1. 'We Feel Safer in Israel:' Nice's Jews Fearful But Defiant After ISIS-Claimed Truck Massacre - Newsweek

As red and white trains rattle along the tracks of the Gare de Nice-Ville station, a crowd of Jewish women and kippah-wearing men is gathering behind armed guards on Platform One to listen to Jewish community leaders, the local Rabbanim and the region's president Christian Estrosi.

The event is a memorial for Nice's Jews deported from the country under the Nazi regime during World War II. Commuters watch on as the crowd bursts into La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. The community has deep historical ties to the French Riviera city, dating back to the 9th century, and this rousing rendition is a symbol of the patriotism that the 25,000-strong Jewish community here holds.

"The Jewish community in Nice has historically always played an important role in social cohesion, in the economic development of the city and in their message for peace," Estrosi tells Newsweek. "Here, the Nazi barbary was more violent than anywhere else. This is why it is crucial that we show solidarity. Hurting a Jew anywhere in France or hurting a Jew in Nice is the same as hurting any single one of us." (Read more)

2. Israel claims partial victory as UNESCO delays vote to erase Jewish ties to Temple Mount - Jerusalem Post

The failed Turkish coup over the weekend delayed until October a UNESCO vote on Jerusalem that ignores Jewish ties to the Temple Mount.

The 21-members of the World Heritage Committee had been scheduled to vote on the matter in the coming days as it wrapped up its 40th session in Istanbul which had been scheduled to run from July 10 to July 20.

But in the aftermath of Saturday's failed coup, the body cut the session short and debated only a limited number of items before concluding the Istanbul meeting.

The Palestinian delegation, along with Lebanon and Peru, pushed for the resolution to be heard on Sunday in spite of the condensed agenda. (Read more)

3. Peter Beinart joins US Jews for civil rights-style protest in West Bank - Times of Israel

HEBRON, West Bank (JTA) - Dozens of American Jews spent Friday in the West Bank practicing nonviolent resistance against Israel's presence here.

On hand to help were some bold-faced names in the American Jewish community's Israel debate, including Peter Beinart, a leading liberal US Jewish thinker, and Amna Farooqi, the Muslim president of J Street U.

The activists used tactics familiar from the US civil rights movement to provoke Israeli authorities in Hebron - the most volatile city in the West Bank and the site of frequent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians. When many of the activists staged a sit-in and refused a military order to leave a Palestinian property, Israeli police detained six of them with dual Israeli citizenship. (Read more)

4. Aliyah 'airlift' kicks off Tuesday with 220 North American olim - Israel Hayom

Some 220 North American Jews are expected to make aliyah Tuesday on a chartered plane under the auspices of the Nefesh B'Nefesh organization. The organization says it plans to fly almost 2,000 olim from Canada and the United States this summer, joining the 45,000 who have made aliyah through the organization over the years.

According to organizers, the flight includes single men and women who went to prestigious universities and who, despite having lucrative job offers, decided to realize their Zionist dream. One oleh on the flight is a man in his 70s and some 31 olim on the flight plan to live in the Negev Desert or the Galilee. (Read more)

5. BIN Exclusive: Priestly Blessing Takes Place on Temple Mount, Under Muslims' Watchful Eyes [VIDEO] - Breaking Israel News

Amihai Ariel, the father of Hallel Ariel, a 13-year-old Israeli girl who was brutally murdered on June 30, held a memorial ceremony for her on Tuesday on the Temple Mount. In an unmitigated act of bravery, he defied the Muslim religious authority and performed a powerful Temple ritual, right under their watchful eyes.

A group of 50 close friends and family surrounded Amihai, and his wife Rina, as they prepared to enter the VIP entrance to the Temple Mount compound, accompanied by Israeli police. Before ascending, Amihai Ariel blew a silver trumpet created to be used in the Third Temple. He also blew a shofar (ram's horn), of the kind used in the Temple service.

Guards from the Waqf, the Muslim religious authority, joined the Ariels and the 200 others who were with them in order to ensure that the Jewish visitors adhered to all the specified conditions for non-Muslims at the site. These restrictions include a prohibition against all non-Muslim prayer, including any motions that could resemble praying or speaking to God. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. U.S. shootings heighten security concerns at Republican convention - Reuters

Security was extraordinarily tight with downtown streets lined by concrete traffic dividers and tall metal fences, propelled by a new urgency after an attacker drove his truck into a holiday crowd in Nice, France, last week, killing 84 people.

Jeff Larson, chief executive officer of the convention, said he was not worried about the open carry law. "There's going to be plenty of law enforcement in downtown Cleveland," he told reporters. "I feel good about the security and what we've done." (Read more)

- (Please be sure to read the entire article before offering this prayer. Thank you.)

Heavenly Father, unity is missing in our nation. We pray Jesus' prayer- for us to be one, just as He and You are one. May we, the Body of Christ, provide a unified and unifying presence in both the Republican and Democrat conventions.

- "I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one- I in them and you in me-so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:22-23)

2. Kasich says hands tied as Cleveland police union seeks open-carry ban for convention - Fox News

Ohio Gov. John Kasich's office rebuffed a call Sunday from the Cleveland police union to ban the open carry of firearms during the Republican National Convention, in the wake of the deadly shooting of police officers in Baton Rouge.

FOX 8 reported earlier that Steve Loomis, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, is asking Kasich to prohibit open carry this week in Cuyahoga County, which surrounds Cleveland. A spokeswoman, though, indicated the governor's hands are tied when it comes to unilaterally changing a state law like open carry.

"Law enforcement is a noble, essential calling and we all grieve that we've again seen attacks on officers. Ohio governors do not have the power to arbitrarily suspend federal and state constitutional rights or state laws as suggested," Kasich spokeswoman Emmalee Kalmbach said. "The bonds between our communities and police must be reset and rebuilt -- as we're doing in Ohio -- so our communities and officers can both be safe. Everyone has an important role to play in that renewal."

Convention CEO Jeff Larson, at a press briefing in Cleveland late Sunday, echoed the governor's office. "The governor can't simply say, I'm going to relax [the law] for a day," Larson said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your Holy Spirit to hover over the convention, providing a canopy of Your peace. May no one even feel the need to draw a weapon this week, citizen or police.

- "The Lord protects and preserves them-they are counted among the blessed in the land-he does not give them over to the desire of their foes." (Psalm 41:2)

3. 3rd officer acquitted in black man's police custody death - AP

A judge further hollowed out the case against six police officers charged in the death of a young black man, delivering a third consecutive acquittal and ruling once again that prosecutors failed to prove officers intentionally hurt Freddie Gray. In acquitting Lt. Brian Rice, the highest ranking officer charged, Baltimore Circuit Judge Barry Williams was unequivocal in his ruling Monday. He told prosecutors they failed to establish that Rice was aware of his duty to buckle Gray into a seat belt, and more importantly, that he deliberately breached his duty in order to put Gray in danger.

"There are a number of possibilities this court could entertain, some that are innocent and some that are not," Williams said. "However, the burden of proof rests with the state, and the court's imaginings do not serve as a substitute for evidence."

Gray was arrested in April 2015 when he ran from police in a high-crime area. He was handcuffed and shackled but left unbuckled in the back of a police van and suffered a critical neck injury. Gray's name became a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement, fueling outrage nationwide over the treatment of black people by the criminal justice system and prompting the worst rioting in the city in decades.

"I'm disgusted, as usual, and they're sending a daily message all across the world that our lives don't matter, and that's sad," said Tawanda Jones outside the courthouse Monday. She was there marking the third anniversary of her brother's death in a separate case involving Baltimore police. "We're more than hashtags and body bags," she added. (Read more)

- Father, You are the one who hears the heart-cry of African-Americans and their desire for justice. We pray You would heal these wounds and reconcile our people to one another.

- " . . . he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us . . . "
(2 Corinthians 5:19b-20a)

4. Slain Baton Rouge Officer: 'In Uniform I Get Nasty Hateful Looks and Out of Uniform Some Consider Me a Threat' - CNSNews.com

One of three police officers gunned down Sunday in Baton Rouge, La., wrote about the struggles he faced as an officer and a black man three days after Alton Sterling was fatally shot during a police encounter in the same city. Three officers - Montrell Jackson, Matthew Gerald and Brad Garafola - were gunned down by 29-year-old Gavin Eugene Long, a former Marine, who later died in a shootout with police.

In an emotional Facebook post on July 8, Officer Montrell Jackson wrote: "I'm tired physically and emotionally. Disappointed in some family, friends, and officers for some reckless comments but hey what's in your heart is in your heart. I still love you all because hate takes too much energy but I definitely won't be looking at you the same."

He thanked people who reached out to him and his wife in the wake of Sterling's death and then talked about the "hateful looks" he got from people while in his police uniform and how when he's not in uniform, some consider him "a threat. . . I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me a threat," Jackson wrote. "I've experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core."

"Finally I personally want to send prayers out to everyone directly affected by this tragedy. These are trying times. Please don't let hate infect your heart. This city MUST and WILL get better. I'm working in these streets, so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you," Jackson concluded. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You for this good man, who now abides with You at Your Throne of grace. Abba Father God, may his final words be a testimony and a message to all of us, for in You, we must be "color blind" and realize that we are each one of Your creations, uniquely designed by Your hand to fulfill a destiny on earth. We ask that the words of Officer Montrell Jackson would pierce many hearts to find the truth of Your love, and our need to repent for falling short in the area of race relations. We ask this prayer, in Your name, amen.

- "For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth." (2 Corinthians 13:8)

5. Baton Rouge Shooter Declared Himself a 'Sovereign Citizen,' Which FBI Considers 'Growing Domestic Threat to Law Enforcement' - CNSNews.com

Gavin Eugene Long, the 29-year-old gunman who fatally shot three Baton Rouge police officers on Sunday, considered himself a "sovereign citizen," part of a group that believes government and law enforcement does not hold any authority, which the FBI considers "a domestic terrorist movement," the Kansas City Star reported Monday. According to the Star, "Long declared himself a sovereign in records filed with the Jackson County recorder of deeds last year."

In a YouTube video posted on July 10 - days before the Dallas police shootings which claimed the lives of five police officers - Long said he traveled to Dallas and was in town during the sniper shooting, which he called "justice," the Star reported. Long claimed that history shows "100 percent of revolutions, of victims fighting their oppression, from victims fighting their bullies, 100 percent have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed." Long said he's "affiliated with the spirit of justice: nothing else, nothing more, nothing less."

"Don't affiliate me with nothing," Long said. "Yeah, I was also a Nation of Islam member, I'm not affiliated with it. . . They'll try to put you with ISIS or some other terrorist group - no," he said in a video posted 10 days before he shot and killed Officers Montrell Jackson, Matthew Gerald and Brad Garafola.

According to CBS News, the FBI called sovereign citizens "a growing domestic threat to law enforcement" in a 2011 law enforcement bulletin." The bulletin said the FBI "considers sovereign-citizen extremists as comprising a domestic terrorist movement." (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that this movement of "Sovereign Citizens" has now been revealed to us, that we may pray for the deliverance and the salvation of each one who is caught up in this group. We praise You, Abba Father, that we are citizens of a much better Kingdom, even as we obey the authorities who rule over us on earth. We bind the spirit of lawlessness that is the foundation of the Sovereign Citizen movement, and we loose Your Spirit to rule and to reign in our land, in Your name, amen.

- "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)

6. Turkey detains 6,000 over coup attempt as Erdogan vows to 'clean state of virus' - The Guardian UK

Turkey has accelerated its crackdown following Friday's coup attempt, detaining 6,000 people, as the president, Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, vowed to purge the state of supporters of a US-based Islamist scholar and dissident whom his government blames for the failed putsch.

Speaking at a funeral in Istanbul on Sunday, Erdoğan vowed to "clean all state institutions of the virus" of Fethullah Gülen supporters. Members of what he called the "Gülen group" have "ruined" the armed forces, he said, and are being arrested in all ranks within the army. Broadcaster CNN Turk said Erdoğan's chief military assistant, Ali Yazici, was among those being held.

Erdoğan also said Turkey would request the extradition of Gülen, who has been given sanctuary in the American state of Pennsylvania, and his backers. A Turkish foreign ministry spokesman said more than 290 people, including "more than 100 coup plotters" had been killed and 1,400 wounded. (Read more)

- Lord God Almighty, we come before You today and we cry out for the lives of those who are now in danger under Turkey's President Erdogan. Abba Father God, we see that Your Spirit is not ruling in this nation, for you came to bring us life, and that more abundantly. We ask that You place a restraining force over the mind of Mr. Erdogan, and to teach him Your ways in governing. We ask this in Your Name, amen.

- "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." (Proverbs 29:2)

7. Erdogan's rival: Coup attempt may have been staged - Israel National News

Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen, a rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who was blamed for the failed coup in Turkey, hinted on Saturday the uprising by members of the country's military could have been "staged" by the government. In a rare and brief interview on Saturday with a small group of journalists at his residence in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, Gulen rejected all accusations that he was behind the coup attempt. "I don't believe that the world believes the accusations made by President Erdogan," Gulen said, according to the British Guardian newspaper. "There is a possibility that it could be a staged coup and it could be meant for further accusations [against the Gulenists]," he added. (Read more)

- Father, forgive him, for he knows not what he does. This possible plot of President Erdogan is right out of the playbook of Joseph Stalin, who also purposely staged coups in his time in order to "flush out" his own enemies, and then to have them executed. Again, we ask for the restraining force of the Holy Spirit to rule today in Turkey, until men can learn of Your ways. In Your name, amen.

- "Like a roaring lion and a rushing bear Is a wicked ruler over a poor people." (Proverbs 28:15)

8. US jets resume strike missions against ISIS from key Turkey air base after power cut - Fox News

Turkey reopened the airspace around Incirlik Air Base on Sunday, allowing the U.S. to restart strike missions targeting the Islamic State terror group, as the alliance between the two nations showed signs of serious strain. Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed that power had been cut to the air base in southern Turkey, near the Syria border. "U.S. facilities at Incirlik are still operating on internal power sources, but we hope to restore commercial power soon. Base operations have not been affected," Cook said in a statement.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry spoke to his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavosoglu, for the second time in as many days following the failed coup, which left at least 265 people dead and 1,400 wounded.

Despite the support for Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government by the Obama administration during the coup, the country's labor minister suggested Washington was behind the uprising. Meanwhile, Erdogan himself bluntly requested the extradition of Pennsylvania-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Erdogan blamed for inspiring the coup, saying, "If we are strategic partners, then you should bring about our request." (Read more)

- Lord God, for one nation to "unplug" the power in another's military base is, in effect, an act of war. We thank You that the Obama administration did not react in haste to this threat, but instead has chosen to enter into a dialogue with President Erdogan, leading to the resolution of this critical matter. We pray Psalm 91 today over the Incirlik Air Base, and over all other military bases, and ships, in that region of the world. In Your name, amen.

- "A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel." (Proverbs 15:18)

9. Iran conducts 4th missile test since signing nuke deal - Times of Israel

Iran this week conducted its fourth ballistic missile test since it signed the nuclear deal with world powers last year, FOX News reported Friday, citing intelligence officials. The test failed.

Tehran's new ballistic missile, made using North Korean technology, exploded shortly after launch outside the city of Isfahan overnight Tuesday, the sources said. According to the report, the maximum range of the missile is 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers), more than twice the distance between Tehran and Jerusalem.

The launch came days ahead of the anniversary of the nuclear rapprochement deal signed on July 14 between the Islamic Republic and major world powers. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we thank You for another failed test and we pray Iran's ability to harm others would be cut back. We pray the people of Iran would experience salvation and be delivered from wicked men.

- "Arise, O Lord, do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged before You."
(Psalm 9:19)

10. List of Islamic Terror: 2016 - thereligionofpeace.com

During this time period, there were 1274 Islamic attacks in 50 countries, in which 11774 people were killed and 14303 injured. (TROP does not catch all attacks. Not all attacks are immediately posted). For details, go here.

- Father God, we grieve for each of these precious people. We pray the information on this website will inform people of the reality of Islam and move them to action. Give our leaders wisdom, as this problem can only be solved by You.

- 'Should evil come upon us, the sword, or judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You (for Your name is in this house) and cry to You in our distress, and You will hear and deliver us.' (2 Chronicles 20:9)

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump - who said in February he wanted to be a "neutral guy" in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - selected as his running mate a man who told The Jerusalem Post that the US should not be an "honest broker" in the Mideast, but rather let the world know the US is firmly on Israel's side.

Mike Pence, the Indiana Governor selected by Trump as his running mate over the weekend, expressed unstinting support for Israel during an interview with the Post on December 31, 2014.

"If the world knows nothing else, let it know this: America stands with Israel," Pence said, after addressing a town hall meeting organized by Republicans Abroad Israel. The dark side

America is under a great attack from the dark side. Police killings, terrorist attacks, racial unrest, corruption, finger-pointing, demagoguery are all part of the obvious problems. It seems like the floodgates of evil have been opened and the demons are having a field day. Some will call it judgment, others will say it's consequences. Irrespective of your perspective, it is obvious that there are deep-rooted issues that need to be addressed. They are issues that have come to a head after years of bad leadership-both spiritual and political. Until there are changes in leadership, these types of issues will continue. We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results. This is how the dark side arises.

The question is, "What can we do?" Many want me to tell them what to do. That is not my charge, nor my calling. But I can encourage you. In the deepest darkest night, the ships in the ocean look upon the horizon for signs of danger. If they see a lighthouse, they know they are approaching land and must exercise caution. That little bit of light shines through the darkness and gives direction, hope and safety. Those of us who proclaim Christianity have a particular calling in times like these. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Ephesians 5:8 says, "For you were once darkness, but now are you light in the Lord: walk as children of light."

Those who do not know the Lord cannot be held to the same standard as those of us who do. Yes, they need to obey the laws and understand that taking a life, or lives, is wrong. But in the absence of the light of the world, which is Jesus Christ, are their hearts changed beyond the law? Romans 10:13-15 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

You can make a difference. In fact, you are called by Christ to make a difference. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." America is experiencing a great darkness. Within you is the light of Christ. As Paul exhorts in Romans 13:10-12, "Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light." While many seek a political solution to the darkness, the best remedy for the dark side is the Light of Christ. You have it. Share it as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Update: Together 2016

Together 2016 Draws Thousands to National Mall; Heat Ends Event Early

Thousands came to Together 2016 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Saturday to celebrate that "Jesus changes everything." Emergency Services shut down the event early, however, after medical personnel became overwhelmed with the number of people--more than 400--who were overcome by extreme heat.

Nick Hall of PULSE, which planned the event, tweeted: "This event has never been about coming to the Mall. It's about sending a generation out from the mall to share Jesus."

Hall shared a video on Facebook saying that they were "completely exhausted" but "excited at all that God did."

As for shutting down early, he said they wanted to continue but "just felt like the right thing to do was to show respect and try to listen." He also pointed out that it wasn't a coincidence that the event ended early, encouraging attendees to be witnesses for Christ.

"There might be somebody that needs Jesus that you're supposed to go talk to. ... God is the one that leaves the 99 to go after the one," he said. (Charisma News) Read more.

The Persecuted Church

Iranian Christian Prisoner Physically Abused by Prison Guards

Ebrahim Firouzi, an Iranian Christian prisoner in Rajai Shahr Prison in Iran, suffered physical abuse at the hands of prison guards when he was forced to attend an appeal hearing, Middle East Concern reports.

Based in the U.K., Middle East Concern is an advocacy group for persecuted Christians in the Middle East and North Africa.

On August 21, 2013, Ebrahim was arrested with two friends during a raid by plain-clothed security officers. He had also been detained in 2011 and earlier in 2013 because of his Christian activities. The other two believers were released on bail after several months. (Read more)

Classic Hymns

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

RISE UP, O MEN OF GOD

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal." (Matthew 6:19)

Lyrics
Rise up, O men of God!
Have done with lesser things.
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings.

Rise up, O men of God!
The kingdom tarries long.
Bring in the day of brotherhood
And end the night of wrong.

Rise up, O men of God!
The church for you doth wait,
Her strength unequal to her task;
Rise up and make her great!

Lift high the cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod.
As brothers of the Son of Man,
Rise up, O men of God!

Signs and Wonders

BIG SUNSPOTS

Solar activity has been low for months. This could soon change. Two big sunspot groups are directly facing Earth, and one of them has an unstable magnetic field that poses a threat for M-class solar flares. Bill Hrudey photographed the active regions on July 16th from Cayman islands:

"Sunspots AR2567 & AR2565 are great imaging targets surrounded by many granules," says Hrudey.

What are granules? The sun is so hot, it literally boils. Granules are bumps on the boiling surface, much like the bumpy surface of water boiling on a hot stove. One difference: While the granules on your stove are only a few centimeters across, granules on the sun are as wide as Texas.

As if granules weren't big enough, the primary dark cores of these sunspots are twice as wide as the entire Earth. Great targets indeed. If you have a solar telescope, take a look. (SpaceWeather.com)

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea." (Luke 21:25)

(Nice, France)-[CBN News] When Pastor Rebecca Boulanger saw a Facebook post about a baby boy missing in the aftermath of the attack in Nice, she immediately launched a prayer campaign.

She was home with her husband when she saw a friend's post urging people to be on the lookout for a less than year old child who was separated from his parents in the panic of the terror attack. (Breaking Christian News)Read more here.
