The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Tuesday, September 22, 2015

"Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by." (Isaiah 26:20)

"Praise Him with the sound of the shofar." (Psalm 150:3)

Abide in Me . . .

This is a photo of a church that was left standing in the recent, horrific "Valley Fire" in northern California. The flames surrounded this building, but miraculously stopped at the property line . . . without the assistance of the firefighters. We praise God for this miracle.

Today's Devotional:

Day Fifteen: Tuesday, September 22, 2015
Jesus faced the same situation during his time here on earth. He knew the nature of his ultimate mission - the purpose for which he had been sent - but the footsteps He had to take between the cradle and the cross were more difficult to identify and respond to.

Today's Verse:

"For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps . . ." (I Peter 2:21)

Join us every night through Tuesday, Sept. 29th, as we abide together in His presence.

Conference number: 605-562-3140 Access Code: 596015# Time: 9:00 p.m. EDT/8:00 p.m. CDT/7:00 p.m. MDT/ 6:00 p.m. PDT

We welcome you all to come and join us in these very special times of worship, fellowship and fresh anointing as we continue our 21-day vigil to Abide in His Glory.

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

The Daily Brief

1. Obama administration seeking Vatican help on American prisoners in Iran - Fox News

The Obama administration reportedly is seeking help from Pope Francis in negotiating the release of three American prisoners held in Iran.

The status of the imprisoned Americans has loomed over the talks over the Iran nuclear deal. While some lawmakers urged the Obama administration to demand their release as a condition of any agreement, the State Department and White House resisted -- saying they needed to keep the issues separate.

With the nuclear deal now expected to be implemented, though, the prisoners' fate remains unresolved. Iran continues to hold Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, former Marine Amir Hekmati and Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian on what their supporters say are bogus charges. (Read more)

- Dear Lord, the negotiators for the Iran Nuclear Deal failed to use their leverage to bring release of these men unjustly held captive in horrible conditions in Iranian prisons. With that opportunity having been missed, we do pray that the Pope will do what he can to cause their release. We bind up any and all under-the-table agreements that would promote each other's causes between the Vatican and the administration when it does not promote the Kingdom of God or harms our country. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

- "There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right." (Psalms 106:3)

2. Obama to host Pope Francis on Yom Kippur - Times of Israel

Pope Francis' historic visit to the White House next week will leave some Jews out. The spiritual leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics is making a brief stop at the White House on Wednesday to meet with President Barack Obama, part of Francis' first visit to the U.S. But Wednesday is also Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the year for Jews.

"The Holy Father has a very complicated schedule for this trip, so we worked with that schedule as best we could," Melissa Rogers, executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, told reporters during a telephone call to preview the visit.

Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser for Obama, said the pope's schedule was partly driven by his attendance at a conference in Philadelphia and the annual U.N. General Assembly in New York, both of which were scheduled close to Yom Kippur. (Read more)

- Father, You know the timing and significance of this week far better than we do. We ask You to orchestrate many divine appointments and meetings among leaders and citizens, that we all may be drawn closer to You, and toward living our lives in love of You. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." (Hebrews 10:22)

3. Huckabee rips Obama as 'most anti-Christian' president ever - The Hill

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is blasting President Obama as the "most-anti-Christian" president ever over his guest list for Pope Francis's state visit later this week. Huckabee said Obama is disregarding Catholic doctrine and insulting the pope by inviting gay rights and pro-abortion activists to the White House event on Wednesday.

"President Obama's classless decision to transform Pope Francis' visit to the White House into a politicized cattle call for gay and pro-abortion activists is an insult to millions of Catholics," he said, according to The Iowa Statesman.

"Why is it that Obama goes to extremes to accommodate Muslim terrorists but shows nothing but disdain for Christians?" the 2016 GOP presidential candidate asked. "This is a new low for an administration that will go down as the most anti-Christian in American history." (Read more)

- Thank You, Lord for this refreshingly straight forward honesty from this Presidential candidate! We pray that all who hear of this statement will come into agreement with it and that this will draw attention to the obvious anti-Christian bias we have lived under for these seven years. We pray for Christians to rise up and pray for God Himself to come to the rescue of our Judeo-Christian heritage.

- "For you have heard my vows, O God. You have given me an inheritance reserved for those who fear your name." (Psalms 61:5)

4. US government says it will now use the term 'sexual rights'- AP

The U.S. government says it will begin using the term "sexual rights" in discussions of human rights and global development. The statement at a U.N. meeting this week comes after years of lobbying from groups who have argued that the U.S. should show global leadership on the rights of people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. The statement, posted on a State Department website, says sexual rights include people's "right to have control over and decide freely and responsibly on matters related to their sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence."(Read more)

- Father, we know that many are "treasuring up for [them]selves wrath in the Day of wrath," especially those who turn people away from You. We ask You to raise up men to proclaim Your Word of "righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come" to the world and the council of nations. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment." (2 Peter 2:9)

5. Ben Carson: 'I Would Not Advocate That We Put a Muslim in Charge of This Nation'- CNSNews.com

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson says Islam is antithetical to the Constitution, and he doesn't believe that a Muslim should be elected president. Carson, a devout Christian, says a president's faith should matter to voters if it runs counter to the values and principles of America.

Responding to a question during an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," he described the Islamic faith as inconsistent with the Constitution. "I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation," Carson said. "I absolutely would not agree with that." He did not specify in what way Islam ran counter to constitutional principles. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for Godly leaders for our country, especially the highest office in the land. We agree with our founding fathers who said we should prefer Christians for our office holders, as only they could have the Mind of Christ as well as divine guidance as they legislate, judge, and govern. We thank You that Dr. Carson understands the Christian foundation of our country and we pray for his protection from elements that are hostile to Christianity.

We pray for You to strengthen Dr. Carson to stand against the onslaught of wrath that this comment is bound to direct toward him. We pray that the voters of our country will consider the effect Islam has on Muslims in general even though individual Muslims may have very good qualities.

- "Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, but the blameless in their ways are His delight." (Proverbs 11:20)

6. Christians Are Being Denied US Visas While 'Cradle of Christianity Is Wiped Off the Map,' Evangelicals Warn - Christian Post

A faith-based global ministry has initiated a "Fostering Families" program in which it's calling on over 1,000 churches in America to take in persecuted refugees from the ongoing crisis. Rev. Kevin Jessip, president of Global Strategic Alliance, said Christians are being wiped out from the Middle East, while at the same time being denied visas in the United States, and it's an urgent time for the rest of the Christian body to wake up and help.

"It's inappropriate for the Untied States of America to discriminate against a minority religion who is in dire need of asylum. These are proven cases at the UNHCR that we've seen of people who have been denied, and are in jeopardy of losing their lives," Jessip told The Christian Post in a phone interview on Thursday. "Not only have they ran and lost everything, but now, in many cases, we are seeing people facing another impending threat, and that is starvation," he said, noting that most of the Christian refugees don't even have basic resources to provide food for themselves.

Grace Knodt, vice president of GSA, who also spoke with CP over the phone, noted the urgency of the situation. "As far as our Christian brothers and sisters are concerned, they are facing imminent death, many of them," Knodt said. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness to all generations, and we know You will be faithful to this generation as well. As fast as the enemy may be moving to displace and deprive many, You can work faster and more abundantly, and we ask You to do so. Show us how we can be part of meeting this need, and give us great joy in serving You. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." (Psalm 37:25)

7. Why GOP Congressional Leaders Support the Iran Deal in Fact - Follow the Money - National Review

Why on earth would Republicans do that?" That is a question I've been asked at least a dozen times since illustrating that the GOP has played a cynical game in connection with President Obama's Iran deal. "Follow the money" is a common answer to questions about political motivation. It may not explain everything in this case, but it is certainly relevant.

This spring, Republican leadership colluded with the White House and congressional Democrats to enact a law - the Corker-Cardin Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act - that guaranteed Obama would be authorized to lift sanctions against Iran (the main objective of the terrorist regime in Tehran).

The rigged law authorized Obama to lift sanctions as long as Republicans could not pass a resolution of disapproval. As Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, and other GOP leaders well knew, there was no way they would ever be able to enact a disapproval resolution over Obama's veto. But the process choreographed by Corker-Cardin meant they would be able to complain about the deal and vote to disapprove it - thereby creating the impression that they were staunchly against the lifting of sanctions that they had already authorized. (Read more)

- Father, You know the motives of all those involved and how this deal unfolded. Whether intentional or manipulated, this agreement is neither in favor of Israel, nor the United States. We ask that You would make known the larger purposes at work of which this agreement is a part so we may better know how to seek You in these matters of foreign policy. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." (Romans 8:27)

8. U.S. Soldiers Told to Ignore Sexual Abuse of Boys by Afghan Allies - New York Times

Rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among armed commanders who dominate much of the rural landscape and can bully the population. The practice is called bacha bazi, literally "boy play," and American soldiers and Marines have been instructed not to intervene - in some cases, not even when their Afghan allies have abused boys on military bases, according to interviews and court records.

The policy has endured as American forces have recruited and organized Afghan militias to help hold territory against the Taliban. But soldiers and Marines have been increasingly troubled that instead of weeding out pedophiles, the American military was arming them in some cases and placing them as the commanders of villages - and doing little when they began abusing children.

"The reason we were here is because we heard the terrible things the Taliban were doing to people, how they were taking away human rights," said Dan Quinn, a former Special Forces captain who beat up an American-backed militia commander for keeping a boy chained to his bed as a sex slave. "But we were putting people into power who would do things that were worse than the Taliban did - that was something village elders voiced to me." (Read more)

- Lord God, we are so grieved to learn of this news, and we ask You to move upon the hearts of our leaders in the Department of Defense to overrule this policy, so that our wonderful men in uniform CAN, indeed, rescue these little boys. Help us, O Lord, we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

- "You are always righteous, LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?" (Jer. 12:1)

"You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways." (Job 22:28)

9. Xi Jinping of China Arriving in U.S. at Moment of Vulnerability - New York Times

Often described as the most powerful leader of the Chinese Communist Party in generations, Mr. Xi is to arrive in the United States on Tuesday facing economic headwinds and growing doubts about his formula for governing - a sharp contrast with the image of unruffled control he projected when he hosted President Obama last year.

Yet he has shown no sign of retreating on an array of disputes that have bedeviled the Obama administration, including those about accelerated construction in disputed waters of the South China Sea and cyberattacks attributed to China that have targeted American businesses and government agencies. China has repeatedly denied having a role in those attacks. . .

Even as Mr. Xi emphasizes his desire for good relations, China's growing challenge to the United States will be in focus during his seven days in the United States. He is to begin in Seattle with a speech to business executives, as well as tours of Boeing and Microsoft, then go to Washington for his first visit there as president and finish in New York with his first address to the United Nations.

Though the Chinese economy has softened, Mr. Xi remains in a strong position for his meeting with Mr. Obama on Thursday. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that our officials will use caution as the leader of this rival country visits. We pray that no information will be given them that will be used against us. We pray that the issues of Chinese aggression in the South China Sea be brought up as well as the cyberattacks on commercial and government computers, although they have denied it. Father, it is also our desire that human rights issues be addressed so that their population may worship You in peace and safety and that forced abortions will be stopped. Thank You, Lord, for working in behalf of those who love You.

- "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5)

10. Syrian army bolstering Iranian terrorism, Netanyahu tells Putin - Times of Israel

The Syrian army is aiding Iran and Hezbollah in building an anti-Israel terror network on the Golan Heights, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday, with the Kremlin strongman responding that Damascus has no time to worry about fighting Israel.

Netanyahu's three-hour meeting with Putin during a lightning trip to the Kremlin Monday came amid reports that Moscow is building up militarily in Syria, and Israeli concerns of a possible clash with Russian forces, which are bolstering embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"Israel and Russia have a shared interest to ensure stability in the Middle East," Netanyahu told Putin at the start of the meeting, according to an account from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office. "And I am here because of the security situation, which is becoming more complex on our northern border. As you know, in recent years, and increasingly in recent months, Iran and Syria are arming the extremist Muslim terror group Hezbollah with advanced weaponry, which is pointed at us and has already been fired at us over the years - thousands of missiles and rockets on our cities." (Read more)

- Father, by the time we publish this news, this meeting will have already come to pass. We thank You for the courage of P.M. Benjamin Netanyahu to go directly to the Kremlin to bring this critical matter to the attention of Russia's president, so that his own dear people be saved from danger. We ask that Putin will, indeed, consider the danger of equipping these armed Hezbollah terrorists with weapons that will further endanger Israel's security on her northern border. In Your name, amen.

- "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

A Muslim president?

The leftist news media in this country seems to be beside itself as at least two Republican presidential candidates are not drinking the "peaceful religion" kool aid that all the other group thinkers swallow and preach on a regular basis about Islam. It started with Donald Trump, who was labeled a racist in prime time by Sunday night's Emmy Award host Andy Samberg. Trump was taken to task after a September 17 town hall meeting in Rochester, NH when he didn't correct a man who called the "president" a Muslim. The LA Times reported that "after days of scorching criticism" Trump defended letting that statement stand, saying he is not morally obligated to defend the "president." But wait, there's more.

Then there was Republican candidate Ben Carson who popped the bubble on the media's love affair with Islam. The Hill reported that "Carson ignited a media firestorm in a Sunday morning interview with Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press," in which he said he "would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation." In an interview with The Hill, Carson said, "I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country. Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and that's inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution." Carson also explained "taqiya," where misleading and lying are allowed by Sharia law to advance Islam.

Carson told The Hill, "We are a different kind of nation. Part of why we rose so quickly is because we wouldn't allow our values or principles to be supplanted because we were going to be politically correct... part of the problem today is that we're so busy trying to be politically correct, that we lose all perspective." Said in a different way, Islam's values and principles are not those of America. Remember the facts--Islam denies Christ is the son of God; continues to enslave women and children; terrorizes those who do not agree with it; brutally murders Jews and Christians and, quite frankly, members of any other religion that dares disagree. How can anyone say that allah and God (YHVH) are the same?

It's also interesting that after nearly eight years of the current "president" in office, that people are still raising the question of whether he is a Muslim. He says he is a Christian. God only knows his heart. But Christ gave us a way to discern these people. In Matthew 7:19, Jesus said, "By their fruits you shall know them." In other words, actions speak louder than words. The "president" has shown 7 years of supporting Islam, and various factions of it, at the expense of this nation-- Arab Spring, Libya, Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, Al Nursa, Iran, Palestinian Authority, and the list goes on and on. He has defended Islam, while criticizing Christianity. There are Christians rotting in Iranian prisons while he does nothing. So is Trump wrong for not defending the "president's" faith? Is Carson wrong for saying no Muslim should be president?

Whispers...the government is a threat

According to a recent September 9-13 Governance poll conducted by Gallup, Americans are equally divided on the question of whether the US Federal Government poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Some 49% of Americans responded "yes," and 49% responded "no." The number of those believing the government is a threat to American rights and freedoms has climbed from 44% since 2006 and 46% early in the current administration. Republicans have remained in the 63-65% range in believing government is a threat. Democrats, however, have increased from 24% in 2006 to 32% in believing government is a threat to citizens' rights--an 8 point jump.

Of those who perceive the government as an immediate threat, 19% say there are too many laws and that government is too big in general; 15% cite violations of civil liberties; 12% say the government is a threat to Second Amendment rights; 10% say there is just too much government involvement in people's private lives; 6% cite infringement on religious freedom; 6% freedom of speech, and 6% believe the government is a threat because it is socialist. Gallup concludes: "The persistent finding in recent years that half of the population views the government as an immediate threat underscores the degree to which the role and power of government remains a key issue of our time."

Essentially, half of the 1,025 adults surveyed believe the government is an immediate threat to citizens rights. I would wager that if you took a survey of anyone who actually owned property in this country, that figure would be far higher. Those who own small businesses would likely register higher as well. In other words, those who have a stake in this country through owning a piece of it and/or doing business here, would believe that the government is an immediate threat. In September 2011, Gallup released a poll that indicated a record 81% of Americans were dissatisfied with the way the country is being governed. These numbers have increased dramatically since the current "president" took office.

Recently, a citizen posed a question to Republican Candidate Donald Trump and made a statement that the "president" was Muslim and not an American. In response, the "president's" press secretary Josh Ernst condemned all Republicans, saying "I don't think that anybody who's been paying attention to Republican politics is at all surprised. The reason for that is that the people who hold these offensive views are part of Mr. Trump's base." Ernst then insinuated that Republicans were "David Duke" racists. This is offensive and insulting. This is an example of the soft tyranny of an overreaching government. And it's why an increasing number of Americans see their government as an enemy, not a servant. Proverbs 29:2 says, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bears rule, the people mourn."

Lyrics

On Jordan's stormy banks I stand, And cast a wishful eye To Canaan's fair and happy land, Where my possessions lie.

Refrain

I am bound for the promised land,
I am bound for the promised land;
Oh who will come and go with me?
I am bound for the promised land.

O the transporting, rapturous scene, That rises to my sight! Sweet fields arrayed in living green, And rivers of delight!

Refrain

There generous fruits that never fail, On trees immortal grow; There rocks and hills, and brooks and vales, With milk and honey flow.

Refrain

. . . When I shall reach that happy place, I'll be forever blest, For I shall see my Father's face, And in His bosom rest.
