The Health Care Vote

For all headlines below, please offer the prayer that our Lord Jesus Christ taught His disciples to say (in part):

"Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

1. President Trump Meets With Families Adversely Affected by Obamacare - White House

On Monday, President Donald J. Trump welcomed four families adversely affected by Obamacare to the White House for a listening session. These victims of Obamacare shared stories of skyrocketing premiums, denied access, restrictions, and low reimbursement rates due to Obamacare's failing infrastructure.

The President then gave remarks, reaffirming his mission to find a healthcare solution that will better serve the American people.

"To every member of the Senate, I say this: The American people have waited long enough. There's been enough talk and no action. Now is the time for action. We are here to solve problems for the people. Obamacare has broken our healthcare system -- it's broken, it's collapsing, it's gone. And now it is up to us to get great healthcare for the American people. We must repeal and replace Obamacare now," the President Trump stated. (Read more)

2. Trump: 'Obamacare is Death' - CNSNews.com

On Monday afternoon, President Donald J. Trump delivered a speech on health care from the White House, where he implored Republicans to vote for the Senate's health care bill and he called Obamacare "death" and "disastrous."

"The Senate bill protects coverage for preexisting conditions," said President Trump. "And you don't hear this from the Democrats; they like to tell you just the opposite and they didn't even know the bill."

"They run out, they say death, death, death," he continued. "Well, Obamacare is death. That's the one that's death. And besides that, it's failing, so you won't have it anyway."

The president assigned blame for the failure of the Republicans' most recent efforts on health care to the Democrats, calling them "obstructionists" who are providing "zero help" in the effort to pass health insurance reforms through Congress.

He urged Democratic senators to work with Republicans in passing a bill, saying, "For Democrats, this vote is a chance to make up for the terrible harm they have inflicted on Americans like those who are with us today.(Read more)

3. Senate May Vote This Week on Health Care Bill, But Which One? - CNSNews.com

The Senate is voting this week on a motion to proceed to debate on a health care bill -- but which one? Appearing on CBS's "Face the Nation," Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she doesn't know:

Well, it's a good question about what's going to be happening next week. It appears that we will have a vote on Tuesday, but we don't know whether we're going to be voting on the House bill, the first version of the Senate bill, the second version of the Senate bill, a new version of the Senate bill, or a 2015 bill that would have repealed the Affordable Care Act now and then said that somehow we'll figure out a replacement over the next two years.

"It's voting to open debate," Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) told "Fox News Sunday. "It's a procedural vote," he explained -- a vote to proceed to debate on the bill passed by the House of Representatives, which opens the House bill to all amendments - including an amendment to substitute one of the Senate bills for the House bill. 4. 112,000,000: Medicaid Enrollees Set to Climb 40,000,000 Under Obamacare - CNSNews.com

Under current law-including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare)-there will be 112,000,000 people who enroll in Medicaid at some time during fiscal 2027, according to the latest baseline estimate published by the Congressional Budget Office.

That would be an increase of 40,000,000 from fiscal 2013, the last year before Obamacare's expansion of the Medicaid program went into effect. (Read more)

5. John McCain To Return To Senate Tuesday - The Daily Caller

Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was diagnosed with brain cancer last week, will return to the Senate Tuesday just ahead of the critical health care vote.

McCain could be an important vote on whether or not the Senate will begin debating health care legislation. The GOP's drafted health bill has been unable to garner enough support to pass and a clean repeal of Obamacare seems to be off the table as well.

McCain promised that he would be returning to the Senate after his diagnosis, but most didn't expect it to be so soon and certainly not in time for him to be a player in the health care debate. (Read more)

6. Trump Takes Aim At Senate Republicans - The Daily Caller

President Donald Trump took aim at Senate Republicans in a health care speech Monday in which he said Americans have heard "enough talk," and witnessed "no action."

The Senate is expected vote as early as Tuesday on a measure to debate a House bill to repeal-and-replace Obamacare.

"For Senate Republicans this is their chance to keep their promise. Over and over again, they said 'repeal and replace, repeal and replace.' But they can now keep their promise to the American people to provide emergency relief to those in desperate need of help and to improve health care for all Americans. To every member of the Senate I say this: the American people have waited long enough, there's been enough talk and no action. Now is the time for action." (Read more)

7. GOP Faces Last Chance To Repeal Obamacare - The Daily Caller

Senate leadership is expected to push a vote on health care reform as early as Tuesday, but senators remain unsure if they will be voting to repeal and replace, or simply repeal, Obamacare.

The confusion stems from mixed messaging coming from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Donald Trump.

After four Republican senators came out against the Senate bill to largely repeal and replace Obamacare-the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA)-late in the evening on July 17, McConnell and Trump called for a full, clean repeal of the current system before instituting a replacement.

The president tweeted that Republicans should repeal Obamacare before coming up with a replacement legislation, a prospect that the CBO projected would leave 27 million Americans without health coverage in 2020. (Read more)

1. Arab League to hold urgent meeting over Jerusalem tensions - Times of Israel

The Arab League will hold an urgent meeting on Thursday to discuss the escalating crisis surrounding Jerusalem's Temple Mount, amid widespread unrest in the Israeli capital and the West Bank.

The meeting was called by Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, who on Sunday discussed the tensions with his Norwegian, French, German and Swedish counterparts. In a series of tweets, Safadi said Jordan was working to "protect [and] restore calm" to the holy site in Jerusalem.

2. Radical cleric calls for 'Islamic war' for Jerusalem - Israel National News

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars and a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood, said on Sunday that the confrontation with Israel on the Temple Mount should be defined as a religious campaign.

"It must be clearly stated that this is an Islamic campaign, since Al-Quds is not only a Palestinian issue or an Arab one. Al-Quds is the interest of the Islamic nation from the west to the east," Qaradawi wrote on Twitter.

Qaradawi is considered the supreme religious authority of the Sunni Muslim world and the spiritual leader of both the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. During the period of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, Qaradawi issued a fatwa permitting suicide attacks against Israel.

As tensions rise around the Temple Mount, Israel looks for ways to peacefully resolve the crisis.

Israel is seeking various ways to deescalate the tensions surrounding the Temple Mount, which have generated Palestinian violence and are threatening to devolve into a Muslim holy war against Israel.

The Security Cabinet convened late into Sunday night, but has reached no decision about the new security measures Palestinians blame for the crisis. The group of ministers were briefed on the latest developments, including the attack on a security guard at Israel's embassy in Jordan.

In a statement, the Cabinet said it "accepted the recommendation of all of the security bodies to incorporate security measures based on advanced technologies ("smart checks") and other measures instead of metal detectors in order to ensure the security of visitors and worshippers in the Old City and on the Temple Mount."

Until the implementation of the plan, the Israel Police will reinforce its units and carry out additional actions as necessary in order to ensure the security of visitors on the Mount.

5. Palestinian stabs Arab-Israeli near Tel Aviv in apparent terror attack - Times of Israel

An Israeli Arab man was stabbed by a Palestinian assailant in Tel Aviv suburb Petah Tikva late Monday morning, in what police said was a terror attack and case of mistaken identity.

Police said the victim, a 32-year-old Egged bus driver, was attacked at a shwarma stand in the city center and was stabbed in the neck. He was rushed to hospital with moderate-to-severe injuries.

The assailant then tried to escape on foot, but was wrestled to the ground by civilian bystanders and handed over to police. Some reports said a driver who was passing by helped stop the attacker by ramming him with his car as he tried to escape. Others said a local pizzeria worker helped subdue him by hitting him with a wooden pizza tray.

Abba, we see the tension in Israel rising. We ask You to release Angelic armies to protect Israel and fight in battle for Your children. We cry out for protection of innocent lives. We ask You, Father, to make Your presence known to every person there. We pray that through all the tragedy and tension, that every single person would have their hearts and eyes opened to You. Lord, we pray that they would cry out for salvation. They would cry out for Messiah. Father, help them turn from their wicked ways and come back to You. We ask You to make any plans made in darkness come to light and be stopped. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem. In the name of Yeshua, amen.

The Daily Brief

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Trump: Chuck Schumer was right, Democrats should blame themselves, not Russia - Washington Examiner

President Trump stole a line from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a tweet Monday, after Schumer said Democrats' failure to win the 2016 election was their own fault.

"After 1 year of investigation with Zero evidence being found, Chuck Schumer just stated that 'Democrats should blame ourselves, not Russia,'" Trump wrote Monday morning.

Schumer recently said, "When you lose to somebody who has 40 percent popularity, you don't blame other things - [James] Comey, Russia - you blame yourself ... So what did we do wrong? People didn't know what we stood for, just that we were against Trump. And still believe that."

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said in May that former FBI Director James Comey and WikiLeaks were to blame for her loss to Trump. (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that the attacks and accusations stop. We pray that all these admissions by top Democrats be heard by Americans and understood so that the lies and misinformation can be quelled.

- "This far and no further, and here shall your proud waves be stopped!" (Job 38:11)

2. White House Indicates Trump Would Sign New Sanctions Bill - Newsmax

The White House indicated Sunday President Donald Trump would sign a sweeping Russia sanctions measure, which the House could take up this week, that requires him to get Congress' permission before lifting or easing the economic penalties against Moscow.

Lawmakers are scheduled to consider the sanctions package as early as Tuesday, and the bill could be sent to Trump before Congress breaks for the August recess. The legislation is aimed at punishing Moscow for meddling in the presidential election and its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the newly appointed White House press secretary, said the administration is supportive of being tough on Russia and "particularly putting these sanctions in place." (Read more)

- Lord, as we see changes coming to the Russian sanctions, we ask that Your Spirit move in that nation to bring these people into right relationship with You.

- "A man is not established by wickedness." (Proverbs 12:3a)

3. Trump Throws Wrench in U.N. Plan to "Replace" U.S. Population - WND

In the last year of his presidency, Barack Obama and his administration worked tirelessly with the United Nations to expand the definition of "refugee" to include economic migrants and drastically increase the numbers being resettled in the United States. And he found a willing partner in the Republican-controlled Congress, which funded not only more refugees but provisions for record numbers of unaccompanied minor children, so-called UACs, showing up at the border from Central America.

In the fall of 2016 Obama hosted the U.N. Leaders' Summit on Refugees in New York, where he and other world leaders used rhetoric strikingly similar to the concept of "replacement migration," a U.N. plot to replace the population of a given country with migrants and "refugees" from the developing world. (Read more)

- Lord we thank You that we have a President who sees the insidious plan and has moved to stop it.

- "And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil." (Isaiah 10:27)

4. Charlie Gard parents end legal fight for 'beautiful' baby - BBC

The parents of terminally ill baby Charlie Gard have ended their legal challenge to take him to the US for experimental treatment.

A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court "time had run out" for the baby. Mr Gard said it meant his "sweet, gorgeous, innocent little boy" will not reach his first birthday on 4 August. "To let our beautiful little Charlie go" is "the hardest thing we'll ever have to do", his mother said.

Charlie's parents said they made the decision because a US doctor had told them it was now too late to give Charlie nucleoside therapy. (Read more)

- Father we are saddened by this report, and pray for these parents, and especially for this child who never really had a chance at life. Have mercy on their hearts, and upon the soul of this child.

- "Assuredly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." (Mark 10:15)

5. Preemptive Strike: Kushner scoops Senate with 'did not collude' statement - Fox News

Jared Kushner got out ahead of the story before sunrise. Knowing there would be saturation coverage of his closed-door Senate testimony in the Russia investigation, the president's son-in-law today gave the press an 11-page statement with this bottom-line declaration: "I did not collude."

Since the hearing was conducted in secret, Kushner had to know he would be vulnerable to selective leaks. So the senior White House official helped frame the media narrative, with some stories on his prepared testimony posting as early as 6 a.m.

His team also wanted to be transparent with the public, so they were playing to a broader audience than just the Intelligence Committee members. (Read more)

- Father, the continuing attacks on the President's family are hypocritical at best, since Democrats have done even worse. We thank You that You are in control, that justice is always Your way.

- "For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them." (Isaiah 61:8)

6. Mueller probe: Meet the lawyers who gave $$ to Hillary, now investigating team Trump - Fox News

President Trump's tough criticism of Special Counsel Robert Mueller signals a renewed effort to challenge his investigators' credibility over their track record of pro-Democratic political donations and other associations. There is no shortage of examples to fuel the president's case.

Of the 15 attorneys currently on staff for Mueller, at least seven have donated to Democratic candidates and campaigns, including Trump's 2016 rival Hillary Clinton. The rest have not made political donations, according to federal records; and none of the attorneys on Mueller's roster donated money to Trump.

"This is just a witch hunt-it's all a hoax," White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway told "Fox & Friends" last week after Trump criticized Mueller in a New York Times interview. "People should know what folks' past motivations, and their political motivations are-these weren't minor donations, these were significant donations by members of that team." (Read more)

- Father this sounds like a set up- so we ask that only Your will be accomplished that You will block any actions that are not of Your perfect will.

- . . . " if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

7. WH Spokesperson: 'Over 60 Leaks in the First Six Months' of Trump Admin. from the Intel Community - CNSNews.com

Incoming White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told ABC's "This Week" Sunday that there have been more than 60 leaks in the first six months of the Trump administration from the intelligence community - far more than other administrations.

"We've had over 60 leaks in the first six months from the intelligence community when the other administrations previous to us were in the single digits after the entire time. This is a real problem. There are people are putting our national security at risk, and I think that is one of the most undertold stories so far in the first six months of this administration," Sanders said.

She said there's "a ton of focus" on what she calls "Russia fever, which is a total made-up story about the president" to undermine the legitimacy of his election victory.

"And we need to focus on these leaks. This is the only illegal thing that has taken place, and it's a real serious problem," Sanders said. (Read more)

- Father, we do thank You for placing Sarah Huckabee Sanders behind the podium to serve as this president's press secretary. We ask that You keep her alert, on task, and full of energy for the job she has been given to do. In Your name, amen.

- "The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace."'

(Numbers 6:24-26)

8. 'If the Leaks Don't Stop, I'm Going to Pare Down the Staff' - CNSNews.com

Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House communications director, made the rounds of the Sunday talk shows, telling "Fox News Sunday" one of the first things he wants to do is "get the leaks stopped."

"We've got to get the leaks stopped, Chris," Scaramucci told host Chris Wallace. "I know that it's Washington, so it's going to be impossible to stop all of them, but I think what's going on right now is a high level of unprofessionalism and it's not serving the president."

Scaramucci said, if the leaks don't stop - "I am a businessperson, and so I will take dramatic action to stop those leaks." "What kind of drastic action?" Wallace asked Scaramucci.

I'm not going to be able to stop the leaks in the intergovernmental agencies and all that other stuff, that's a whole different ball of wax. But something is going on inside the White House that the president does not like and we're going to fix it. (Read more)

- Lord God, in addition to our new Press Secretary, we offer up a chorus of praise that Donald Trump has now appointed Steve Scaramucci as his Communications Director. Father, it looks like we now have a new sheriff in town, who is truly ready to take action to stop these leaks. We offer our support in prayer to these efforts, in Your name, amen.

- "For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light." (Mark 4:22)

9. Jared Kushner: Trump 'Had a Better Message and Ran a Smarter Campaign, and That Is Why He Won' - CNSNews.com

On the heels of his closed-door appearance at the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday, Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, told reporters at the White House that he did not collude with Russia and knew of no one in the campaign who did. He said reason Trump won the presidency was because he had a better message and campaign than Hillary Clinton.

Kushner also said he had no improper contacts with Russia and did not rely on Russian funds for his businesses. "Let me be very clear: I did not collude with Russia, nor do I know of anyone else in the campaign who did so. I had no improper contacts. I have not relied on Russian funds for my businesses, and I have been fully transparent in providing all requested information," Kushner said.

"Donald Trump had a better message and ran a smarter campaign, and that is why he won. Suggesting otherwise ridicules those who voted for him," he said. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank you for the truth that sets others free, in Your Name, amen.

- "For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth."

10. Texas truck driver charged in deaths of 10 people - CNN/AP

The driver of a sweltering truck in San Antonio has been charged with transporting immigrants in the U.S. illegally resulting in the deaths of 10 people, reports The Associated Press. A 10th person discovered in a sweltering tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas, has died, the US attorney for the Western District of Texas said Monday.

Eight people were found dead inside the semi truck early Sunday morning. Since then, two people who were hospitalized have died.

The driver of a tractor-trailer turned deadly transporter for undocumented migrants is due to face criminal charges in a Texas court Monday in what police are calling a human trafficking crime.

Authorities called to the San Antonio Walmart lot Sunday morning where the trailer was parked found eight bodies and 30 undocumented immigrants severely injured from overheating inside. A ninth person later died in hospital, ICE officials said. Thirty-nine people were recovered from the trailer, including one person who was found in a nearby wooded area. (Read more)

- Lord we ask that You reveal more and more human trafficking, allowing Your Spirit to move with power over the hearts of not only the people behind it, but those who are seeking to come here illegally. We ask for Your Spirit to move in the hearts of those who were victims of this horrific situation and bring Your peace.

- "Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy." (Psalm 126:5)

11. Two killed in shooting at Israeli embassy in Jordan - Guardian UK

An Israeli embassy security guard shot dead a Jordanian man who attacked him with a screwdriver at Israel's embassy compound in Amman on Sunday night, police said. A second Jordanian man also died in the incident.

Israel is refusing to allow Jordanian authorities to question the security guard under the Vienna convention, claiming diplomatic immunity, and all embassy employees are currently confined to the compound, according to Israeli media. Jordan is reportedly refusing to allow the guard to leave the country.

Violence against Israelis is rare in Jordan, but tensions have escalated between the two countries since Israel installed metal detectors at entry points to al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem after two Israeli policemen were shot dead by three Arab-Israeli gunmen on 14 July near the site. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for this Security official, that You would protect him from the wrath of the Muslims. We ask that You find a way to stop the violence and also pray for the preservation of Israel's security.

- "Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him." (Psalm 140:11b)

The divisive face of politics

A young man who I once hired as a reporter told me a story about his childhood. He said that his dad would treat him and his brother before bedtime. Sometimes his dad would make it a competition-something like whoever gets their clothes off, pajamas on and in bed first would get ice cream instead of a lesser treat. These competitions, he said, would get fierce. But would often reduce to one brother trying to prevent the other brother from putting his pajamas on or getting into bed. That's the sorry state of politics here in America. Brothers are fighting brothers (or for those who insist on being politically correct, Brothers and Sisters) just to obstruct the other's ability to do what they were elected to do.

We have been living this divisive nightmare since before the election, but the politics of obstruction is waxing worse and worse. Instead of working together for the good of the people who elected them, politicians are doing everything they can to prevent one another from doing their business. Progressive (Communist) Caucus member Maxine Waters (D-CA) is one example. In a closed to the media Democratic fundraiser in New Hampshire, Waters reportedly said, "Mr. President, we are organizing. And we are organizing to bring you down, and bring your agenda down." She also reportedly said that President Donald Trump was "deplorable," a "liar," "dishonest," and a "bully" who she wants to see impeached.

Waters and countless others like her are so committed to bringing down the President that they have abandoned any appearance of working collaboratively to solve the problems of the nation. A July 18 ABC News-Washington Post poll indicated that 52% of registered voters believe the only thing the Democratic Party stands for is to oppose Trump. A Pew Research Center poll released July 20 found that 35% of Democrats say that knowing a friend backed Trump during the election would strain their friendship and 68% of Democrats feel more negatively about talking politics with people who back Trump. Only 13% of Republicans felt that knowing a friend supported Hillary Clinton would strain their friendship.

These statistics are not surprising given the acerbic and vulgar nature of Democratic Party attackers and the media that reports every attack and portrays Trump in a negative light. Say something enough and it begins to stick. This is dangerous to our society. As Jesus said in Matthew 12:25, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." Politics and politicians are not the answer to our challenges. They are divisive and lack civility. And when sides oppose each other so vehemently, there can be no unity. The condition of our society must change otherwise over time we will cease to exist. Those with the light of Christ have the answer. In the truth of Christ and in the length, depth and breadth of that truth is found true freedom. We need to speak light and truth in love.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns:

LORD, WHAT A CHANGE WITHIN US

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee." (Psalm 55:22)

Lyrics
Lord, what a change within us one short hour
Spent in Thy presence will prevail to make;
What heavy burdens from our bosoms take,
What parchèd fields refresh as with a shower!

We kneel, and all around us seems to lower;
We rise, and all, the distant and the near,
Stands forth in sunny outline, brave and clear;
We kneel, how weak; we rise, how full of power.

Why should we ever weak or heartless be,
Why are we ever overborne with care,
Anxious or troubled, when with us is prayer,
And joy, and strength, and courage are with Thee?

Mammoth Lakes area hit by swarm of hundreds of tiny earthquakes

Hundreds of tiny earthquakes have hit the Mammoth Lakes area in California's Eastern Sierra in recent days, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Most of the quakes were less than magnitude 1.0 - and it's likely that none were felt by residents.

There were several dozen quakes in just the last 24 hours, the strongest being 2.3 magnitude. More quakes continued into Sunday.

Earthquake swarms are not uncommon in the region.

Christians Rising in Venezuela: God Says,

"I Will Raise You Up and Bless You!"

(Venezuela) - [CBN News] Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is insisting he will proceed with plans to hold an assembly to rewrite the country's constitution.

His intransigence comes despite last weekend's vote where 98 percent of more than seven million voters rejected making constitutional changes.

The country's evangelical Christians are speaking out, asking God to restore unity and prosperity to the nation.

Opposition parties say a constitutional assembly is just an attempt by the socialist president to impose a dictatorship in Venezuela.

Many are at a breaking point after suffering for months from food shortages and heavy-handed government control.

The crisis has motivated Venezuela's churches to action. Leading up to the vote, public plazas around the nation echoed with the prayers of Christians.
