Houston was again pummeled by rain Monday after a brief respite as the catastrophic storm known as Harvey stalled over the region - submerging countless homes and businesses, turning freeways into rivers and prompting thousands to plead for help.

According to the National Weather Service, residents can expect another 24 inches of rain, the return of tropical storm force winds and high flood waters. The NWS has issued flood watches and warnings from near San Antonio to New Orleans, an area that is home to more than 13 million people.

The unprecedented storm is likely to displace at least 30,000 people, has cut power to 300,000 residents, led to five reported deaths and 2,000 rescues, while inundating the nation's fourth-largest city with over 11 trillion gallons of water. (Read more)

More than 3,000 people have been rescued by police in Houston since Harvey hit the city -- and that included 1,000 people rescued in eight hours on Monday alone, Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

But as that number rises, finding enough shelter for everyone has become a challenge. More buses were showing up at the Houston Convention Center, which already was housing about 5,500 people Monday -- and officials are accepting anyone who arrives.

But capacity for the center, located on the east side of downtown Houston, is 5,000. (Read more)

1. Trump issues guidance on transgender military ban - Fox News

President Trump has ordered the military to stop admitting transgender individuals into the military, sending guidance to the Pentagon on Friday that the White House wants implemented by March of 2018, Fox News has learned. The president signed and transmitted his directive to the Department of Defense, which includes the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Coast Guard. It directs the secretary of defense and secretary of homeland security to make changes by March 23. The directive reinstates the ban on military service for transgender individuals. It also halts military expenses on sexual reassignment surgery, except for those who have already begun medical procedures, and implements criteria for whether transgender individuals already in the military should be allowed to continue to serve. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You that, in his statement, President Trump has acknowledged the fact that the policy of the former administration concerning transgender rulings served only to weaken our military. We praise You, O Lord, for giving us a man of courage who now sits in the Oval Office, in Your name, amen.

- "Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 1:8)

2. President Trump Pardoned Joe Arpaio - The Atlantic

President Trump formally pardoned Joe Arpaio on Friday, wielding the presidential power of mercy to absolve the former Arizona sheriff for defying a federal court order.

"Throughout his time as Sheriff, Arpaio continued his life's work of protecting the public from the scourges of crime and illegal immigration," the White House said in a statement. "Sheriff Joe Arpaio is now eighty-five years old, and after more than fifty years of honorable service to our Nation, he is [a] worthy candidate for a Presidential pardon." Trump subsequently confirmed the decision on Twitter. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has now been vindicated. Amen.

- "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority . . ." (I Timothy 2:1,2)

3. 'Ten Commandments Judge' Roy Moore's star rising in Alabama Senate runoff race - Fox News

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore is seeing his star rise in the state's Republican Senate race despite both President Trump and Vice President Pence publicly backing his incumbent rival.

Moore, a Christian conservative known as the "Ten Commandments Judge," finished atop a crowded field during the Aug. 15 primary, winning 39 percent to incumbent Sen. Luther Strange's 33 percent.

Because no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote, Moore and Strange, endorsed by Trump and Pence, head to a Sept. 26 runoff. (Read more)

5. Report: Trump to present plan for reviving peace talks - The Times of Israel

Palestinian officials believe that US President Donald Trump will lay out a plan in the coming months on reaching an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal as part of his administration's efforts to revive peace talks between the sides, according to a Sunday report.

During a meeting in Ramallah Thursday, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Trump would present the plan in the next three to four months in exchange for the Palestinian leader abandoning efforts to pursue statehood in international bodies, the Israel Hayom daily reported Sunday, citing an unnamed Palestinian official.

The paper said Abbas agreed to Kushner's proposal, but demanded that Trump personally commit to the US peace plan, setting a meeting between the two leaders during the UN General Assembly in September.

The US plan would include a set timetable for talks, which would focus on the so-called core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Palestinian official said. (Read more)

Senior members of the Trump administration and Israeli officials renewed talks over the possibility of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a promise repeatedly made by the president in the 2016 election campaign, during high-level meetings in Israel last week, the Times of Israel has learned.

Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner, peace envoy Jason Greenblatt and Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategy Dina Powell met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday as part of a visit to the region in a bid to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.

During that meeting, the embassy move "was brought up by both sides as part of a productive broad conversation about a number of issues," a US source familiar with the discussions said Sunday, declining to reveal the specifics of discussion. (Read more)

8. North Korea fires missile over Japan in show of defiance - Fox News

North Korea fired a missile over Japan for the first time in eight years, the Pentagon confirmed on Monday, as the rogue nation sent a message of defiance to the U.S. and its allies in the region.

The missile was fired from the area of Sunan in Pyongyang shortly before 6 a.m. and flew east, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said, according to Yonhap News Agency. It traveled over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido and appeared to be the first to soar over the country since 2009, South Korean officials added.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga labeled it an "unprecedented grave threat." (Read more)

9. South Korea tests bombs in response to North Korea missile launch - Fox News

South Korea's air force effectively fired back at North Korea's missile launch over Japan by conducting a live-fire drill involving powerful bombs, officials said early Tuesday.

Four F-15 fighters dropped eight MK-84 bombs that accurately hit targets at a military field near South Korea's eastern coast, Seoul's presidential spokesman Park Su-hyun said. Each bomb has an explosive yield of a ton, according to the country's air force.

Park also said South Korean national security director Chung Eui-yong called President Donald Trump's national security adviser H.R. McMaster to discuss the North's launch. (Read more)

When politics takes precedent over life

Hurricane Harvey has passed through Houston, leaving devastation in its wake. Now the finger pointing begins. Already the news media is saying that President Donald Trump didn't do enough. But there is also a little feud brewing between Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, a Democrat, and Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott. It seems that Abbott wanted at least the low laying flood-prone areas of Houston to be evacuated and Turner didn't want any of the city evacuated. The Wall Street Journal reports Turner urged people to stay in their homes as the hurricane blew into Houston, leaving five dead and more than 3,000 in need of rescue, with another 30 inches of rain forecast over the current 24 inches.

The Journal reported that Retired Army Lt. General Russell Honore, who led the Department of Defense response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita said, "I'm not trying to be critical of the mayor and history will prove whether they guessed right or they guessed wrong, but I do not believe we should leave people in a place we know is going to flood. It's counterintuitive." Turner said in a TV interview that there was "no question" in his mind that he made the right decision. Abbott said he had left several messages on Turner's cell phone offering assistance, but hadn't heard back. Keep in mind that cell phones always show the number of the person calling. Turner would know that it was the governor.

Harvey had hardly hit the coast before the news media began ganging up on Trump for not doing enough. Reuters gave some insight into the shark-fest with White House Homeland Security advisor Tom Bossert's response to a question. Referring to the President, he said, "His questions aren't about the geopolitical issues or about large political consequences. His questions are: 'Are you dong what it takes to help the people that are going to be affected by this storm?'" The story went on to recall that the "flawed response" to Katrina by Republican President George W. Bush in 2005 "tainted the remainder" of his presidency. Of course, it never mentioned the incompetence of the New Orleans Democratic mayor whose blundering had a rippling impact on rescue and aid efforts.

The media and the Democratic Party minions blame Republican governors and presidents for anything that goes wrong in natural disasters. In reality it is often Democratic mayors who make the wrong decisions which prevent Governors and Presidents from appearing to respond appropriately. The mayors, who make the call for state and federal assistance, usually get a pass. It all seems so political-in this case the Houston mayor won't take calls from the Texas governor. The media is insinuating that President Trump is playing politics with the response. Meanwhile, lives are on the line. These political lapdogs in the media and Democratic mayors like Turner should be ashamed of themselves. But mark these words: The media will blame Abbott and Trump. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Praying for the Victims of the Flood

Submitted by the 24/7 National Strategic Prayer Call

- First, we bless all those who are serving God's purposes in reaching out in love to their neighbors!

- We lift up all those who are suffering due to the storm and its aftermath, especially those believers who are dealing with this in Godly ways, encouraging one another in His love!

- Next, we reach out in love to those who have not been His . . . calling them to "come home" . . . to Him! - Let us "see beyond" the natural as we cover and speak God's destiny and purpose to come forth for all!

- We pray that the Body of Christ might demonstrate the love of Christ to all those who have been affected by this crisis.

- As we enter this Warfare of Love. . . invoking the name of Jesus Christ over the storm and its aftermath . . . and engage more deeply in the Battle of the Bride, let us be a visible demonstration of His LOVE through our service to our brothers and sisters in prayer and action.

- Let us both BE and BRING the "message" of His love to those who are affected and looking for hope!!

Pray as the Spirit leads, for all in harm's way to encounter the LIVING GOD in the midst of their storms!

Enthroned over the Flood

Enthroned over the Flood:

A Devotional Written by Derek Prince

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. (NIV) Psalm 29:10-11

The psalmist there presents the Lord as a mighty King on His throne. He's enthroned over the flood, over the mighty, raging waves of the sea. The sea speaks to us there of tremendous forces let loose in the universe which could threaten our very life and which we cannot control, but the psalmist reminds us that over those forces there is a King - one who sits on a throne - and it's the Lord.

The psalmist says elsewhere that when we give the Lord our praises we enthrone Him. We acknowledge Him as a King and then He works as King on our behalf. And so when we recognize that the Lord is enthroned above the flood and when we offer Him our praises, then He responds in two ways: He gives strength to His people and He blesses His people with peace. Ultimately, the strength that will see us through the days of pressure is the strength that comes from the Lord.
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" and in the midst of all the pressure, God blesses His people with peace. Peace does not depend upon external circumstances. It depends on a personal relationship to the Lord enthroned on the flood.

-Derek Prince
