The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Friday, May 15, 2015

"This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." (I John 5:14,15)

A Rainbow Over the Supreme Court
This photo of the front of the Supreme Court was taken the night before the hearings on gay marriage:

Monday, April 27, at sunset. Please remain with us in prayer over the pending decision on traditional marriage until the verdict has been rendered.

" . . . from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. . . What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10: 6,9)

Thank You, Lord, for watching over this Court. In Jesus' name, amen.

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. 'Erdan Must Find His Place in the Government' - Israel National News

Absorption Minister and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) called on former Interior Minister Gilad Erdan to take back his refusal to join the government. "We exchanged words at the plenum but there was no real, long conversation [about it]," Elkin stated Friday morning to Army Radio. "I am very upset that Gilad is currently staying outside the government and call on him to join it."

Elkin stressed Erdan's very high position in Likud and stated that he should be a minister. "There's no reason he would not be in this government," he said. "Ultimately I believe that Gilad can and must find his place in the government." (Read more)

2. Reuven Rivlin - Born in 'Palestine'? - Israel National News

President Reuven Rivlin was born on September 9, 1939, in Jerusalem. However, according to the Google search engine, the tenth president of the State of Israel was born in "Palestine."

The Mayor of Ra'anana, Ze'ev Bielski, made the shocking discovery. "While working on a speech for the arrival of President to Ra'anana, and I typed his name into Google in English, and then we were amazed to see that says he was born in Jerusalem - in the Palestinian state," Bielski stated to Yediot Aharonot on Friday. 3. Why Everyone's Talking About Israel's New Justice Minister - NPR

Among the faces in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's new right-wing government, one is drawing particular attention: Ayelet Shaked, the new justice minister. Shaked is secular, lives in liberal Tel Aviv, and has a background in the high-tech industry. Ari Soffer, the managing editor of Israel National News, calls her a patriot.

"She's a secular Jew, but she's somebody for whom Jewish identity is very important. She represents Israelis who believe very strongly in Jewish values and the Jewish character of the state of Israel," Soffer says. "In American terms, you'd call her a patriot." (Read more)

4. Israel says Egypt buying advanced Russian air defense system - Israel Hayom

A senior Israeli intelligence official who tracks the regional arms balance said on Wednesday that Egypt was buying Russia's advanced S-300 air defense system, a deal reported in Russian media but not confirmed by Cairo.

Asked about the Israeli remarks, an Egyptian official reached by Reuters did not corroborate them but said that Israel should not feel threatened. "If we are getting such a thing, it's because we're looking east, not north," the official told Reuters, in an apparent reference to Iran, whose nuclear and missile programs worry many in the Arab world, as they do Israel. 5. Four hurt in suspected car-ramming terror attack - Times of Israel

Four people were injured after a vehicle drove into a bus stop in the West Bank, in a possible terror attack Thursday afternoon. The attack occurred outside the Alon Shvut settlement in the Etzon settlement bloc south of Jerusalem, at the site of a similar fatal attack in November.

The deputy head of the Etzion settlement bloc council Moshe Savil told Ynet news the driver came from the direction of nearby Kfar Etzion. "He crossed the highway and with great force struck a group of students who were waiting for the bus," he said. (Read more)

6. Israel says it foiled Palestinian terror attack in east Jerusalem - Jerusalem Post

The Shin Bet and Jerusalem Police prevented a stabbing attack on a Jewish security guard in east Jerusalem, according to a statement by the security agency on Thursday.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said that earlier this month they and the Jerusalem Police arrested three suspects - Muhammad Nasser Ahmed Abassi, 21, Murad Muhammad Uda Kustiro, 23, and a minor - on suspicion of plotting an attack on security guards stationed outside of Beit Ovadia, a Jewish building in the mainly Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan. 7. Nablus clashes with IDF leave 10 Palestinians wounded - Times of Israel

At least 10 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with IDF troops in Nablus on Friday, according to Palestinian officials and witnesses. Palestinians said the army used rubber bullets and live fire. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the clashes, but denied using live fire on the protestors.

Over 1,000 Jewish worshipers were bused into the city to visit Joseph's Tomb, a Jewish pilgrimage site. According to AFP, the worshipers came from nearby Jewish settlements. To protect the visit, IDF soldiers blocked off roads leading to the site, Palestinian witnesses and security sources said.

The Palestinians protested, some throwing stones, before clashes broke out with the army. (Read more)

8. Senior Israeli Official: 'US pressure will be vengeful, require IDF to cease operating in area A' - Jerusalem Post

A senior Israeli official claimed that should Washington pressure Israel on it's policy concerning the Palestinians, it would be for political reasons and as retribution for Prime Minister Netanyahu's victory in March's elections.

Israel radio reported Thursday the statements of a senior Israeli official, who asked not to be identified, suggesting that US pressure may come in the form of requests to prevent the IDF from operating in area A of the West Bank. Such a maneuver, which he said would be part of a reaction to the formation of the prime minister's fourth and increasingly right-wing government, would end the relative calm in the West Bank and spark significant instability. - Father God, Elohim, we repent that our nation is about to lay this grievous burden upon the Israeli people. Forgive us, Lord. We ask that You visit the heart of our "king" (the president) and turn that heart to be a help and a blessing to Isarel, and not a curse. We ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior, our Messiah, Yeshua. Amen.

- "The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will." (Proverbs 21:10

9. Israel 'surprised' by ICC prosecutor's warnings - Jerusalem Post

Israel on Wednesday sparred publicly with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court who warned in an Associated Press interview that if Israel does not provide reliable information, she may be forced to decide whether to launch a full-scale investigation into alleged war crimes based only on Palestinian allegations.

Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem expressed "surprise" that Fatou Bensouda made the comments in the interview in which she said she has not received any information from either side regarding last summer's operation in Gaza, but that it was in the "best interest" of both sides to provide information. 10. Israel 'disappointed' Vatican reached agreement recognizing Palestinian state - Jerusalem Post

Vatican officials stress that although agreement was significant, it certainly did not constitute the Holy See's first recognition of the 'State of Palestine.'

Israel expressed disappointment Wednesday at the Vatican's announcement that it reached the outline of an agreement with the Palestinians and at the Holy See's use of the term "State of Palestine" for the first time in an official document.

This agreement between the Vatican and "Palestine," according to a source in the Foreign Ministry, does not move the peace process forward "and moves the Palestinian leadership further away from returning to direct bilateral relations." (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. House passes Iran nuke review bill - Fox News

Congress on Thursday sent President Obama a bill to give lawmakers the power to review and potentially reject a nuclear deal with Iran. The House overwhelmingly passed the measure, 400-25, a reflection of lawmakers' insistence on having a say in what could be a significant international accord to get Iran to curb its nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

Getting a deal would enhance Obama's foreign policy record, and while the GOP-led Congress doesn't want to see a nuclear-armed Iran, they are skeptical about Iranian compliance and have demanded time to review the fine points of any agreement the White House reaches with Tehran.

Presidential spokesman Josh Earnest said again Thursday that Obama would sign the bill into law. (Read more)

- Lord God Jehovah, we give You all praise and all honor as Congress has now passed this bill and the president has promised to sign it into law. We ask that, when the time comes for Congress to provide oversight on any pending "treaty" with Iran, they would do so to the fullest measure of the law. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long."
(Psalm 71:8)

2. House votes to ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy - Washington Times

The House voted Wednesday to ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy as Republicans delivered a key piece of the pro-life agenda and overcame an embarrassing false start earlier this year. . . . The "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act," the legislation cleared on a 242-184 vote that largely broke along party lines, with just four pro-life Democrats joining in support and four Republicans voting against it.

"We have no higher obligation than to speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves," Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, said. The bill would still need to survive the Senate, where Democrats are likely to mount a filibuster, and to get by President Obama, who has vowed a veto, saying the bill restricts women's choices at a difficult time for them. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for this vote for LIFE in the House of Representatives, and we ask that this bill be now passed in the Senate, and signed into law by the President. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." (Phil. 1:6)

3. Pro-Choice Groups; White House Oppose House Passage of Pro-Life Bill - The Washington Times

While pro-life groups hailed the bill's passage as a pivotal moment, pro-choice groups said the bill is unconstitutional and unnecessary. Abortions after 20 weeks are rare and usually involve some type of medical complication, they said, so the decision should be left to women and their doctors.

"The bill continues to add harsh burdens to the survivors of sexual assault, rape and incest, who are already enduring unimaginable hardship It's disgraceful," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Republicans, though, said Congress had a fundamental duty to act. "You don't have life, you don't have anything else," said Rep. Virginia Foxx, North Carolina Republican. (Read more)

- Lord, once again, this White House is calling good evil, and evil good. We ask You to forgive them, for they know not what they do. We thank You that, no matter how strong the opposition may be to the full implementation of this life-saving law, You are the Greater One and through You, and by Your grace, victory is assured. We decree this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall." (Psalm 18:29)

4. White House Politicizes Tragedy, Blasts Republicans for Proposed Amtrak Funding Cuts - Breitbart

The Amtrak passenger train crash last night has caused many political commentators and legislators to question budget cuts for infrastructure projects, as the news cycle has propelled a white hot political discussion on infrastructure spending.

At the White House, press secretary Josh Earnest was quick to point out during the daily press briefing that President Obama actually supported a nearly $1 billion increase in Amtrak funding while Republicans wanted to cut it. "We've been very clear about what we we believe is the appropriate level of funding for Amtrak," Earnest said, pointing to Obama's budget proposal that would benefit the company. "Republicans, unfortunately, are considering legislation on a committee level that would actually cut funding from Amtrak's budget by, I believe, a quarter of a billion dollars per year." he said.

Earnest added that he hoped that more Republicans would work with Democrats to find an appropriate level of funding for transportation spending. (Read more)

- Father God, we repent that the White House is using the tragedy that happened in Philadelphia this week for its own political "gain." In light of what has happened, we do trust the the Republicans will re-examine this budget cut, even as they struggle to balance a budget now way out of control due to Obama's excesses. We ask that this Amtrak tragedy now be turned to good, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

5. OBAMACARE: A STORY OF FAILURE - Fox News

Hawaii's $205M ObamaCare system on life support, critics fear 'complete waste'

American taxpayers poured more than $205 million into ramping up and operating Hawaii's ObamaCare insurance exchange - but after a steady downward spiral that includes anemic enrollment and website problems, the once-highly praised Hawaii Health Connector system is on life support.

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has already restricted grant funds to the Hawaii Health Connector, after telling officials in March it was out of compliance with the Affordable Care Act because of fiscal instability and ongoing IT issues.

With state lawmakers also blocking additional funds, the system is struggling to stay afloat. The governor's office said it is doing what it can to salvage the situation, including approving $30 million to temporarily transition the local portal to the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov -- where residents could continue to enroll over the next year while problems with the local site are addressed. (Read more)

- Father God, once again we see not only the failure of the Obamacare medical plan, but its absolute devastation for our citizens. We ask that You help the people of Hawaii who are now reaping the fruit of this wicked program, and in Your mercy, help them to recover. We ask this prayer, too, for all other states that are struggling with the same problems today, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten-- the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm -- my great army that I sent among you." (Joel 2:25)

6. DHS caught busing in illegal Somalis from Mexican border - WND

New reports indicate a pipeline has been established through the southern border with the help of the federal agency whose job it is to protect the homeland. They are coming from Somalia and other African nations, according to a Homeland Security official who was caught recently transporting a busload of Africans to a detention center near Victorville, California. (Read more)

- Father, we call on Your help to stop these actions from this federal agency which is supposed to be protecting our borders, and not aiding those who want to illegally cross them.

- "Father, cause Your people to rise up." (Numbers 23:24)

7. Former Pentagon Official: U.S. Subsidizing Russia's Nuclear Weapons Buildup - Canada Free Press

In an interview with Bill Gertz of the Washington Free Beacon, former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Eric Edelman revealed that the United States is, in effect, subsidizing Russia's increasing nuclear weapons capacity-weapons that could be used against the U.S. in any major war with the West. Gertz's report describes how the "Energy Department plans to spend more than $60 million in Russia for nuclear security activities at the same time U.S. and European Union sanctions are punishing Moscow for aggression against Ukraine." (Read more)

- Father, we pray mercy and grace over our country. Protect us from the decisions of our government which has seemed to have lost its way. We hear and accept Your call to pray over the nations during this critical hour. In Your name we pray, amen and amen.

- " . . . to be delivered from the bondage of corruption . . . " (Romans 8:21)

8. Saudi Arabia Promises to Match Iran in Nuclear Capability - New York Times

Saudi Arabia and many of the smaller Arab states are now vowing to match whatever nuclear enrichment capability Iran is permitted to retain. "We can't sit back and be nowhere as Iran is allowed to retain much of its capability and amass its research," one of the Arab leaders preparing to meet Mr. Obama said on Monday, declining to be named until he made his case directly to the president. Prince Turki bin Faisal, the 70-year-old former Saudi intelligence chief, has been touring the world with the same message. "Whatever the Iranians have, we will have, too," he said at a recent conference in Seoul, South Korea. (Read more)

- . . . Father, this article reveals that both the Arab states and Israel oppose part of the deal with Iran that allows Iran to keep in place their research and development plan plus their 5000 centrifuges. In the classic syndrome of "an eye for an eye," the Arab nations now threaten to increase their own nuclear capabilities to match that of Iran. Lord God, this whole "GCC Conference" held at Camp David has now backfired in the face of this president. Father, open the eyes of our officials to see the error in their ways!

- " . . . to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God . . ." (Acts 26:18)

9. Iranian official says Saudi king 'traitor to Islam,' iterates support for Assad - Jerusalem Post

A senior Iranian official branded Saudi Arabia's King Salman a traitor to Islam on Thursday and equated the Gulf state's military assault on Iranian-allied fighters in Yemen with Israeli actions against Palestinians. Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran's national security and foreign policy committee, speaking in Damascus, also reiterated his country's support for the Syrian government, which is battling an insurgency backed by Saudi Arabia. (Read more)

- Father, we recognize this as a sign of the end times when nations will align with each other. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in this situation. Father, call on Your people to pray over the nations, and may they hear and respond to the call. In Jesus Name.

- "For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, [those] nations shall be utterly wasted." (Isaiah 60:12)

10. ISIS seizes government compound in Iraq's Ramadi - Fox News

BAGHDAD - Islamic State militants on Friday captured the main government compound in Ramadi, the capital of Iraq's western Anbar province, after fierce clashes with security forces. Ramadi's Mayor Dalaf al-Kubaisi says the militants raised the black flag of ISIS over the area after troops were forced to withdraw from the compound, which houses most of the city's government offices. He said the IS militants, who also seized other parts of the city, are now attacking the Anbar Operation Command, the military headquarters for the province. (Read more)

- Lord God, ISIS may have raised their own standard over this city and its governmental center, but we raise the Blood-washed Standard of the Lord Jesus Christ over ISIS today and we declare and decree an END to this madness. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19)

A time to speak

Ecclesiastes 3 opens by declaring, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Solomon goes on to write in verse 7, "a time to keep silence, and a time to speak." It is our time to speak. As we head into the weekend, and perhaps even through the doors of our church, it is a time to speak. The Holy Spirit has led me this week, without any preconception, to write about leadership, the nation's moral condition, and the church's role in both. So many have written me expressing their concerns that they are not hearing the Word preached in their church; that self-help teachings are trumping the gospel; that it's like drinking 2% milk because there is no meat. It is a time to speak.

Pastors, teachers, preachers, priests, reverends should not be in the pulpit or in leadership positions if they are not supporting sound doctrine. So many of them have made it clear that you are not to question their teaching because they are God's man in charge. But like in the time of Jesus, the pharisees and sadducees were teaching doctrines of man and had led the eyes of their flocks away from the word and their hearts away from the truth. After Christ's ascension, these religious leaders beat, imprisoned and killed those who taught the truth of Christ. At one point, Peter and the Apostles told them, "We ought to obey God rather than men." Take your Bibles to church. Follow what is being taught. Learn. Speak.

Some have written me saying that most of what their pastor says is good, but he supports certain things that are against the Word of God. I would say, as hard as it is, one thing should happen--either the error is respectfully pointed out to the pastor and he repents, or find another church. But if you are going to speak, know your scripture and its context. Be able to have a discussion, educate, be educated, do so in love, covered in prayer and with great humility. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." This is a delicate subject, but accountability to the Word is paramount.

Pastors, please do not take this message as an affront. You above all, must adhere to the Holy Scriptures. Don't accept what somebody else taught you or is teaching, or the latest thing. Find out for yourself. Renew, reenergize, your love for the Word. If someone questions you, use the opportunity to educate and learn. We are facing a time where people are leaving the church in droves. That means that they are giving up on God, giving up on the certainty of heaven or hell. So many are tickling the ears with what people want to hear, but that leaves them unsatisfied and without a firm foundation to face life. Remember the Word does not return void; those who drink of it do not thirst; those who eat of it, do not hunger. Forget the marketing. Go to the market. It is a time to speak.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

"Grave, but Not without Hope" --

Sister Diana's Testimony on Capitol Hill
about Persecuted Christians in Iraq

(Washington, DC)-Sister Diana Momeka, OP Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, Mosul, Iraq appeared before the House Foreign Affairs Committee today to testify about ancient communities under attack: ISIS' war on religious minorities. Her visit to the United States was sponsored by two Washington-area organizations, the Institute for Global Engagement and 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative.

Following her testimony, which appears below, Sister Diana noted that "The situation for my people and my country is grave, but not without hope. I believe that the international community, and especially the good people of the United States, want to see my government fulfill its responsibility to protect defend, and promote the welfare of all of its citizens. I call on all Americans to raise your voices on our behalf so that diplomacy and not genocide, social well-being and not weapons, and the desire for justice, not selfish interests determine the future for Iraq and all of her children." Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST

"Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations."
(Psalm 90:1)

> > > We dedicate today's classic hymn to the May Day, May Day Call to Prayer, by Anne Graham Lotz . . . mentioned in today's devotional.

Lyrics:

Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

Thy Word commands our flesh to dust,
"Return, ye sons of men:"
All nations rose from earth at first,
And turn to earth again.

A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

The busy tribes of flesh and blood,
With all their lives and cares,
Are carried downwards by the flood,
And lost in following years.

ABOUT CAPITOL HILL PRAYER PARTNERS

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God."
