Soldiers destroyed 24 structures in and around the Arab settlement of Khirbet Jenbah, south of Hevron, the Association of Civil Rights in Israel said. Israeli officials said the structures were illegal.

An EU spokesman condemned the demolitions and said that 10 of the buildings had been constructed with funds from the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO).(Read more)

4. Israel Confirms Cooperation With US to Develop 'Iron Dome'-Like Tunnel-Detecting System - Algemeiner

Israel's Ministry of Defense confirmed this week that the US is providing $120 million over the next three years to help develop an underground system for detecting tunnels that is being compared to the Iron Dome, The Financial Times reported.

Members of Israel's military said the new system will be used by the Jewish state to uncover Hamas tunnels from Gaza to Israel, as well as those dug by Hezbollah in Lebanon. The US seeks to use the same technology to detect tunnels used by criminals to smuggle illegal immigrants or drugs across the Mexican border. (Read more)

Israel's High Court ordered army bulldozers to temporarily halt the demolition of Palestinian homes in a military firing zone after a number of homes were razed Tuesday morning.

Israeli forces began destroying dozens of structures Tuesday morning in two Palestinian villages south of Hebron, after the buildings were declared illegal by the body that oversees civilian Israeli activities in the territories.

The High Court ordered a stop to the demolitions until at least February 9 and required the state to respond by that date.

Before the court's stay was ordered, soldiers destroyed 24 structures in and around the village of Khirbet Jenbah south of Hebron, the Association of Civil Rights in Israel said. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. US officials looking to Al Shabaab as suspect in explosion on airplane over Somalia - Fox News

Federal authorities are closely monitoring the investigation into an explosion aboard a Daallo Airlines flight over Somalia and are looking at Somali Al Qaeda affiliate Al Shabaab as a leading suspect, a law enforcement source told Fox News on Wednesday. The FBI would not comment on the incident on Wednesday, and the TSA would not comment on any enhanced security measures the agency will be undertaking in light of the incident.

On Tuesday, an explosion and fire blew a gaping hole in a commercial airliner over Somalia, forcing it to make an emergency landing after a passenger apparently was sucked out of the cabin, officials and witnesses said.

The Airbus A321 plane, operated by Dubai-based Daallo Airlines and headed to Djibouti in the Horn of Africa, was forced to land minutes after taking off from the Mogadishu airport, Somali aviation official Ali Mohamoud said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that the person and/or group responsible for this atrocity be held accountable for the actions against this airplane. We pray for the families who lost loved ones. We pray enhanced security measures will be put into place to prevent these events from happening.

- But transgressors will be altogether destroyed; The posterity of the wicked will be cut off.(Psalm 37:38)

2. Lawmakers propose bill to privatize air traffic control - Fox News

WASHINGTON - Responsibility for the nation's air traffic control operations would shift from the government to a private, nonprofit corporation under legislation introduced Wednesday as part of an overhaul of how Washington oversees the aviation system.

The measure extends for six years the authority of the Federal Aviation Administration and continues its role as the regulator of aviation safety, including the safety of air traffic operations. It also prohibits cellphone calls by airline passengers in-flight, and requires airlines refund bag fees when checked bags arrive more than 24 hours overdue.

But the FAA would lose responsibility for day-to-day air traffic operations and the transition from a radar-based traffic control system to one based on satellite technology. A board representing aviation system users would govern the new, federally chartered air traffic control corporation. The bill would complete the transfer of air traffic operations, hundreds of facilities and about 38,000 workers to the new corporation within three years.

Rep. Bill Shuster, the bill's chief sponsor, said it was a "transformational" solution and greatly needed because modernization of the air traffic system is taking too long and costing too much. Without an overhaul, the system won't be able to keep up with growing air traffic demands and congestion will increase, said Shuster, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a successful transition of the air traffic control operations from the government to a private corporation. We pray for a major upgrade of aviation safety. We pray Your will be done in this transition, and that it will benefit all.

- The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. (Proverbs 18:10)

3. Florida governor declares Zika emergency - Fox News

Gov. Rick Scott declared a health emergency in four counties Wednesday after at least nine cases of the mosquito-borne Zika illness were detected in Florida. Health officials believe all of the cases are from people who contracted the disease while traveling to affected countries.

"We have to ensure Florida is prepared and stays ahead of the spread of the Zika virus in our state," Scott said in a statement. "We know that we must be prepared for the worst even as we hope for the best." Scott signed the order to cover Miami-Dade, Lee, Hillsborough and Santa Rosa counties. That's where all of the affected cases were detected.

The Zika virus is linked to brain deformities in babies and is causing concern among public health officials worldwide. The illness is primarily spread through mosquito bites, but investigators have been exploring the possibility it could be sexually transmitted. (Read more)

- Father, give our officials the answers they need to stop this virus from spreading. We pray healing for those affected. We speak to the Zika virus to STOP, in Jesus name. You can go no further!

- So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

4. US House passes bill again to restrict Obama lifting Iran sanctions - Jerusalem Post

The US House of Representatives narrowly approved legislation on Tuesday that would restrict President Barack Obama's ability to lift sanctions under the international nuclear deal with Iran, nearly three weeks after a similar vote was cancelled.

House members voted 246-181 to pass the "Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act," almost entirely along party lines, with almost every "yes" vote coming from Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly opposed to it.

The legislation is not expected to become law, even though Republicans control both the House and Senate. Even if it were passed by the Senate, Obama has promised a veto, saying the measure would kill the landmark nuclear agreement. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that the Iran sanctions would remain in place. Iran is not to be trusted, and we pray Your divine intervention in this situation.

- And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. (Matthew 24:4)

5. White House rallies public, private efforts to prepare for devastating earthquakes - McClatchyDC

Spurred by renewed fears of the fabled "Big One" shattering the West Coast, the Obama administration on Tuesday promoted stronger earthquake-preparedness efforts as part of a first-of-its-kind White House summit.

Private foundation grants will fund new research at universities in California and Washington state, the Forest Service will streamline the placement of seismic monitoring stations and a presidential order will tighten standards for new federal buildings.

"While no one can predict earthquakes, the study of natural hazards and their causes and impacts has put us on the path to creating more effective tools to prevent these hazards from becoming disasters," Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said. (Read more)

- Father, thank You for stronger earthquake-preparedness efforts. Help these private companies in creating more effective tools to prevent these disasters.

- For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. (Proverbs 8:11-12)

6. Os Guinness, Nina Shea, Frank Wolf Introduce Congressional Scorecard on Religious Freedom - Christian Post

With religious minorities being killed and persecuted around the globe at an unprecedented rate, members of the U.S. Congress will soon be graded on their engagement in promoting legislation designed to bolster America's protection of international religious freedom.

In a Tuesday press conference at the National Press Club, the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative (21CWI) and former Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., introduced the International Religious Freedom Congressional Scorecard initiative.

With 21CWI set to release its mid-term congressional religious freedom scorecard in June, America's federal lawmakers will be graded on an 'A' through 'F' scale on how actively and adamantly they fight to protect the religious freedoms abroad.

"The scorecard is not just about the vote, it's about sponsoring, it's about engagement, it's about participation," Lou Ann Sabatier, 21CWI's director of communications, explained at the press conference. "The majority of the activity that they are getting graded on happens in the process. Are they engaging dialogue? Are they introducing? Are they sponsoring? Are they causing? There is a fairness for everyone involved." (Read more)

- Father, thank You for these men who have introduced a Congressional Scorecard on Religious Freedom. Our Congress does need to create and act on legislation to bolster America's protection of international religious freedom. We need to fight to protect Christianity at home and abroad.

- "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1)

Thursday, February 4, 2016 Planned Parenthood escapes justice

Columnist and friend Robert Knight recently wrote a column for the American Thinker about the absurd turn of events in Houston surrounding Planned Parenthood and the journalists who exposed the organization for selling baby parts. A Houston Grand Jury was initially formed to investigate whether a Houston branch of Planned Parenthood was illegally selling baby body parts. In what appears to be a politically-motivated turn of events, the grand jury instead indicted the journalists who exposed the Planned Parenthood atrocities. A felony charge of tampering with a government record was filed against Center for Medical Progress (CMP) founder David Daleiden and CMP employee Sandra Merritt.

Knight wrote, "Mr. Daleiden also was charged with soliciting the purchase of human organs - as if he really intended to buy them." Daleiden made the undercover videos that feature Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted babies' body parts. Knight reports, "The videos feature CMP employees posing as prospective purchasers of aborted baby organs discussing pricing with Planned Parenthood officials, one of whom jokes about desiring a Lamborghini. By the grand jury's reasoning, undercover police officers trying to bust drug dealers should be prosecuted for trying to buy drugs. Undercover reporters who get the goods on perps should be hauled in and charged with what the perps are doing."

Knight continues, "Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood, whose Houston clinic officials were featured in the video, and whose board of directors includes a prosecutor in the Harris County D.A.'s office, escaped any charges from the Harris County grand jury...Planned Parenthood claimed the videos had been "heavily edited" to misrepresent them. They based this on a report that they themselves solicited. Fusion GPS, misdescribed repeatedly in the media as an "independent" outfit, is an opposition research firm tied to the Democratic Party with "a history of harassing socially conservative Republican donors," according to The Weekly Standard. On August 25, 2015, Fusion GPS released its 10-page report on the CMP videos."

Fusion GPS said that some edits were made to the film and music was added, rendering the film inaccurate. As Knight concludes: "The whole thing is like someone capturing damning footage of a bunch of crooks sitting around planning a robbery. An analyst hired by the crooks finds that the final product, while accurate, was edited for effect and that therefore, there's nothing to see here, folks. Imagine if Sixty Minutes and every other investigative documentary maker were subjected to this kind of analysis, with only raw footage allowed." We are all supposed to be equal under the law, except where politics is involved. And this is politics in its foulest form. This is as in Isaiah 59:14, "And justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter."

Breaking: Cross Demolition has Risen to 1,700 as Crackdown Continues in China

(Wenzhou, Zhejiang-Feb. 2, 2016) Authorities demolished the crosses on three different churches in China's coastal Zhejiang province early Wednesday morning.

The three churches, Xiuyang Church, Waipu Church and Qingkeng Church, are all located in Wenzhou, which has been the center of a massive cross demolition campaign titled "Three Rectifications and One Demolition," which began in early 2014. With these most recent demolitions, the totals rise to 18 crosses demolished in the past two weeks alone and approximately 1,700 demolished since the campaign began.

Members of Waipu Church and Qingkeng Church reported that nearly 100 government employees broke into their churches around 11 p.m. on Jan. 26 and removed the church crosses using electric drills and various other tools.

"This was a secret destruction, like thieves would do. They did not give any reason, because all of the removals are secretive. No one saw them," an anonymous church member said. (China Aid) Read more here.

Classic Hymns

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer

"By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud. . . and by night in a pillar of fire." (Exodus 13:21)

Lyrics

Guide me, O Thou great Redeemer Pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand. Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven, Feed me till I want no more; Feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield; Be Thou still my Strength and Shield
Lord, I trust Thy mighty power, Wondrous are Thy works of old; Thou deliver'st Thine from thralldom, Who for naught themselves had sold: Thou didst conquer, Thou didst conquer, Sin, and Satan and the grave, Sin, and Satan and the grave.
When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of deaths, and hell's destruction, Land me safe on Canaan's side. Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee.

Musing on my habitation, Musing on my heav'nly home, Fills my soul with holy longings: Come, my Jesus, quickly come; Vanity is all I see; Lord, I long to be with Thee! Lord, I long to be with Thee!

Hidden "Planet X" Could Orbit in Outer Solar System

In the far reaches of the solar system, a hidden planet larger than Earth may be lurking

Something very odd seems to be going on out beyond Pluto. Astronomers have known for more than two decades that the tiny former planet is not alone at the edge of the solar system: it is part of a vast cloud of icy objects known collectively as the Kuiper belt. But unlike most of their fellow travelers, and unlike the planets and most asteroids, which orbit between Mars and Jupiter, a small handful of Kuiper belt objects, or KBOs, have orbits that are decidedly weird. For one thing, they take unusually elongated paths around the sun, unlike the roughly circular orbits of most planetary bodies. (Scientific American)

"Gargantuan Protest" in Rome as Millions Turnout to Support Traditional Marriage

(Rome, Italy)-As the Italian Parliament prepares to vote on "civil unions" for homosexuals, a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Rome's Circus Maximus and adjacent streets on January 30 to protest in favor of the family and the rights of children.

The gargantuan protest, dubbed "Family Day," was organized by the Committee to Defend Our Children, and aimed to thwart an attempt by the ruling Democratic Party and its allies to grant legal recognition to homosexual unions and to allow homosexuals to adopt their "stepchildren"-that is, the children of their sex partners.

The protestors expressed their concern that such a measure would enable homosexuals to contract with egg donors and surrogates to "synthesize" children who will never know their mothers and who lack any right to a natural family.

"The uterus is not a furnace in which a manufactured product is made!" said Massimo Gandolfini, the main spokesman for the march, to the assembled crowd.

Calling the proposed law "destructive," Gandolfini warned that if it were approved, "there will be an enormous confusion in which the family will no longer exist, but rather various models and confusions of the family, and the victims will be our children, because the law has the power to change the culture of a people."

A vote on the bill is expected in early February.
