Updates: North Korea

Updates: North Korea

1. Less than half of the US bomber fleet is ready to 'fight tonight' - Military Times

Less than half of the bombers President Donald Trump would rely upon to be "locked and loaded" against North Korea could launch today if needed, according to the latest Air Force figures available. That's not a surprise to the bomb squadrons who have seen firsthand the combined effects of aircraft age, the demand of 15 years of air war operations and reduced budgets.

But the numbers can be stark. Of the nation's 75 conventional and nuclear B-52s, only about 33 are ready to fly at any given time, according to Air Force statistics. Of the 62 conventional B-1s, only about 25 are ready. With the 20 nuclear B-2 stealth bombers, the number drops further. Seven or eight bombers are available, according to the Air Force.

"On a nominal basis you don't have more than single digits of B-2s available to do anything," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dave Deptula, currently the dean of the Mitchell Institute of Aerospace.

"If anything good comes out of the North Korea crisis," it should be a wake-up call, he said. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You would enable our fleet of aircraft to be ready for and all contingencies, no matter where they would be. With past administrations' budget cuts, our entire military has experienced issues like this. We thank You that things are changing, but we also pray for a quick turnaround in equipping our men to defend our land.

- "Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near." (Joel 3:9)

2. North Korea rhetoric remains sharp but shows signs of cooling - Washington Times

[Note: this article was published on Sunday morning, August 13th.]

The White House significantly scaled back its rhetoric against North Korea on Sunday, with both the national security adviser and the nation's top spy saying the U.S. is no closer to war with the communist nation, despite the president's vow to unleash "fire and fury" against the North should it lash out militarily against America and its Pacific allies.

North Korea's recent provocations tied to the country's nuclear ambitions, which have drawn the ire of Washington and the international community, have escalated the ongoing war of words between Pyongyang and Washington.

But the country's formidable conventional military, which is the fourth-largest armed force in the world, poses a much more serious threat to U.S. allies in the region, Defense Department analysts say.

Some estimates put Pyongyang's total military force of nearly 1 million active-duty and reserve troops, backed by an aging but still effective fleet of fighters, bombers, warships, tanks and submarines. (Read more)

- Lord, thank You for slowing the heated exchanges between the US and North Korea.

- "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." (Proverbs 15:1)

3. Breaking! Kim Jong Un's disappearance sparks concerns missile launch could be imminent - Fox News

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has vanished from the public eye for two weeks, South Korean media reported, prompting fears that he may be preparing to mark Tuesday's public holiday by firing a new rocket.

The last time Kim went days without being seen was prior to the ICBM launch in late July, when he remained incognito for two weeks before making his grandiose public appearance. His public withdrawal comes as nuclear tensions mount between Washington and Pyongyang, and on the heels of the leader's threat to attack the U.S. island territory of Guam.

On Tuesday, North Korea is set to commemorate the Korean Peninsula's liberation from Japan at the end of World War II.

Adding to the speculation of an imminent rocket-fire test, last week U.S.-based North Korea watchdog site 38 North released satellite imagery of a submarine base in the hermit country, showing that tarps had been placed above both the fore and aft decks of the Sinpo-class submarine base, presumably to conceal any inside movements. (Read more)

- Holy, merciful God Almighty! We come to You on bended knee, asking once again that You would make a way where there seems to be no way for this conflict to be resolved. Only You can change a man's heart, and we ask that You do that now on behalf of the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. In Your Name, amen.

- "The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes." (Proverbs 221:1)

4. MORE BREAKING NEWS!

North Korea Backs Off Guam Missile-Attack Threat
- Wall Street Journal

Kim Jong Un warns he could change his mind if the U.S. persists in 'extremely dangerous reckless actions'
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has decided not to launch a threatened missile attack on Guam, Pyongyang's state media reported on Tuesday, but warned that he could change his mind "if the Yankees persist in their extremely dangerous reckless actions."

The report, published early Tuesday, could help dial back tensions that had spiraled last week following an exchange of threats between North Korea and U.S. President Donald Trump.

North Korean state media said in its report Tuesday that Mr. Kim had made his decision not to fire on Guam after visiting a military command post and examining a military plan presented to him by his senior officers. (Read full report here.)

- Father God, our eyes are running down with tears of joy as we read this report out of the media in North Korea. Abba Father, may this be true; and may the U.S. and North Korea continue to find the means to "dial back" the words that have led us to this point of crisis. We worship You, O Lord, amen.

- "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
(James 5:16)

Focus on Israel

1. Virginia car-ramming terrorist idolized Hitler, Nazism - World Israel News

The man accused of plowing a car into a crowd of people protesting a white supremacist rally at Charlottesville, Virginia was fascinated with Nazism, idolized Adolf Hitler, and had been singled out by school officials in the 9th grade for his "deeply held, radical" convictions on race, a former high school teacher said Sunday.

James Alex Fields Jr. also confided that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was younger and had been prescribed an anti-psychotic medication, the teacher Derek Weimer said in an interview with The Associated Press.

In high school, Fields was an "average" student, but with a keen interest in military history, Hitler, and Nazi Germany, said Weimer, who said he was Fields' social studies teacher at Randall K. Cooper high school in Union, Kentucky, in Fields' junior and senior years.

2. Netanyahu seeks power to go to war without broad government approval - Jerusalem Post

A new initiative by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would allow him to decide on going to war with only the approval of the security cabinet, and not the full cabinet, Channel 2 reported Sunday.

The purpose of the bill is to avoid information leaks.

In some cases, according to the proposal, a prime minister would be able to declare war or get approval for a lengthy military operation even without the full security cabinet's approval.

The cabinet already reportedly approved the amendment to Basic Law: Government, which would allow the full cabinet to vote right after a government is formed to allow the security cabinet to decide whether to go to war.

3. Hezbollah head threatens Israel on Second Lebanon War anniversary - World Israel News

On the anniversary of the Second Lebanon War, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced to his followers that Israel "fears" the Lebanon-based terror group's growing power.

Addressing crowds on Sunday in a ceremony marking the 11th anniversary of what Hezbollah calls the "Divine Victory," the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Nasrallah warned that the cost of an Israeli war on Lebanon would be "very high." He called on "the Israeli enemy" to consider dismantling the Dimona reactor, which he has threatened to attack in the past.

"The sample which Israelis had seen during [the] July [2006] war, they will see it multiplied by 100 times in any future confrontation on all levels," Nasrallah threatened.

4. Hezbollah attack will bring 'destruction throughout Lebanon' - Bennett - Times of Israel

Announcing a "new strategy," Education Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday vowed to hold all of Lebanon responsible for any attack against Israel carried out by the Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group.

"Israel's interest is to prevent another confrontation in Lebanon, and so our new strategy is simple: Lebanon equals Hezbollah, Hezbollah equals Lebanon," Bennett, a member of Israel's security cabinet, said in a statement.

"Unlike the Second Lebanon War, this time we won't differentiate between the organization and the State of Lebanon. This means any attack by Hezbollah will cause destruction throughout Lebanon and its institutions."

5. Mossad Chief warns: Iran is taking over the Middle East - Israel National News

Mossad Director Yossi Cohen briefed the cabinet Sunday, warning that the Iranian regime is expanding its control across the Middle East through proxy forces in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen.

"In places where Iran's presence is limited, Iran is working to fill the void." he said.

Cohen also said that Iran has not abandoned its aspirations to become a nuclear power, and that the nuclear agreement signed between the world powers and Iran only strengthens Iranian aggression in the region.

The Mossad head also told ministers that Iran's economy has gotten stronger ever since signing the nuclear accords in 2015, a trend that has been reinforced by recent international agreements. The agreement freed frozen Iranian funds and led to trade agreements with European countries eager to profit from the opportunity. Under Obama, the US also sent Iran hundreds of millions of dollars after Iran freed US hostages.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said during the discussion that Cohen's assessment proves that the agreement between the major world powers and Iran was fundamentally unsound, as he had warned, and noted that Israel is not obligated in any way to the international agreements signed by Iran.

1. President Trump Delivers Address on Charlottesville - The White House

"Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups . . ."

The following is an excerpt of an official statement released today, by the White House and President Trump. To read his full remarks, click here.

And as I have said many times before: No matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws, we all salute the same great flag, and we are all made by the same almighty God. We must love each other, show affection for each other, and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry, and violence. We must rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans.

Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.

We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. We are equal in the eyes of our Creator. We are equal under the law. And we are equal under our Constitution. Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America.

As a candidate, I promised to restore law and order to our country, and our federal law enforcement agencies are following through on that pledge. We will spare no resource in fighting so that every American child can grow up free from violence and fear. We will defend and protect the sacred rights of all Americans, and we will work together so that every citizen in this blessed land is free to follow their dreams in their hearts, and to express the love and joy in their souls.

Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America.

- Father God, we offer praise tonight that You have placed this good man in the office of the President of the United States of America. We come against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, who even this morning are working to remove him from his throne. We thank You, Lord, that as we pray, You will answer. In Your Name, amen.

- "But the LORD is with me like a dread champion; Therefore my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will be utterly ashamed, because they have failed, With an everlasting disgrace that will not be forgotten." (Jeremiah 20:11)

2. Merck CEO Resigns From Trump Council Over Charlottesville - One America News

Merck & Co Inc Chief Executive Kenneth Frazier resigned from U.S. President Donald Trump's American Manufacturing Council on Monday, saying he was taking a stand against intolerance and extremism. Frazier, who is African-American, is the only CEO so far to leave one of Trump's advisory councils because of his reaction to the violence in Virginia. Prominent Democrats and Republicans criticized Trump's response to the violence over the weekend.

A gathering of hundreds of white nationalists in Virginia took a deadly turn on Saturday when a car plowed into a group of counter-protesters and killed at least one person.

Trump had said "many sides" were involved, drawing fire from across the political spectrum for not specifically denouncing the far right.

"America's leaders must honor our fundamental views by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal," Frazier said in a statement announcing his resignation. (Read more)

- Father, our nation is so polarized that even a CEO of a major company can't discern what is actually being said. We pray from the depths of our hearts that You will bring a move of Your Holy Spirit to our land.

- "Revive Your Work in the midst of the years. In Your wrath, remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

3. Scaramucci: Elements From Within Want to Eject Trump - TruNews

Mr. Scaramucci made these comments during an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week".

"The president is not a representative of the political establishment class, and so for whatever reason, people have made a decision that they want to eject him," Mr. Scaramucci said. "It's almost like he's opened up the door now for America's CEOs and America's billionaires to enter the Washington political system. The members of that political class do not like that."

Mr. Stephanopoulos asked Mr. Scaramucci if President Trump was fighting "an enemy within the White House." "I think that there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda," Mr. Scaramucci said. "I absolutely believe that, yes."

Mr. Stephanopoulos prompted Mr. Scaramucci to "name names", but the former Trump staffer diverted, noting that he had already gone on record with who he believed were undermining the administration. "Well, I named some names," Mr. Scaramucci said. "There's been some strategic changes, and my guess is there will be more strategic changes. I think the president's getting his arms around the fact that if he wants to prosecute his agenda, he's got to bring in loyalists to him." (Read more)

- Lord, we erect a hedge of Your powerful protection around President Trump. As You protected King David against those who would make war with him and Your people, we ask that You do the same for the President as he fights to right our ship of state.

- "When my enemies turn back, they shall fall and perish at Your presence."
(Psalm 9:3)

4. Chelsea Handler Calls for Military Coup to Overthrow Trump - Breitbart

Talk show host Chelsea Handler took to Twitter over the weekend to urge the generals in President Donald Trump's administration to "remove" the president from office. "To all the generals surrounding our idiot-in-chief . . . the longer U wait to remove him, the longer UR name will appear negatively in history," the Netflix host tweeted Friday.

Handler kept up her criticism of Trump through the weekend while tweeting about the deadly car attack in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, tweeting directly to Ivanka Trump to tell her father to condemn racism while urging Republicans to "stop this madness." Handler has been one of the president's most vocal celebrity critics. The comedian regularly attacks Trump on her Twitter account, and has also gone after members of the president's family, including First Lady Melania Trump and Eric and Lara Trump's unborn child. (Read more)

- Lord, this talk show host is but one of many voices who cannot seem to hear what the President actually says. They are deceived and blinded to the truth. We ask that You remove the blinders from their eyes and the deafness from their ears, and stop their vicious attacks in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

- "The soul of the wicked desires evil." (Proverbs 21:10a)

5. McMaster Worked at Think Tank Backed by Soros-Funded Group that Helped Obama Sell Iran Nuclear Deal - Breitbart

White House National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster served at a UK-based think tank financed by a controversial, George Soros-funded group identified by the Obama White House as central in helping to sell the Iran nuclear deal to the public and news media.

From September 2006 to February 2017, McMaster is listed as a member of International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), where he served as consulting senior fellow. The IISS describes itself as a "world-leading authority on global security, political risk and military conflict." The IISS has been supportive of the Obama administration-brokered 2015 nuclear accord with Iran, and the group has repeatedly hit back against charges that Tehran has violated the agreement.

McMaster himself has been accused of purging the National Security Council of hardliners on Iran, and he is seen as a leading proponent of the Iran nuclear accord within the Trump administration. He has reportedly urged the White House to recertify Iran's compliance with the Iran nuclear deal. (Read more)

- Father, it appears that McMaster may be against President Trump. We ask that any and all personal agendas that are contradictory to those of our President be removed and revealed, or that he be fired. He has already demanded that there be no use of the term "Islamic terrorism" because he believe it is not helpful. We ask for truth, Lord. In Your Name, amen.

- "Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence." (Psalm 27:12)

6. DOJ Sued for Concealing Comey Records - WND Washington watchdog Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Department of Justice for refusing to provide copies of non-disclosure agreements pertaining to fired FBI Director James Comey. The federal department simply refused to respond to the Judicial Watch request.

The FBI allowed Comey to leave his position with copies of his notes of private conversations with President Trump, which he then turned over to a friend with instructions to publicize them in the media in an effort to provoke a special-counsel investigation.

Judicial Watch said Friday it filed the legal action "for all non-disclosure agreements pertaining to the handling, storage, protection, dissemination, and/or return of classified information that were signed by or on behalf of former FBI Director James Comey." (Read more)

- Father, wherever the corruption is within the FBI, we ask that You root it out and expose it for all the world to see.

- "When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it." (Psalm 37:34c)

7. Muslim convert runs for Congress, but stays silent on her faith - WND

Regina Mustafa is trying to become the first Muslim woman elected to Congress and, if successful, she says she will use her "sheer passion" to represent oppressed minorities across the United States, fight for more gun control and battle against climate change. Mustafa, a 37-year-old community activist living in Rochester, Minnesota, has announced her candidacy for the state's 1st congressional district. Mustafa moved to the state 12 years ago from Philadelphia. She is one of eight Democrats running for the seat being vacated by Tim Walz, D-Minn., who's leaving Congress to run for governor. Whoever wins the primary will likely win the general election in a district that swings Democrat. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will change this woman's heart and reveal truth to her.

- "Assuredly I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3)

8. Officials: Fleas in Two Arizona Counties Tested Positive for the Plague - Breitbart

Fleas in two Arizona counties tested positive for the Bubonic plague - the same disease that killed millions of people in the 14th century throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe, public health officials say.

Navajo County public health officials announced Friday that fleas collected near the town of Taylor tested positive for Yersinia pestis, the bacteria that causes the Bubonic plague, the Associated Press reports. The announcement came one week after Coconino County officials first discovered fleas in the area found to be carrying the plague.

KNXV reports that Coconino County officials first discovered the plague-infested fleas in the Red Lake area last week but also found fleas in the Doney Park area that tested positive for the disease. (Read more)

- Lord, we take authority over the plague infested fleas and by the power of Jesus' Name and by His Blood. We command that this disease will go no further and will be reversed from all states involved.

- "Behold I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19)

9. China and India on brink of armed conflict as hopes of resolution to border dispute fade - South China Morning Post

Chinese and Indian troops are readying themselves for a possible armed conflict in the event they fail in their efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to their border dispute on the Doklam plateau in the Himalayas, observers said. On Friday, India's defence minister Arun Jaitley told parliament that the country's armed forces are "prepared to take on any eventuality" of the stand-off, Indian Express reported the same day.

Sources close to the Chinese military, meanwhile, said that the People's Liberation Army is increasingly aware of the possibility of war, but will aim to limit any conflict to the level of skirmishes, such as those contested by India and Pakistan in Kashmir. (Read more)

- Lord It was written that these things would occur. Both China and India are nuclear powers- we pray for calm, and speak Shalom peace to this situation.

- "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." (Matthew 24:6)

10. 18 killed in attack on restaurant in Burkina Faso capital - Fox/AP

Suspected Islamic extremists opened fire at a Turkish restaurant in the capital of Burkina Faso late Sunday, killing at least 18 people in the second such attack on a restaurant popular with foreigners in the last two years. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the violence, which continued into the early hours Monday. Gunfire could be heard almost seven hours after the attack began.

In addition to those killed, eight others were wounded, Communications Minister Remi Dandjinou told journalists. Two of the attackers were also killed, he said. The victims came from several different nationalities, he said. At least one of the dead was French and another was Turkish. (Read more)

- Lord we ask that You stem the ride of Islamic terrorists in all countries of the world. We pray Your comfort for these families who have lost loved ones.

- "He will redeem their life from violence; and precious shall be their blood in His sight." (Psalm 72:14)

Charlottesville: Using lives for political gain

There is no good that can come from "white nationalists," who are Nazis, and extremist anti-fascists who call themselves "Antifa" meeting in the street of any city for any "protest." It is a recipe for disaster. In short it's two hate groups who hate each other, certain types of people, AND the American Constitutional Republic. This was evident in in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend. Of course, the haters are all saying that there is no place for hate, and the leftist media and leftist politicians are taking sides. Herein lies the trouble with free speech. There comes a responsibility with all types of freedom. These people choose hate over responsibility, politics over civility. They all should be held accountable.

The story begins with a movement to remove all the statues and public mention of those who led and fought on the Confederate side of the Civil War. Skin heads, white nationalists, Nazis, racists all gather together under the Confederate flag to protest such removal. They are a bunch of angry people. Antifa stands for "anti-fascist action" and, by its own definition, is an organization of anarchists and communists fighting to end fascism. In reality, they are the militant arm of the radical leftists who seek to undermine the US government and foment a socialist takeover of America. Add in Black Lives Matter, which has similar political goals and we have a gradient of hateful and wrong-minded groups converging.

There really is no "Yeah, but" in this situation. All sides are hate mongers and they would just as soon end the American form of government than suffer its benefits. The trouble with free speech is that it comes with the responsibility to be non-violent and do no harm to others. When you have these groups who wish to harm one another, responsible free speech falls in the streets. That's why we have law enforcement to protect the citizens and to protect the protesters from one another. Politicians often curb law enforcement to meet their political goals. By the time Virginia's governor, leftist Terry McAuliffe, called a state of emergency, a riot had ensued leaving one dead and numerous injured.

Common sense should dictate that when these types of people converge at the same point, there will be violence. Politicians need to quit playing games and protect the public safety by preventing violence rather than allowing it, and then placing blame as they play their twisted political games. Antifa, Black Lives Matter and McAuliffe all want to undermine the President. They and their media lapdogs blame the "white supremacists" for the whole thing, but they are all to blame. We all have the right to free speech and to peaceably assemble. Politicians and their pawns should be made to respect those rights for the safety of all citizens. Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Let us firmly promote peace and civility in our society. Be a voice of reason. It is the better way.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Signs and Wonders

"Dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico is biggest ever

Each summer, a large part of the Gulf of Mexico "dies". This year, the Gulf's "dead zone" is the largest on record, stretching from the mouth of the Mississippi, along the coast of Louisiana to waters off Texas, hundreds of miles away. Around 8,776 square miles of ocean, an area the size of New Jersey or Wales, is almost lifeless.

John Muir, the famed naturalist and early conservation campaigner, once said that: "When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe." His point was that everything in nature is connected, and that no part of our ecosystem exists entirely independently from any other.
It is perhaps no surprise then that ultimate cause of the Gulf of Mexico's dead zone can be found many miles inland. Fertilizers used by farmers then wash into the Mississippi River and eventually into the sea, where nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus stimulate an explosion in microscopic algae, creating huge "algal blooms." The algae then die and sink to the bottom, where they decompose. But the same bacteria which decompose the algae also use the sea's oxygen during the process, leaving an "anoxic" ocean.
Fish and other mobile sea creatures are able to escape the suffocating dead zone. Less lucky however are the sponges, corals, sea squirts and other animals who live their lives fixed in one place on the sea bed. Low oxygen levels place them under great stress and we have seen huge mortalities. Such losses will of course ripple up the food web, creating a negative chain reaction of increasing mortality rates in larger and larger animals.
The "dead zone" has grown this year due to increased rainfall in America's Midwest washing ever greater amounts of nutrients into the Mississippi, which ultimately end up in the Gulf. Not only is this a huge conservation issue - the Gulf contains key nursery habitats such as mangrove forests, sea grass beds and coral reefs that benefit adjacent fisheries - but it also has huge consequences for the local fishing economy, particularly the shrimp industry. Miracle: Baby Abandoned in Plastic Bag for 3 Days Survives
Thanks to Good Samaritans Who Found Her

[CBN News] A teen girl is being charged with attempted murder after abandoning her baby outside in a plastic bag for three days.

Miraculously the baby survived and has no serious injuries.

The 17-year-old mother, Harriet Hoyt, left her 8-month-old daughter in a bag under some bushes in a Sayre, Pennsylvania neighborhood Saturday night.

Two sisters found the child Tuesday afternoon after hearing some odd noises.

"My sister came out off the porch and went to the side to the backyard of my neighbor's house with a stick, thinking it was a dog. We thought it was a dog, honey, and it wasn't. It was a baby," Karen Seals told reporters.
