1. Fatah and Hamas meet for reconciliation talks in Qatar - Israel National News

A third round of talks between Fatah and Hamas began on Wednesday in the Qatari capital of Doha, the Ma'an news agency reports.

The talks focused on continuing discussions on strategies for implementing a reconciliation agreement between the sides, members of Fatah told the Palestinian Authority-based outlet.

Hamas and Fatah have been at odds since 2007 when Hamas took over Gaza from Fatah in a bloody coup.

The sides have continued their never-ending war of words despite a unity agreement signed in April 2014 which sought to end seven years of bad blood. (Read more)

2. Palestinians move into new city, part of statehood dream - Fox News

RAWABI, West Bank - After years of setbacks, Palestinians are proudly starting to move into their first planned city being built in the West Bank - a move that isn't just about real estate but also a symbol of their quest for statehood after nearly 50 years of Israeli military occupation.

Though Rawabi is still unfinished, its glistening high-rises and shopping centers bring a rare sense of pride and excitement to the territory at a time of growing malaise over a standstill in Mideast peace efforts.

Palestinian-American developer Bashar Masri dreamed up Rawabi, which means "hills" in Arabic, back in 2007. But the construction of the city, located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Jerusalem, has repeatedly stalled due to political obstacles. Work only began in 2012. (Read more)

3. Intelligence chief warns of growing gaps between Israel, neighbors -Times of Israel

Since the Arab Spring in 2011, Israel has gotten stronger, more stable and wealthier than its neighbors. But that's not necessarily something to be proud of - it's something that should be worrisome, according to Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Herzi Halevy.

In a speech Wednesday at this year's Herzliya Conference, Halevy introduced a portmanteau to describe a dynamic Middle East: mishtarkev, which he said was made up of the Hebrew words for improve, mishtaper, and complex, murkav.

His speech gave a general overview of the region, but did not reveal any information not previously released by the Israel Defense Forces. He touched on the Syrian civil war, Iran's nuclear ambitions, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, terror in the West Bank and the Islamic State group. (Read more)

4. EU inaugurates Gaza's first desalinization plant - Times of Israel

Gaza's first desalinization plant was feted with a ceremonial opening on Tuesday featuring a delegation from the European Union, which is funding the project.

Construction work on the plant, in the central Gaza town of Deir al-Balah, began in March 2014 thanks to a 10 million euro ($13.7 million) EU grant. The construction has now reached its first stage, and the plant should already be able to supply 6,000 cubic meters of desalinated water daily, the Palestinian news site Al Quds reported.

The station still needs to undergo intensive testing this summer to check the efficacy of the pumps, filters and reverse osmosis membranes, which are responsible for purifying the water. During this stage, the quality of the desalinated water will be checked to make sure it meets standards before it is distributed to the public. (Read more)

5. Ya'alon declares he's running for PM - Israel National News

Former defense minister Moshe Ya'alon took advantage of his speech at the Herzliya Conference Thursday afternoon to criticize Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and announce that he intends to replace him.

"The leadership should stop scaring the citizens and give the feeling that we are on the verge of a second Holocaust," he said. "There is no existential danger to Israel, including the Iranian threat."

He declared: "I intend to run for the Israeli leadership in the coming elections. In the last few months, the gaps in outlooks between me and the prime minister have become apparent to me." (Read more)

6. In Wake of 'Jihadist' Orlando Massacre, US Pundits Urge America to Learn From Israel - Algemeiner

The United States needs to learn from Israel where facing jihadist activity is concerned, said two pundits in the US media on Wednesday - three days after the slaughter of 49 Americans at an Orlando nightclub.

National Review staff writer David French and National Interest resident junior fellow Kevin Reagan each used the Jewish state as the example of how a liberal democracy - and all being one entails - is capable of confronting the Islamist threat without compromising its societal ideals.

"We're slowly moving into Israel's security reality - the dilemma where external power projection leads to domestic discord and international condemnation, while a purely defensive strategy allows terrorists to recruit, re-arm, and inspire a new wave of jihadists," wrote French . . (Read more)

The Daily Brief

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Senate Votes to Require Women to Register for the Draft - NY Times

In the latest and perhaps decisive battle over the role of women in the military, Congress is embroiled in an increasingly intense debate over whether they should have to register for the draft when they turn 18. On Tuesday, the Senate approved an expansive military policy bill that would for the first time require young women to register for the draft. The shift, while fiercely opposed by some conservative lawmakers and interest groups, had surprisingly broad support among Republican leaders and women in both parties.

Under the Senate bill passed on Tuesday, women turning 18 on or after Jan. 1, 2018, would be forced to register for Selective Service, as men must do now. Failure to register could result in the loss of various forms of federal aid, including Pell grants, a penalty that men already face. Because the policy would not apply to women who turned 18 before 2018, it would not affect current aid arrangements.

The debate will now pit the Senate against the House, where the policy change has support but was not included in that chamber's version of the bill. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that You stop this bill now before we have a national emergency that has to reinstitute the draft. American women are not ready for this in any way.

- "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise." (Proverbs 12:15)

2. GOP Agrees to Vote on Gun Control After 15-Hour Filibuster - Time

The Democratic senator who mourned the loss of 20 children in his home state waged a roughly 15-hour filibuster into early Thursday, asserting as he yielded the floor that Republican leaders had committed to hold votes on expanded gun background checks and a ban on gun sales to suspected terrorists.

With a compromise on the gun issue still improbable, Sen. Chris Murphy stood on the Senate floor for most of Wednesday and into Thursday. Speaking in the wake of the mass shooting early Sunday at a Florida nightclub, Murphy said he would remain there "until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together." He concluded the filibuster at 2:11 a.m. EDT Thursday.

Although Murphy, D-Conn., talked optimistically about his cause, it is unlikely the amendments Democrats are seeking will pass the Republican-run Senate. The Senate will vote on a measure banning gun sales to people on the terrorist watch list and a provision requiring background checks at shows and over the internet. Republicans may also offer their own gun control measures. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that You stop the reactions to circumstances we cannot control. The Orlando shooter was not on any terrorist watch list, and was in fact a contractor for the DHS. These reactions do not stop terrorists, only turning to You as a nation will do so.

- "But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands."
(Jonah 3:8)

3. House Passes Defense Spending Bill - AIPAC

This afternoon, the House of Representatives passed its annual defense spending bill with $635.7 million appropriated for U.S.-Israel missile defense programs. This is a $490 million increase above the president's 2017 budget request, and is a direct result of your work with AIPAC and Congress.

With today's House passage of the defense appropriations bill, the Senate will now vote on its version with a floor vote as early as next week. Importantly, both bills include full funding for U.S.-Israel missile defense and anti-tunneling programs. (Read more)

- Lord God Jehovah, we thank You for this vote in the House of Representatives, and we ask that the vote to be taken next in the Senate would also reflect a strong support for Israel. Thank You, Lord, amen.

- "I will bless those who bless you . . ." (Genesis 12:3)

4. House to Vote Today on H.R. 5471, the Countering Terrorist Radicalization Act - ACT for America

Language contained in the bill authorizes extra training, the creation of a committee and establishes conditional reporting requirements. It does not reform President Obama's misguided "Countering Violent Extremism" (CVE) strategy, training rules or investigative priorities.

What's the point of re-passing already passed legislation that didn't go anywhere? As Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX-1) noted, this legislation is nothing but a "post-Orlando showpiece" that solidifies the President's existing harmful policies. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for the comment made by Rep. Louis Gohmert, and we stand in agreement with his statement. We ask for the defeat of this bill, in Your name, amen.

- "Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked." (Psalm 97:10)

5. SWAT team kills suspect Mohammad Moghaddam who took hostages at Amarillo, Texas Walmart - Fox News

A SWAT team shot and killed an armed suspect who took hostages at a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas Tuesday afternoon, investigators confirmed, saying all the hostages are now safe. Police identified the gunman late Tuesday as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam. Moghaddam, who was an employee at that Walmart, took two other workers hostage, local media reported. One of the hostages was the store manager, relatives told the Amarillo Globe-News. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that anyone else, from any other country, who is prone to these violent surges, be found and taken off the streets. Father God, we beseech You to visit them in the night, and bring them to You, even as is being done daily now in the MIddle East. [See Good News report, below.] We ask this in Your Name, amen.

- Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

6. British lawmaker dies following shooting and stabbing attack that stuns nation - Washington Post

A member of Britain's Parliament was shot and stabbed to death Thursday in an attack that stunned the nation and brought to an immediate halt the country's European Union referendum campaign just a week before the vote.

Police did not provide a motive for the killing. But British media organizations including the Guardian and Sky News quoted witnesses as saying that the assailant shouted "Britain First!" during and after the attack - a slogan linked to anti-immigrant groups.

Police officials in the northern English region of West Yorkshire said Jo Cox, a 41-year-old member of the center-left Labour Party who has been outspoken in advocating for civilian victims in Syria, was pronounced an hour after she was assaulted outside a library near the city of Leeds. (Read more)

- Father, we ask You to be with the friends and family of Jo Cox, as they mourn her loss. What a tragedy, once again! Father, we ask, too, that You would grant Your wisdom to the leaders of Parliament as they weigh now whether to postpone the Brexit vote in their land. Amen.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

7. Canadian lawmakers approve gender neutral version of 'O Canada' - Fox News

Canada's House of Commons has voted to render the country's national anthem gender neutral.

The legislation to change "O Canada" still requires the approval of the Senate. The bill changes the second line of the anthem from "true patriot love, in all thy sons command" to "in all of us command." (Read more)

- Lord, this may seem a small thing to some, but it represents what is happening across the world - the foundations of the Western nations are being torn away and shifted from their moorings. We pray that You will stand strong with those who are called by Your Name.

-"Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven." (Hebrews 12:26)

8. Russian spy ships 'shadowing' US Navy during large NATO exercise, Navy admiral says - Fox News

Two Russian intelligence gathering ships are currently shadowing U.S. Navy and other NATO vessels operating in the Baltic Sea during a major international exercise this month, according to U.S. Navy Vice Admiral James G. Foggo III, leading the exercise.

"What we have seen is shadowing by two Russian intelligence vessels since we left port in Tallinn, Estonia" on June 5th, Foggo said. He added that the Russian ships have been "well behaved" but have refused to communicate with the U.S. Navy despite coming as close as one mile at times with U.S. and allied vessels. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for the protection of our Navy as these exercises continue. Whatever the motive of the Russian ships might be, we pray that You will stand guard over our Forces.

- "You have scattered our enemies with Your mighty arm." (Psalm 89:10b)

9. Orlando Attack Is Nothing Compared to What Is Coming - Understanding the Threat (UTT)

The disconnect from reality by so many reveals America's grave vulnerability to the much greater threat that is just over the horizon.

As has been articulated by UTT for the last several years, the Global Islamic Movement is on the march and they are still not even focused on the West. We continue to be witnesses to Individual Jihadis working on their own (answering the broad call to jihad) or with support of Islamic groups like ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas or others.

The turn towards the West has now begun. As this turn towards the West gains momentum over the next six to fourteen months, the violence in Europe and North America will be markedly increased, and will involve dozens or hundreds of jihadis in multiple operations in multiple American cities.

The attacks will come, as have all of the attacks since and including 9/11, with the assistance and direct support of the major North American Islamic organizations including the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations, Hamas (CAIR), Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Muslim American Society (MAS), Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), Muslim Students Associations (MSA), Islamic Circle of North America, and so many others.

These are the same jihadi organizations which are publicly lauded and supported by the President, his national security staff, the Attorney General of the United States and the previous Attorney General, the Secretaries of State, Homeland Security, and so many others in the federal government.

The way is paved for the jihadi organizations by socialist and marxist collaborators who work daily to push law enforcement back on their heels, embolden our enemies while publicly shaming Patriots, insinuating their anti-American ideology at every level of society, and working diligently to destroy liberty and enslave this nation with socialism or some other perverted form of governmental rule. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that You have raised up voices like that of UTT who seek to awaken our people to the real dangers that now lurk on the streets of our nation. Help us, O Lord, to repent, and to turn to You, Lord God Jehovah, for only You can spare us more tragedies in the days ahead.

- " . . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Hillary's big donors are terror sponsors

In the wake of being ridiculed by Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump for not mentioning radical Islam and saying that gun control on all Americans was the answer to Islamic terrorism, Hillary Clinton was pushed into a political corner. She came out fighting, saying, "it is long past time for the Saudis, the Qataris and the Kuwaitis and others to stop their citizens from funding extremist organizations. And they should stop supporting radical schools and mosques around the world that have set too many young people on a path towards extremism." Enter Saudi Arabia, whose Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, released a statement that the Saudis fund 20% of Clinton's campaign, which is illegal.

In an pre-US visit report published in Arabic by Jordan's official news agency Petra, then in English by the Institute for Gulf Affairs, the Saudi prince stated, "Saudi Arabia always has sponsored both Republican and Democratic Party of America and in America current election also provide with full enthusiasm 20 percent of the cost of Hillary Clinton's election..."The Federal Election Commission reports indicate Clinton has raised some $211.8 million. 20% of this sum is $42.4 million. It is against US law for a foreign entity to fund a US candidate. But there is more. Clinton's ties to terrorist-sponsoring Saudi Arabia have a long history. In 2008, for example, the Saudis gave up to $20 million to the Clinton Foundation, which oft has been accused of laundering money to Clinton political causes.

Oh, but the plot thickens. The Podesta Group is receiving some $200,000 a month for "public relations services" from Saudi Arabia. Founder of the Podesta Group, John Podesta, is Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman. When the Deputy Crown Prince's statement was posted, the Podesta Group issued a correction through Petra that Petra did not publish the statement by the Saudi Deputy Crown Prince, that it was hacked and the statement appeared. Notwithstanding, Breitbart reports that records verify Hillary Clinton's foundation has taken between $74.5-87.8 million from Algeria, Brunei, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates, all Islamic nations. Some, Clinton admits, sponsor terrorism.

Hillary says that the Saudis, Qataris, Kuwaitis and others should stop sponsoring terrorism. Yet her foundation has taken at least $75 million from them and others, with one claiming it funds 20% or $42 million of her presidential campaign. Add that Huma Abedin, whose family is foundational to the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization, is Clintons top aide, and her campaign chairman John Podesta works for the Saudis, and there is the appearance of something deceptive, illegal and dangerous to Americans taking place with Ms. Clinton. Why does she want to disarm American citizens? Is she an agent of Islam? These are legitimate questions. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Just make sure these free-walking criminals do not deceive you.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

'UNCONSCIONABLE'

FEDS DELETE RECORDS ON MUSLIMS TIED TO TERROR

Hannity on DHS whistleblower revelations: 'This is unconscionable'

Sean Hannity's TV audience has been warned: The government has willfully deleted critical information that may have prevented two recent Islamic terror attacks on American soil.

Appearing on the popular Fox News program "Hannity" Tuesday evening, former Department of Homeland Security officer Philip Haney said he was directed to delete hundreds of records he had compiled on various Muslim individuals and organizations with ties to terrorist groups.

While on assignment at the National Targeting Center, Haney had obtained valuable information on members of a worldwide Islamic group known as Tablighi Jamaat. However, in 2012, the Obama State Department effectively shut down the NTC's Tablighi Jamaat Initiative, demanding intelligence based on religious affiliation be disregarded out of concern for Muslims' civil liberties. More About DHS

DHS Hazards a Guest with Expired Visas

What exactly is Homeland Security doing when it isn't busy labeling conservatives terror threats or dishing out sex change drugs to illegals? Not its job, according to a stunning new report. Days removed from the worst radical Islamic attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, officials have been stunned to learn that DHS may be unintentionally laying the groundwork for another.

In what could be the worst crisis no one knows about, hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals who came to the United States for a limited time have grossly overstayed their visas, Congress is learning. On Tuesday, a House subcommittee was blown away to learn that 527,127 visitors who were supposed to leave in 2015 didn't. These "visa overstays," as they're called, are defined as any "nonimmigrant who was lawfully admitted to the United States for an authorized period but stayed in the United States beyond his or her lawful admission period." Now, the problem is so out of control, CNSNews reports, that as many as 60 percent of the people who are in America illegally are "overstayers."
Making matters worse, the Obama administration doesn't seem to care. Last year, a measly 2,456 were deported -- the lowest number ever under President Obama. "That sounds to me like an extension of the administration's amnesty program," Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) argued. "The message they are sending wide and far is: just get into the country. If you're not convicted of a serious crime, you're going to be allowed to stay. You're going to pass go. You're going to get the money. And that is the wrong message to send because it increases more illegal immigration." (FRC) Read more here.

Ramadan Prayers

Prayers During Ramadan:

June 16 - MAURITANIA

Christians in Mauritania are asking fellow believers to pray Luke 10:5-7 with them:

" But whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house."

- Christian workers pray daily for divine appointments with seekers, those who are interested to know more about Jesus and are willing to bring family members and friends along for the discipleship journey. Pray workers will be bold in living out our their faith so that they can find people of peace.

- Ministry workers explain: Living a life of obedience to the Lord's call is hard at times. Reaching out to neighbors looks different than in other parts of the Muslim world. Please pray for favour in learning the local language, immersing in the culture and a greater measure of openness and acceptance of foreigners by the locals.
- The fields are being prepared for harvest, but the laborers are few. Pray for more workers, particularly families and individuals with long-term commitment to join the work in Mauritania (Matthew 9:35-38).
- Persecution of believers in Mauritania can be very severe. Ask God for protection over local believers. Ask God to give them courage, along with growth in faith and works.

The Persecuted Church

The Precarious State of Middle East Christians

Klaus Wivel is a reporter writing for the Danish weekly Weekendavisen. His book about Middle Eastern Christians, The Last Supper: The Plight of Christians in Arab Lands, was just published in the United States. Wivel sat down with me recently to discuss his book, the Christian community in the Middle East, how those Christians are received in Europe, and what the future holds.

THE WEEKLY STANDARD: What drew you to the story of Middle East Christians?

KLAUS WIVEL: I started writing about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 1998. At the time of the Second Intifada, 2000-2005, it became increasingly evident that Palestinian Christians felt vulnerable. They had been an instrumental part of the Palestinian national movement, but the character of Palestinian nationalism shifted in a more Islamic direction during those years. The Christians told me that they felt like strangers in their own land, and began to leave by the thousands. I was told by Christians in Bethlehem that if the emigration kept going at this pace, no Christians would be left in a couple of decades, besides a few monks and custodians maintaining the holy sites. Being only two percent of the Palestinian population in the West Bank, this assessment wasn't an exaggeration.
Around 2006 even more catastrophic news made its way from Iraq where it was stated that up to two thirds of the Christian population--among the oldest in the world--had left the country. Several churches were bombed, priests were killed, Christians were kidnapped by the thousands, and whole areas of the major cities Baghdad and Mosul were being evicted. Jesus, keep me near the cross, There a precious fountain, Free to all-a healing stream, Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.

Refrain:

In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
From the cross my ransomed soul
Nothing then shall sever.

Near the cross, a trembling soul, Love and mercy found me; There the Bright and Morning Star Sheds its beams around me.

Near the cross! O Lamb of God, Bring its scenes before me; Help me walk from day to day, With its shadow o'er me.

Signs and Wonders

49 birds appear over Orlando shooting victims memorial - CNN

As the names of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting were being read at a vigil in Orlando, a photographer noticed something up above: A flock of birds flying by.She snapped a quick photo. But it wasn't until she counted the birds in her frame that she was truly surprised: There were 49.

"I then showed everyone around me and had them count," she said. "We were all stunned."

The photographer said she would like to remain anonymous, because she would rather people be focused on the victims of the tragedy. "Who took the photo is not as important as what is in it," she said. "May everyone find healing and peace." (Read more)
