more)

- Father, we do pray that the U.S. will use its leverage to negotiate the release of Americans imprisoned in Iran, including Saeed Abedini. We pray for the successful release of these Americans. In Jesus Name, amen.

- "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints . . ." (Ephesians 6:18)

2. US aircraft carrier sent to block Iranian shipments to Yemen - Fox News

US NAVY OFFICIALS SAY the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is steaming toward the waters off Yemen and will join other American ships prepared to intercept any Iranian vessels carrying weapons to the Houthi rebels fighting in Yemen. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for a peaceful solution to this possible interception of Iranian vessels. We pray that Iran will stop its support of Houthi rebels. Help us be alert to any devious actions by Iran. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:36)

3. Russia and America: Stumbling to War - NationalInterest.org

After the Soviet Union collapsed, Richard Nixon observed that the United States had won the Cold War, but had not yet won the peace. Since then, three American presidents-representing both political parties-have not yet accomplished that task. On the contrary, peace seems increasingly out of reach as threats to U.S. security and prosperity multiply both at the systemic level, where dissatisfied major powers are increasingly challenging the international order, and at the state and substate level, where dissatisfied ethnic, tribal, religious and other groups are destabilizing key countries and even entire regions. (Read more)

- Father, we pray over the situation with Russia and Ukraine. This article explains the position that the U.S. should take over Russia and its treatment of Ukraine. Father, guide the decisions of the United States over this situation. We speak wisdom to all those involved regarding this issue.

- "Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise." (Isaiah 60:18)

4. Top diplomat sorry for FBI director's remarks on Poland, Holocaust - Fox News

FBI Director James Comey wasn't wrong when he said some in Poland were accomplices in the Holocaust, but his remarks -- which angered Poles and resulted in an apology Sunday night from America's top diplomat in Warsaw -- hit a raw nerve in a nation that suffered greatly at the hands of the Nazis, according to experts on the last century's darkest chapter.

U.S. Ambassador Stephen Mull apologized for Comey's comments (stating) " ... any suggestion that "Poland, or any other countries other than Nazi Germany, bear responsibility for the Holocaust, is a mistake, harmful and insulting," Mull said after attending ceremonies marking the 72nd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising against the Nazis. "Nazi Germany alone bears responsibility.

"I now have a lot of work before me to make things right in this situation," he said.(Read more)

- Lord God, it is extremely rare when anyone in this administration shows any degree of humility in statements made in public. For this reason, we are grateful and relieved that Ambassador Mull has assumed full responsibility for this transgression, even making a pledge to try to right this wrong. Thank You, Lord, for this breath of fresh air . . . may this be the beginning of a wave of true humility that would sweep through the Executive Branch of our government, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." (John 20:23)

5. European Stocks Slide Most Since January Amid Greek Debt Concern - Bloomberg

European stocks slid, posting the biggest retreat since they began rallying in January, as concern over Greek debt was exacerbated by declines in the U.S. and Asia.

European stocks fell for a second day after reaching a fresh peak Wednesday, taking weekly losses to 2.2 percent. The Stoxx 600's still up 18 percent this year amid European Central Bank stimulus, and trades near the highest level relative to projected profits of its members in at least a decade. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we know these indices are a part of an interwoven global monetary crisis which will impact all of us. We pray that Your remnant people will be directed by You about how to prepare for the global financial collapse that is coming, praying this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Luke 12:34 NKJV)

6. World Finance Leaders See Threats Ahead for Global Economy - Newsmax

The finance ministers and central bank governors ended three days of meetings in Washington determined to work toward "a more robust, balanced and job-rich economy" while admitting there are risks in reaching that objective, the steering committee of the International Monetary Fund said in its communique. (Read more)

- Father, we intercede over the Global Economy. We have heard many predictions over the future economy. Help us prepare our own house for what is to come.

- "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." (John 16:13)

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Coalition partners air out anger to Netanyahu as deadline to form new government nears - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has started getting more personally involved in the effort to form his next government, as the May 6 deadline gets closer.

Netanyahu formally received a two-week extension to form a government Monday morning from President Reuven Rivlin. After May 6, Rivlin can ask any MK to form a government except for Netanyahu.

In recent days, Netanyahu has met personally with all the heads of the parties he intends to bring into the 67-MK coalition he is forming.

He faced criticism and muscle-flexing from all of them. (Read more)

2. Netanyahu and Rivlin refuse to meet with Jimmy Carter -Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin have turned down invitations to meet with former US president Jimmy Carter during his upcoming visit to Israel over his "anti-Israel" views.

Both the president and prime minister declined the invitations after consulting with the Foreign Ministry and the National Security Council.

A senior diplomatic official told Channel 10, which broke the news, that Carter is "a disaster for Israel," and that all Israeli leaders should refrain from meeting the former president, due to his "anti-Israel positions." (Read more)

3. Arab MKs decline Arab League invite - Times of Israel

Arab-Israeli lawmakers declined an invitation by the Arab League for a meeting in its Cairo headquarters in order to focus on more urgent issues facing Israel's Arab community.

After several hours of deliberations, the Joint (Arab) List said Monday that it had decided to turn down the invitation because of timing, but would reconsider it in the future.

Haaretz reported, however, that the decision was made to avoid a possible pushback by constituents for focusing on foreign affairs rather than the more urgent domestic issues facing Arab-Israelis. (Read more)

4. PA ministers leave Gaza after Hamas placed them on house arrest - Jerusalem Post

PA ministers who arrived in the Gaza Strip earlier this week returned to the West Bank after Hamas imposed severe restrictions on their movements and contacts.

Palestinian sources said Hamas had placed the ministers under house arrest in their hotel, preventing them from receiving or talking to anyone.

The 10 ministers were dispatched to the Gaza Strip as part of the Palestinian Authority government's effort to solve the problem of thousands of public employees who have not received their salaries for several months. The ministers were accompanied by 30 senior government officials. (Read more)

5. Smuggled Weapons-Making Coal Seized En Route to Gaza - Israel National News

An attempt to smuggle 18 tons of special "metallurgical coke" coal into Gaza was foiled on Sunday at the Nitzana border crossing, which leads to the Sinai from where the coal was to be smuggled into Gaza.

The smuggled coal, which was seized thanks to the joint activities of the Tax Authority and General Security Service, is used as fuel in firing furnaces to forge metals.

Information from security sources indicates the coal was meant to help Gazan terrorist organizations cast metals so as to create and design weapons to be used against Israel.

Due to the threat, customs inspectors at the Nitzana border crossing decided to seize the goods after consulting with Israel Security Agency (ISA).

"This seizure is one success of many in the meaningful and joint effort...to locate smuggling into the Gaza Strip through the border crossing, with a goal of uprooting this phenomenon completely and ensuring the security of the state of Israel," stated the Tax Authority. (Read more)

6. Defense Minister: Israel Can Rely on IDF -Israel National News

A toast in honor of upcoming Israeli Independence Day was held Monday and attended by the higher echelons of Israel's defense establishment.

On hand, notably, were Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, as well as other members of the Israeli military's general staff.

Ya'alon spoke during the ceremony, praising the IDF's general staff for their professionalism and outstanding conduct.

"Sitting here is the leadership that is supposed to understand the significance of the struggle for independence and at what price," Ya'alon noted. "Sitting here is a general staff very experienced in the management of combat and operations." (Read more)

7. Jordan border residents seek fence to prevent future terror - Times of Israel

Residents of the southern Arava desert have formed a volunteer patrol to counter what they say is a 200-kilometer stretch of the Israeli-Jordanian border that is insufficiently defended and thus vulnerable to terrorist infiltration.

"I'm worried we're going to wake up only after an attack, and I'd be happier if the state paid attention to what's happening here before anyone dies," local farmer Yoram Riati, a former paratrooper and Shin Bet officer who organized the new unit, told Channel 10 television.

The unit is named "Lotar Arava." Lotar is the military's acronym for "counterterrorism." (Read more)

Prayers for the Court

Prayers for the Supreme Court:

Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice

Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice was born in Bronx, New York, on June 25, 1954. . . Sonia Sotomayor is a Roman Catholic, born of Puerto Rican parents in Bronx, NY. She is one of six Catholic members of the Supreme Court, while three are Jewish. Justice Sotomayor's faith has influenced her thinking in that she has demonstrated a special concern for the poor and needy. She also has displayed a lenient view toward illegal immigration, having voted to strike down the Arizona law intended to slow down illegal immigration in that state.

Additionally, Sotomayor voted in favor of Obamacare, in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, agreeing with the Court majority that the imposition of Obamacare upon the American people was constitutional because the Constitution gives Congress the power to tax. Justice Sotomayor's liberal judicial philosophy has been in close agreement with Justices Breyer, Ginsburg and Kagan, and together they composed the 4 vote liberal block in the Court.

. . . Most importantly for the upcoming marriage case, Justice Sotomayor voted with Justice Kennedy and the liberal block to declare the federal portion of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional in United States v. Windsor. She apparently agrees with the harsh rhetoric used by Justice Kennedy that the intent of the Congress was to make those who self-identify as homosexuals "second-class" citizens and to deny them (and their children) the "dignity" that same-sex "marriage" would allegedly bring.
Despite biblical teaching, the Catholic Church's historic teaching against abortion and homosexual behavior, and the current Pope's pronouncement in favor of marriage and life, Sotomayor has ruled against her faith tradition and teaching in favor of abortifacient drugs, against natural marriage, for special benefits to people based on their sexual choices, and against public expression of religion. There is little reason in the natural realm to believe that she would break from the pack to stand for a state's right to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. But our job is to pray that she will do precisely that!
PRAYER REQUESTS:

-Pray that the Spirit of God will move upon Justice Sonia Sotomayor, using all of the memories of her Catholic family upbringing to bring biblical conviction upon her regarding life, marriage, and religious freedom. (Dt 8:1-20; 2 Cor 10:3-6)

- May the Holy Spirit convict her of sin, righteousness and judgment. May she refrain now and for the rest of her tenure as a justice from supporting any law that forces people to do anything the Bible calls sin and that violates their religious conscience. (Mt 3:6-8; Mark 9:42; John 7:24)

- May she bow before the Lord Jesus now and may He enable her to reverse her unbiblical impact upon public policy and the judiciary. (Matthew 12:36; Romans 14:12)

- May each of our Supreme Court Justices, if they have not already, come to a saving knowledge of Christ, just as it is written, that in calling us to pray for all who are in authority, God says He wants "all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (Rom 1:16; 2:9-10; 1 Tim 2:1-8)

- May God move Justice Sotomayor to vote for each state's right to reflect the deeply held faith of a majority of its citizens, especially as expressed by their votes to uphold traditional marriage. May she defend each state's constitutional right to define marriage as between a man and a woman and to uphold that as the standard for recognizing marriages performed elsewhere. (Mt 19:4-6; Act 5:29; 1 Timothy 3:9)

Thank you for praying!

A footnote from CHPP:

"Sonia" (Justice Sonia Sotomayor) means: - wise; comes from the word Sophos (is mentioned 44 times in the Bible) also the same word used to describe the wise men that traveled to see the baby Jesus.

Our prayer for Justice Sonia Sotomayor:

"You desire truth. We call you forth in the wisdom of God to lead this Court into Biblical truth and law. Amen."

Pastors Are Praying!

Pastors Across Nation Pray

Attention to senior pastors, prayer partners and ministry friends:

On April 28th, between 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, the Supreme Court of the U.S. will hear the crucial Gay marriage case. This is a sobering assessment of what ails America. Pastors across the nation are commiting to lead their congregations to pray for SCOTUS to uphold traditional marriage according to the Bible. If they decide to allow same sex marriage in every state, it will be a death blow to the nation and the church, and pastors will be cited for hate crimes.
The American Renewal Project, headed up by Christian political operative David Lane, sent an email newsletter out to more than 100,000 evangelical pastors encouraging them to hold prayer services during the two-hour time frame on April 28 (11:30 am to 1:30 pm) when the Supreme Court hears the crucial same-sex marriage case.
The Supreme Court will decide in June whether the Constitution allows homosexual couples the right to marry no matter where they reside or whether states have the right to say marriage is only between a man and a woman. Lane also is calling on pastors to preach on the topic of biblical marriage on the Sunday before the big Supreme Court hearing. ISIS Brings Waves of Terror to Christians

ISIS Brings Waves of Terror to Christians

The beach is usually a tranquil scene, but on a distant Libyan shore, it was anything but. Men with guns slung over their shoulders led a human chain to the sand, eventually staining the surf with the blood of more than 30 Christians. It was a gruesome sequel to their last video, when Egypt's Coptic Christians, like these men, lay lifeless on the coast -- the victims of savage ISIS beheadings. "To the nation of the cross," the masked killers warn, "we are now back again."

Unfortunately for the Middle East, they never left. Their march through the sandy strongholds of Syria, Africa, and Iraq, only intensifies -- and other nations' concern along with it. The danger to "worshippers of the cross" -- from Kenyan college students to Assyrian Christians -- is bringing the genocide into sharper focus for once-reluctant world leaders, who are running out of ways to condemn the acts.
Even the Obama administration, which essentially dropped the word "Christian" from its vocabulary (except to criticize America's), has reluctantly acknowledged this faith-based targeting. After months of refusing to acknowledge the roots of these attacks, we finally have a White House statement recognizing what the rest of the world already knew: that ISIS is systematically killing Christians.
Late yesterday, the White House joined Ethiopian officials in denouncing the murders. "The United States condemns in the strongest terms the brutal mass murder purportedly of Ethiopian Christians by [ISIS]-affiliated terrorists in Libya... that these terrorists killed these men solely because of their faith lays bare the terrorists' vicious, senseless hostility." While we welcome the President's words, we await his actions. There is no denying the religious-based genocide that ISIS and its affiliates have undertaken.

The Media Speaks Up!

Fox News star goes all out to rescue Christians

Declaring President Obama and other world leaders must no longer tolerate the ongoing slaughter of Christians by ISIS, a prominent media figure is calling for at least 1 million Americans to peacefully march on Washington, D.C., and demand action.

In a Facebook post, Fox News host Greta Van Susteren recalled that many in her parents' generation said they were unaware of the mass execution of Jews during World War II.

"What's MY generation's excuse?" Van Susteren wrote regarding the execution of Christians by ISIS. "We know! We even have videos."
. . . Van Susteren said that while the U.S. is among many nations trying to stop ISIS, "trying is not enough - we need success."

"The fact that we are day after day seeing these videos of executions is proof - we are not succeeding," she wrote. "I know there are many problems here at home in the USA but looking back at my parents' generation, they never said, in the face of genocide, we are too busy with our problems here."

Van Susteren said the only way to get the attention of world leaders is to make a big statement by massive numbers of people marching on Washington and other nations' capitals.

"It has worked before. I don't know what else to suggest. We need our leaders to know our collective priorities - and stopping this genocide is one of them."

Her Facebook post has received more than 28,000 "likes" and has been forwarded more than 18,000 times. Read more at Van Susteren said the only way to get the attention of world leaders is to make a big statement by massive numbers of people marching on Washington and other nations' capitals.

Armenian Genocide Reconciliation

100 Years Later: Armenian Genocide Reconciliation-

April 21 and on the 24th

Request for Prayer

Rosemarie Streseman of Intercessors for Germany asks special prayer for the following:

"Tomorrow on April 21 there will be a major service of repentance with approximately 3000 participants with hundreds of pastors from all over Armenia (Baptists, Free Churches, Protestant circles etc.). This meeting has an immense importance for the brothers in Armenia and Armenians around the world.

A small team of Germans is there with Rosemarie Stresemann and Prince Philip who's grand-father, Kaiser Wilhelm, was in power in Germany at the time of the major genocide against Armenians during the Ottoman - Empire.

This brother, Prince Philip, wants to ask all the participants for forgiveness for the partial guilt of Germany, not helping the Armenians during the genocide 100 years back. He will do that again on April 24th at an Orthodox - church during their service. The 1st service will be live tomorrow at 6.00 pm Armenian time here.

Prayer requests:

- Wisdom to fine - tune the service so that Jesus can do all he wants.

- For protection and a spirit of repentance for all who come from Germany

- For a major healing and encouragement for the Armenian nation

- So that everything that will be loosened on earth will be also loosed in heaven and that the will of God will become reality in our nations and governments."

News from the Knesset

AMIDST STORMY NEGOTIATIONS, PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU GRANTED TWO MORE WEEKS TO FORM A COALITION.

On Monday morning, Prime Minister Netanyahu requested and was granted by President Rivlin an extension of 14 days to form his new government. The month originally mandated would have come to an end on Wednesday. If after two more weeks there is no coalition, the President may choose the leader of another party to attempt to form one.

The past four weeks of negotiations have been stormy. Unfortunately, in the barterings and secret dealings involved with bringing together a government from such disparate groups, truth and honesty themselves often become 'negotiable'. Throughout the negotiations (and this is no exception) it is not uncommon for there to be accusations and counter-accusations of lies and lack of good-faith. As with the foundation of God's own throne (see Psalm 89:14 above), the seat of a truly sound government must have righteousness and justice as a base, and for it to stand and be trusted there must from the start issue forth a character of kindness and truth.
Please Pray:

-That Benyamin Netanyahu will move in cleanness and integrity in choosing his coalition. There were promises made before the elections-those should be kept, whatever the enexpectedly different 'realities' after the votes were cast.

- Pray that he will resist and reject the temptation to seek refuge in a 'different word.' That "justice will be the measuring line and righteousness the level, and that all refuge for lies will be swept away"; that "secret places" of falseness in any of the parties considered for making up the coalition will be overflown and exposed.

-That God will grant Israel a government of strength and integrity to lead His people in the days ahead.

Verses to Decree:

- "I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the level; then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies and the waters will overflow the secret place (Isaiah 28:17).

- "Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of Your throne; Loving-kindness and Truth go before Your face" (Psalm 89:14).

Israel Celebrates Its Independence Day

REMEMBERING ISRAEL'S FALLEN, CELEBRATING HER 67th-AND "LAYING FOUNDATIONS" FOR THE FUTURE

"For not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them. You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob! Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me, but you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us. In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah" (Psalm 44:3-8).

This Monday, April 20th, is Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the second Hebrew month, Iyar. This month (using the ancient Canaanite name Ziv) is mentioned specifically in I Kings 6:1, 37. It was during this month that Solomon "began to build the house of the LORD" and "the foundation was laid." And it was on the fifth of Iyar in 1948 that the "foundation" for the modern state of Israel was laid when David Ben Gurion read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming that the new nation be called by the name Israel. That day will be celebrated this Thursday, April 23rd.

It is preceded by a 24 hour period of memorial for the 23,320 who have fallen in Israel's wars and at the hands of terrorism. Sirens sounded for a minute throughout the nation on Wednesday evening and will do so again at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.

As Yom Ha'Zikharon, the Day of Remembrance, draws to an end, Jews will turn out to celebrate Yom Ha'Atzma'ut-"Independence Day", and modern Israel's 67th BIRTHDAY. There will be revelry in the streets, food, fireworks, and a holiday on Thursday.
PLEASE PRAY:

- Grace from the God of all Comfort (II Corinthians 1:3) upon those who have been bereaved. Pray for revelation that He is also a God of Hope who loves them and has a Future and a Hope.

- Thanksgiving that God has brought His ancient people back into their land of heritage according to His Word, and established and prospered them in that Land for 67 years.

-Protection for Israeli Jews during this day of celebration.

- Many Arabs in Israel and the contested territories commemorate the day of Israel's becoming a nation on the Gregorian date of 15 May, calling it Nakba-"Catastrophe". Please pray for Muslim Arabs to come to Salvation in Yasuah (Jesus)-and for God to grant them His council, wisdom and peace regarding His purposes for both Jews and Arabs in His Land. Pray for racism to be broken down in Israel.

- That all "foundations" which need to be laid in Israel during this month-for a new government, in relations with allies, and within the Body of Messiah-be accomplished. "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Yeshua the Messiah!" (I Corinthians 3:11).

Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

"God and our Father: To Whom be glory for ever."
(Galatians 1:4-5)

In these perilous times, when all that can be shaken is being shaken, let us return to the "faith of our fathers" and sing the hymns and songs of old.

May we each draw strength in our own time, as we "dig the wells of treasure" to draw upon the strength that carried our ancestors through their own perilous times. Amen.

Lyrics:

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.

Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

(Refrain)

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.

(Refrain)

Melody

Praise Him, ye saints of God!
