1. VP Pence to visit Israel, Egypt, Jordan but will not meet with Palestinians - World Israel News

Vice President Mike Pence will visit Egypt, Jordan and Israel this month after postponing a trip to the Middle East in December following President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The White House announced Monday that Pence will travel to the region Jan. 19-23, starting with a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. Pence will also confer with King Abdullah II of Jordan and then hold two days of meetings and events in Israel. (Read more)

- Abba, with reports of this trip being planned, then canceled, to now planned again, we seek Your will and protection for Vice President Pence regarding all aspects of this trip. We ask You to release angelic protection for him and all his entourage when they travel. We ask for wisdom and discernment for Vice President Pence during his meetings with other leaders. We pray that all would be accomplished according to Your will, in the name of Yeshua, amen.

- "He will give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
(Psalm 91:11)

2. With rare Israel visit, Bahraini delegation seeks new dialogue for coexistence - Times of Israel

In a strikingly rare instance of a visit to Israel by representatives from an Arab country without diplomatic relations, a delegation of religious figures from the Gulf kingdom of Bahrain traveled to the Jewish state last month "to send a message of peace" from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

"Our message is peaceful coexistence with no government involvement," said Betsy Mathieson, president of the Bahrain-based nongovernmental organization "This is Bahrain," who led the delegation.

The 24 participants - Sunni and Shiite Muslims, as well as Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs - were invited to the country as guests of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a US-based Jewish human rights group. Representing the first publicly known delegation to visit Israel from the Persian Gulf kingdom, many saw the trip as a sign of potential warming ties between the two countries.

3. Watch: Border Police capture ISIS terrorists in southern Israel - Israel National News

Israeli police released footage Monday afternoon of the arrest of two Israeli Bedouin women suspected of planning terror attacks against Israeli Jews on behalf of the ISIS terrorist organization.

Rahma al-Assad and Tasnin al-Assad, both 19-year-old Israeli citizens from the Negev and members of the Bedouin community, were arrested in December near the town of Lakiya in southern Israel.

Footage of the arrest, which was conducted jointly by the Shin Bet internal security agency and Border Police officers, was released Monday, hours after military censors cleared the story for publication.

4. UNICEF acting to add IDF to list of 'grave violators of children's rights' - Israel Hayom

The United Nation's International Children's Fund is spearheading a campaign to include the Israel Defense Forces on a U.N. blacklist of "grave violators of children's rights," that includes terrorist groups like the Islamic State group and Boko Haram, this according to a new report by the NGO Monitor watchdog group.

The report, which according to Fox News, was presented to senior U.N. officials in recent weeks, illustrates how a working group of UNICEF, composed mainly of radical organizations involved in the campaign to delegitimize Israel, play a central role in blacklist efforts and even receive funding from UNICEF as well as a number of governments that sponsor the foundation.

The NGO Monitor report further shows how UNICEF opted to ignore violations of children's rights by Palestinian organizations in the Gaza Strip, when it admitted "the working group was not in a position to document cases of child recruitment and use of children in armed conflict owing to a number of factors, including security and protection risks related to collecting comprehensive and detailed information."

5. PA intransigence may bring about the end of a corrupt UNRWA - Israel National News

President Trump appears determined to defund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) should the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) refuse to resume negotiations with Israel.

Such negotiations - suspended since April 2014 - won't re-commence until Trump's eagerly-awaited peace plan - his "ultimate deal" - sees the light of day. Until then current UNRWA funding will probably continue.

Trump will have been singularly unimpressed with PLO Executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi describing America's threat to defund UNRWA as "blackmail".

US Ambassador to the United Nations - Nikki Haley - explained America's future intentions regarding UNRWA:

"The President has basically said he doesn't want to give any additional funding, or stop funding, until the Palestinians agree to come back to the negotiation table. We still very much want to have a peace process. Nothing changes with that. The Palestinians now have to show they want to come to the table.

6. UK foreign minister: Jerusalem should be 'shared capital' - World Israel News

Britain's chief diplomat Boris Johnson told the Palestinian Authority's Riyad al-Malki on Monday that Jerusalem will ultimately be shared by Israel and a future Palestinian state, according to a statement from the British foreign office .

"I reiterated the UK's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and the two-state solution, the urgent need for renewed peace negotiations, and the UK's clear and longstanding position on the status of Jerusalem," Johnson stated.

"It should be determined in a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and Jerusalem should ultimately be the shared capital of the Israeli and Palestinian states," he stated.

7. Palestinians seek EU recognition of Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as capital - Xinhua

RAMALLAH, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian officials said they had been making an effort to gain European Union's (EU) recognition of the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, after the U.S. recognized Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

Well informed Palestinian sources said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet with EU's foreign ministers on Jan. 22 in Brussels, during which he is expected to ask them to recognize the Palestinian state on the territories occupied by Israel in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The sources added that EU's recognition would revive the internationally-backed two-state solution and help the Palestinian bid to get a full UN membership. A committee from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has been preparing documents for discussion during the meeting of the organization's Central Council next week, deciding the future Palestinian political steps.

"The moves to be discussed include defining the relations with Israel in addition to the political and legal steps the Palestinians may take," Ahmed Majdalani, member of the PLO Executive Committee, told Xinhua. The Palestinian official stressed that next steps are based on the reality that the interim period with Israel had come to an end, and there must be a new political formula with multilateral sponsorship for the peace process.

"The general trend is to focus on how to deal with the emerging situation, considering Palestine as a state under occupation and requesting full UN membership for Palestine, which requires extensive international support," he said.

The Daily Brief

1. White House to release $1 trillion infrastructure spending plan this month - Washington Examiner

The White House will introduce a $1 trillion infrastructure plan this month, Gary Cohn said Friday. "January's going to be a big month for us on infrastructure. You will be seeing our infrastructure plan," said Cohn, the director of President Trump's National Economic Council. The core principle of the plan is to streamline the permitting process for approving infrastructure projects.

"We're striving for an 18-month approval process in this country," he said. Previously, Trump advisers have suggested that the infrastructure program could include both government spending and government tax incentives for private investment in public projects. Business groups and many Democrats favor greater government spending on roads, bridges, ports, and other infrastructure. Conservative Republicans, however, could balk at new government spending. They opposed the 2009 Obama stimulus package, parts of which were infrastructure spending. (Read more)

- Father, we thank you that this president has seen the terrible state of US infrastructure. We ask that You grant him favor to do what needs to be done.

- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)

2. Trump Ends Temporary Protected Status For 200,000 El Salvadorans - Breitbart

President Donald Trump's deputies are ending the often-extended 'TPS' temporary refugee status for up to 200,000 El Salvadoran migrants, which was first granted when earthquakes hit their home country in 2001.

The TPS decision - reported by numerous media outlets - underlines Trump's determination to enforce the nation's immigration laws, and to push his "Buy American, Hire American" inauguration-day promise, despite growing pressure from the GOP's business-first wing, Democrats and their allies in the establishment media.

The decision also pressures Democrats to accept Trump's immigration reforms - or else run as the pro-amnesty political party in November 2018. The secretary of the Department of Homeland Security is responsible for deciding whether or not to extend TPS status, based on whether the original disaster is still damaging the country. Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is Trump's DHS secretary.

Most of the 200,000 El Salvadoreans will return home by September 2019, likely boosting the small nation's economy with savings and skills earned in the United States during the last 17 years.

The decision will free up jobs for American citizens and other legal immigrants. (Read more)

- Lord, thank You that President Trump is cutting this program and sending the people back to their homeland. We believe good will come of this action, both for the President and for El Salvadore.

- "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

3. 2,139 DACA Recipients Convicted or Accused of Crimes Against Americans - Breitbart

Below, Breitbart News has compiled a list of 50 of the 2,139 DACA recipients, deemed "DREAMers" by the open borders lobby, who have had their temporary protected status revoked due to crimes including: "A felony criminal conviction; a significant misdemeanor conviction; multiple misdemeanor convictions; gang affiliation; or arrest of any crime in which there is deemed to be a public safety concern," according to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency.

The majority of crimes by DACA recipients include: "Alien smuggling, assaultive offenses, domestic violence, drug offenses, DUI, larceny and thefts, criminal trespass and burglary, sexual offenses with minors, other sex offenses and weapons offenses," USCIS has stated.

Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros, an illegal alien protected by DACA, was convicted in 2014 of two counts of felony hit and run after she killed two Forest Grove, Oregon, stepsisters - Anna Dieter-Eckerdt and Abigail Robinson ages 6 and 11 respectively - who were playing at the time of the incident, as Breitbart News reported. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that You find a way to help the American people see the truth about this issue. We also ask for a move of Your Spirit among the "dreamers," changing their hearts.

- "I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit within you." (Ezekiel 36:26a)

4. Cliven Bundy to walk free as federal judge dismisses Bundy Ranch standoff case - AZ Central

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, his two sons and a militia member will not face a retrial on charges that they led an armed rebellion against federal agents in 2014. A federal judge on Monday said the federal prosecutors' conduct was "outrageous" and "violated due process rights" of the defendants.

U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro dismissed the charges against the four men "with prejudice," meaning they cannot face trial again. She said a new trial would not be sufficient to address the problems in the case and would provide the prosecution with an unfair advantage going forward.

Navarro said it was clear the FBI was involved in the prosecution of the case, and that it was not a coincidence that most of the withheld evidence came from the FBI.

She said the prosecution's reliance on the FBI and failure to look beyond the documents the FBI provided represented an "intentional abdication of its responsibility." Essentially, she said the prosecution decided not to follow up because the evidence would have worked in the Bundys' favor.

As the courtroom doors opened after Navarro's ruling, a huge cheer went up from the crowd of spectators gathered outside. (Read more)

- Father, thousands of people and the families of the accused have prayed for this day. We thank You that the prosecution has finally been outed as operating with "flagrant prosecutorial misconduct." We ask that in the future, political motivations not be allowed to motivate Federal prosecutors.

- "When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes reproach." (Proverbs 18:3)

5. Supreme Court won't step into Mississippi gay rights legal fight - Fox News

The Supreme Court is refusing to intervene in a legal fight over a Mississippi law that lets government workers and private business people cite their own religious beliefs to deny services to LGBT people. Opponents say the law could lead to discrimination against those who support same-sex marriage.

The justices did not comment Monday in their decision to leave in place a federal appeals court ruling that allowed the law to take effect. A three-judge panel held that the law's challengers failed to show they would be harmed by it. The appellate judges did not rule on the law's substance.

The legal battle is not over, though. A federal judge has allowed the law's challengers to try to find people who have been denied services under the law because they would be able to make a strong legal claim that they have been harmed.

The Mississippi legislature drafted and approved the measure in response to the Supreme Court's 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage across the country. Gov. Phil Bryant signed it into law in 2016, but it was blocked for more than a year amid several legal challenges. It took effect Oct. 10. (Read more)

- We are glad that the law will be able to take effect, but we ask that the challenges to it be dropped. We ask that you set free those who participate in this lifestyle.

- "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)

6. Blue States Exploring Ways Around New Tax Law - Legalinsurrection

When President Trump signed the tax bill into law, Democrats, particularly in blue states with high state income taxes, wailed. The Nation declared the new tax law "a deliberate attack on blue states," and New York governor Andrew Cuomo called it an "attack only on blue states" and "economic civil war."

Among the attacks they perceive is the new law's $10,000 maximum for all state and local deductions. Oddly, the left is howling because this is, as Vox points out, "effectively raising taxes on wealthy people." Setting aside the fact that taxing the rich has been the leftist mantra for decades and became particularly shrill during the Obama administration, blue states are now actively looking for ways to get around this and other measures in the new tax law.

The AP reports:

In New Jersey and California, top Democratic officials want to let people make charitable contributions to the state instead of paying certain taxes. In Connecticut and New York, officials are exploring a switch from income taxes to new ones on payroll. A few governors have even called for tax cuts.

The ideas are bubbling up as state lawmakers begin their 2018 sessions and assess the effects of the Republican tax overhaul that President Donald Trump signed into law last month. Lawmakers and governors in some states are grappling with how to protect their constituents.

The federal policy implements a maze of changes. It cuts tax rates and nearly doubles the standard income deduction. Yet it also caps or eliminates some popular itemized deductions, and sets the personal exemptions to zero.

For many Americans, the result is expected to be lower federal tax obligations, at least initially. Those facing higher bills are expected to be concentrated in some high-tax states.

With legislators starting their sessions and governors writing state budgets, the response is a political priority. The proposals are bold, though not yet fleshed out. . . . . This week, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo used his state-of-the-state speech to pledge to sue over the GOP tax plan, which he called "an assault" by the federal government. A lawsuit would add taxes to the growing list of Trump administration policies that Democratic states have challenged in court.

Other states have not committed to sue, but some leaders have indicated they'll explore the idea. "I'm certainly not a constitutional lawyer, but the notion that this is not constitutional is something we want to pursue," said Phil Murphy, New Jersey's Democratic governor-elect.

Officials in California and Connecticut also said this week they were considering legal options. In addition to filing law suits in response to the new tax law, blue state governors and lawmakers are looking into allowing people to make "charitable donations" to the state instead of paying income taxes. (Read more)

- Lord, this plan is once again directly rebelling against the President. We pray that every move will be thwarted, and every lawsuit dropped.

- "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry." (1 Samuel 15:23a)

7. Will Democrats run on impeachment in 2018 midterms? Don't count it out - Fox News

After months of shying away from the toxic topic, Democrats increasingly are embracing political rhetoric that flirts with the impeachment of President Trump - signaling a strategy that could work its way into the mainstream in the 2018 midterms.

From the base, the party sees encouragement. A petition with 4 million signatures demanding Trump's impeachment and a survey showing 70 percent of Democrats backing at least hearings on the matter could nudge Democrats further into the impeachment camp in the new year.

The publication of the "Fire and Fury" tell-all, meanwhile, has only emboldened Trump's critics, by seeming to raise questions about his stability - which the president openly confronted in a weekend tweet-storm declaring he is a "very stable genius."

Democrats must win 24 House seats and two Senate seats to regain control of Congress in 2018, but have a historically tough time motivating their voters in non-presidential years. (Read more)

- Lord, we bring this plan to You as Nehemiah brought the plans of the enemy to You. We ask that You thwart every plan, idea, and action against our duly elected President.

- "The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsels of the wicked are deceitful." (Proverbs 12:5)

8. FBI chief says report on Las Vegas shooting expected by anniversary - Las Vegas Times

The chief of the FBI's Las Vegas office said he expects the agency to release a report on the Oct. 1 massacre before the tragedy's first anniversary. "Now that's a long time for some people, but speaking for the FBI, that's light speed, all right?" Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse said. Rouse spoke with the Las Vegas Review-Journal during an extensive interview Wednesday at the FBI's Las Vegas office. He said reports from other agencies that responded to the mass shooting are being released at different times. "Ours is focusing a large part on the why, OK? Which is what everybody wants to know," Rouse said.

The question of motive has gone unanswered since the shooting nearly three months ago, which left 58 concertgoers dead and more than 500 injured. Just 10 days after the massacre, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo was largely unpromising about whether a motive would ever be determined. Rouse added that he does not expect the FBI to brief or update the public on the shooting investigation until the anticipated report is released sometime next year. (Read more)

- Lord, this case has seemingly dropped off the map since it happened, fueling thousands of conspiracy theories. We pray for truth to be revealed in this report.

- "I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor." (Psalm 140:12)

9. Severe flu brings medicine shortages, packed ERs and a rising death toll in California - LA Times

So many people have fallen sick with influenza in California that pharmacies have run out of flu medicines, emergency rooms are packed, and the death toll is rising higher than in previous years. Health officials said Friday that 27 people younger than 65 have died of the flu in California since October, compared with three at the same time last year. Nationwide and in California, flu activity spiked sharply in late December and continues to grow.

The emergency room at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica typically treats about 140 patients a day, but at least one day this week had more than 200 patients - mostly because of the flu, said the ER's medical director, Dr. Wally Ghurabi. "The Northridge earthquake was the last time we saw over 200 patients," Ghurabi said. (Read more)

- Lord, we take authority over this flu and bind it up in the Name of Jesus Christ. By the power of His Blood we stand against any further movement of this disease in California or in any other state.

- "And by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5d)

10. Fire breaks out at Trump Tower in New York City, FDNY says - Fox News

Three people -- including one firefighter -- were injured when a fire broke out at Trump Tower in New York City on Monday, officials said.

A small electrical fire started in the cooling tower on the roof of the Fifth Avenue high-rise, which was built by President Trump when he was a businessman, just before 7 a.m., the FDNY said. The flames were put out about an hour later.

More than 126 firefighters responded to the scene. Video footage showed several firefighters on the roof while smoke spewed forth. (Read more)

- Lord, we praise You that this fire was quickly extinguished and all are safe.

- "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield." (Psalm 33:20)

Grim Realities

In America, we are afforded the luxury of debating politics, discussing the latest Hollywood gossip, or worrying about trite things. How many times have you seen commercials on television asking you to donate to help this animal or that? I'm a lover of God's creation, but only in America are we worried about whether a dog has a sweater when the weather turns cold. I don't see many commercials about people in need of food, clothing, clean water, housing, etc. Or how about all those commercials about drugs to cure skin rashes, depression, or incontinence or whatever? Often the side effects are far more dangerous and worse than the problem. We are so fortunate. Let me give you another perspective.

On the first day of the new year, this is the news from our ministry partner in Ghana, William Agbeti: "An elder in a local church in the village of Busuafise, a rural area deep inside the bushes of Ga South, has just died. He was a little over 70. Earlier in the year, we visited with him, prayed over him and supported him with food items and a small cash amount. We were told he was suffering from hernia, but we noticed his hands were shaking all over. It could have been a much more serious medical condition, besides hernia. Touched by his plight, we offered the family some little money to seek proper medical care for him, rather than for them to resort to total reliance on herbal concoctions.

"The family accepted the offer and sent him to a local clinic a couple of times and relaxed after that, when the money run out. His condition grew worse, leading to his untimely death today. We were told tomorrow he would be buried, because the family can't afford to send him to hospital for autopsy and embalming. At the time of writing this piece, his mortal remains are still at his mud house in the village. His death has not been reported and would therefore never be recorded by the authorities in the national deaths register. The actual cause of his death would also never be known. The probabilities are that the Elder may be placed in an improvised casket, hurriedly dug shallow grave, and buried somewhere behind his house on his own compound.

"This Elder's death is quite representative of the circumstances surrounding the lives of many a villager in and around Busuafise. They suffer from numerous medical conditions, involving preventable, curable and manageable ailments, but one after the other they succumb to the cold icy hands of death. Tomorrow, representatives of our MINISTRIES will head to the Elder's funeral. These are the grim realities that many in rural Ghana are faced with."

These are the places where the large churches in Ghana won't go. Too rough, too difficult, too dangerous because of Muslim aggression, too many excuses. But this is where The Daily Jot and William Agbeti's Redeem West Africa Ministries do go. We try. As Christ said in Matthew 25:40, "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." That's how we roll. When we think we have it really bad, there are always those who face grim realities that we cannot imagine.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

O THOU WHO CAMEST FROM ABOVE

"The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out." (Leviticus 6:13)

Lyrics

O Thou who camest from above,
The pure celestial fire to impart,
Kindle a flame of sacred love
Upon the mean altar of my heart.

There let it for Thy glory burn
Unquenched, undimmed, in darkest days,
And trembling to its source return,
In humble prayer and fervent praise.

Jesus, confirm my heart's desire
To work and speak and think for Thee;
Still let me guard the holy fire,
And still stir up Thy gift in me.

Ready for all Thy perfect will,
My acts of faith and love repeat,
Till death Thy endless mercies seal,
And make my sacrifice complete.

A Volcano In Papua New Guinea Has Erupted For The First Time In History

A volcano on a remote island in Papua New Guinea has woken up and erupted for the first time in recorded history. The Kadovar Island eruption kicked off on Friday, January 5, 2018, and has continued to bellow out a 2,133-meters-high (7,000 feet) ash cloud throughout the weekend, Reuters reports.

There are now mounting fears that the eruption could be explosive, potentially triggering landslides around the island and tsunamis on its neighboring islands. Fortunately, almost 600 residents of the small island were successfully evacuated and there were no reported injuries or deaths, according to the US-based non-profit organization Samaritan Aviation.
We do not have any details yet as to where all of the families have gone and hope to have further information in the near future," the group said on its Facebook page.
"Ash is being emitted and is being blown to the west-northwest and extends for tens of kilometers," said the Rabaul Volcanological Observatory, according to local news outlet Loop PNG. "Reports dated 6th January state that 50-60 percent of the island is covered in volcanic products. During the 6th, emissions darkened in color and became more voluminous."
