The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Quartet to Resume Efforts to Renew Peace Talks - Israel National News

The "Quartet" of Middle East peace mediators announced on Wednesday it had decided to give new impetus to trying to get Israel and the Palestinian Authority to resume peace talks, this time with the help of key Arab states, Reuters reported.

"We have decided to work together ... on concrete steps on the ground in the absence of the peace process in the Middle East and have decided to reutilize the Quartet's activities," the European Union's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini told reporters after a Quartet meeting at the United Nations.

2. PM blames Palestinian incitement for terror attack; IDF hunts killers- Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday blamed Palestinian incitement for a deadly shooting attack that killed an Israeli couple near Nablus on Thursday night. Four of their six children, aged 4 months, 4, 7 and 9, were in the vehicle but were not hit by the gunfire.

"This is a difficult day for the State of Israel. We witnessed an especially cruel and disgusting murder during which a couple was killed. Parents were killed and their children were left orphans. Our heart goes out to the children," Netanyahu told Israeli reporters in his Manhattan hotel, in what was his first reaction to the attack.

"The murderers knew they were killing a father and a mother because the children were there," he said.

4. Senior EU Official Warns Against Rising Anti-Semitism- Israel National News

A senior European Union official on Thursday warned of rising anti-Semitism in Europe as attacks and threats against Jews continue in EU member countries, reports The Associated Press (AP).

European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans said that "in the last couple of years you've seen this age-old monster come up again in Europe."

Speaking before a conference on religious intolerance, he added, "This is unacceptable. I thought we knew better. I wouldn't have thought it would be possible ... but it's happening again."

5. Mass Sukkot blessing takes place near Temple Mount amid tension -JNS

(JNS.org) Fifty-thousand people gathered to pray at Jerusalem's Western Wall on Wednesday as part of a priestly blessing for Sukkot.

The Birkat HaCohanim (Hebrew for "priestly blessing") takes place each year on Chol Ha'moed (intermediate days) during both the Sukkot and Passover holidays. For the past 45 years, the blessing has been conducted as part of a mass gathering at the Western Wall (or Kotel). The event is regularly attended by Israel's chief rabbis, currently Yitzhak Yosef and David Lau, as well as the rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites of Israel Shmuel Rabinovitch.

6. Shin Bet exposes ISIS-inspired terrorist cell - Israel Hayom

Seven Israeli Arabs were indicted before the Nazareth Magistrates' Court on Thursday on suspicion of setting up an Islamic State cell and planning to attack police and military bases. The seven face multiple counts of security violations, including conspiracy to commit an act of terror and criminal possession of firearms.

The suspects, all residents of northern Israel, were arrested in August by the Shin Bet security agency, the Police's Lahav 433 Major Crimes Unit, and the Northern District Police's Minorities Division. The investigation was placed under a comprehensive gag order, which was partially lifted once the seven were officially charged.

1. Chinese warplanes to join Russian air strikes in Syria. Russia gains Iraqi air base - DebkaFile

DEBKAfile's military and intelligence sources report that China sent word to Moscow Friday, Oct. 2, that J-15 fighter bombers would shortly join the Russian air campaign that was launched Wednesday, Sept. 30. Baghdad has moreover offered Moscow an air base for targeting the Islamic State now occupying large swathes of Iraqi territory.

Russia's military intervention in Syria has five additional participants: China, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Hizballah.

The J-15 warplanes will take off from the Chinese Liaoning-CV-16 aircraft carrier, which reached Syrian shores on Sept. 26 (as DEBKAfile exclusively reported at the time). This will be a landmark event for Beijing: its first military operation in the Middle East as well the carrier's first taste of action in conditions of real combat. (Read more)

- Father God, unless You intervene, we can see the clock clearly ticking now . . . leading us to war. Father God, if it is Your will that this be averted, we ask this momentum towards war be reversed, in Your Name. Lord God, please keep Israel protected, even as Your people cry out this weekend, across the globe, for the peace of Jerusalem. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven . . " (Matthew 6:10)

2. Steely Netanyahu Castigates World in UN Speech - United with Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sternly reprimanded the world for rushing to embrace Iran and rebuked Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for renouncing the Oslo Accords. But the most compelling part of the speech was when Netanyahu did not speak at all - glaring instead at UN representatives in silent accusation for failing to stand up for Israel as Iran threatened the Jewish state.

Appearing more stern than usual, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday. He opened his speech by denouncing the world's enthusiasm to embrace Iran in the wake of the nuclear deal. He admonished the world's nations for remaining silent while Iran's leaders threatened to destroy Israel.

In one of the most powerful parts of his speech, Netanyahu silently glares accusingly - for 44 seconds - at the representatives.
> > To read important excerpts from this speech, go here.

- Father God, we thank You that the Lion of Judah roared his warning at the UN yesterday . . . with silence. His silence was, indeed, deafening. May the nations take heed, see the writing on the wall, and refuse to cooperate with Iran's nuclear ambitions. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen and amen.

- "But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him." (Habakkuk 2:20)

3. Netanyahu stuns with 'silent' protest at U.N. WND

In a dramatic speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged the silence of the world community in the face of the imminent threat posed by Iran gaining nuclear weapons was "deafening."

Netanyahu then paused his speech for an unusually lengthy moment of silence in which he stared from the podium. Television cameras panned to show a General Assembly hall conspicuously absent of many delegations. (Read more)

- O God of Israel, we thank You for this man You have placed as "king" of Israel, who is, as David, a man after Your own heart! We thank You for His bluntness, even in silence! We ask You to surround this man with favor, and place Your Words, alone in his mouth. May He continue to give glory to You, we pray, Amen.

- "Now we know that whatever the Law [of Moses] says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that [the excuses of] every mouth may be silenced [from protesting] and that all the world may be held accountable to God [and subject to His judgment]." (Romans 3:19 AMP)

4. Obama puts U.S. on 'fast track' to world government - WND

'Literally just one crisis away from that happening'

The United Nations 2030 Agenda endorsed by President Obama, Pope Francis and the U.N. General Assembly brings the world one giant step closer to true global governance. The U.N. document approved Sunday in New York, "Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," includes in its preamble the call for a "new universal agenda" for all of humanity.

But one big question looms: How does such an ambitious plan get implemented?

The plan bypasses Congress and the legislatures of the world's other 193 nations. Yet, the heads of state agreed to work toward implementation, largely through secret trade deals and backroom bureaucratic rule-making, experts told WND. Very few members of Congress have likely even read the U.N. document that Obama has agreed to implement, says one expert in globalism.

"The only thing they are lacking right now is a sufficient crisis big enough to win enthusiastic public support in America and other nations in the world for full-on global governance," says Paul McGuire, a Fox News and History Channel contributor. (Read more)

- Lord God, as we study Your Word in these end times, we see that there will, indeed, appear a "one world government" -- but that this will be the government of Your kingdom. As we see men struggling to forge a global government by their own hands, we stand in the gap, in repentance. Forgive us, Lord, for trying to do things our own way, and help us return to You, our Shepherd and our Rabbi, to know the way ahead. We do this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

- "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." (Psalm 119:130)

5. Treasury sets Nov. 5 debt limit deadline - The Hill

Congress will need to address the debt limit by Nov. 5 or risk a catastrophic default on the nation's debt, according to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. The deadline is the first the Obama administration has set for raising the $18.1 trillion debt limit, and comes in somewhat earlier than what most experts had predicted.

The timeline gives lawmakers just a few weeks to hammer out some sort of agreement, and sets the stage for what could be a hectic scramble, particularly in the House as Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is looking to accomplish as much as possible before resigning at the end of October. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You that You are aware of all these facts, and You know all the answers. We ask that You lead Speaker Boehner to do only Your will as he works with members of His party , and Congress, to establish this budget plan for next year. We ask this in Your Name, Amen.

- "Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" (2 Chronicles 1:10)

6. US Marines Send a Warning to Muslim Jihadists All Across America - Freedom Outpost

While the Islamic State provides increasing threats and Hollywood style video executions (you have to wonder who is really behind these jihadists) in which they threaten America, the United States Marines simply provide a warning to the "Jihad Johnnys" of the world. Their message is simple, "It's God's job to judge the terrorists . . . It's our mission to arrange the meeting!" (Read more and view their billboard with this message here.)

- Father, we thank You for the spirit of brotherhood that seems to exist among the Marines in this nation. We recognize that they are often extremely patriotic, conservative politically, and committed to the highest standards of integrity and honor. We would ask that these qualities would become contagious to all Americans around them, and we would serve You, and exhibit the highest priorities. In Your Name we pray, Amen.

- "Everyone is to obey the governing authorities. For there is no authority that is not from God, and the existing authorities have been placed where they are by God." (Romans 13:1)

7. Citizenship and the Uma - Jewish Press

US Citizenship and Immigration Services recently announced a change in the loyalty oath for future citizens in respect to the Muslim belief that one may never bear arms against the Uma, the Muslim world. This fact has largely been ignored by the media.

"USCIS Clarifies Eligibility Requirements for Modifications to the Oath of Allegiance"

Effective July 21, 2015, new guidance (PA-2015-001) in the USCIS Policy Manual clarifies the eligibility requirements for modifications to the Oath of Allegiance. Reciting the Oath is part of the naturalization process. Candidates for citizenship normally declare that they will "bear arms on behalf of the United States" and "perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States" when required by the law. A candidate may be eligible to exclude these two clauses based on religious training and belief or a conscientious objection.

. . . This new change in the oath of citizenship, cleverly allows one to elect conscientious objection as a Muslim, even to the degree of refusing to perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces. (Read more)

- Lord of the Nations, we come to You asking for an adjustment of this world's priorities, with regard to religion and tolerance, and also this concept near and dear to our hearts, and Yours: that of allegiance to God and country. We ask that there be an attitude of gratitude among the Moslems in America for the hospitality and protection being offered them. Instead of threatening us, they should be submitting to our laws, and befriending our people, not beheading them. Bring sanity to our world and governments, we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

- "He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the stranger (resident alien, foreigner) by giving him food and clothing. Therefore, show your love for the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. You shall fear and worship the Lord, your God with awe-filled reverence and profound respect; you shall serve Him and cling to Him [hold tightly to Him, be united with Him], and you hall swear [oaths] by His name." (Deuteronomy 10:18-20 AMP)

8. Oregon Shooter "Into Occult, Wiccan" - WND

The Oregon gunman who lined up his victims and asked specifically which ones were Christians before shooting them execution style had a special interest in "magick" and "spiritualism" and had joined a dating website called "Spiritual Passion."

On the site, Christopher Harper Mercer, 26, who killed nine people and injured seven at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg before he was shot and killed by police, describes his politics as "Republican" and his interests as "killing zombies," meditation, the occult and punk-rock music.

He also made clear that he had a disdain for organized religion. Using the handle "IronCross45," Mercer describes himself as a "not religious," man who lives with his parents. He belonged to a group on the site who shared common interests in "magick and the occult." Under the category of "Religious Views," Mercer wrote that he is not religious but is "spiritual" and was interested in "pagan" and "wiccan." (Read more)

- Father God, if there are any pieces in this narrative that is being broadcast to the public today, we ask the You would cause those facts to be revealed, as well. Lord God, we grieve tonight for a lost generation, and we cry out that You would help them to find their way back to You. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "So there is hope for your descendants," declares the LORD. "Your children will return to their own land." (Jer. 31:17)

9. Oregon Gunman Asked Victims If They Were Christians - CBN News

Chris Harper Mercer, the suspected gunman in Thursday's mass shooting in Oregon, apparently asked students if they were Christians before murdering them. The father of a wounded victim told CNN that Mercer reportedly ordered students to stand up and asked if they were Christians.

"And they would stand up and he said, 'Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second. And then he shot and killed them," CNN's Stacy Boylan said. (Read more)

- Father God, tonight we thank You for these brave young believers who literally "stood up" for Jesus, when asked. We are comforted with the assurance that tonight, each one is now resting in Your arms, but we ask for Your supernatural comfort to be with the loved ones they have left behind. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

- "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

10. The Veteran "Hero," Shot at Least 5 Times, as He Stood between Oregon Shooter and His Fellow Classmates - Breaking Christian News

Out of the tragic events in Oregon, yesterday, is emerging a story of heroism by one of the Umpqua Community College students.

Thirty-year-old Chris Mintz, an Army Veteran was reportedly shot seven times when he tried to intervene on behalf of his classmates, attempting to stop the rampage of the shooter who was 26.

Family members described Mintz' actions when he heard gunshots in the classroom next to his. Ariana Earnhardt, Mintz' cousin, told WFMY TV that he "told the people in his classroom just be calm. He met the shooter at the door and said to calm down. He tried to talk to him and talk him out of it."

Mintz' aunt added that when he tried to keep the shooter from entering his classroom, he shot Mintz three times. "[He] hit the floor, looks up at gunman, and says, 'It's my son's birthday today.' [And he] gets shot two more times," Mintz' Aunt Wanda told KCPQ.

Both of his legs were also broken in the shooting. Amazingly, none of his vital organs were hit, a Daily Mail report said, and he is expected to recover following surgery he underwent on Thursday. (Read more)

- Lord God, thank You. May this courageous young man, who was unarmed at the time of these shootings, be healed quickly and completely, and may his example of heroism serve as a beacon of light in this sea of darkness. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5)

President ignores Christian component in politicizing Oregon shootings

With hardly a heartbeat of time passing, the president blamed the shooting deaths of 10 people (including the gunman) on the lack of gun control in America. In his "news conference," which was a tirade against the Second Amendment, he said, "Well, this is something we should politicize...This is a political choice that we make to allow this to happen every few months in America...So the notion that gun violence is somehow different, that our freedom and our Constitution prohibits any modest regulation of how we use a deadly weapon, when there are law-abiding gun owners all across the country who could hunt and protect their families and do everything they do under such regulations doesn't make sense."

Let us be reminded that the majority of mass killings in the US have been perpetrated by Islamists or Nazi sympathizers--who were allies in World War II and have very similar beliefs against Christians and Jews. The shooter, Chris Harper-Mercer was a mixed-race 26 year old who identified with the Nazis, praising the mass shootings at Columbine and Sandy Hook--this according to the UK Daily Mail. Reports are that this mentally ill man specifically asked his victims one by one if they were Christian before saying "Good, you'll see God in a second." Then he gunned them down. The "president" should examine how gun laws don't work and how his own rhetoric against Christians has possibly encouraged such hate.

Oregon, along with 18 other states, requires universal background checks before firearm purchases. Like most liberal feel-good laws, the background check didn't work. In states and cities where gun control is the strictest, gun crimes are the highest. That's why the "president" wouldn't cite the statistics. Gun control allows the criminals to have guns and the law abiding to be the victims. The belief against guns at Umpqua Community College was so vigorous that it was a "gun free zone" with only one unarmed security officer. Now nine sons and daughters are the cold victims of another type of insanity--liberal belief that criminals and crazies won't get guns because of laws and good intentions.

Worse yet, is a president that uses every opportunity to politicize the deaths of Christian Americans by pitting people against one another. This was a crime against Christians--something the president didn't mention in his rant. He and his Administration released a report in 2009 demonizing conservative pro-life Christian gun owners as extremists. His silence is deafening as an estimated 500,000-plus Christians have been massacred by Muslims in the wake of the Arab Spring supported by the "president." And in his remarks in the aftermath of this mass killing, he ignores that Christians were asked their faith and killed because of it, and blames guns. This brings to mind the prophecy of Jesus in Matthew 24:9, "Ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake." Sadly, even by our own president.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

2nd House Vote Against PP

Second House Vote Against Planned Parenthood

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood for a second time after a day of testimony by the group's president. Hearings in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee highlighted what videos from the Center for Medical Progress has shown - that Planned Parenthood takes money in exchange for aborted baby parts. And it's not the full-service "women's health care provider" that supporters often claim.

"In the history of Planned Parenthood, they have never, ever, ever done one mammogram," Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas said during debate, "because they are not certified to do mammograms. They bring people in and refer them out to get their mammograms. Look, I want good women's healthcare. So, let's fund it, but, let's give it directly to the facilities that will do the mammograms and not Planned Parenthood - for them to take their cut."
The hearing also documented that many of the top execs in the organization make six-figure incomes, including President Cecile Richards who takes home more almost $600,000 each year in salary alone.

Planned Parenthood has argued that taking funding from them would harm women. Richards has stated that the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 would, "block access for folks who deserve high-quality, compassionate care."

"It does not reduce public health funding by a single dime," said Rep. Dianne Black, the author of the bill, "and it would, in fact, increase that funding for community health centers by $235 million dollars."

That's money that community health centers could use to provide the kind of care women need without supporting the nation's largest abortion seller.

"Should we force taxpayers to fund an organization whose barbaric practices, as vividly shown in those videos, disregard and devalue the sanctity of the most innocent human lives?" asked Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California in debate. "There is no reason - absolutely no reason - that we must choose between funding women's health and compelling taxpayers to support abortion."

The Alliance Defending Freedom has launched a website to help women find alternative clinics.

Something We Should Politicize . . .

Something We Should Politicize . . .

Last night as our family gathered for our evening prayers, we prayed for the injured and the families of those killed yesterday at Umpqua Community College in Oregon by an anti-Christian gunman. We didn't know the names or all the details at the time only that Christians were specifically targeted. According to witnesses the gunman asked his victims what their religion was. If they responded they were Christians, he shot them in the head. If they did not answer, he shot them in the leg.

Those details were not discussed yesterday by President Obama when he spoke to the media about the shooting. Nor did he mention the heroic actions of 10-year Army veteran and 30-year-old father, Chris Mintz, who was shot multiple times when he tried to stop the shooter. Rather, he immediately began using the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of nine people to advance his agenda for more laws restricting gun ownership. In his press conference, the President said some would claim he was politicizing the shooting, "Well, this is something we should politicize."

I agree. We should politicize the fact that the "security guards" were unarmed. That the college campus was a "gun-free" zone that prohibits law abiding citizens from protecting themselves and others. We should politicize the toxic environment that President Obama's policies have fostered toward Christians. We should politicize the fact that the President continues to not just tolerate, but fights for policies that further coarsen our culture and devalue human life. (Family Research Council)

Bibi Stares Down U.N.

Bibi Stares Down U.N.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an incredibly powerful speech before the United Nations General Assembly today. At one point, Netanyahu lambasted the delegates for remaining silent in the face of repeated promises by Iran's supreme leader to destroy Israel.

He then proceeded to stare down the delegates -- saying more in 45 seconds of silence than Barack Obama says during an entire speech! Watch it here. (Gary Bauer)

Billy Graham's Final Book

Billy Graham Explores Eternity in Final Book: 'Where I Am'

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." -Jesus (John 14:1-3)

Billy Graham holds fast to the promise that he, like others who have accepted Christ into their hearts, will spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven. This assurance fuels Mr. Graham, age 96, on a daily basis and is what inspired his 33rd and final book, "Where I Am: Heaven, Eternity, and Our Life Beyond."

Mr. Graham started working on this book as soon as he finished "The Reason for my Hope," and it is the third part of the message he originally began in "Nearing Home."

In "Where I Am," Mr. Graham illustrates what the Bible has to say about eternity using all 66 books and never-before-published material from his seven decades of ministry.

"Death is the doorstep to eternity," Franklin Graham quotes his father from the book's foreword.(Read more)

"Bring Your Bible to School Day"

"Bring Your Bible to School Day" Will Unite Students Nationwide in Celebration of Religious Freedom on Oct. 8

Colorado Springs- Students from all 50 states are expected to participate in the second-ever "Bring Your Bible to School Day" on Thursday, Oct. 8. The event, sponsored by Focus on the Family, empowers students to take their Bibles to school as a visual way to celebrate religious freedom and share God's hope with friends.

Students have a right to bring their Bibles to school. Yet some report feeling pressured to hide their faith by school teachers and administrators due in part to the cultural censorship of faith that exists in public education from kindergarten to college.

Other educators may not be aware that students have a constitutionally protected right to bring their Bibles to school. For example, 14-year-old Brytney was emboldened to participate in last year's inaugural event after reading Focus' materials explaining students' rights. When a teacher told her she wasn't allowed to have her Bible at school, Brytney shared some of Focus' information with him and was allowed to keep her Bible out.
"We hear from many students who want to be open about their faith and exercise their religious freedoms at school, but don't know they are allowed to," said Focus on the Family Education Analyst Candi Cushman. "When we let them know they don't have to hide their beliefs, they feel empowered to do what's always been on their hearts: to bring their Bibles to school and use their free time to publicly live out their faith. That's why this event strikes a chord. Last year about 8,000 students participated and this year we expect that number to grow exponentially."

Reminder! Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Millions to Unite to Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem This Sunday

Our vision is for sustained, fervent, and informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of God for Jerusalem and all her people.

On the first Sunday of every October, hundreds of millions of people around the world join together to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. In just a few years, this event has quickly become the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history. But why set aside this day each year to pray for Jerusalem?

Purpose

We set aside this one day each year to raise global awareness and intercession for God's purposes in Israel, knowing that this hour in history is critical and our authority in prayer is great. Though we pray every day for Israel, we seek on this day to unite Believers around the world in raising a cry to Heaven on behalf of this troubled, but strategic land and its people. We believe in G-d's promises for His beloved nation and fervently pray to hasten the day when He brings fulfillment to His Word.

History

Begun in 2002 in meetings with leading political and religious leaders from Israel and the United States, this is now the largest prayer movement of its kind, with over 1,200 key leaders within the Evangelical Christian world lending their active support.

Vision

Our vision is for sustained, fervent, and informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of God for Jerusalem and all her people. Our goal, by God's grace, is that by this coming October we will have at least 175 participating nations and 500 million Believers praying for the peace of Jerusalem.

Pope John's Visit (Part Five)

POPE FRANCIS IN AMERICA-FAITH AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Press Conference on Flight to Rome

On the plane departing for Rome Monday morning, Pope Francis was asked the following question by Terry Moran at ABC News:

"Holy Father, you visited the Little Sisters of the Poor and we were told that you wanted to show your support for them and their case in the courts. And, Holy Father, do you also support those individuals, including government officials, who say they cannot in good conscience, their own personal conscience, abide by some laws or discharge their duties as government officials, for example in issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. Do you support those kinds of claims of religious liberty?"

The Pope responded: "I can't have in mind all cases that can exist about conscience objection. But, yes, I can say the conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right. Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right, a human right. Otherwise we would end up in a situation where we select what is a right, saying 'this right that has merit, this one does not.' It (conscientious objection) is a human right. It always moved me when I read, and I read it many times, when I read the "Chanson de Roland" when the people were all in line and before them was the baptismal font and they had to choose between the baptismal font or the sword. They had to choose. They weren't permitted conscientious objection. It is a right and if we want to make peace we have to respect all rights."

Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

TIS SO SWEET TO WALK WITH JESUS

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way." (Psalm 37:23)

Lyrics

1 'Tis so sweet to walk with Jesus, Step by step and day by day; Stepping in His very footprints, Walking with Him all the way.

Refrain:

Step by step, step by step,
I would walk with Jesus,
All the day, all the way,
Keeping step with Jesus.

2 'Tis so safe to walk with Jesus, Leaning hard upon His arm, Following closely where He leads us, None can hurt and naught can harm.

3 Step by step I'll walk with Jesus, Just a moment at a time, Heights I have not wings to soar to, Step by step my feet can climb.

4 All the way I'll walk with Jesus, Through the sunshine, through the gloom, Though His blood-marked steps may lead me To the garden, to the tomb.

5 Here a while we walk with Jesus, But the time will not be long Till the night shall change to morning, And the sorrow into song.

6 Then, with all who walked with Jesus, We shall walk with Him in white, While He turns our grief to gladness, And our darkness into light.

7 Jesus, keep me closer-closer, Step by step, and day by day; Stepping in Thy very footprints, Walking with Thee all the way.

Hurricane Joaquin, Extremely Dangerous Category 4 Storm, Still Battering Bahamas; U.S. Landfall Unlikely

Hurricane Joaquin, an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, remains parked over the central Bahamas producing hurricane-force winds, storm surge flooding and torrential rain.

While Joaquin may go down as one of the most destructive hurricanes on record in the central Bahamas, the odds of the U.S. mainland seeing its first landfalling hurricane in 15 months are now very low as the forecast track continues to trend farther to the east. The storm could pass close to the southeast New England coast, and a close pass to Bermuda cannot be ruled out.

On Thursday, computer models moved closer to a consensus, as models formerly bullish on a U.S. landfall began pulling their forecast paths east, favoring tracks closer to the Atlantic seaboard or even entirely offshore. The model consensus as of early Friday morning, reflected in the National Hurricane Center's 2 a.m. advisory, favors a track east of the East Coast. (Weather.com) Read more here.

Israeli Company SodaStream's Amazing Offer to Syrian Refugees

"Just as we have always done our best to help our Palestinian brothers and sisters in the West Bank, the time has come for local business and municipal leaders to address the Syrian humanitarian crisis and take the initiative to help those in need. We cannot expect our politicians to bear the entire burden of providing aid for the refugees." -CEO Daniel Birnbaum

[Israel21c.org] Israeli home beverage company SodaStream is offering jobs to Syrian refugees at its factory near the Bedouin town of Rahat in the Negev desert.

According to the announcement, which was made with Talal Al-Krenawi, the mayor of Rahat, SodaStream and Rahat can effectively absorb 1,000 people, or up to 200 families, giving them jobs and an opportunity to create a new life for themselves in Israel.

"As the son of a Holocaust survivor, I refuse to stand by and observe this human tragedy unfold right across the border in Syria," said SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum in a recent statement.

"Just as we have always done our best to help our Palestinian brothers and sisters in the West Bank, the time has come for local business and municipal leaders to address the Syrian humanitarian crisis and take the initiative to help those in need. We cannot expect our politicians to bear the entire burden of providing aid for the refugees."

"Human dignity and hospitality are core values in our culture and we will not allow indifference to the suffering of others," added Al-Krenawi. "In this first stage, we will be able to receive 1,000 refugees, and then through ongoing collaboration with SodaStream, we plan to help more. Our hope is that the government will then support our joint effort."

SodaStream's offer has still to be approved by the Israeli Government. Syria is still formally at war with Israel.

Rahat is the largest Bedouin town in the world with a population of 55,000. SodaStream moved its factory to the city over a year ago after shutting its controversial factory in the West Bank. Today some 30 percent of SodaStream's 1,100 workforce in the factory are residents of the town.

Yet I Will Rejoice

by Carolyn Hyde

YES, LORD YESHUA!

Uploaded on May 23, 2010 "I Will Rejoice", a song by Carolyn Hyde, based on Habbukuk 3:17-18:

"For though the fig tree doesn't flourish, Nor fruit be in the vines; The labor of the olive fails, The fields yield no food; The flocks are cut off from the fold, And there is no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!"
