1. Israel Hits Peak of Massive Record-Breaking Heat Wave - Breaking Israel News

Brush fires rage through the country and hundreds suffer from heat-related maladies as a massive, record-breaking heat wave reaches its peak, with temperatures shooting up mercilessly from north to south.

The brutal heat wave, which began on Sunday, is expected to continue through the beginning of the week. Sunday saw temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) throughout the country. The coastal city of Eilat, located at Israel's southernmost point, experienced record-breaking temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius (114.8 degrees Fahrenheit).

Even Jerusalem, generally cooler at its higher elevation, reached 37.1 degrees Celsius (98.8 degrees Fahrenheit). Read more.

2. Brush fires flare up as heatwave envelops Israel - Times of Israel

As a severe heatwave descended on the country Sunday, fire and rescue services were called out to tackle large two brush fires and other smaller blazes in various locations.

At Luzit, southeast of Beit Shemesh outside Jerusalem, rescue services briefly evacuated some residents from their homes as firefighters took on a large blaze that swept through forests in the area.

Along with eight firetrucks, four firefighting aircraft were also called in to assist in putting out the flames. (Read more)

3. 5.0-magnitude earthquake shakes southern Israel - Times of Israel

An earthquake rumbled in the Red Sea early Monday morning, shaking buildings in the Sinai peninsula and as far north as Israel's southern tip.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage in Israel from the temblor, which struck at about 4:45 a.m. Monday morning.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor measured 5.0 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Red Sea, 25 kilometers northeast of Dhahab, Egypt, and 100 kilometers southwest of Eilat in Israel. (Read more)

4. Nationalist MKs back Netanyahu in confrontation with Ya'alon - Israel National News

Several MKs on Sunday night expressed support for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, after he summoned Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon to a meeting following the latter's call for IDF officers to express their opinion even if it is contrary to that of the political leadership.

On the flip side, some MKs, mostly from the left side of the political spectrum, expressed support for Ya'alon and accused Netanyahu of stifling freedom of speech.

"The separation between the civilian government and the military in Israel is among the most important elements of democracy and we must preserve it," said MK Michael Oren (Kulanu) in what appeared to be a cautious backing of Netanyahu.

"While the IDF maintains the highest military values it must be kept within the limits of its sector and not enter the realms of the political arena," he added. (Read more)

5. IDF introduces Skylark 20 tactical UAV for brigade commanders - Israel Hayom

The IDF is currently in the process of incorporating the Skylark 20 miniature tactical unmanned aerial vehicle, and intends to make it available to commanders on the brigade level.

The Skylark 20, manufactured by Elbit Sytems, is the next generation of the Skylark 10, which has been available to battalion commanders. The upgraded model, earmarked for use by brigade commanders, is capable of staying in the air longer with longer range and can operate in difficult weather conditions.

Unlike the previous model of the Skylark, which was capable of staying in the air for just two hours at a range of 20 kilometers (12 miles), the Skylark 20, designed for brigade commanders, has twice the range and can fly for six hours. At this time, the IDF has acquired three Skylark 20 systems, which will likely become operational toward the end 2016 and the beginning of 2017. The IDF plans to acquire additional Skylark 20 systems in the future. (Read more)

1. Obama's Threat to Defund Schools Over Trans Bathroom Issue Violates Federal Law - CNS News

The Obama Administration has done it again. In an effort to strip school children of their modesty and morals, Obama has issued new instructions governing use of restrooms, locker rooms, and showers in every government-funded school in the country. And, in predictably lawless fashion, Obama has violated not one, but two federal laws. First, he took a 1972 law, Title IX, which was designed to prevent sex discrimination in education, and says that as of Friday, the word "sex" in the statute does not mean the "sex" you were born with. It means whatever "gender" you feel like on a given day. And, if that was not bad enough, the manner in which the Obama Administration acted was to legislate by letter, not just usurping legislative power, but by violating another federal law - the Administrative Procedures Act. (Read more)

- Thank You, Lord, for men who so clearly articulate the legal argument against this new policy. We pray for cooler heads to prevail and for this policy change to be withdrawn, in Jesus Name, Amen.

- ". . . the time came for the king's command and his decree to be executed. On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews themselves overpowered those who hated them."
(Esther 9:1)

2. Supreme Court ruling should clear the way to free birth control for women with religious employers - Los Angeles Times

An evenly divided Supreme Court skirted the major legal questions arising from a dispute over President Obama's healthcare program and instead announced a compromise Monday designed to clear the way for women working for religious organizations to receive the free birth control promised under the Affordable Care Act. In a short, unanimous decision, the justices said that the Catholic charities who filed the suits and the Obama administration - at the high court's strong urging -- had agreed in recent weeks that the female workers may "receive cost-free contraceptive coverage" without infringing on the religious rights of the church-based employers. (Read more)

[See additional articles on this breakthrough ruling under our "More News" section, below.]

- Creator of all life, this ruling does not clarify the larger issues of our public policy requiring religious institutions to provide all contraceptive options to women. Nevertheless, we praise You that this ruling allows the two parties to come to an agreement on this specific issue. We pray for each member of our Supreme Court to have an encounter with You so they are truly equipped to judge our nation, in the Name of the Judge of All, Jesus, we pray, Amen.

- "But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, And the nations cannot endure His indignation." (Jeremiah 10:10)

3. Supremes exempt selves from 1st Amendment - WND

Without comment, the U.S. Supreme Court justices announced Monday their decision not to review a case challenging speech restrictions on the court's property. "Shame on the court for making a mockery of the First Amendment and engaging in a hypocritical double standard that does a grave disservice to its historic stance on free speech," said constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute.

Whitehead's group has defended Harold Hodge, who was arrested for holding a protest sign on the public plaza in front of the court. Rutherford argues the court has allowed news conferences, protests and even a wide range of other activities on the site, such as "commercial or professional films."

Hodge challenged the court's regulations as a violation of the First Amendment, and District Judge Beryl Howell sided with Hodge. "The absolute prohibition of expressive activity in the statute is unreasonable, substantially overbroad, and irreconcilable with the First Amendment," Howell wrote. "The court therefore must find the statute unconstitutional and void as applied to the Supreme Court plaza."

But Howell's decision was overturned on appeal, and on Monday, the justices refused to hear the case, which, according to Whitehead, effectively exempts the Supreme Court plaza from the First Amendment. (Read more)

- Father God, we stand in repentance that our Supreme Court justices have determined that the right of freedom of speech will not be upheld on its own property. Lord God, we understand that there are probably security issues involved here, but we thank You that the Capitol Hill police are more than able and equipped to deal with such issues. Lord God, we ask that You restore the right to protest on the steps of the Supreme Court by giving these justices a new heart on this ruling. We ask this in Your name.

- (For the U.S. Supreme Court justices) "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezek. 36:26)

4. Congressman: Classified Details of Iran's Treatment of U.S. Sailors Will Shock Nation - Washington Free Beacon

The classified details behind Iran's treatment of several U.S. sailors who were captured by the Islamic Republic during a tense standoff earlier this year are likely to shock the nation, according to one member of the House Armed Services Committee, who disclosed to the Washington Free Beacon that these details are currently being withheld by the Obama administration. (Read more)

- Holy Father, we are thankful our sailors were returned to us, but we also recognize the humiliation they received while in the custody of Iran. Show Yourself strong, Lord, and do not let Your Name be defiled by evil men, in Your name, Amen.

- "Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me."
(Psalm 35:26)

5. White House snubs Chaffetz, refuses to let aide testify after controversial Iran remarks - Fox News

The White House confirmed Monday that Obama adviser Ben Rhodes will not be allowed to testify before House lawmakers on the Iran nuclear deal, after a last-ditch attempt by Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz to pry the controversial aide loose for the hearing.

Chaffetz and the White House have been engaged in an escalating feud, all on the heels of a New York Times Magazine piece where Rhodes was quoted boasting about the administration's success in crafting a public narrative for the Iran deal. The profile on Rhodes quotes him saying they built an "echo chamber" of experts who sold that narrative to young, often inexperienced reporters.

Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, wanted the deputy national security adviser to testify at a hearing set for Tuesday titled, "White House narratives on the Iran Nuclear Deal."

"We're planning as if he is attending, and he'll have a comfortable seat awaiting his arrival," Chaffetz said Monday afternoon of Rhodes. (Read more)

- Lord God, we wonder what is causing the Obama administration to be so afraid to allow this man to testify before this Senate Committee? Lord God, only You know. We ask that all hidden things be revealed regarding the facts of the nuclear Iran treaty that was passed by Congress last year at the urging of the White House, in Your name, amen.

- "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out." (Numbers 32:23)

6. Al Qaeda's online magazine tells terrorists to target U.S. business leaders in their homes - Washington Times

Al Qaeda's Inspire online magazine is calling on jihadis to damage the American economy by killing business leaders and entrepreneurs in their homes. Articles in the May 14 edition, its 15th, also urge radical Islamic terrorists to emulate the Palestinian street-killings of Jews by walking up to Americans and stabbing them to death. Inspire's cover carries the headline "Professional Assassinations" and the subhead "Home Assassinations." It depicts the dark profile of a hooded killer stalking a victim who lives in an upscale American home. (Read more)

- Lord of Hosts, we pray for Your protection over our people, business leaders and their families. May the plans of the enemy come to nothing, in Jesus Name, Amen.

- "Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; Do not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted." (Psalm 140:8)

7. U.S. and East Asia Allies Join Forces to Track North Korean Missiles - New York Times

SEOUL, South Korea - The United States, South Korea and Japan will, for the first time, jointly test their ability to detect and track North Korean missiles, a South Korean Defense Ministry official said on Monday. The drill will be conducted on June 28 - shortly before Japan and South Korea are scheduled to join the American-led Rim of the Pacific Exercise in waters off Hawaii - and will involve destroyers equipped with the Aegis radar system, said the official, who briefed reporters on the condition of anonymity. (Read more)

- Father God, we are thankful that You have used the United States to improve the relationship between Japan and South Korea, and thereby provide mutual support in containing the North Korean threat. May these training exercises continue to improve cooperation and trust, in Jesus Name, Amen.

- "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1)

8. US, other powers want to arm Libyan government - AP

VIENNA (AP) - In a move fraught with risk, the United States and other world powers said Monday they would supply Libya's internationally recognized government with weapons to counter the Islamic State and other militant groups gaining footholds in the chaos-wracked country's lawless regions. Before the meeting, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier outlined the high stakes at hand. "The key question is whether Libya remains a place where terrorism, criminal human smuggling and instability continue to expand, or if we are able, together with the government of national unity to recover stability," he told reporters. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, You know Your plans for the people of Libya. We pray these agreements will lead to stability and a renewal of this nation, in Jesus Name, Amen.

- "Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed." (Hebrews 12:12-13)

9. Obama: Put Nordic Countries 'In Charge for a While' Because 'They Could Clean Things Up' - MRCTV.org

Pres. Obama said that Nordic countries would make the world "more secure and more prosperous" if "we" would just let them run things. Welcoming the leaders of Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland to the White House on Friday, Obama said that, if "we" let Nordic countries control the world, that "they could clean things up."

The Nordic countries are vital to his efforts to create a new world order, Obama said: "They have been extraordinarily important for us in shaping and maintaining an international order that is rule-based, that is fair, that is just."

Obama said that Nordic wealth redistribution has brought great joy to its citizens: "In fact, in a world of growing economic disparities, Nordic countries have some of the least income inequality in the world -- which may explain one of the reasons that they're some of the happiest people in the world, despite not getting much sun." - Lord God, while we are grateful that the president has honored the Nordic nations with a State Dinner last week, and a conference at the White House, nevertheless, we ask only that his agenda in building a coalition with partner nations in this region, be Yours, as well. Let Your kingdom come, we pray, amen.

- "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven . . ."

10. Breaking: Senate passes bill allowing 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia - The Hill

The Senate on Tuesday approved legislation that would allow victims of the 9/11 terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia, defying vocal opposition from the White House. The upper chamber approved the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act by unanimous consent.

"This bill is very near and dear to my heart as a New Yorker because it would allow the victims of 9/11 to pursue some small measure of justice," Schumer said. "[This is] another example of the [John] Cornyn-Schumer collaboration, which works pretty well around here."

President Obama has threatened to veto the bill. Schumer said he wouldn't uphold a veto, and expects that most senators wouldn't, either. "I think we easily get the two thirds override if the president should veto," Schumer said. (Read more)

- Father God, we know that the Saudis have issued a series of very serious economic threats against our nation, should the Senate pass this measure. We thank You, dear Lord, that nevertheless, a veto-proof majority of senators have say YES to demanding that the victims of the 9/11 massacre be repaid for their injury. Lord God, we ask that You would now soften the hearts of the Saudi leaders, that they simply do the right thing and help our victims of the 9/11 tragedy. In Your Name, we pray, amen.

- "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22)

11. Welcome to a Bernie Sanders Wiccan ritual - LA Times

There are lots of ways to support a political candidate, from making phone calls to donating money. Some turn to prayer, Christian or otherwise. Add Wiccan rituals to the list.

Lafleur, a patent agent, has already hosted "Beanies for Bernie" knitting parties and helped out at the senator's rallies. But she had never performed a Wiccan ritual for Sanders before, and if it was going to happen somewhere, it would be here in Portland, a place she described as a much more welcoming community than where she grew up in Michigan.

"Welcome to the 'Feeling the Bern ritual,'" Leigha Lafleur, 41, told the gathering as she prepared to lead them in the "amplification of positive energy of Bernie Sanders and the progressive movement." (Read more here)

- Lord God, we thank You that You have shown us a much better way to choose our leaders than to resort to the schemes of those who practice witchcraft. Lord God, we place our trust in You in this election, and in You, alone. We ask You to forgive Ms. Lafleur and all who follow her teachings, for they know not what they do. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "But . . . those who practice magic arts . . . will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)

Privilege and manhood

I heard a term at a recent meeting that was somewhat alarming. The example was that if a man walked through a crowded room he could go from one end to another and people would move out of his way. The man leading a panel discussion said that if a woman tried to do that, people wouldn't move out of the way. He called it an example of male privilege-blaming a lack of common courtesy by those in the room on a man who knew how to move through a crowd. It didn't set well with my spirit. In this example, someone has assigned a sociological term aimed at convincing others that their right of equality is being violated. It made me think a bit. What is God's order and what does that mean to a people?

In a fallen world, one that would deny God, those who are the deniers and the deceived are always trying to cause separation from God. They are attempting to use their intellect to pit people against people using esoteric ideas and expressions that cause confusion and division. There is a God-given order for those who believe. And, while believers are not perfect in its implementation, God's order is intrinsically balanced and, at the same time, liberty-oriented. It protects both male and female. As Galatians 3:28 says, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

Privilege, in the sense of those who use it to try to ascribe some sort of guilt or wrongdoing on people, may be better defined as a human condition of entitlement. Those who use the term are often guilty of envy, blame, and strife, wanting to assign a reason to paint an entire group of people with the same brush to justify their own prejudices-or their agenda. This way of thinking is not healthy, but then what can be healthy if it goes against God's order? A society that continuously attacks men and confuses masculinity with labels like "privilege" will eventually reduce itself to a population of base, leaderless, godless sleepwalkers controlled by the very ones who are pointing the finger of privilege. That is their agenda.

There is a Godly order. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 11:3, "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God." This is not about man-assigned privilege. It is divine order. With that comes responsibility. Ephesians 5:33 says, "Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she honors her husband." Ephesians 6:1 says, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right." Verse 6:4 says, "And you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath." You see, if the world followed God's order, it would be considered an honorable privilege to be a man. And men need to be men-as defined by God, not by men.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

GOP Puts a Lid on Bathroom Crisis

Conservatives have wanted to eliminate the Department of Education for decades. And Thursday, President Obama gave them the best reason yet. The agency's outrageous order that public schools ignore the basic biology of their students in the use of bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers may have finally awakened a sleeping giant. Parents, governors, House and Senate leaders, religious groups, and superintendents are incensed that the White House would threaten to pull funding for children's education over something as ridiculous and unpopular as gender-free restrooms.

Within hours of firing off this letter to every public school, college, and university in America, the blowback was fast and fierce. Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick (R) and Governor Greg Abbott (R) called on states to resist, insisting that the Lone Star State would give up all of its federal funding before letting the administration bully them on an ideology that the American College of Pediatricians calls "child abuse." Together with Abbott, Patrick called on schools to ignore the DOE and Justice Department's guidance. "This will be the end of public education, if this prevails," he warned. 'People will pull their kids out, homeschooling will explode, and private schools will increase." (Family Research Council)

Barring Nun: SCOTUS Shields Sisters from Mandate

The Little Sisters of the Poor were hoping for a resolution to their years-long fight for religious freedom. What they got today was the second best thing: the U.S. Supreme Court's unanimous agreement that the president needs to change his approach to the Obamacare mandate.

In a surprise announcement today, the eight justices sent the nuns' case back to the lower courts, where it hopes a better solution will be reached for religious groups like Little Sisters of the Poor, Priests for Life, and other religious schools.
In the meantime, the Court delivered a huge win on one point: the plaintiffs will be shielded from the millions of dollars in government fines in the process. "Given the gravity of the dispute and the substantial clarification and refinement in the positions of the parties," the justices wrote, "the parties on remand should be afforded an opportunity to arrive at an approach going forward that accommodates petitioners' religious exercise while at the same time ensuring that women covered by petitioners' health plans 'receive full and equal health coverage, including contraception coverage.'" "Justin Danhof of the National Center for Public Policy Research went to a GE shareholders meeting April 27 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he raised concerns after GE opposed religious freedom laws in Indiana and other states.

While critics including GE claim that religious freedom laws discriminate against homosexuals, Danhof says such laws simply require the government to explain why a person's religious beliefs should bow to a local ordinance or a state law."

Military Religious Freedom Case Very Important
"First Liberty Director of Military Affairs Michael Berry said this case is important for two reasons: justice and precedent. 'Ms. Sterling posted the Bible verse as an expression of her faith - an expression which should have been protected by RFRA,' Berry said. We hope the Court of Appeals of the Armed Forces will take this opportunity to right the wrong that has been inflicted on Ms. Sterling and set a clear precedent that our service members have a right to religious freedom.'" About that Bathroom Agenda

About that Bathroom Agenda

Famous LGBT Activist Reveals The Scary, Real Goal Of The Bathroom Battle

What you may have been suspecting has been confirmed. LGBT activists' end goal is not ruling over the bathroom. It's obliterating the family. Riki Wilchins, a famous transsexual who recently wrote a piece in the gay publication The Advocate, revealed that many conservatives and even LGBT activists are missing the forest for the trees.

Titled, "We'll Win the Bathroom Battle When the Binary Burns," Wilchins says the real goal is to kill the notion of male and female altogether. The "binary" refers to gender distinction, and getting rid of the "heterobinary structure" is the goal. Wilchins writes that the fact that we are arguing over male and female facilities is proof that we still have far to go--that there should be no gender distinctions in general.

In fact, Wilchins points to an emerging group of people who don't want to affiliate as any gender. Life Site News explains, "'Non-binary' people don't identify as male or female and they often want to be referred to as 'they' or 'hir' or 'zer.' So the fact that there are even intimate facilities that reflect the "binary" truth about gender should change, Wilchins wrote."

If you are confused, you are not alone. But beneath all of the titles and non-titles, the insidious plan is the destruction of the family, reveals Stella Morabito, senior contributor to The Federalist.

"What we are really talking about is the abolition of sex. And it is sex that the trans project is serving to abolish legally, under the guise of something called 'the gender binary.' Its endgame is a society in which everyone is legally de-sexed. No longer legally male or female.

And once you basically redefine humanity as sexless you end up with a de-humanized society in which there can be no legal 'mother' or 'father' or 'son' or 'daughter' or 'husband' or 'wife' without permission from the State.

Government documents are already erasing the terms. In such a society, the most intimate human relationships take a hit. The family ends up abolished."

Morabito hits home the point: "Sex distinctions are the germ of all human relationships. Abolishing them legally basically abolishes family autonomy. And this is an act of violence against children because it would serve at some point to separate them from their origins. Every child's first transcendental question is 'Where did I come from?' If the law will not allow the child to see his own origins and wholeness in the faces of a mother and a father, it destabilizes the child's sense of self. It creates personal dysfunction in children and basically ends up spreading more dysfunction and even dystopia in society."

This is scary. If Morabito and other cultural watch-dogs are right, the bathroom battle is far more serious than many think. We need to really pray and ask God for help--before it's too late and our future generations end up really damaged. Do you agree? (Faith Family America) Read more here.

FRC Petition (Bathroom) Alert

Join over 50,000 petitioning to stop Obama's agenda

Join the 50,000 petitioners to stop the injustice from this administration!

If you thought the Obama administration would fade quietly as the president's term expired, think again. Now, they've ramped up their radical redefinition of reality to an entirely new level.

The Departments of Justice and Education are once again exceeding their lawful authority by sending a letter to every public school district in America threatening loss of federal aid if local districts do not adopt genderless bathroom policies, which would allow self-identified transgendered students to use facilities such as restrooms, showers, and locker rooms of the opposite biological sex.

Under the guise of "protecting students from discrimination," these federal agencies are using the bully pulpit to strip parents and local school districts of the right to do something as simple as have separate restrooms and showers for boys and girls. In the eyes of the president, parents and local schools entrusted with teaching our children can't be trusted with setting bathroom standards.

If the American people do not speak up now on an issue like this, there's no limit to what President Obama's administration, or future liberal presidents, will be emboldened to do. Please join me in signing the petition below urging Congress to take action.

Sincerely,
Tony Perkins

Petition to U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan:

The Obama administration's overreach in bullying parents and local school districts by threatening the loss of federal dollars if they do not follow its guidance in allowing students to use facilities such as restrooms, showers, and locker rooms of the opposite biological sex is both unlawful and dangerous to our children.

This has gone too far. The U.S. Congress is still the voice of the American people. It is past time that Congress stands up to the unlawful actions of this president. If Congress will not resist President Obama's overreach into the bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms of our nation's schools, then who will? I, the undersigned, strongly urge you to take action to protect our children and stop the Obama administration's radical overreach.

Classic Hymns

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

"COME HOME, COME HOME TO JESUS"

"In my Father's house are many rooms . . . I am going there to prepare a place for you." (John 14:2)

(Revised)Lyrics

[Based upon the original hymn: "Stand up, stand up for Jesus."]

Editor's comment:

In these troubled times, our Lord is yearning for us to return to Him, in repentance, as so many of us have begun to lost our way.

As you gaze upon these lyrics today, know that Abba is holding each of us in the wellspring of His love, poured out for us at the Cross. Amen.

1. Come home, come home to Jesus,
ye soldiers of the cross;
lift high his royal banner,
it must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
his army shall he lead,
till every foe is vanquished,
and Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Come home, come home to Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict,
in this his glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger,
and strength to strength oppose.

3. Come home, come home to Jesus,
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.

4. Come home, come home to Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
this day the noise of battle,
the next the victor's song.
To those who vanquish evil
a crown of life shall be;
they with the King of Glory
shall reign eternally.

Signs and Wonders

You Are Approaching Mars
On any night this week, when the clock strikes midnight, step outside and look south. There's a brilliant red light in the constellation Scorpius guaranteed to catch your attention. It's Mars, approaching Earth for a close encounter at the end of the month. On May 10th, Shahrin Ahmad of Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, took this astro-photo of the star field around the Red Planet.
Saturn and the red giant star Antares are there, too, forming a beautiful triangle with Mars as the third vertex. All three are brightly visible to the naked eye.

The view is even better through a telescope. The rings of Saturn are easy to see through backyard optics. Ditto for the ruddy disk of Mars. The Red Planet is just finishing winter in its southern hemisphere, so be alert for a bright polar cap at the martian south pole.

Upcoming dates of interest include May 22nd when Mars is at opposition. In other words, it is opposite the sun in the sky; Mars rises at sunset and soars high in the sky at midnight. Also on May 22nd, the full Moon passes by Mars, guiding novices right to the Red Planet: sky map. On May 30th, Mars makes its closest approach to Earth since 2003. "Do not hide your faith and your beliefs under a bushel basket, especially in this world that seems to have gone mad with political correctness." - Clarence Thomas

(Hillsdale, MI)-Speaking at Hillsdale College's Commencement ceremony on May 14, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas had a simple, unconventional message for graduates: Don't worry so much about "changing the world"-just be good citizens.

"At the risk of understating what is necessary to preserve liberty in our form of government," said Thomas, "I think more and more that it depends on good citizens, discharging their daily duties in their daily obligations."

"I think it is hard enough for you to solve your own problems, not to mention those problems that often seem to defy solution," he added. "In addressing your own obligations and responsibilities in the right way, you actually help to ensure our liberty and our form of government."

Thomas also addressed the role of faith-a bold faith-in being a good citizen, something he said he learned personally from his grandfather, who taught him to revere "duty, honor [and] country" even though he was reportedly raised in a racially-segregated society.

"He knew that though not nearly perfect, our constitutional ideals were perfectible if we worked to protect them rather than to undermine them," he said of his grandfather. "Don't discard that which is precious along with that which is tainted."

Thomas concluded his message by exhorting graduates to thank their families and teachers-"these are the people who have shown you how to sacrifice for those they love, even when that sacrifice is not always appreciated," he said-and to be kind to those in need.

"As you go through life," he said, "try to be that person whose actions teach others how to be better people and better citizens." (The Washington Examiner) Read article here.
