Focus on Israel

1. US State Department Pushes Israel to Ban Jewish Prayer on Temple Mount - Breaking Israel News

The US State Department's annual report on religious freedoms, released on Thursday, focused much attention on Jerusalem, calling for the Israeli government to strengthen the ban on Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount.

"The U.S. Ambassador and embassy officers spoke with government officials and Knesset leaders about the importance of maintaining the status quo at the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif and not escalating tensions through provocative actions or statements," the report read, referring to the Temple Mount by its Arabic name.

The "status quo" is an understanding among religious communities with respect to religious sites in Jerusalem and Bethlehem and was first established by the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century. Under the Muslim Ottomans, Jerusalem was divided into four quarters and the Temple Mount became a Muslim holy place, ignoring the Jewish connection to the site. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre as well as other various Christian sites were recognized as belonging to the Christian world. (Read more)

- Father God, we stand in the gap for the U.S. Department of State with their position on Israel. We repent that they refuse to refer to the Temple Mount by its true, Hebrew name; and that these prayers are forbidden at that site. We ask that this Department come into alignment now with the policies of our President, who is a strong supporter of the nation of Israel. Amen.

2. Palestinians say no peace talks until US reverses recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - World Israel News

The Palestinians' head negotiator, Saeb Erekat, announced on Tuesday that any peace talks sponsored by the United States would be rejected until the Americans revoke their December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Erekat made these remarks to the Voice of Palestine radio station, reported the Palestinian Authority's (PA) official Wafa news site, referring to any future US-proposed solutions or calls to restart the peace process as "unacceptable to the Palestinian leadership" until US President Donald Trump changes course on the US' Jerusalem declaration.

3. Herzog offers Saudis 'special role' on Temple Mount - Israel National News

Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog (Zionist Union) spoke to the Saudi Elaph news outlet, claiming his party will bring down Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's party and work to create a Palestinian state.

"The Israeli people are ready for peace, and there is a basis for reaching a historic agreement," Herzog said.

Herzog also suggested giving Saudi Arabia special status with regards to the holy places in Jerusalem.

4. Israeli Man Shot Dead in Drive-by Attack on Main West Bank Road Near Nablus - Algemeiner

The victim - Rabbi Raziel Shevach, a 35-year-old father of six - was alone driving a car which was fired upon from a passing Palestinian vehicle at the Havat Gilad junction on Route 60 at around 8 p.m. local time. Shevach - who lived in the Havat Gilat outpost - was able to telephone for help, but he later passed away from his wounds at a hospital in Kfar Saba.

IDF troops arrived at the scene of the attack and began conducting searches in the area, which has seen many Palestinian terrorist attacks over the years.

5. Israel strikes weapons depots near Damascus, Syrian army says - Israel Hayom

Syrian media on Tuesday alleged that Israel mounted three strikes on targets near Damascus overnight. The sites held weapon caches likely earmarked for Hezbollah. The reports were nor corroborated by any Israeli source. In a statement, the Syrian army said its air defenses had intercepted at least one Israeli missile launched from Lebanese airspace at military outposts in Qutayfeh, a northeastern suburb of Damascus, where Syrian Republican Guard units are known to have major outposts. The Syrian army also said the IDF fired surface-to-surface missiles from the Golan Heights, and claimed that Syrian defenses downed one of them.

1. BREAKING NEWS: Fusion GPS Founder's Senate Testimony Has Been Released - Daily Caller

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein circumvented her Republican colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday and released more than 300 pages of testimony provided last year by Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson. Feinstein's decision came after a tense back-and-forth between Republicans and Democrats over what to do with the transcript of Simpson's interview, which he provided on Aug. 22. That battle heated up last week after Simpson and his Fusion GPS co-founder Peter Fritsch penned an op-ed in The New York Times calling on the three congressional committees who have interviewed Fusion GPS employees to release transcripts of the interviews.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, balked at the idea, saying that the transcript needed to remain confidential while the panel is interviewing other witnesses. Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which has also interviewed members of Fusion GPS, also appeared to back Grassley's rationale last week. He said that he would like Fusion partners to appear for public testimony. (Read more)

- Father, we ask You to turn everything the enemy means for harm to the good for our nation. Only You can circumvent their wicked plans and expose their duplicity.

- He will cause the evil deeds of my enemies to boomerang upon them. Do as you promised and put an end to these wicked men, O God. (Psalm 54:5, TLB)

2. Lawmakers agree to four goals in immigration talks with Trump - Washington Examiner

Lawmakers who met with President Trump on Tuesday to discuss immigration say they have narrowed the scope of a potential deal, and said that work has left them optimistic that a bill can be written and passed. A group of 20 Democrats and Republicans met with Trump to begin hashing out a bipartisan deal to protect so-called Dreamers who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children, in exchange for new border security and interior immigration reform measures.

Senators said they decided on four parameters: protecting the Dreamers so they can stay and work in the U.S., implementing the border and interior enforcement measures, limiting chain migration, and changing the visa lottery system, perhaps in a way that can benefit those who are now part of the expiring program for those living in the United States under temporary protected status. "If we can stick with those limited topics, that is good news," Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who attended the meeting, said after returning to the Capitol. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., called the meeting "very helpful," and said "people listened to each other." She described the meeting as "a beginning." Another bipartisan meeting is slated for Wednesday. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these talks will lead to good immigration legislation and public policy. We pray for Your heart of both justice and mercy to be represented in the final bill.

- Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the Lord God of Heaven's Armies will have mercy on the remnant of his people. (Amos 5:15)

3. CIA Director Seeks Stronger Counterintelligence against Spies and Leakers - Free Beacon

Counterintelligence at CIA today is a far cry from its Cold War world of Soviet moles or penetration agents and neutralizing them or turning them into double agents. Current CIA Director Mike Pompeo is working to change all that. Pompeo has elevated the status of CIA's counterintelligence center, a dedicated unit within the agency's Langley, Va., headquarters that is devoted to identifying and countering foreign intelligence agents and their activities. CIA counterintelligence efforts, however, remain limited by a lack of both qualified personnel and strategic vision needed to deal with a growing spy threat that today includes both cyber operations and influence activities, in addition to traditional spying by nations such as China and Russia. The foreign spying threat is increasing in both scale and sophistication, according to intelligence experts.

As part of the reform, Pompeo is stepping up internal security at CIA in a bid to better identify leakers-employees who may be politically motivated to conduct more non-traditional digital-age crimes-such as exposing secrets in a bid to undermine American intelligence, or overall U.S. national security. "The director has made counterintelligence a priority at CIA because if we don't achieve perfection in this realm, all our other efforts at the agency are at risk," said Dean Boyd, CIA director of public affairs. "The last thing CIA can tolerate is to have a secret we've stolen re-stolen." (Read more)

- Father, we pray You will give CIA Director Pompeo wisdom to institute the necessary institutional reforms to identify, remove and prosecute leakers. We pray our intelligence secrets will be protected here at home and abroad.

- You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. (Psalm 31:20)

4. Success: EPA set to cut nearly 50% of staff in Trump's first term

- Washington Examiner

The Environmental Protection Agency, seen by President Trump as a bloated bureaucratic whale, is on schedule to fulfill his promise to cut its staff nearly in half by the end of his first term, according to officials. The EPA Tuesday provided to Secrets its first year staff cutting results which show that the agency is below levels last seen during former President Reagan's administration. And if just those slated to retire by early 2021 leave, Administrator Scott Pruitt and his team will have reduced a staff of nearly 15,000, to below 8,000, or a cut of 47 percent.

"We're proud to report that we're reducing the size of government, protecting taxpayer dollars and staying true to our core mission of protecting the environment," Pruitt said in a statement to Secrets. Pruitt has used buyouts to spur some of the cuts and attractive retirement benefits have also led many to leave the agency. He also instituted a hiring freeze. Under Pruitt, the agency has gone the "back to basics" of protecting the environment while shucking former President Obama's political agenda focused heavily on climate change. (Read more) - Thank-You, Father, for this good report! We ask You to enable the Trump Administration to identify and remove all federal employees whose jobs do not benefit the American people.

- The hand of those who do their best will rule, but the lazy hand will be made to work. (Proverbs 12:24)

5. It's Time To End Congress' Budget Shenanigans, Focus On Growth Policies - Investor's Business Daily

The federal government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. In 2016, the feds collected a gargantuan $3.7 trillion in taxes. This staggering amount of revenue, the most ever collected in one year, did not come remotely close to covering federal spending. Congress managed to run a deficit of $666 billion, as annual spending ballooned to a mind-boggling $3.9 trillion.

Out-of-control spending practices have created a total of $20.5 trillion in public debt and up to an additional $95 trillion in unfunded liabilities, kept off of the books with accounting gimmicks. The nation is careening toward a financial catastrophe, and the reckless course the federal government has embarked upon will be rife with economic suffering and social upheaval. To avoid this devastating scenario, Congress must change its ways. To stop the federal government's spending practices, Congress must end its use of accounting gimmicks. Baseline budgeting and intergovernmental transfer payments are just a few examples of the financial shenanigans perpetuated by federal lawmakers. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for honesty and integrity throughout our Federal system of government, especially in the use of words. We pray the enemy will not be able to hide his plans in confusion.

- I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
(Galatians 5:10)

6. Law Enforcement Backs Sessions's Ending of Hands-Off Approach to Marijuana - Free Beacon

Law enforcement and prosecutor organizations gave their support to Attorney General Jeff Sessions's Thursday decision to rescind Obama-era guidance which discouraged prosecutors from enforcing the federal laws against marijuana in states which had legalized the drug. Sessions's guidance most prominently overturned a 2013 memo from then-Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole, often referred to as the "Cole memo." Issued in the wake of marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington state, the memo instructed U.S. Attorneys to not enforce marijuana's schedule I status in states where its recreational consumption had been legalized and regulated. In its place, Sessions's new guidance simply instructs prosecutors to "follow the well-established principles that govern all federal prosecutions."

Law enforcement officials applauded Sessions' move. "We applaud the Attorney General for this action today that brings clarity on enforcement of the law by rescinding a confusing policy brought on by the previous administration that hindered law enforcement. This will allow sheriffs to carry out their mission of upholding the rule of law and keeping their communities safe," said National Sheriffs' Association President Harold Eavenson and Executive Director Jonathan Thompson in a statement. "The Attorney General's announcement is good news for public safety and public health," Chuck Canterbury, president of the Fraternal Order of Police said. "There will be no Federal agents chasing individual users-but it will give law enforcement the discretion it lost when the Cole Memo was issued." (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that this determination by AG Sessions will accomplish what it is intended to do. We thank You that discretion will now be returned to local law enforcement.

- "Discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you." (Proverbs 2:11)

7. Why Dissolving the Election Fraud Commission Is a True Loss for the Nation - The Daily Signal

This week, the White House announced the sudden, disappointing news that the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity was being dissolved. Liberal advocacy groups, which for months have worked to obstruct the group's efforts to examine the integrity and security of the ballot box, ecstatically declared victory. But their win is a loss for the nation, which remains blind to the true breadth and scope of fraud in American elections. As if to emphasize that point, The Heritage Foundation has once again added a slew of new cases to its election fraud database.

Accounting for the new entries, the database now lists 1,107 verified instances of fraud, including 961 criminal convictions of proven fraudsters, 48 cases that ended in civil penalties, 76 cases that resulted in defendants entering diversion programs, and 22 that ended with either a judicial or official finding of fraud. That's quite a tally for a problem that supposedly doesn't exist. But as alarming as that figure is, it's only the tip of the iceberg. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Homeland Security, state and local governments will work together to ensure valid voter rolls and elections.

- Righteousness guards people of integrity, but wickedness undermines the sinner. (Proverbs 13:6)

8. Google's New Fact-Check Feature Almost Exclusively Targets Conservative Sites - Daily Caller

Google, the most powerful search engine in the world, is now displaying fact checks for conservative publications in its results. No prominent liberal site receives the same treatment. And not only is Google's fact-checking highly partisan - perhaps reflecting the sentiments of its leaders - it is also blatantly wrong, asserting sites made "claims" they demonstrably never made.

When searching for a media outlet that leans right, like The Daily Caller (TheDC), Google gives users details on the sidebar, including what topics the site typically writes about, as well as a section titled "Reviewed Claims." Vox, and other left-wing outlets and blogs like Gizmodo, are not given the same fact-check treatment. When searching their names, a "Topics they write about" section appears, but there are no "Reviewed Claims." In fact, a review of mainstream outlets, as well as other outlets associated with liberal and conservative audiences, shows that only conservative sites feature the highly misleading, subjective analysis. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this information about how Google picks winners and losers will become common knowledge and for people to be skeptical of slanderous and erroneous information presented as fact.

- Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. (Ephesians 4:31)

9. Iran warns world to prepare for US nuke deal withdrawal - Times of Israel

Iran warned the world on Monday to prepare for the possible withdrawal of the United States from the landmark nuclear deal agreed in 2015. "The international community must be prepared for the US possibly pulling out of the JCPOA," said deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, using the technical name for the nuclear deal.

Iran signed the accord in 2015 with six world powers, agreeing to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of many international sanctions. US President Donald Trump openly despises the deal - a central foreign policy achievement of his predecessor Barack Obama - but has so far continued to waive the nuclear-related sanctions at regular intervals as required to stay in compliance. The next deadline for Trump to waive sanctions falls on Friday.

"We in Iran are prepared for any scenario. The international community and our region will be the biggest loser, since a successful experience in the international arena will be lost," he added. "Our region will not become a safer region without the JCPOA." A withdrawal by the US will lead to an "appropriate and heavy response," added foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi. "The US administration will definitely regret it," he said on state television. (Read more)

- Father, the Iranian leadership curses us because of our true devotion to You and to Israel. We ask that You show them whose God is really greater!

- Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine." (1 Samuel 17:36-37)

10. 'America's toughest sheriff' Joe Arpaio announces Senate run - World Net Daily

He set up work camps for jail inmates and clothed them in pink during his decades as sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. He also fought on the front lines of the war against illegal aliens entering the United States and sued Barack Obama over the issue. Now he wants to take his no-nonsense approach to government to Washington to help President Trump.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, an octogenarian who has stated repeatedly that he's not done being a public servant, announced Tuesday he's seeking to replace outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.. "Moments ago, I filed the paperwork to run for United States Senate in Arizona to fill the seat that Jeff Flake is leaving behind," he wrote in an email. "This is NOT going to be easy, and I pray to have your continued support today on DAY ONE of my campaign." He described himself as "America's toughest sheriff" while on duty in Arizona. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up Sheriff Arpaio to You and pray Your blessing upon him as he desires to serve the people of Arizona as their Senator.

- Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.
(Proverbs 16:31)

Good news for a change

In reading through the headlines this morning, there wasn't any good news to report. A lot of stories about the celebrities wearing black because of their sexual assault claims; the NAACP wanting people to wave white towels at the college championship game because they see President Donald Trump as a racist; The recent ex-"president" spending taxpayer money on a lavish presidential library; Town to fine drivers $200 for taking GPS-guided shortcuts; US sets new cost record for major disasters; and it goes on and on. We live in a world where the media is tabloid style--rather than reporting the truth--it reports the sensational in this ever competitive 24-7 news cycle. So is there any good news out there?

How about if we make our own good news? I'm thinking that each of us has a good news story that we can share. One that I would like to share with you is what we have done in Ghana, West Africa this past year under the able leadership of Pastor William Agbeti. William and I have been working together since 1992 in various outreach projects. He's an honest, selfless, tireless visionary who puts his thoughts to action in helping make the world a better place. Over the years, we have worked on projects to build houses, teach people how to build computers, give homes to severely handicapped children, bring sanitary kits to Ebola-infected areas, clean water, clothing and food to rural areas where the big churches refuse to go. To the people these project impact, that's pretty good news.

William says that Daily Jot readers have impacted the poor, rural people of Ghana greatly. He reports, "The support and donations that came from and through you made it so!Each donation helped a great deal to impact a soul, touch a family, transform a community, put food on the table, ignite a heart and glorify God. Above all, His Kingdom expanded as many accepted Christ.Well over 1,200 children benefited from the benevolence of donors, not to mention needy parents who received the gift of love, hope and material things. Some children were saved from the throes of death, others received the gift of life (Water), while many were snatched away from the devastating effects of hunger."

A little bit from each of us makes a big difference in a lot of people's lives. We are not a big ministry. We don't have a staff. The Daily Jot is designed to inform and equip people of news from a Biblical perspective. It is a free news service. There are no salaries. No expensive offices. Those who donate to this ministry see their gifts multiplied in the examples given by Pastor Agbeti. We have a Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20 heart: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." We try to spread the Good News for a change in lives.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns

Come Down O Love Divine

"They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them." (Acts 2:2-3)

Lyrics

Come down, O love divine, seek Thou this soul of mine,
And visit it with Thine own ardor glowing.
O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear,
And kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.

O let it freely burn, til earthly passions turn
To dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
And let Thy glorious light shine ever on my sight,
And clothe me round, the while my path illumine.

Let holy charity mine outward vesture be,
And lowliness become mine inner clothing;
True lowliness of heart, which takes the humbler part,
And o'er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.

And so the yearning strong, with which the soul will long,
Shall far outpass the power of human telling;
For none can guess its grace, till he become the place
Wherein the Holy Spirit makes His dwelling.

The Taylor family has been through an incredible ordeal over these past few weeks, but they're finally seeing the healing hand of God at work.

Joel is the CEO of the Bethel Music worship ministry, and the Bethel community has rallied in prayer around the family.

Little Jaxon and Addie have been fighting the same dangerous E. Coli infection in the hospital, but Jaxon came down with it first and his situation had become critical.

Now Janie reports on Instagram, "He is playing, he is eating, yesterday his feeding tube and fem line came out . . . every moment feels like a miracle."

"Jaxon's name means the Lord has been gracious and has shown favor. Every time this boy says a word it is a miracle of the goodness of God. Now he is saying full sentences again; my boy has come back to me. Thank you all for being a part of this miracle.
