Congressional Baseball Shooting

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Trump speaks on congressional baseball shooting: 'We are strongest when we are unified'
- Business Insider

In his White House statement, Trump praised Scalise as a "friend," a "patriot," and a "fighter," saying he would make a full recovery and that Washington, the country, and the world were praying for him.

Trump also praised the police officers who were wounded at the scene.

"Many lives would have been lost without the heroic actions of the two Capitol Police officers who took down the gunman despite sustaining gunshot wounds during a very, very brutal assault," Trump said. "Melania and I are grateful for their heroism and praying for the swift recovery of all victims."

He added that the police's "sacrifice makes democracy possible."

"Everyone on that field is a public servant: our courageous police, our congressional aides, who work so tirelessly behind the scenes with enormous devotion, and our dedicated members of Congress, who represent our people," Trump said. "We may have our differences, but we do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because, above all, they love our country.

"We are strongest when we are unified," he added.

- Father, thank You for these words of unity from President Trump. We pray our nation would be unified against violence to achieve political power. Expose those who are sympathetic to this approach so that they may be rendered powerless.

2. Hero cops kill white Illinois man, 66, who opened fire on Republican lawmakers
- Daily Mail

The gunman who opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice session this morning before being killed by cops has been identified as a Trump-hating Bernie Sanders supporter.

Sixty-six-year-old James T. Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois, was killed by Capitol Police after firing up to 100 rounds from an assault rifle at a baseball park in Alexandria, Virginia, leaving four injured including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.

Hodgkinson was a staunch Bernie Sanders supporter and campaigned for the left-wing senator to get the Democratic nomination for president last year. The union tradesman, threatened to 'destroy' the president and his administration on social media.

He was shot by two U.S. Capitol Police officers who were accompanying Scalise to Eugene Simpson Stadium Park for the scheduled baseball practice ahead of Thursday night's charity match.

The officers were both wounded as they used their pistols to shoot at Hodgkinson while the congressmen fled to a dugout.

Zachary Barth, a congressional staffer for Texas Rep. Roger Williams, was shot in the leg but is expected to recover. The two Capitol Police officers who were hurt are also expected to make a full recovery.

At a press conference at The White House at 11.30am, President Trump thanked the Capitol Police officers for their bravery and shared his well-wishes for the victims.

'Steve, I want you to know, you have the prayers not only of the entire city but of an entire nation and, frankly, the entire world.

3. Belleville suspect killed in congressional shootout belonged to anti-GOP groups
- Belleville News-Democrat

The shooter who was killed during gunfire at practice for a congressional baseball game Wednesday morning was from Belleville.

The shooter was James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, who belonged to a number of anti-Republican groups, including one called "Terminate the Republican Party."

President Donald Trump said Hodgkinson died during gunfire exchanged with congressional security workers.

Hodgkinson is a member of a number of anti-Republican groups on Facebook, including one called "Terminate the Republican Party."

- Father, we pray against the promulgation of lies and slander that incited this violence. We pray for James Hodgkinson's eternal soul, for his repentance and remorse towards You in his final moments.

- Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. (Romans 1:28-29)

4. Rand: 'Nobody Would Have Survived' Baseball Shooting Without Capitol Police, 'It Would Have Been a Massacre Without Them'
- Breitbart

On Wednesday's broadcast of CNN's "New Day," Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) credited Capitol Police officers on the scene for preventing the shooting at a Congressional baseball practice from turning into a "massacre."

Rand said, "I can tell you, that I think with absolute certainty, nobody would have survived without the Capitol Hill Police. They saved everybody's life. Incredibly brave and deserve everyone's praise, because, with this guy, who knows what his - how heavily armed he was, but nobody else had a weapon. So, he was just killing everyone - he would have -- They deserve our gratitude for saving - it would have been a massacre without them."

- Father, we pray for the Capitol Hill Police, Secret Service, and all the law enforcement surrounding our government officials. Give them wisdom to quickly identify and diffuse threats.

- Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. (Psalm 90:15)

5. Man who opened fired at congressional baseball practice dead; GOP Whip in stable condition
- Alexandria, VA News

The man who opened fire on members of Congress at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, in a "brutal assault" has died from his injuries, President Donald Trump said in a televised statement from the White House.

The shooting early Wednesday morning as Republican members of Congress practiced for an upcoming charity baseball game left five people injured, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, two Capitol Police officers, a congressional staffer and an executive with Tyson Foods.

Shortly after the news conference, law enforcement officials confirmed the identity of the shooter as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Illinois. Hodgkinson, who formerly ran a home-inspection business, had reportedly been living in Alexandria for a few months.

Scalise, the No. 3 House Republican, was shot in the hip and taken to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he is in stable condition, according to a statement released by his office. According to the statement, Scalise "was in good spirits" and spoke to his wife by phone before entering surgery.

- Thank You Father, that Scalise will recover from his injuries. We also pray for the family of the shooter, James Hodgkinson as they undoubtedly are trying to understand why he committed this violent action.

- Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. (Proverbs 3:29)

Focus on Israel

1. Liberman: Israel-Arab normalization first, then peace with Palestinians - Jerusalem Post

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman on Monday dismissed the possibility of a final Israeli-Palestinian peace deal that would end the conflict, just as US President Donald Trump has started to jump-start a peace process frozen for three years.

"The best-case scenario is to reach a long-term interim agreement," Liberman said, addressing the meeting of the Knesset caucus on "a diplomatic vision for Gaza."

Last week, Liberman told Channel 2 that Israel was closer than ever to a peace deal. On Monday, he honed his vision to explain that the best scenario would be for Israel to reach an agreement first with moderate Sunni Arab states, and only then to look toward a final deal with the Palestinians.

2. UN head backs Palestinian aid agency after Netanyahu - Times of Israel

The United Nations on Monday defended the UN agency that provides aid to Palestinians, after Israel's prime minister called for it to be shut down.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres "is concerned about recent public criticism of UNRWA and the integrity of its operations," spokesman Farhan Haq said, referring to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the Near East.

"He wishes to express his support for UNRWA and his admiration for the role it plays in delivering essential services and protecting the rights of millions of Palestine refugees across the Middle East."

3. Danon blasts 'one-sided' UNHRC report - Israel National News

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, on Tuesday blasted a report issued a day earlier by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which offered to "advise and support" efforts to create a "blacklist" database of companies operating in Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights, and eastern Jerusalem, so that the international community could boycott them.

In a statement, Danon referred to the report as "biased and one-sided" and added, "The report ignores the daily incitement to violence and the ongoing terror attacks planned and executed against Israel by the Palestinians."

Monday's report chastises both Israel and the Palestinian Authority for failing to bring perpetrators of alleged war crimes to justice

4. Israel considers closing Al Jazeera bureau in Jerusalem - World Israel News

In the midst of the diplomatic spat between Qatar and its Sunni neighbors in the region, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with relevant government offices to weigh shutting Al Jazeera's Jerusalem Bureau. This follows similar moves by Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Al Jazeera has long been accused of acting as the mouthpiece for the Qatari regime and showing bias against Israel. On Monday, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman attacked the news network, stating that, "It's truly an instrument of incitement and propaganda in the disgraceful style of Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union."

Closing Al Jazeera in Israel may prove problematic for the Israeli government and certainly more difficult than in either Saudi Arabia or Jordan.

5. Jewish, Christian, Muslim Leaders Feast Together for Interfaith Ramadan Break-Fast in Istanbul - Breaking Israel News

Last Thursday, a delegation of rabbis joined Adnan Oktar, a prominent Turkish Muslim cleric, at the Çırağan Palace Ballroom in Istanbul for his traditional iftar feast ending a day of fasting during Ramadan. More than 750 people from different religions and nationalities, including Jewish and Christian clergy and lay leaders, joined Oktar for the annual event hosted by Oktar's organization, the Movement for the Culture of Peace and Reconciliation.

The guest list included a number of illustrious attendees, several of them Israeli: the chief rabbi of the city of Shoham, Rabbi David Stav; retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Rabbinical Court of Israel Rabbi Abraham Sherman; Anglican priest Todd William Kissam from Maryland; and Co-Chairman of the Muslim-Jewish Friendship Organization in France, Imam Mohamed Azizi.

1. Jeff Sessions takes the gloves off - Washington Times

Attorney General Jeff Sessions came out swinging Tuesday, blasting his former colleagues in the U.S. Senate for their sham investigation into these loony accusations that somehow Mr. Sessions conspired with Russians to rig last year's election.

In Tuesday's testimony, Mr. Sessions excoriated - in a voice that appeared quavering with anger at times - those who are knowingly distorting plain and simple events into this vast web of conspiracy. "The suggestion that I participated in any collusion or that I was aware of any collusion with the Russian government to hurt this country, which I have served with honor for over 35 years, or to undermine the integrity of our democratic process, is an appalling and detestable lie," he said, looking sharply at the senators he worked alongside for the past two decades.

He also reminded the committee that - despite the unrelenting lies by Democrats and the media - the attorney general NEVER recused himself from the Trump-Russia investigation because of some phantom ties he had to Russia, but rather because he was part of Mr. Trump's presidential campaign. Defiantly adding this: "I recused myself from any investigation into the campaigns for president, but I did not recuse myself from defending my honor against scurrilous and false accusations."

Mr. Sessions even went so far as to gently ridicule his former colleagues for focusing on such petty, political and trivial nonsense at a time when far more pressing matters should be occupying their full attention. "The president wants to focus on the people of this country to ensure they are treated fairly and kept safe," he said. "The Trump agenda is to improve the lives of the American people. I know some have other agendas but that is his agenda and it is one I share." (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for these strong statements from Attorney General Sessions and pray these false allegations against the Trump Administration would come to an end.

- Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. (Proverbs 26:2)

2. Robert Mueller should recuse himself from Russia investigation - USA Today

Robert Mueller is a man of integrity with a long record of public service. In the abstract, he would be the right selection as special counsel in the Russia investigation. Under the specific circumstances of this case, however, with his longtime friend James Comey at the center of the inquiry, Mueller's the wrong choice. The public cannot be as sure as it needs to be of his objectivity.

This is true for reasons similar to those that prompted Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the same investigation. Sessions testified Tuesday that he felt he had no proper choice because he had a potential political conflict of interest, having been a campaign adviser to President Trump. Mueller should likewise step away because he has a potential personal conflict of interest, having been a longtime friend of a crucial witness, Comey, and Comey's key ally at the most important moment of his career. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Special Counsel Mueller would recuse himself and end this unnecessary investigation, especially since we now know the entire process was manipulated by James Comey's leaks to the press.

- If we hadn't wasted all this time, we could have gone and returned twice by now. (Genesis 43:10)

3. Are We Nearing Civil War? - CNS News

President Trump may be chief of state, head of government and commander in chief, but his administration is shot through with disloyalists plotting to bring him down.

We are approaching something of a civil war where the capital city seeks the overthrow of the sovereign and its own restoration. Thus far, it is a nonviolent struggle, though street clashes between pro- and anti-Trump forces are increasingly marked by fistfights and brawls. Police are having difficulty keeping people apart. A few have been arrested carrying concealed weapons.

That the objective of this city is to bring Trump down via a deep state-media coup is no secret. Few deny it. (Read more)

- O Father, we pray against the Civil War being pushed by the far left. We see the result today, a shooting by a man who was deceived by all the lies and acted upon them. We pray You would "throw cold water" on the plans of the enemy to stir up strife and spread lies.

- They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason. (Psalm 109:3)

4. Sessions Cleans House, Ends Diversion of Settlements to Left-Wing Activists - CNS News

On June 5, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions prohibited Justice Department lawyers from diverting legal settlement funds to special interest groups outside the government that were neither victims of any wrongdoing, nor parties to such lawsuits. As legal commentator Walter Olson notes, "This is terrific news and a major step forward in [respecting] the constitutional separation of powers."

Sessions' memo to U.S. Attorneys banned a practice frequently used by Obama administration officials to circumvent the constitutionally-mandated appropriations process and dole out money to their political allies. Beneficiaries have also included "advocacy groups," "legal aid programs, law schools, and an assortment of other causes that legislatures and their appropriations committees have shown no interest in funding." (Read more)

- Thank You, Holy Father, for the end of this unconstitutional policy. We pray for continued removal of funding to every group that undermines our nation.

- When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan. (Proverbs 29:2)

5. Pence Tells Christians Trump Is 'Fighting Hard' for Them - Christian Post

ice President Mike Pence is reiterating the support of President Donald Trump for the causes dear to Christian conservatives, saying in a speech that the 45th president will "never stop fighting" for them.

Gathered before hundreds at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's "Road to Majority" conference in Washington, D.C. Saturday evening, the vice president mentioned that President Trump carried states in the 2016 election that had not been won by a Republican in a generation, having turned the Democrats' "blue wall red." And Christian conservatives were an indispensable part of his electoral victory in those states and elsewhere, he noted.

Trump, Pence said, will "never stop fighting for the values and ideals that make this nation great." And "[Trump] is fighting hard for all of you," he maintained, highlighting the president's conservative cabinet picks like Ben Carson as HUD Secretary, his cutting of bureaucratic red tape and regulations, and his recent withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords. (Read more)

- Father, thank You for these remarkable words of support by Vice-President Pence. We are so grateful for Your deliverance and providence to allow our nation another chance to fulfill our destiny.

- My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power. (Psalm 89:24)

6. While No One Was Looking, Congress Took A Huge Step Toward Fixing The Economy - IBD

Deregulation: Former FBI director James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee was the fixation of Washington on Thursday. But the big story was on the House side of Congress, which passed a bill to repeal the ruinous Dodd-Frank banking law. The Financial Choice Act, approved in the House by a 233-to-186 vote (no Democrats voted for the bill), has generated almost zero attention. But it has the potential to be the most economically beneficial legislation Congress will consider this year. Dodd-Frank's 22,000 pages of regulations, which cost $36 billion to comply with in the first six years, has choked competition in the banking industry, made banking more expensive, harmed economic growth and, to top it off, failed to make the banking system safer or end "too-big-to-fail." The House Financial Choice Act would strip the worst elements of Dodd-Frank and rein in the CFPB. (You can read a summary of the bill here.) The result will be a healthier financial sector and faster economic growth. Unfortunately, Democrats in the Senate are determined to stop this bill in its tracks. What's likely to emerge there will be a Dodd-Frank reform bill that is tepid enough to attract sufficient Democrats to overcome a filibuster. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this complete bill will pass the Senate quickly to improve competition in our banking system and relieve the regulatory burden from our economy.

- Remove the impurities from silver, and the sterling will be ready for the silversmith. (Proverbs 25:4)

Your right to property remains in jeopardy

Americans are concerned about their right to privacy as government spying on citizens and intrusion into our private lives has increased. But it didn't happen overnight. On April 25, 2000, President Bill Clinton signed into law Public Law 106-185, setting up the framework for property seizure as a political tool and also to fund over zealous police forces. Section C parts 2 and 3 says the government can use evidence from a "complaint" to justify seizing the property upon "theory" that it was involved in a criminal offense. Section d part 1 says that the property owner has the burden of proof of innocence in court to retrieve his property. In 2011 alone, the White House used this statute to seized a record $1.8 billion in property.

On June 6, 2013 the UK Guardian interviewed NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowdon who had this to say: "The government has granted itself power it is not entitled to. There is no public oversight. The result is people like myself have the latitude to go further than they are allowed to...Even if you're not doing anything wrong, you're being watched and recorded. ...it's getting to the point where you don't have to have done anything wrong, you simply have to eventually fall under suspicion from somebody, even by a wrong call, and then they can use this system to go back in time and scrutinize every decision you've ever made, every friend you've ever discussed something with, and attack you on that basis, to sort of derive suspicion from an innocent life and paint anyone in the context of a wrong doer."

The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution states: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Government has been taking great liberty to suppress your liberty. Probable cause must be supported by oath, affirmation and particular description and inscribed by warrant. Where are your Constitutional rights if government can record your every movement and seize your property from a mere complaint or theory? This must change. Yet, our elected leaders insist on chasing false narratives to stall badly needed changes to protect our rights.

Snowdon went on to say: "The great fear that I have regarding the outcome for America of these disclosures is that nothing will change. [People] won't be willing to take the risks necessary to stand up and fight to change things... And in the months ahead, the years ahead, it's only going to get worse. [The NSA will] say that... because of the crisis, the dangers that we face in the world, some new and unpredicted threat, we need more authority, we need more power, and there will be nothing the people can do at that point to oppose it. And it will be turnkey tyranny." Galatians 5:1 says, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." In my opinion, it is not in the best interest of spreading the gospel or of overcoming evil to live under tyranny.

Hypocrisy at the highest

Many Americans are watching with amazement at the circus taking place in our nation's capital trying to derail, delegitimize the presidency and obstruct government. It's happening under the guise of investigating whether President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the US election. Even Democratic leaders say that there is no evidence, but they pursue the obstruction of the Trump agenda through the morass they are creating with their media partners and communist actors. Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions took center ring and testified. Bottom line: Sessions said that the mere suggestion of collusion with the Russians to undermine America "is an appalling and detestable lie."

It wasn't long ago when another Attorney General was embroiled in a controversy that was far worse than what Sessions was accused. In fact, this Attorney General has participated in a gun running scheme that ended up getting border agents killed. Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about Fast and Furious, his scheme to sell guns to Mexican drug cartels so the government could track their movement. The result was the deaths of at least two US border agents. Holder also refused to enforce laws such as the Defense of Marriage Act and voter rights laws when the New Black Panthers terrorist group refused to allow whites to vote in Philadelphia. He also was caught spying on journalists.

Pay no mind because Congress didn't do a thing about it. Yet a Republican-controlled Congress is allowing a minority-led coup attempt by the Democratic Party to advance through Congressional hearings about a Russian influence scheme on American elections where there is no evidence to support even the weakest claims. The Democratic Party, namely its most recent candidate for President, has ties with Russia that resulted in uranium sales to Russia in return for donations of at least $20 million dollars to the Clinton Foundation-all part of a very well documented influence peddling scheme orchestrated by Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State. Nothing to see here. Media moves on.

This is amazing. It is hypocrisy at the highest. Congress overlooks documented evidence of governmental organized crime with Russian purchases of uranium, sales of weapons to Mexican drug cartels, the backing of al Qaeda in Libya during the Benghazi crisis, yet allows a minority party to foment a three-ring circus that undermines the office of the President. Republicans should be ashamed for their lack of courage and backbone. You see, both parties are at fault. They should do what they are elected to do rather than trying to tear one another down. As Jesus said in Matthew 12:25. "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." We, the people, need to unify against this hypocrisy and highway to tyranny.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns:

STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS

"Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:11-12)

Lyrics

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross; Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss. From victory unto victory His army shall He lead, Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the solemn watchword hear; If while ye sleep He suffers, away with shame and fear; Where'er ye meet with evil, within you or without, Charge for the God of battles, and put the foe to rout.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey; Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day. Ye that are brave now serve Him against unnumbered foes; Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in His strength alone; The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own. Put on the Gospel armor, each piece put on with prayer; Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, each soldier to his post, Close up the broken column, and shout through all the host: Make good the loss so heavy, in those that still remain, And prove to all around you that death itself is gain.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long; This day the noise of battle, the next the victor's song. To those who vanquish evil a crown of life shall be; They with the King of Glory shall reign eternally.

About the hymn:

'Stand Up for Jesus' was the dying message of the Reverend Dudley A. Tyng to the Young Men's Christian Association . . . The Sabbath before his death he preached in the immense edifice known as Jaynes' Hall, one of the most successful sermons of modern times. The following Wednesday, leaving his study for a moment, he went to the barn floor, where a mule was at work on a horse-power, shelling corn. Patting him on the neck, the sleeve of his silk study gown caught in the cogs of the wheel, and his arm was torn out the roots! His death occurred in a few hours. . . 1,600-Year-Old Paintings of Christ Discovered in Roman Catacombs

The ancient catacombs of St. Domitilla sprawl for more than 10 miles (17 kilometers) in a labyrinth of tunnels beneath Rome and contain numerous tombs, many belonging to the city's elite.

Now, using a technique called laser cleaning, in which lasers are used to remove centuries of grime, researchers have uncovered elaborate frescoes in two sections of the catacombs: the burial chamber used by a grain purchaser (sometimes referred to in scholarly literature as a baker) and the "introductio," which shows a "a personal presentation of the dead to Christ," said Barbara Mazzei, an archaeologist with the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology, the organization that unveiled the newly visible frescoes at the end of May.

"Only the wealthiest families could afford a burial chamber," Mazzei told Live Science in an email. The catacombs date back about 1,600 years and are considered to be among the oldest Christian cemeteries.

. . . A bucolic scene with a shepherd and another with Christ on a throne between two groups of apostles were also revealed in the catacombs. "The other scenes are drawn from the Old and New Testament," Mazzei said.

Near the grain purchaser's fresco, in another section of the Roman catacombs, the cleaning revealed details of a fresco showing Christ seated on a throne, with his right arm raised before two deceased individuals and their patron saints, who are presumably "the Princes of the apostles Peter and Paul, to be admitted in the Kingdom of Heaven," Mazzei said. "The subject is quite rare in the repertoire of the catacomb paintings."

Mazzei said there are many more frescoes that need to be cleaned in the area near the grain purchaser's tomb and in other parts of the sprawling ancient catacombs beneath Rome. (Live Science) Read more

The Good News Corner

Harvest America: Greg Laurie Clarifies Views on God;

Over 3,000 Make Decisions for Christ

Pastor Greg Laurie believes that so many people have wrong ideas about who God is. The evangelist set the record straight during the annual Harvest America event Sunday night.

In front of nearly 40,000 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, Laurie spoke about the story of the prodigal son and how it is a reflection of who God really is - a loving Father - contrary to the mental picture so many have of Him.

People have a lot of weird ideas about God, particularly that Jesus is watching, ready to say "sic 'em" like one would to a dog. "Nothing could be further from the truth," Laurie said at the evangelistic event that has drawn tens of thousands of attendees as well as viewers online every year.

Also clarifying views on Heaven and Hell, the California evangelist said you can be a bad person and go to Heaven. Heaven is not for good people. "It is for forgiven people," he emphasized.

"God does not grade on a curve," he said, noting that one sin is enough to keep you out of Heaven.

At the same time, good people can go to Hell, he added.

But he stressed that "the last thing that God wants is for any man or woman, created in His image to spend eternity in Hell" because "Hell was not made for people but for the devil and his angels."

Laurie recounted at the event that he was not raised in the church. He hailed from a dysfunctional home; his mother was a "raging alcoholic" who got married seven times. He never knew his biological father. As a teenager he began getting into trouble at school, he experimented with drugs like LSD, and at one he was point smoking weed every day.

Yet the Jesus movement was underway when he was a youth and at age 17 he heard an evangelist named Lonnie say that with Jesus you could either be for Him or against Him.

Laurie knew he was not for Him and he did not want to be against Him in sin any longer so he gave his life to the Lord.

Although sin is fun at the beginning, it "promises freedom but it brings slavery," Laurie said. "It promises success but it brings failure. It promises life but it brings death."

Sin, he noted, fills the voids that only God can. . .

"You just admit you need God," he said. "You need to come to God and He'll clean your life up." (Christian Post) Read more.
