1. PM Netanyahu Addresses the Knesset in Honor of Jerusalem Day - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

"The 49th anniversary of the reunification of Israel's capital finds Jerusalem in a clear trend of development, prosperity and accomplishments that inspire pride. There are many issues and challenges that we must address, and we are and will continue to do so. . .

"Since our very beginning as a people, our existence was tied to Jerusalem, and the awareness of this privilege is the cornerstone of our national experience and our Zionist faith. Moreover, the vast majority of the public understands that only democratic Israel can safeguard Jerusalem's existence as an open city, one that has freedom for all religions. Freedom of religion is conditional on tolerance and tolerance only exists if there is genuine willingness to respect the holy places of the other side and the sanctity of religion first and foremost. (Read entire speech here)

Prayer Focus

Rejoice with the Jewish people as they set aside a day to celebrate Jerusalem, the city the Lord loves above all other places on the earth. Pray that they will stand firm in the face of pressure from the world to divide this city once again.

Scripture

"His foundation is in the holy mountains. The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob." (Psalm 87:1-2 )

2. President Rivlin Hosts Jerusalem Unity Day Event - GPO Office, Jerusalem

As the second annual Unity Day drew to a climactic close, President Reuven Rivlin and First Lady Nechama Rivlin hosted the Jerusalem Unity Prize award ceremony at the president's residence in Jerusalem. The prize, awarded in the memory of the three boys, Gil-ad Shaer, Naftali Fraenkel, and Eyal Yifrah, who were kidnapped and murdered in June 2014, was established by mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat. The prize was awarded to honor organizations and individuals working for the sake of unity with the people of Israel, and in the Diaspora. Unity Day was held, for the second year, in partnership with the Knesset, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Equality, and other key stakeholders promoting unity in society. (Read more)

Prayer Focus

Pray that this initiative, which seeks to bring unity and understanding among different groups in Jerusalem, will grow. Give thanks that the lives of these three young men, tragically cut short by a terrorist act, are being remembered and honored as Jerusalemites work together to bring about change.

2. Netanyahu: Yes to peace, no to dividing Jerusalem - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged on Sunday not to divide Jerusalem in his pursuit of a two-state solution with the Palestinians.

"The idea of a divided, split, wounded city is one we will never return to," Netanyahu said as he spoke at a special ceremony at Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem to mark the unification of the city 49 years ago, during the Six Day War.

"We will never abandon the Kotel and our ties to the Temple Mount will never be denied," Netanyahu said.

Later in the evening, at the Mercaz Harav yeshiva, he said: "We will not be ousted from our city or our land. I will not oust people from their homes and we will not be ousted from our homes."

He spoke of the important of Israeli rule to the vision of a heavenly Jerusalem that provides a safe haven for Judaism, Christianity and Islam. (Read more)

3. Kahlon: In the end there will be two states for two peoples - Israel National News

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) on Saturday called on opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog to join the coalition, telling Channel 2 News in an interview, "At the end of the process there will be two states for two peoples here."

"At times like this people need to have the courage to show leadership despite the political and media pressure," Kahlon said of Herzog. "A leader must make decisions in difficult times. The government's door is still open, there are important and unmanned ministerial portfolios. I think there is a need [for Herzog] to make a decision and join the government."

Referring to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman's recent statements welcoming peace talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA), Kahlon told Channel 2, "We are not peace doves, we are people who want to push the peace process."

"I do believe that Jews should settle in Israel, but at the end of the process there will be two states for two peoples here," he added. (Read more)

4. Netanyahu: Deepening ties with Russia important for Israel's security - Jerusalem Post

The deepening ties between Israel and Russia are important for the country's security, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday as he addressed a Jerusalem Day ceremony on the eve of his Monday departure to Moscow.

On Tuesday he will hold his fourth face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in less than a year to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries and to celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations.

On the day that marks the unification of Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War, Netanyahu could not help but reflect on what an enormous difference time makes in the relationships between nations. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin disinvited from Army prayer breakfast - Fox News

Ordained minister and retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin was set to deliver remarks at a military prayer breakfast, but the event was rescheduled and he was not retained after an advocacy group complained about his biblical view of sexual morality and past criticisms of Islam.

Fort Riley, home of the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in Kansas, said the disinvitation from the base's D-Day anniversary celebration for this upcoming Monday was the result of "scheduling conflicts." But it came less than 24 hours after the Military Religious Freedom Foundation lobbied the base not to host Mr. Boykin, saying his "fanatical" religious views constituted a threat to unit cohesion and morale.

Mr. Boykin said he found out he had been dropped from the event on Wednesday when a newspaper contacted him for an interview. (Read more)

- Abba Father, it seems that every day Christians lose another privilege to share our faith in You, the one true God. What a disgraceful happening that a decorated Lieutenant General of the United States Army would be disinvited to speak at a military prayer breakfast. The Military Religious Freedom Foundation evidently has more power than Christians.

Indeed, Lord God, the very name of this group is a lie, as they clearly do not include the religious freedom of Christians. It makes one wonder what religions they do represent. As You said, Jesus, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." The group did not have the courtesy to inform Mr. Boykin that he would not be speaking. Lord deal with the ones who made the decision to deny military personnel the opportunity to hear remarks by this Christian leader. Bless General Boykin that he will continue to speak Your truth, and keep Him under the shelter of Your wing. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.

- " . . . and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they stumble." (Mark 4:17)

2. Elementary School Calls Police on 7-Y-O Boy for Sharing Bible Verses - Christian Post

A California public school called a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff in Palmdale to reprimand a 7-year-old student for handing out Bible verses, warning that such actions are "offensive." Santa Monica Observer reported that the student, who attends Desert Rose Elementary, had been handing out Bible verses given to him in the form of short notes from his mother, Christina Zavala, alongside his lunch. The young boy distributed the Bible verses while standing on a public sidewalks outside the school.

He also shared other verses and short Bible stories among his friends, until a first-grade teacher saw one of those notes. The teacher reportedly publicly rebuked the boy, and then called his parents, warning them that such actions go against the separation of church and state.

The boy, however, allegedly continued to distribute Bible verses out at the school gate, and subsequently he and his parents were told by the school's principal that what they were doing is not permitted. Later that day, a Los Angeles deputy sheriff went to the family's home to inform the parents that Desert Rose Elementary School had filed a report against the child for sharing Bible verses. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for the parents of this 7-year-old who have taught their son to be a missionary to his school mates. Father, bless these parents and their child as they have taken a stand for You. Protect them and may no harm come to this family. Every note this child shared is a testimony for You. Thank You that this little one had the courage to continue, without fear of consequences. Let the teacher and all those opposed to this child's actions come under Your conviction to know You as their personal savior. If they do not,let Your will be done with them. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent me." (Mark 9:37)

3. Record 94,708,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Drops in May - CNSNews.com

A record 94,708,000 Americans were not in the labor force in May -- 664,000 more than in April -- and the labor force participation rate dropped two-tenths of a point to 62.6 percent, near its 38-year low, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.

When President Obama took office in January 2009, 80,529,000 Americans were not participating in the labor force; since then, 14,179,000 Americans have left the workforce -- some of them retiring and some just quitting because they can't find work.

"By almost every economic measure, America is better off than when I came here at the beginning of my presidency," President Obama told the people of Elkhart, Indiana three days ago. "We cut unemployment in half, years before a lot of economists thought we would." But the labor force participation rate has deteriorated over Obama's two terms. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, the labor force in the United States has been struggling for years, so people have lost their jobs and their benefits. Lord, we see reports of how secure the labor force is, but the numbers of unemployed don't balance with those reports. A balance sheet that isn't balanced indicates miscalculations, if not intentional deception. Your ways always equal truth. Let the things hidden and out of balance be brought to Your light. Thank You for having mercy on the people of the United States. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Honest weights and scales are the Lord's; All the weights in the bag are His work." (Proverbs 16:11)

4. Smuggling network guided illegals from Middle East terror hotbeds to U.S. border - Washington Times

A smuggling network has managed to sneak illegal immigrants from Middle Eastern terrorism hotbeds straight to the doorstep of the U.S., including helping one Afghan who authorities say was part of an attack plot in North America.

Immigration officials have identified at least a dozen Middle Eastern men smuggled into the Western Hemisphere by a Brazilian-based network that connected them with Mexicans who guided them to the U.S. border, according to internal government documents reviewed by The Washington Times.

Those smuggled included Palestinians, Pakistanis and the Afghan man who Homeland Security officials said had family ties to the Taliban and was "involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. and/or Canada." He is in custody, but The Times is withholding his name at the request of law enforcement to protect investigations.

Some of the men handled by the smuggling network were nabbed before they reached the U.S., but others made it into the country. The Afghan man was part of a group of six from "special-interest countries."

The group, guided by two Mexicans employed by the smuggling network, crawled under the border fence in Arizona late last year and made it about 15 miles north before being detected by border surveillance, according to the documents, which were obtained by Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican. (Read more)

- Father, we understand that, nowadays, our nation is under a daily threat from those who are infiltrating our land, bent upon doing us harm. We thank You that this one Afghan man has been apprehended, Lord, but we know that there are now many, many others on our soil of like mind and background. Father God, would You please undertake on our behalf, show us Your mercy, and help those in authority to locate each and every terrorist who is now roaming the streets of America. In Your name, amen.

- "O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs-
O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth!
Rise up, O Judge of the earth;
Render punishment to the proud.
Lord, how long will the wicked,
How long will the wicked triumph?"
(Psalm 94:1-3)

5. 5. War on Suburbs: Obama, Julian Castro Rev Up Affirmative Action Housing - Breitbart

President Obama and a famous Castro brother are uniting to subjugate American suburbs with the unlawful "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule," (AFFH) and no one in the mainstream media seems to care. The Castro in question is Julian Castro, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, not Cuban dictator Fidel or his brother Raul, though the actual content of the administrative rule makes it hard to tell the difference.

The AFFH rule "gives the federal government a lever to re-engineer nearly every American neighborhood - imposing a preferred racial and ethnic composition, densifying housing, transportation, and business development in suburb and city alike, and weakening or casting aside the authority of local governments over core responsibilities, from zoning to transportation to education," as National Review's Stanley Kurtz put it last week.

Though the Republican-controlled Congress seems unwilling to exercise its constitutional authority through the power of the purse to defund Obamacare, the bureaucrats at the Department of Housing of Urban Development have no such reticence. In fact, it is precisely their plan to force state and local governments to comply with the onerous social engineering components of this new rule by withholding federal grants from state and local governments if they fail to comply. (Read more)

- Father God, we are getting information from other sources that there is much more to this plan than meets the eye. Indeed, this is a planned takeover of our nation; a quiet scheme to deprive us of our rights of citizenship and land ownership, and a sure path to a Marxist statel Help us, O Lord, we pray! Help our leaders to awaken to this threat, and to do all in their power to abolish this scheme. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

- "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." (Proverbs 19:21)

6. The Iran Deal Wasn't About Nukes At All - The Federalist

Quote: The White House and its supporters were set on two goals, one of them trivial, the other terrifying. The trivial objective was to give a failed presidency at least one foreign policy legacy item. That was to be expected, since the Obama administration, in permanent campaign mode since the day the president took office, has presided over the worst American foreign policy in the modern era.

The more stomach-churning objective is that the administration, as it turned out, really believed in its pledges to get America out of the Middle East, and decided early on that the only way to do this was to replace the United States in the region with a duumvirate of Russia and Iran. Here, the JCPOA was part of a huge gamble to transform the region, with nuclear weapons the secondary rather than primary issue. That's why J Street and others were involved: they were far less concerned with notional Iranian nuclear weapons than they were with advancing President Obama's Middle East legacy-without having to admit what it was. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that all hidden agendas in this administration would come to light, and that those that are not in alignment with Your perfect will for our people (and the people of the Middle East), be canceled. We ask this in Your name, amen.

- "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." (I John 5:14,15)

7. Behind the scenes, U.S. turns to Vatican to help diffuse crisis in Venezuela - Fox News

As Venezuela continues on a downward political and financial spiral, the Obama administration is turning to the Vatican and other former heads of state from the Spanish-speaking world to help smooth things over.

According to the Los Angeles Times, U.S. officials are being careful to stay behind the scenes in order to avoid criticism from Venezuelan leaders that they are interfering in the country's affairs.

It's a particularly delicate time in the South American nation, where President Nicolás Maduro is facing growing calls from opponents who want to recall him and demonstrators attempting to storm the presidential palace while chanting, "No more talk. We want food."

Secretary of State John F. Kerry called Rodríguez Zapatero to tell him that the United States supports his efforts to mediate the dispute between Maduro and those who want him ousted.

Kerry also issued a public statement that said, "The secretary reiterated that the United States supports political dialogue and peaceful, democratic solutions
and reaffirmed that any U.S. involvement would only be in support of an agreed-upon Venezuelan solution consistent with constitutional principles." (Read more)
- Father, we hear from friends on the land in Venezuela that the situation there is much worse than is being reported. They lack even the most basic necessities now: diapers, toilet paper, medicines and food. In desperation, many are trying to grow food for themselves.

Father, we cannot even imagine such tragedy, but we ask that You, Most High God, would intervene and show them Your mercy. Please make a way for all of their needs to be met, and for the government to serve the people instead of protecting itself. We ask this in Your name, amen.

- Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27)

8. Friends, foes or frenemies? North Korea and China appear to patch things up - CNN

A high level North Korean delegation turned up in Beijing unannounced this week and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping -- the first time a North Korean official has met China's leader since 2013. The meeting between top North Korean diplomat Ri Su Yong and Xi caught North Korea watchers by surprise. On paper, China is North Korea's closest and most powerful ally but it's is no secret that relations between Beijing and Pyongyang have been at a low point in recent years. (Read more)

- Lord God, if this report is true, this will change the whole equation in that part of Asia. Much as men may try to find peace, we realize there can be no true peace unless it abides in the hearts of men. We pray for all the peoples of China and North Korea, that each one will come to find that peace that can only come from knowing You as personal Savior and Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.

- " . . . You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation . . ." (Rev. 5:9)

9. Paris summit ends with vague call for international conference by year's end- Times of Israel

One-day Israeli-Palestinian peace summit in Paris - to which the Israelis and Palestinians were not invited - concluded Friday with a warning that violence and settlement activity are imperiling a two-state solution, and a call for an international conference on the issue before the end of the year.

"We must act, urgently, to preserve the two-state solution, revive it before it is too late," French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said after the meeting.

The closing communique did not set a firm timetable for further efforts, however. And while France portrayed Friday's meeting as a first step by the international community to weigh different options, the Americans have been chilly towards the talks, although Secretary of State John Kerry attended, and Israel has flatly opposed to French efforts, calling instead on the Palestinians to enter direct peace talks without conditions. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You that this conference has ended with no tangible outcomes in place. Once again, the plans of men have yielded to Your Kingdom plans, and protection, for Your people, Israel.

In the meantime, as France and all of Europe continue to battle the historic flooding now happening across the continent, we ask that You would cause their leaders to sit up and take note. It is written: those who curse you, I will curse. In Your name, amen.

- "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Gen. 12:3)

10. Europe is in Denial About Putin's Threat of War - Newsweek

European leaders will gather later this month to discuss whether to extend sanctions against Russia over the Kremlin's hybrid war in Ukraine. The current sanctions regime will likely remain in place, but the mere fact the subject is up for debate is evidence of Europe's alarming refusal to acknowledge the new security reality facing the continent.

Many inside the EU seem unwilling to admit the 25-year honeymoon period of European peace and prosperity since 1991 is over. They cling to the idea of a return to the old "business as usual" status quo, and appear to believe Russian aggression is only an issue for Moscow's immediate neighbors.

This policy of obstinate denial is not only morally bankrupt-it also encourages the Kremlin to escalate a hybrid war campaign designed to reverse the results of the Cold War and break up the European Union itself. (Read more)

- Father, today is the 72nd anniversary of D-Day: June 6, 1944. Lord, as we recall that great day of victory that stopped the Nazi invasion of England and eventually ended that great war, Lord we also remember the tremendous suffering our troops endured to secure our freedom.

Lord, let the world's leaders never forget that time, and do all they can to prevent another war in Europe. We ask this in Your name, amen.

- "To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: . . . A time of war, And a time of peace." (Ecclesiastes 3: 1,8)

The prophetic reality

Some Daily Jot readers and others who have read Daily Jots that have been forwarded are taking me to task over reporting what Republican Donald Trump is saying about the media. In fact, every time something is written about Trump, doesn't matter what it is, Christians are appalled that he is even mentioned in a Daily Jot. One accused me of Trump being my Messiah. Another wrote an email repeatedly calling Trump a liar. Another saying Trump is not a Christian. Others say that Trump is part of the global one world order conspiracy. To be fair, many more Christians are saying they support Donald Trump. The prophetic reality is that the upcoming election is more about destiny than candidates.

I say prophetic because this nation-whether people want to believe it or not-was not only founded, but built, on godly principles. I'm not saying that every person was a Christian. Neither am I saying that there were not wrongs and injustices heaped upon some. But I am saying that for the most part Americans followed God's principles in establishing this country. Our laws, our way of life, our general treatment of others were conducted in a manner that tried to abide in God's word. We have been a nation that supports godly principles worldwide-spreading of the gospel, support of human rights and freedom, support for Israel, and until recently, an adherence to the moral code of scriptures. We have been blessed.

No, Trump is not my messiah. I do not know what kind of president he will make. But I do know what the alternative is, and what hangs in the balance for a nation that turns away from God. In California, Brietbart reports on a Trump rally where "demonstrators" were aggressively pushing Trump supporters around and chanting and holding signs that read "America was never great," "F-k Donald Trump and his hate," "This is Mexico and you're not welcome," and more. Trump supporters were beaten and bloodied. We have reported before that George Soros, a true one world order guy, is paying for these thugs, and they are part of La Raza-a radical Hispanic group--and the Communist Party.

These are the same people that support the current "president" and the current presidential candidates-socialists Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. They are also those who are supported by the current "president" and the Democratic Party's socialist candidates. Herein is the clash in ideals between Trump and Clinton/Sanders. A socialist America, a godless America, is what Clinton/Sanders are aiming to foment. This shapes America's prophetic destiny. Your actions in the upcoming months in who you support, criticize, speak against, will also shape our prophetic destiny. Jesus says in Matthew 25 that nations will be judged as well as individuals, "he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats." That's prophetic reality. And your actions regarding our country help determine it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Updates: UCLA Shootings

Murdered UCLA Professor Was a Devout Christian

William Klug, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was shot and killed yesterday afternoon on UCLA's campus. The gunman, identified as Mainak Sarkar, reportedly had a kill-list. He shot Klug, then himself.

Police say before that he killed a woman in Minnesota. Her name hasn't been released.

Klug's death shook students, faculty and staff. Many of them say they were touched through his strong faith in God.

Along with being a husband and father of two, Klug is remembered as being a "devout" Christian and "extremely sweet and kind" by one of his former colleagues, Professor Alan Garfinkle. (Breaking Christian News) Read more here.

Identity of UCLA Shooter Finally Revealed

Officials have finally revealed the identity of the shooter that killed a woman in Minnesota before driving 2,000 miles to UCLA to shoot a professor and killing himself. Mainak Sarkar, age 38, a Muslim from India, a student at UCLA with a PhD in solid mechanics killed his professor, William Klug, on Wednesday. Police later discovered the body of Ashley Hasti, Sarkar's estranged wife, in her Minnesota home.

On Wednesday, police locked down UCLA for two hours after Sarkar shot and killed his engineering professor Klug, 39, at a small office on the campus. He fatally shot himself after the killing, police said, leaving behind a note asking someone to feed his cat. . . .
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck told reporters on Thursday that Sarkar was armed with two 9 mm pistols and multiple ammunition clips. He killed himself immediately after fatally shooting Klug, he said. The guns were purchased legally and at least one was registered to Sarkar. A search of his home revealed more ammunition.

Police discovered a "kill list" of intended victims at Sarkar's home, which included another UCLA professor who was off-campus at the time of the shooting and was unharmed. (Breaking Israel News) Read more.

- Father, we are grieved to learn of the loss of this very fine professor, and brother in Christ, at UCLA. Father, we thank You that the other people whose names were on this "kill list" were not harmed. We ask for Your comfort to surround the family and friends of Professor Klug, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

"Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing." (I Thessalonians 5:11)

Weather Alert

EAST COAST ON ALERT: Tropical Storm Colin forms in Gulf of Mexico, severe storms target Mid-Atlantic

Much of Florida's western coast was placed under a tropical storm warning Sunday as Tropical Storm Colin formed in the Gulf of Mexico, as a separate storm system brought severe weather and damaging winds to the Mid-Atlantic region.

Colin is on course to hit Florida as soon as Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center, which warned the storm could cause serious flooding along much of the state's Gulf coast.

The center added the quickly moving storm is the earliest a third named storm has ever formed in the Atlantic basin.

The storm was moving at a speed of about 12 mph, and was expected to pick up the pace later Sunday.

"It's going to impact most of the state in some way," Gov. Rick Scott told the Associated Press. "Hopefully we won't have any significant issues here, but we can have some storm surge, some rain, tornados and some flooding."

Tropical storms carry wind speeds of between 39 mph and 73 mph.

Tropical Storm Colin is likely to bring dangerous rainfall levels, and residents were warned about possible flooding and hazardous driving conditions. Rain began falling in the Tampa Bay area just past noon on Sunday. (Fox News)Read more

9 Fort Hood Soldiers Die in Flooding

Nine Fort Hood Soldiers Dead in Historic Flooding:
Texas Declares State of Emergency

"Heavy rains have drenched central Texas over the past couple of weeks, causing rivers and streams to swell," said Nathan Bernier of KUT in Austin.

"That's what happened at Fort Hood," he added, "and when the driver of a tactical vehicle carrying a group of soldiers tried to pass a low-water crossing, the vehicle was swept away and overturned."

A Fort Hood statement noted that three soldiers who had been injured in the accident had been rescued and were in stable condition. Meanwhile, search and rescue teams are looking for four missing soldiers.

Governor Greg Abbott has since declared a state of emergency in 31 Texas counties. (Breaking Christian News) Read more.

Fort Hood releases names of soldiers killed in training accident

Fort Hood officials released the names of eight of the nine soldiers Saturday who were killed earlier this week in Texas after floodwaters overturned an Army tactical vehicle at a low-water crossing during a training exercise.

Officials identified the soldiers as Staff Sgt. Miguel Angel Colonvazquez, 38, of Brooklyn, New York; Spc. Christine Faith Armstrong, 27, of Twentynine Palms, California; Pfc. Brandon Austin Banner, 22, of Milton, Florida; Pfc. Zachery Nathaniel Fuller, 23, of Palmetto, Florida; Pvt. Isaac Lee Deleon, 19, of San Angelo, Texas; Pvt. Eddy Raelaurin Gates, 20, of Dunn, North Carolina; Pvt. Tysheena Lynette James, 21, of Jersey City, New Jersey; and Cadet Mitchell Alexander Winey, 21, of Valparaiso, Indiana.

Officials with the post said the name of the ninth soldier who died won't be released until the family can be notified.
Defense Chief Ash Carter, who has been in Asia for a security summit, said he has been updated on the deaths of the soldiers and released a statement Saturday.

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of nine brave soldiers in this training accident. This tragedy has touched the 1st Cavalry Division, the Fort Hood community, and the entire Department of Defense," Carter said. "It painfully demonstrates, along with the loss of a Blue Angels pilot this week, the risks our men and women in uniform take on behalf of the American people every day.

"I am immensely grateful for the efforts of the military and civilian personnel who responded to the Fort Hood incident, and for the safe recovery of three soldiers. We will learn from this incident and do what we can to prevent something like this from happening again." (Fox News) Read more.

- Father, we are so sad at the news of the death of fine soldiers at Fort Hood. Please comfort their loved ones, we pray, in Your name, amen.

- "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God." (Isaiah 40:1)

A Word for Parents

What to Say to Your Child About Transgender Bathrooms

My nephew was 9 years old when he asked his mother this question. How would you answer? Ready or not, the question is coming. With the legalization of gay marriage and Obama's recent directive that all public schools provide transgender bathrooms or risk the loss of federal funding, parents are officially swimming in uncharted territory.

It's an ocean of relativism, where absolute truth is outdated at best and offensive at worst. The only "reality" in our society is that people determine their own reality. Giving individuals the freedom to formulate their own "truth" is seen as tolerant while denying such a freedom is often viewed as arrogant and small-minded.
But it wasn't always this way. There was a time when mainstream society held to certain absolute truths, such as the biological and scientific truth that God created two genders: male and female (Gen. 1:27). Basic societal laws regarding marriage, restrooms, college dormitories, organized sports and the like supported this absolute truth.

Not anymore.

Ramadan Begins Today

Ramadan 2016:

Begins on Monday, June 6th and ends on Tuesday, July 5th.

How Christians Can Pray for Muslims During Ramadan
> > > Editor's note:

In honor of Ramadan this year, and our desire to intercede for the people of Islam to come to our Messiah, we will print a series of articles and/or prayer requests in upcoming days. We encourage each of you to please devote some time in prayer, lifting up your own friends and neighbors that God would move upon their hearts and show them His salvation. In His Name, amen.

Key Verse:

""I was sought by those who did not ask for Me;
I was found by those who did not seek Me.
I said, 'Here I am, here I am,'
To a nation that was not called by My name."
(Isaiah 65:1)

INTRODUCTION

Many of us have Muslim friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers we hope to see trust in Jesus. We know they consider Jesus a prophet, but we long to see them believe in Him as their Lord and Savior. As Ramadan approaches, we are provided with a fresh opportunity to pray for them and hopefully engage with them in spiritual conversation.

A PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF ISLAM (Part One)

Father, we pray that as they set their hearts to worship their god Allah, that You might make them to "know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Help them see that Jesus is Your eternal Son through whom they can have eternal life.

- "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3)

Classic Hymns

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY

"Let me tell you what He has done for me." (Psalm 66:16)

Lyrics

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story, because I know 'tis true;
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

Refrain

I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story, it did so much for me;
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee.

Refrain

I love to tell the story; 'tis pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God's own holy Word.

Refrain

I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,
'Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

Refrain

About the hymn:

"Last winter a young man appeared here from British Columbia," says a letter from Surrey, England. "He was in the Royal Marines. He was a total abstainer and was doing all he could to promote temperance among his comrades. While here he went to church, and the curate, who had a conversation with him, was much pleased with his manly behavior and resolute desire to do right. He wore a medal and had good conduct marks on his clothes. This man was the little boy whom Miss T. had picked up in Battersea Park many years before, and who had learned of the gospel of salvation entirely by listening to the maidservants singing sacred songs while scrubbing the doorsteps and cleaning windows. The hymn that, as a child, he seemed to make entirely his own was, 'I love to tell the story,' though he knew several others when he was picked up in the park. As he had never been to church or chapel, the hymns were the only channel through which divine truth had been conveyed to him, and by which the first seed was sown in his heart that made him a man of character and usefulness."

Europe floods: First evacuation warning in flood-hit Paris suburbs
as waters rise over 20ft

Torrential downpours have lashed parts of northern Europe in recent days, leaving 11 people dead across Europe, breaching the banks of the Seine in Paris and flooding rural roads and villages. A number of towns in Germany have been seriously damaged by the flooding, with Poland and Belgium also affected.

In Paris, the French Open tennis tournament was hit for a second day by the miserable weather with play stopped during a match featuring world number one Novak Djokovic. A prison in Saran, central France had to be evacuated, with some 400 detainees shifted to other facilities, according to prison authorities. Cars on the nearby A10 motorway were brought to a standstill by flooding. One car that had tried to make it through was half-sunk in the water. (The Telegraph UK) Read more.

- Jesus, the winds and waves obey You. Have mercy on the people in Europe who are in the flooded areas facing loss of life and property. We ask that the rain cease by Your command. Let the lost souls come to You and be witnesses to all as they glorify Your name. Thank You for providing protection for these people.

- "He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace be still!!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm." (Mark 4:39)

Evangelist Will Graham Returns to Australian Outback, Reaps a Great Harvest from Others' Dedicated Sowing

New Life Springs Up in Australian Desert at Will Graham Event

Evangelist Will Graham returned to Australia last week - a continent on which he's preached biannually since 2010 - to share the hope of Jesus in the arid Outback. The three-day event, titled Reality, was held May 20-22 at Blatherskite Park in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

Alice Springs is located in the approximate center of the continent, nearly equidistant between Darwin on the northern coast of Australia and Adelaide on the southern coast.

In this remote town of 28,605, nearly 6,000 people attended the weekend event.

"Some of you have a broken life and God doesn't use band aids. God wants to completely change you," said Graham from the podium. "Salvation is a Person and His name is Jesus. Jesus can change everything in life. He can change your life tonight!"

At Graham's invitation, a total of 549 people made a commitment to Jesus. An additional 297 responded for prayer and spiritual support. (BillyGraham.org) Read more.
